Food, wine, service amazing across the board. Reservations recommended; we secured with a credit card and did not regret the decision. Upstairs is light and more modern. Downstairs (where we were) was cozy with incredibly comfortable seating and looked a bit like a luxury plane interior might. I liked both, but for a long cozy meal like our party of 5 family/close friends, I would go downstairs. For a date I barely knew, I'd choose upstairs, yet for one I already liked, I'd go downstairs and never want to leave. Well, not unless there was somewhere else to go!l Some of us ordered prix fixe, some from the menu. All was astoundingly good. DON'T pass on the breadsticks or the freshly made focaccia. Margot is an unassuming-from-the-outside but posh-on-the-inside Italian restaurant near Covent Garden. The dining experience is elegant and high class. Service was professional, and many of the staff spoke Italian, lending credibility to the restaurant's authenticity. Unfortunately, the food itself was just meh. The scallops as a starter were succulent and the highlight of the meal. The ossobuco as a main had a wonderfully tender texture but a bland flavor--it needed much more salt and seasoning. The semifreddo for dessert was enjoyable but nothing to write home about. Overall for such a high-end restaurant, I would've expected more remarkable cuisine. Oh honey nooooo. Very disappointed with this dining experience. Such a waste of money and the quality of food was so average. This is just another tourist death trap in the middle of Leicester Square/Covent Garden. I came here with one of my girlfriends for what was supposed to be a nice wine and dine experience. I've been to some of the best, most authentic Italian restaurants in the world, and not even at those locations were portions this small and prices this high. The portion sizes were almost laughable. £21 for 5 cold ravioli with no flavour and processed sauce? Followed by what, another meek portion of £25 octopus? Quality of the food was just... bad. I really hate being harsh in reviews but this place was almost offensive. I will say the service was okay, and the wait staff tried to be attentive. But other than that, the only thing I'd recommend this place for is after-work cheese & wine before going to an actually decent restaurant. read more

I have no words for this restaurant. Found it by accident and fell in love. The food was perfection. The service impeccable. The ambiance, elegant and relaxing. Every vegetable taste like it was freshly picked from the garden. We picked the perfect wine. The lamb was perfectly seasoned. Polite, refined and proud, Margot has all the air of a promising fine-dining establishment. With the exception of being able to hear the head chef yell at his subordinates in the open kitchen (probably only a feature during the soft launch), the service overall was attentive and cheerful. Ask one of the staff and you could learn about the delightful tale to the origins of the restaurant, its name and its logo.  The food itself wasn't quite up to the standard it had set for itself. First off the breadsticks were somewhat soft from having been left to oxidate in the air for a bit too long and were a little too salty whilst not being accompanied with any dip. The foccacia bread that is offered at the beginning of the meal was also too salty, yet the alternative of wholemeal bread tasted bland. Meanwhile the olive oil dip to accompany the bread was better than the breads themselves.  There is no doubt that the starters and mains were very well presented with symmetry, colour and creativity. The crab salad I had was sumptuous in crab flavour and well paired with the salad dressing. The cod fish was okay but only really memorable because it was on a bed of squid ink covered barley (which was not well received in any case). I was pleasantly surprised by the sirloin steak which was evenly cooked, a decent size and juicy as well as nicely fragrant alongside a wild mushroom sauce. The sides were nothing exceptional but also nothing untoward. So all in all, Margot seems to be able to offer a decent dining experience but perhaps needs to tweak its menu and final product somewhat to match its full culinary potential. read more

Great experience. I went here with my girlfriend and her two friends and it was a very nice fine dining experience. We got the salami board and cheese board and they were beautifully presented. Then my main course was Chicken Terrine with Mashed and Gravy which was very flavorful and delicious. I wanted to get a pasta dish or appetizer but the place is a little out of my price range. I ended up getting desert and my girlfriend got the Tiramisu and she loved it. I got Rhubarb Panna Cotta and I loved it. It made me feel like I was lactose intolerant but I think that's my own fault for compulsively drinking London tap water after flying over from the US. Beautiful restaurant and they even took me in to the pass to show me the kitchen. It was a very small kitchen so I was immediately impressed by the size of the menu and the quality of the dishes. The chefs here are definitely professionals and if I had more money I would love to go back but this was probably a one off. But I was very happy with my experience. It's family owned and it's always nice to dine in a place where you know the experience is unique. read more

When in London, this is a must! My husband and I had dinner here and the food, drinks, service and environment were all perfection. The restaurant has a bit of a French fine dining decor with beautiful black/white Photograhy displays. All the tables were full and I'm glad I made reservations a month in advance. From the moment we arrived, the receptionist greeted us with kindness and assured us as soon as our table was ready she would alert us. We sat at the bar for cocktails and wine. Our server, Arthur, was extremely professional and helpful. He gave us good guidance regarding which dishes were best to select. We ate the following salad and main dishes that were beyond perfection: Beetroot Salad, Tagliolini Lobster, Cacio & Pepe pasta; desserts - (the only thing not that great was the panna cotta) and lemon tart. For drinks the (perfection) Giardino Di Kyoto and Clavis Orea wine. At the end of the evening we needed a taxicab and Arthur went outisde to flag one down for us. read more

For the final night of our holiday, we wanted something special. Margot did not disappoint! The atmosphere was bustling but not overwhelming, and the restaurant is beautiful without being pretentious. All of the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, and watching them work together so in-sync was like watching a ballet or handsome men in suits and aprons. The food was delicious, and nothing felt rushed. They allowed us to enjoy our time - it felt like being at a meal in Italy where the table is yours for the night with no pressure. The beef carpaccio was melt-in-your mouth delicious and the Balanzone was so good, I'll be dreaming about having it again. High marks for the desserts as well, they were wonderful all around, with special credit to the tiramisu's presentation. I'm struggling between a 3.5 or 4. The food is really tasty. I loved my linguini pasta with pesto. The flavors were perfect and the pesto was just beautiful. It was paired with some lame beans potatoes, almost would have been better with just pesto. The focaccia bread was also super pillowy, so soft and yummy. Also crushed my dessert which was the petite gateau. The reason I struggle is because the service is quite pretentious. If you don't look like you're going to drop £200 per person, no smiles for you. I'm torn - service here was great, and my family's food was all pretty good - but both my salad and main course were so salty that I couldn't finish them. Perhaps I was just unlucky, but this isn't a place I'll recommend, except maybe for dessert. For wine, we were given great recommendations - we had a bottle of red and bottle of white and both were very good. I started with the arugula salad which was well-dressed but far too salty. Then I had the bolognese. Again, so salty as to be unpalatable. I'm a frequent reviewer and this is the first time I've ever had this reaction, so it's not like I have a particularly low tolerance for salt in my food. I tried bites of other people's food at my table and all was good - parmesan risotto, lamb, etc. - but I left unsatisfied. High point though, the tiramisu was great. I'd come back for wine and dessert, but that's about it. read more

Very nice trendy up-scale Italian restaurant in London. Ordered a fish entree (Hake) and my husband ordered the Poppardelle pasta with wild boar Ragu. We had a Burrata Pugliese appetizer as well, which is a Caprese type appetizer with Burrata cheese. Food was very good as well as the service. My only complaint was that they delivered the wrong fish dish to me (monkfish), and I did not know this until they told me, apologizing as I was not familiar with either fish. I had already eaten a portion of it and it was good so I said I would just keep it. When the bill came they had charged me for the more expensive fish (that I did not order). I thought that was cheesy. The difference was minimal so we paid it without complaint but it was an error on their part and I believe they should have at the very least only charged me for what was ordered. We did have a very nice meal and actually spent a bit of time speaking with the owner who was very nice. I would certainly recommend this restaurant and would return myself, but would definitely complain is something like that happened again- read more

I have rarely enjoyed a fine dining experience so much. We got there right at opening (17H30) to make a 19H30 curtain and had the staff's undivided attention for a little while, which was nothing short of magic. Even when it got quite a bit busier, the service was fantastic. It's a beautifully and meticulously designed restaurant, from the bathroom to the placemats. Somehow the decently large space never got loud! And, of course, the food was impeccable. Some of the best Italian I've enjoyed outside of Italy. A real standout was their fantastic bartender, who has crafted an amazing cocktail menu - but encouraged me to ignore it and instead tell him what I like so he could make something customized to me. The Dachshund logo caught my eye. We have TWO, therefore the curiosity won and we had to step inside. Once Inside, we were warmly greeted and had our coats hung up. Everything was excellent from the moment we sat down at the table to the moment we finished our meals. Good food paired with good service. Great meal and service. Started with the cheese and salami plate - good selection and great tasting. Had the wild boar pasta and lobster pasta dishes for the mains - both were great. Look no further for splendid Italian, quality and service that you would expect from the top restaurants in the world, yet with a fairly priced menu. Wow. we had been eating in Mayfair and a Michelin star restaurant near Knightsbridge...and found Margot to be one of our favorites of the trip. This is a new restaurant by the fabulous Paolo De Tarso and team...the dialed up service and attention to detail permeates in every person...from the way we were greeted at the door to the front desk, the servers (and excellent knowledge of the menu) and chefs...it was a beautiful, delicious exquisite meal/evening experience. Note, the bread sticks come in a custom silver holder with a daschund on it. Adorably elegant. Ask them the story behind it....like a great Italian restaurant, it has heart...and i will give you a hint that touch, the name and a few other sweet details are connected to a lovely Mother....how can one not love a restaurant that marries top quality fresh ingredients with love and care... My family and I were recommended to Margot for a good Italian meal that also was very gluten free friendly. From the moment we sat down, we felt like royalty. The service was amazing. ESPECIALLY THE SOMMELIER. She is so helpful and not to mention the coolest person and I want to be her best friend. This place took my gluten allergy so seriously and they even brought me a gluten free bread basket to start! I thoroughly enjoyed the risotto. My mom got the bolognese and she didn't love it. Based on its own bio, this resto with "Posh" environs prides itself on its top notch service and flavorful Italian fare. Unfortunately, the night I dined with my colleagues, Margot was neither. During our wait for our table, an exasperated front of the house/owner Paulo could be heard reprimanding his crew left and right--and seen running around like a rabid squirrel. Relaxing? More anxiety inducing unfortunately. The service was highly okay, with a mass confusion as to which server would take our order, and a sad case of slippery fingers as one of the help dropping foccacia down my back. These things could all be easily explained as one having a 'bad' night--so let's speak about the food. The rocket salad with tomatoes was unlike anything I've had in Italy. It was more of a tomato salad with rocket. The balance was off. Speaking of balance, the paperdelle with ragu looked delicious. But like a bad date, it was style with no substance. A scintillating looking cut of meat made plain with underseasoning. That being said, the decor was very nice. And the crowd was handsome and lively. But if you are looking for a true culinary experience, Margot will keep you hungry for something else. read more

Several weeks prior to visiting London in April with my two kids and boyfriend, I booked theatre tickets and then looked online for a good restaurant in the theatre district. With both kids being somewhat fussy eaters, I did lots of research and looked at menus of many places. I eventually chose Margot and booked a reservation. The online reviews I read for Margot weren't exceptionally noteworthy, but they were decent and there were a few items on the menu I figured my kids would eat. Our meal at Margot far surpassed my expectations, and ended up being our favorite meal and restaurant experience in London! Absolutely everything we ate and drank was fabulous, from wine to virgin drinks for the kids to appetizers, entrees and dessert (and we live in the San Francisco area so we certainly know what good food and wine is!) However, what made the experience exceptional was the service we received. Our wait staff (Alex from England, Bruno from Italy, a charming young man from Brazil with a name I can't remember, and Paulo the manager) went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were all very friendly but also professional and unobtrusive. They gave great recommendations on food and wine, and we enjoyed chatting with them each time they came to the table. Toward the end of the meal, Paulo, the manager, came to our table and introduced himself. We had a lovely chat with him before we had to rush off to the theatre. We didn't have time for dessert but hoped to return afterward for a nightcap. We were all too tired after the theatre to return, but both my kids said on the way back to our hotel, "Mom, that was one of the best meals I've ever had. Thank you!" And thank you, Restaurant Margot, for giving us such a wonderful London memory! read more
