The food has a heavy focus on local ingredients, with flavors that are incredibly tight and well-balanced. The steak frites are so tender I'm pretty sure they were cut with a polite suggestion rather than a knife. The scallops are meaty and perfectly cooked. And of course the burger is absolutely mouthwatering and make it the tempting default option during each visit. The appetizers are all fantastic, Kat and the Korean cauliflower takes the cake! For desert, their house cheesecake is phenomenal, and their in house amber ale is full and flavourful. The restaurant is within a walk of the Tim Hortons Stadium and many folks were walking past in team colours. There were also patrons leaving to attend the game as we were arriving. The menu has a good selection for a variety of tastes. We were promptly seated and waited for the host of our party. The wait staff were at the ready upon our settling in. The house was not overly busy and we had up to three wait staff working with us, although one was primary with the others assisting to keep all the tables satisfied. Some of our party had appetizers which they thoroughly enjoyed. Between the four of us we had two of the day's special and two from the menu for entrees. While we were waiting we had a lovely selection of breads some of which had a duck confit on them making a nice crispy change from French stick which was included. The butter was nicely served in a perfectly softened state. All the entrees had a great presentation and we all enjoyed the meal. A couple of us continued to a dessert. These were truly enjoyed by those of us that ordered the dessert. Great flavour and presentation were appreciated. The washrooms on the same level as the restaurant. Some seating is raised above making for a semi-private space. The sole issue is the step up to the door will be difficult for some mobility issue patrons. The restaurant is not setup for a wheelchair access. We were fortunate to get a parking space right at the door. The area has paid street parking at meters or using an app. Around the corner may provide no fee parking if available.

I observed a manager apologize to some people at a nearby table for the slow service, but we never received a similar (or any) apology. Our toddler is ordinarily very well behaved in public, but he sat in his high-chair for so long that he started to wail. Regarding the food, when it actually arrived, the portions were really small for the prices they are charging. I could have probably cooked something that tasted better at home, and I'm definitely no chef. Overall the place feels very grungy. This was our first time here and we decided that we're not going to be coming back.

However, we were really upset about the hidden fees that were not explicitly told to us (18% gratuity on top of tax and a $25 fee per missing person). We would have rather underestimated our reservation than pay more - we sat at benches so we would have just squeezed in further. We were told about the gratuity but not that it was on the total after taxes. I can understand charging for no shows but we were a very large party that was only short 3 people, and again there was a lack of transparency when booking. So now I've paid $75 extra and a gratuity for guests who weren't present...??! I think in the age of people not attending parties when they are sick, there should be some leeway. We also were told we were expected to pay for one meal for every guest, even though there were 4 children 4 and under. This was most certainly not communicated to us as we were not even asked when booking how many adults there would be. We wouldn't come here again as a large group as we felt they were not very transparent and not very family friendly. It was a very upsetting end to an otherwise lovely time.
