Tried this location out since it's new my new apartment and I didn't find much reason for it to become my new regular spot. The coffee I ordered was decent but didn't hit the notes I expected based on it being a specialty drink. The croissant my daughter ordered was really good and flaky however. The interior seating looked nice and comfortable as well. Staff was friendly and helpful but being that it specializes in coffee I can't go above 3 stars. I share the same sentiment as a previous poster. Upon walking in, the re were two young ladies just sitting down and they were the only two in a sea of bored zombies filling the seats with laptop headtops. I made my way across the joint and no one ever acknowledged my existence. I looked around a little bit and waited a minute too long for someone behind the counter to come take my order. The two people behind the counter looked absolutely unhappy with their lives. No smile and not a word to anyone! I turned around and went out the door to the next coffee shop up the hwy. Waze lead me to Summer Moon. A completely different experience!! I was treated right away my a very happy young lady. She offered me options and asked exactly how I wanted my latte. My drink was made right in front of me faster than I had a chance to look around and shop. All this AFTER the person behind me being greeted by name!! I cannot say that the service came with a smile. There was no smile, as I nervously browsed the menu in search of something to order. I chose a vanilla latte. They called my name, again, no smiles, but I happily took my drink. It was a drinkable temperature, but it was not deliciously tasty! It was sub-par, similar to church coffee with a vanilla coffee mate creamer added. All-in-all, this place is ok, it hits the mark for caffeine needs. Here's what I thought: -Helpful and friendly staff -helped me decide on what taco to get from their chilaquil options -liked the potato egg and cheese but slightly dry for my tastes, would've liked more cheese (but that's not up to merit!) -got an oat milk iced matcha latte Good, not sweet unless you add some kind of sweetener, I didn't. Usually I finish coffee fast but i had this one for almost two hours before throwing it out. Good experience overrall! Taste 1/5 The iced chai latte had no chai flavor. Instead, there was a large amount of cinnamon sprinkled on top which didn't taste good either. Wow. What a disappointing experience. Saturday afternoon about 3p, my girlfriend and I walked in, needing a boost. Place was not very crowded at all - maybe a handful of people actually sitting at tables throughout the store, and there was only 1-2 people in front of us in line. We ordered - nothing complicated. Two lattes of different flavors. We paid - and stood aside. We waited....and waited....and waited. We watched the only barista work - painstakingly make ONE DRINK AT A TIME. There was absolutely no "leaded gasoline" in her "gas tank". We watched as she used the same "shot glass" and other apparatus for each drink - of course, washing it each time between drinks. But my point is this: she seemed incapable of doing more than one thing at a time. This experience tied my worst experience at any coffee shop for the length of time it took us to get our drinks. We easily waited 20 mins. Also, they seem to determine the heat of the drinks by feel, which led mine to lack the heat I prefer. Another thing which bothered me. They have laminated "cards" on all tables - which ask patrons to turn the card over when they are finished dining so they can clean that table.... I know they are trying to have customers "help" by turning over the cards, but how many people DON'T? Come on! People in this country are selfish, self-centered, and lazy - they won't be turning over anything as they leave. I left concerned about the cleanliness of the store... During a global pandemic, I truly hope this place is cleaning tables whether those cards are flipped or not....EEEEWWWW. read more

This might be my favorite Local Coffee location! I stopped by this Local Coffee for the first time yesterday and I am so glad I did. It was a little past 2PM and I was in much need of caffeine, specially because I was about to host 2 events and I knew I had to be sharp for that. Anyhow, I got there and when the girl at the counter asked what I needed, I just said "caffeine", she smiled and suggested the cold brew (high in caffeine) with a hint of vanilla and cream to get me through my day. This is my go-to place to get coffee, regardless if it is a cold brew, espresso, or a specialty drink. The drinks always taste amazing and the quality is consistent. The baristas are professional and very nice to talk to, they will also help you if you have any questions on really anything. The coffee beans they sell are also amazing. The best thing is that a majority of the bags have been roasted only a few days from when you buy a bag. read more

I'm bummed because I used to adore Merit! It changed ownership which might have something to do with the issues I've had here recently. The baristas are super great at the register but as soon as you pay, you're not a priority anymore. I waited like 7 min for an iced latte this week when there weren't any other drinks on bar...the baristas were just chatting, which is fine- being a barista is so fun! But an iced latte should come out in about a minute when there isn't a line. I also came here once with a friend who ordered an iced chai. We were chatting for half an hour and realized she never got her drink. We let them know and they made the drink but didn't offer a refund or a pastry or anything and didn't even bring it out to our table. I've just always found that aggressively great customer service absolutely transforms people's experience and really isn't that difficult. I will say- the hippie bar is so so good! I'll still go to merit just for a hippie bar! And there's not many other options in leon springs for a cute meetup / homework spot, so merit still has the monopoly on that for now. Local Coffee... For better or for worse, most Americans have come to know coffee through the ubiquitous coffee franchise know as Starbucks. Most of us don't care when the barista at a "real" coffee house rolls their eyes and explains the difference between real and fake lattes, machiattos, etc. So just shut up and ask if we'd like the traditional version of the "Starbucks" version, rather than just making us the traditional version and making us feel stupid for asking "What's this?". Just be pleasant and accept our ignorance. That being said, you'll find a very limited menu at Local Coffee. What they do serve is typically very good from fresh coffee to traditional coffee concoctions. Teas, likewise, are quite limited with just black, green, and an herbal tea (pineapple mint, on this day). They also offer a sparling tea (unsweetened) which was well carbonated. Bare in mind that everything is premium priced. The pastry display was well stocked with a variety of sweet and savory items. The shop sells some items such as roasted coffee, some "real" yogurt, and some bottled drinks, as well as some branded merchandise. Additionally, free WiFi is available and of sufficient speed to keep most people happy. The store was clean, as were the bathrooms. Parking here can be limited during peak hours but the HEB parking lot is quite near. They also have bike parking and outdoor seating. read more

Tried the Chai Latte and Butternut Squash Muffin. The chai was good I was expecting a little more spice but that's just my preference. I usually drink loose leaf chai so it packs a punch. However the Muffin was so delish, I practically inhaled it! The Muffin itself was super moist and reminded me of a pumpkin bread spice flavor and the topping was a crunchy crushed pecan which had a salty and sweet flavor. It was so yummy! We also grabbed Bakery Lorraine macaroons while in. The chocolate and peppermint. Very yummy! Also the small chai, only comes in one size was almost $4! However, we will return for the bakery items which were delicious and reasonably priced for the quality and size.
