Mercante is a new Italian restaurant as part of the Park Lane Hotel restaurant in Green Park. It's concept is bringing in the traditional Italian affair in the form of small plates, made for sharing. Decor is elegant and sophisticated with some classical escapism with its early 20th century decor. Tables and seats were in the yellow theme and gave the restaurant a nice bright atmosphere. Doesn't feel like the usual hotel restaurant but definitely one it's own unique character to it. Service is the only thing that upset our experience. For just three people we wanted to order smaller dishes to share among all of us but felt quite pushed into ordering medium sizes. We found it hard to say no seeing how friendly and assertive they were but it did meant a lot of food was leftover and wasted. Other than that staff were very knowledgeable and efficient. Prosciutto crudo, wild boar with Asiago and pecorino sardo cheese (all medium sized) An excellent quality of cured meats and cheeses. The prosciutto was sliced incredibly thin and moist. It was so tender with rich umami flavours and cured perfectly so it wasn't salty at all. Wild boar was slightly thicker with more of a gamey richer taste and just as high quality. The cheeses could have been presented better but were nice and fresh, very flavoursome and creamy Potato croquettes These were delicious and had a surprising filling of melted mozzarella which gave it that lovely stretchy bouncy texture against the golden crisp breadcrumb batter and fluffy mash potato. The size of each one was very generous and even though they were deep fried they felt very light and greaseless showing skillful cooking Arancini Excellent contrast in texture between the crispy crust and the lovely al dente rice. The pulled pork inside was very succulent and sweet and with help from the melted cheese inside it remained moist and help boost its umami flavours. Even though there was no sauces inside quality ingredients provided sufficient flavour Pizzetta del giorno Something so simple as cheese and tomato pizza was incredibly satisfying. They got the ratio perfect with the thin base that had a nice chew to it and a light and fresh zesty tomato sauce accompanied by a generous topping of a high quality melted mozzarella, sweet and mild in flavour Polpettine in tomato These were nice but had the potential to be better. They were slightly over cooked so it was quite dense and lacked bounce. It could have also done with some greens to boost its flavour and texture. However the beef was very flavoursome, rich and carried enough flavour to make the dish yummy. The zesty tomato sauce also added moisture and gave it a nice refreshing touch Linguine, clams and bottarga A wonderfully composed pasta dish. The linguine was perfectly al dente with a light coating of cream, just enough to keep the dish moist without making it too heavy. Cleverly using bottarga to boost its seafood flavours, as well as making its savoury flavours more interesting against the juicy clams. Very moreish Asparagus & Parmesan custard bruschetta The Parmesan was a fine creation and I very much so enjoyed the milky smooth consistency of it but the dish itself wasn't very well designed. The bread wasn't the fluffiness of kind and so wasn't great at soaking up the cheese. The shaved asparagus seems a bit out of place and didn't add much to the dish being simply blanched Rabbit alla cacciatore One of the best rabbit dishes I've had. Being slow cooked and its meat wrapped in its own skin, the result was phenomenal. It was like a crossover between duck and pork with its sweet fatty poultry flavours from the skin and tenderness of pork belly. The meat was so soft it was effortlessly to bite into. The braising sauce was fantastic, savoury and full of depth and complexity from the juices leaked into it from the rabbit Parmigiana I thought I tried enough parmigiana in my lifetime to be surprised and blown away. These were probably one of the best versions I've had. Comprised of several layers of baked aubergine it gave it somewhat a meaty texture. It was perfectly soften and silky with a very well made tomato sauce that was rich in umami which had its flavours accentuated by the high quality of melted cheese on top Roast potatoes rosemary Sadly these were undercooked making the texture still quite hard inside rather than fluffy. It's a shame as we saw the potential flavours that could have make this dish quite nice to have as a side. Overall we did have quite a memorable experience at Mercante and most of the dishes were fantastic, all made with the highest quality of ingredients. It is an excellent idea to introduce a menu where you can choose your serving size so you can either have it as a starter or a main. Definitely better for sharing. However little work can be done on the presentation and staff definitely needs further training on recommended dishes and the appropriate amount and sizes.

My husband and I stumbled (quite literally) into Bocconcino after hitting a wall of jet lag and…read morehunger. The hostess took pity on us and allowed us spots at the bar without reservations. The bartender was absolutely charming and amazing, and he made a truly outstanding Ramos Gin Fizz (a cocktail from New Orleans that few people know how to make, and even fewer want to make). Not sure how that cocktail came up, but he seriously deserves a round of applause for making not one, but two. He truly revived my soul! I split the gazpacho and short rib pasta with my husband. The short rib pasta was magically both light and hearty; it was exactly what we needed after 18 hours of travel. We frequently travel, and I am highly skeptical of Italian food when outside of Italy. Bocconcino was an authentic experience that rivals many of our meals in Rome. Maybe it was jet lag, but I did almost lock myself into the water closet and luckily after a few minutes manage to unlock the stall door without calling for assurance. I suggest visiting with a friend for gossip and security! As far as ambiance, there was great people watching with the Saturday evening patrons; it was an experience in learning about London 'going out' fashion, and watching the very attractive staff interact with customers was a prime education in upper class customer service/flirting. My parting comment is that the bartender stole my heart and I hope to have another of his delicious beverages on a future trip!
