American dude writing a review!…read more I stopped in pretty late night soon after checking into a hotel nearby. Thank goodness for free Wi-Fi because that's how I found out about this pub with live music. Had I stopped to have a conversation with locals or gas station attendants for local hotspots, I may have been sent other places that may not have been as nice. I don't get the low star rating which is somewhere around a two star presently. I mean, I do and I don't. For one thing, it's got a setup like an English pub mainly because of it's naming which is after the famous writer Charles Dicken's. But one wouldn't guess that by any of their decor within a sole visit, this is a clarification I came across when scoping their website much later after my first visit. The pub has some history dating back to the mid 1800's. Their website gives tribute and recollection to those that lived within these walls and called it home. The draw for the pub is nightly live music provided by bands which change up night to night. While they maintain a decent website, it doesn't seem to contain the most up to date information. So, if you'd like to see a band lineup, it's best to call in or visit the pub. Most Americans traveling further than closer to the border would be unaware to the fact that in Canada they consider nineteen years of age an adult with the ability to consume alcohol. For this reason solely explains why in much of Canada you can expect to see far more women than in some bars in the States. Back home in Chicago, I'm all too used to the term "chorizo parties" which has become a label for bars and clubs which are inundated with higher male to female ratios. Any who. Another note to my American peoples; booze is pricey everywhere in Canada and in some cases the charges are double what we pay back in the States. Service, offering and some very minute difference in cost is what differs from one bar or club to the other. I ordered a shot of Jamo (That's Jameson's whiskey) which cost about seven and half Ca dollars. I paid about the same for a Coors light. The bartender which waited on us, could have been nicer. Despite our good tipping, I'm not sure if she smiled once. Perhaps tourists get a cold shoulder? I don't know. The door guys seemed nicer. Among looks from the locals, it seemed kind of cold in there. Except for sharing the routine head nods of acknowledgement from other male patrons in the bar. The bar has a nice setup if in fact the website is correct and the accents of the bar have been the same in place since the time of it's creation. It's held up well. I can't remember the name of the band that played last Friday but I thought they did a good job. They sang popular rock hits from the 1990's to stuff which is current. After a couple of beers and shots in the belly, we headed down the street for more touristy exploration. If I were in the area again, I would probably stop by again to hear the music happening. The place is soundproofed pretty well, because one would have to be within a short relative space to hear the music playing live within.

Our server was very pleasant, but unfortunately, the overall experience wasn't enough to make me want to give Pepperwoods a second chance. I wouldn't recommend it. Lots of other good food spots in DT Burlington that I would highly recommend.

"Excuse me I said ", the one gentleman stepped aside saying sorry, no worries I replied to him. Apparently when I opened the door to enter my backpack brushed the other gentleman in the chest. Didn't actually realize until I was through the entrance, looked back as he was clearly overreacting to the incidental contact upon myself entering. I entered the restaurant, dropped my knapsack and went back to apologize to the gentleman. Words were specifically, " sorry my backpack bumped you went i entered, i think you kind of overreacted. " The other gentleman who actually moved when i excused myself passing them, got all indignant, belligerent, and agitated followed me into the restaurant looking for a confrontation. I actually unaware of this as it was unfolding was caughg off guard as my friends intervened what was going to be a physical altercation. It was actually, said gentleman was physical with my friend who was having my back, continued to be aggressivd. Taunted me, still being aggressive...upon which time the bar staff asked 'ME' to leave... are you kidding me i said, I'm not the person loitering on the front step, blocking patron and then getting aggressive abd starting an altercation. Not at all pleased with how the staff dealt with this. Total bs. I've been attending the Poacher establishment for close to 40 years. They just lost a huge amount of respect in my eyes. I will be sharing this incident with many friends and potential customers. Discouraging supporting this establishment. Not happy one little bit.

Mixed Green Salad (small $7.95, large $13.95). 2. Fish & Chips (1 pc $18.95, 2 pc $26.95). 3. Baked Pistachio Salmon ($26.95). 4. Bread Pudding and Ice Cream ($9.99). My mother and son didn't have the strength to cut through it. The Baked Pistachio Salmon had a pistachio crusted salmon, roasted sweet potatoes, warm spinach, seasonal vegetables, and drizzled maple butter. The glaze had a strange taste. I found out that they put Dijon mustard on the fish to hold the pistachios in place. I usually don't like Dijon mustard it it wasn't overly strong. The mustard should be listed in their menu I think. On the positive side, the salmon was plump, fresh, flakey, and tasty. It appears that this restaurant serves good seafood. I will have to come back to try other items. The Bread Pudding and Ice Cream was smooth and delicious. It is a custard with raisins and rum butter sauce, with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. The custard was smooth. I hardly tasted the rum which is good because I don't like alcohol. The whipped cream was fresh and light. There are 4 parking spots nearby on Elizabeth St that are free for 20 mins until 18:00. I happened to arrive at 17:59 and was able to park for free for our entire dinner! There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. What can I say! We keep coming back for the great food, AMAZING drinks and unbelievable staff. Carl could be the best manager of any restaurant in Burlington. Jody is a rock star... if you ever want to watch someone make 10 drinks at a time, that are all complicated and different he does it with such finesse. The menu looks extensive and they also offer murder mysteries and entertainment so we will have to check it out again.

He had his usual, the Chimichurri steak sandwich, and I got a fish and chips, which i had never tried before. His steak was great and cooked really well. I've had the steak sandwich before as well and it was super well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Do keep in mind they only serve it with one slice of bread, though you can add an additional slice to make it a real sandwich. My fish and chips were good as well. The fish was thickly battered and was a little on the oily side but it wasn't bad. It went great with the truffle fries I ordered. The slaw was purple cabbage, which I think I prefer to the green cabbage kind. The restaurant was kind enough to give us a free cheesecake on the side with a cool flame sparkler for me and my boyfriend's anniversary. It was quite good and we thought is was quite generous of the restaurant. Overall, Taps is a great all rounder place to get food with your family or friends. They serve great pizzas here as well and I haven't had a dish I was disappointed with yet. It is on the pricier side, but if you have the ability to splurge, this is a great place to do so.

And of course the burger is absolutely mouthwatering and make it the tempting default option during each visit. The appetizers are all fantastic, Kat and the Korean cauliflower takes the cake! For desert, their house cheesecake is phenomenal, and their in house amber ale is full and flavourful. Our server was on the ball; the water was never empty, and the check ins were always at the right time. Verdict: 10/10. If you want western food with a fun twist and high quality ingredients, this is one spot you must check out!
