It's usually very crowded. If you go upstairs, it's more calmer and there are large tables to sit at and eat with additional dining options. It might be a bit pricier here because it's an attraction. Very cool place! We arrived in Florence around 8:30PM, and thankfully, this place was located near our lodgings and opened late. The first floor is essentially a farmer's market during the day time hours while the upstairs area is a food court featuring every Italian cuisine (with some mix of Asian and American) imaginable. I love that the chefs' names are prominently featured at each food stall. Each member of our group decided to get something different. I opted for the black truffle carbonara from Savini Tartufi by Luciano Savini and my boyfriend opted for the lampredotto al sugo (cow tripe's sandwich with tomato sauce) from Il Lampredotto by the Bambi Family. Lots of communal tables and a great place to try a variety of food and socialize with others. They also have a wine bar and cocktails bar if you're just looking to grab a drink. Loved the lively ambiance going on here, and definitely a must stop if you're in the area. You'd be hard pressed not to find what you're looking for here. read more

We loved Mercato Centrale so much, we came twice during our visit to Florence. It's a nice collection of different food to try with bar in the middle. It was kind of crowded and you have to be very alert to find a table. We tried the burger (wouldn't recommend), the Chinese dumplings, seafood and of course drinks. I tried the Negroni Sbagliato for the first time here. Once you are at a table, you can also order drinks from one of the servers walking around and they will bring your drink to the table. The menu is on the QR code. Some places on the internet describe cool things to see downstairs and additional seating upstairs. Got into Florence today and went here directly for lunch. Loved that family members can go to different places! It is incredibly loud, hot, and busy inside. They will come up to your table and ask what drinks you would like to order. My family had some great food (vegan mystery dish, panino, barbecued chicken) but my partner's and mine was a total let down. We were so hot we wanted something cold, so we went to the sushi place. We selected the chicken teriyaki roll and the mango roll, which we were told was tempura shrimp. Never in a million years did I expect the shrimp to be raw. The mango itself was good, but not the shrimp, and the seaweed was incredibly chewy. Same with the teriyaki chicken, incredibly chewy. That one felt very overcooked, and neither was very flavorful. I had low expectations since I am in Italy, but it still was a disappointment. I would definitely return to the market, but do not get the sushi. read more

What a great place to try new foods! It's like a huge food hall with lots of vendor offerings. We started with the Arancini cart because we were told that it was a must. My favorite was the spinach followed by the prosciutto. The pizza was amazing except for the sardines. I am not a fan but we didn't realize it came with it. Glass of wine only $4.50. There's so much here. There's a pasta stand, charcuterie stand, sandwiches, bbq, Asian....all kinds of stands plus great bar and desserts. It's an iconic, busy market with many food options. Husband was craving pizza, so we didn't try the other restaurants. Unfortunately, the pizza was lousy, and tasted awful. If you want to fall in love, feel loved, and be surrounded by love, this is the place... This is essentially the central market. It's beyond amazing, and I wish that we had some thing like that here in the states. The main floor features, numerous restaurants, a location for cooking classes, and several bars and a couple of dessert spots. Seating is family style, and don't be surprised if you make friends with the people sitting at the table with you. We ended up coming here several times, because it was a nice place to be able to get out of the heat, sit down, and enjoy relaxing, with some reasonably priced food. There is table service offered, but it's not for the restaurants. The service is predominantly for beverages and adult libations. You will find American burgers, Chinese, food, fish and chips, fresh seafood, Mexican food... the list is endless! Everything looks and smells amazing. We tried a couple of the different locations, and, as I said, we were not disappointed. As a sidenote, hamburgers were invented in Rome! The lower level is only open from early in the morning until about 1 PM or so in the afternoon. It truly is a shopping experience. If I lived in the area, this is where I would shop for fresh meat, fish, vegetables, and fruit, And some of the most delicious meats that would make a charcuterie board scream with pleasure! There are a few places to dine downstairs, and their hours are limited like the rest of the shops. This is such an amazing experience that I highly recommend it. We stopped at the biscotti booth, and 410 American dollars, win the purchasing a huge bag filled with a variety of different flavored biscotti. They seriously put to shame anything that I have found here in the states. Yes, I said it, and it's so true! There are also numerous wine, shops, and some biscotti in a bottle of wine, and it's a perfect way to end your evening. It definitely screams to the tourists, but if you're in Florence, you absolutely can't miss out on this! There's only one restroom, and like most of the restrooms, it's not a whole lot to write home about, but it's cleaner than most, and they don't charge for using the restroom. If you're in the mood for shopping, some of the shops downstairs, will happily ship or provide you with their web address, so that you can order online. Many offer, tastings and samples and make the experience top-notch. This is a must stop place to your Italian adventures in Florence! read more

What a scene! Review is for the 2nd floor as I went on Sunday and the first floor market was closed. VERY Crowded for lunch but it's a scene. Every food imaginable in many small restaurants or stands. And a couple of bars too if you can snag a seat. I chose Joe Bastianich's BBQ place which was probably the busiest. Sat at the counter and enjoyed the chicken wings and burnt ends brisket. Prices were a bit higher than other restaurants but you pay for the entertainment called people watching. Mercato Centrale is a renovated space with a 2 floor combination of fresh market and kiosk restaurants. It is a sight to behold. My wife and I came here twice and it can offer either a relaxed environment during the week and off hours or show the full force of local and tourist crowds on a weekend. i can say we definitely preferred the relaxed experience. If you are the same, try to visit not on Saturday at lunch : ) There are dozens of food shops on the second floor, with all the food made in house. You can find meat/steak, vegetarian, pizza, and just about any other food taste. They also have a bar if you would like wine or other drinks. In generally there are many many places to find a place to sit and eat, that just get's overwhelmed at peak times. On the first floor is a series of shops selling fresh vegetables and meats and breads that locals will visit daily. It is located adjacent to one of the largest outdoor leather markets in Florence. So if you are out haggling for leather and need a break, this is a nice place to recharge. MUST TRY Pescheria Sugarello for the fresh fried/grilled seafood-BOMB frittatura misto! After wandering around a whole day in Florence, the next day, we started a little bit later and wanted to find a place to eat to start the day. I saw this food core on the map and definitely wanted to check it out. We got there around 11:30 and there was not that many people on a Sunday, but as soon as 12 o'clock hit it with swarm with people, so get there a little bit early to be avoid the crowds. We had so many different options to choose from so we ended up all getting different foods. We had everything from a fried rice bowl to gnocchi to charcuterie type platter with some bread everything was delicious. Also, as you're walking around, you'll see the vendors sampling Florentine steak. This steak just the samples were delicious even after going to different restaurants and trying their Florentine steak. We would say that the food court steak was one of the best that we had. One of the really nice things about this market is you can just grab a table anywhere, scan the QR code and order food from any of the stalls and it will be brought to your table, which is super convenient, especially when seating can be hard to come by. While everything we had was tasty, I couldn't give it 5 stars due to how they handle food allergies. Took a walk to the Mercato. Not far from where we were staying near the Duomo. The outside of the market is lined with street vendors. There are lots of different food vendors with fish, meats, cheeses, etc. Some are very good, some not so good. Second level has the equivalent of a food court. Mostly Italian food, some Asian and American food was there as well. There's also what appeared to be a culinary class going on in the back corner. It's good to meet here with a large group and each person can find something he or she likes. The food court has a variety of eats, from simple eats like burgers to stuffy eats like truffles. I find the variety to be more satisfying than the quality though. At the truffle shop, for example, the truffle pasta and risotto would either be undercooked or overcooked, either under-seasoned or over-salted (1 star off). None of the other shops seem to have anything unique, so I didn't try anything else. One of the bigger food markets/halls that I've experienced. They were semi busy on a Thursday a little after 1:00. A few restaurants from pasta to seafood, Charcuterie, bakery & Lampredotto. Fresh fruit, vegetables, Butchers and Fish Mongers also. We got a tip from a tour guide to get pizza right outside and not inside. Seeing the lines at Da Nerbone got us to try their Lampredotto with a Greek Salad and it didn't disappoint. We got some Lasagna from a spot close to Da Nerbone. (Can't remember the name) and it was excellent. We tried to order a Mixed Seafood cone from Sugarello but the wait was too long. There was more seating and restaurants on the second level although we didn't make it up there. Restrooms are available for 1 Euro. Great way to sample all of the local favorites under one roof. This is a fun and very lively, large market! We really enjoyed ourselves here. We didn't eat in the restaurants. I sampled the various balsamic vinegars, and learned a lot about the aging process and the relative tastes. If I recall correctly, the older the vinegar is, the sweeter it gets. The vendor had all ranges of ages of balsamic, and was very generous to allow me to sample them for free!! I opted not to buy any; however, we did buy some limoncello (in my opinion, it's really an acquired taste), and a huge block of fresh parmesan Rigano cheese.
