Wine is such a finicky product to hone down to your taste. Mending Wall (Scott) transcended all expectations. I learned more in one tasting here than I have in many years of searching for a wine profile that fit my taste. I've put off writing this review for a year because I don't want the secret to get out about Mending Wall! I belong to several online groups for wine lovers and had read many positive things about the wine here. I am so, so happy that I decided to make an appointment and visit shortly after this gorgeous new facility was open to the public. If you know Napa cabernets and you follow the cult of winemakers, you'll drool when you utter the name of Mending Wall's winemaker -- Thomas Rivers Brown. Yes, he's a superstar and yes, these wines will simultaneously knock your socks off while cheerfully punching you in the face. My fellow big red wine lovers will totally understand and if you are one of those people who loves bold, fruit forward wines, a visit here will be like the mothership calling you home. The tasting room is done in an environmentally friendly, shabby chic decor, with concrete floors and repurposed metal tables, burlap bows adorning the trees during the holiday months, and beautiful natural materials throughout. The tasting room is a tactile experience from the moment you set foot inside, and it's unique and beautiful in its own right. There's even a charging station for your electric vehicle. There's not a winery tour per se, but you can sometimes ask for a brief walk around the grounds to see the custom crush facility. Many small wineries make wines here so you may recognize a few of the cult names on some of the tanks and barrels. The staff is small and well educated on the product and the winemaking process, and the employees we've dealt with (including Rachelle and Amy) are friendly and welcoming in a no-nonsense, "we are for serious wine lovers" way. And make no mistake: this is a place for real connoisseurs. If you don't know much about wine you'll still be graciously welcomed, of course, but this is a reminder that while the atmosphere is casual, a visit here is a visit that will (and should) be all about the wines! To clarify: this place isn't a drunk party bus central. During certain times of the year you'll be able to taste an amazing white blend called Stone & Stone and if you get to sample it, you're in for a treat. Ditto for the unusual Mortar & Stone red blend (one of the strangest yet most delicious wines I've ever had). The real superstar here are the big boys: the alluring and handsome Cabernets! Currently the tasting room has the 2013 and 2014 vintages available to sampling, and both are elegant and super tasty. I'm also a big fan of the robust Petite Sirah, which is a true palate-buster! Best to save that one for last. These are phenomenal wines that are distinctive and super yummy, and the price point is an exceptional value, especially when you consider the winemaker's talent and pedigree and the extremely high quality of the finished product. The wines are priced from $35 (for the white) to $95 (for the library cabs). The tasting room is open by appointment only, and you can easily request a time online. The winery charges a very reasonable tasting fee of $35 per person which I believe is waived with a 2 bottle purchase per person. (We've always left with a bunch of wine and have never been charged a tasting fee, so I don't know the official purchase requirement). As of now, you can only buy these wines directly at the winery, and you're going to want to stock up! A couple of little things: don't bring your kids and don't bring your dogs. You must have an appointment. They have gender neutral restrooms. Closed Monday and Tuesday (but the closed days may vary by season). We are huge fans of this winery. They do everything right. Seek them out if you're looking for something exciting and new and by all means if you love hugely bold, big red wines. read more

Went to Mending Wall by recommendation of Will at Schromsburg Winery (he and the bubbly were excellent) and had an absolutely amazing time at Mending Wall with Amy. Some of the better reds we have had during our years of visiting Napa Valley and by far an amazing value wine with her fun and amazing personality! It is a bit of a drive to reach Mending Wall on the Silverado Trail but well worth the trip. We are huge fans of Thomas Rivers Brown and the wines created here are all touched by this rockstar winemaker. Reds are the star here but they do offer a white that is very nice and at an attractive price. The star of the show for us was the Cabernet Sauvignon. As with most of the TRB wines, the wine has great structure, soft tannins and a very long finish. The tasting room is very inviting and we were offered a tour of the winery prior to tasting (we had a glass of Stone on Stone in our hand while touring), Wines are priced reasonably based on the winemakers pedigree and his record of 100 pt perfect wines. Mending Wall is well worth the drive when visiting Napa. 5 stars - Woohoo! As good as it gets. read more

I loved the atmosphere here and the fact that so much of the furniture and fixtures was repurposed in some way. The finished restorative look was consistent throughout. Amy was our hospitality hostess and she was fantastic! Making a great connection with our fun yet tipsy group, she allowed us to relax and experience the wines they make. The policy was strong here and it was a bit irritating - tasting fee waived for 1 person per each 2 bottles purchased. Seeing as we came in couples, it was odd to waive just the one fee. Also. We had experienced elsewhere the waived fees for the whole group when people were spending money otherwise. Honestly this is what turned us off from purchasing wine here although others in our group bought some. Glad we found our way here - great reds and they seem to pay particular attention to the Cabs. read more

The mending wall is a secret gem. Located off the main strip in Saint Helena, and giving all that visit a lot to offer. Private tastings are very well priced and Amy, our host and wine expert, was very friendly and personable. She wanted to give our party a warm welcome to the area and discussed various restaurants and events we should attend for our weekend there. This vineyard has an amazing selection of Cabernets with one year being better than the next. Highly recommend and don't hesitate to buy a bottle before you leave, you won't regret it! read more

Where do I even begin. This place is simply amazing. Amy D. Was our host and let me tell you- she was f-ing incredible. We do lots of tastings in the Napa and Sonoma region and this was bar none our favorite and best experience because of her. Oh- and the wine is phenomenal too!! I really loved the white- crisp, notes of apple and star fruit. The cabs were all enchanting, my fave was the oak wood if I had to pick. But really this review is to give mad props to Amy. What a magical spot! My friends and I did a lovely tasting here and it couldn't have been a better experience. The winery is beautiful, with a clean and modern look inside, great interior decor made of refurnished materials. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable; our host Nathan was fantastic. He was down to earth and charismatic, and had an impressive knowledge about the history of the winery, the winemakers, and their delicious wines. He was able to articulately answer all of our questions, and I for one gained a much greater understanding of wines and the winemaking process thanks to Nathan. Visited on 05/15/21. Scott was very knowledgeable and gave us a tour of the facility. This was either my 4th or 5th visit and the first time anyone offered a tour. Purchased 10 bottles (2 - 2019 whites, 3 - 2018 petite Sirah, 4 - 2018 NV cabernet, 1 - 2018 Oakville Cabernet) and will definitely return. Favorite was 2018 Oakville Cabernet. Upper end Cabernets are expensive and Magnums are over priced. read more

What a wonderful winery. Amy was our tasting expert and story teller. She was the best. She somehow managed that delicate balanced of being engaging, telling stories about the wine, winery and herself as well as letting us do our own thing. The wines are fantastic. Definitely focused on a bigger cabs. They have one white blend and one red blend and then they pour a couple of cabs of different vintages which is probably their bread and butter. Went for girl's weekend tour on a Friday and had a wonderful time! The tour guide did an amazing job of explaining the process, making it fun and pouring us some great tasting wine. Reservation indicates no under 21, which every winery obviously requires and notes. We made the trip up from San Francisco for an appointment only to be told this includes infants and children. Maybe we should have called ahead but it certainly wasn't explicit and we've never encountered an issue with several other wineries on numerous trips with our little one. It's private property and they can do what they want but we were unceremoniously kicked out with our sleeping 8 month old when there were 2 other people in the winery. Other colorful requirements include a ban on cologne and perfume so no decent smelling people allowed. Poncey uppity places like this don't deserve your attention or time. The wine may be good but their attitude, well, it just plain sucks. read more

Took my husband and my sister-in-law to this winery. It was the closet winery to where we were staying. We figured, why not? and WOW! We never knew the quality, craftsmanship and history that all of us were about to experience. The grounds are impeccable, and we were greeted by Mr. John Burke, who promptly offered us glasses of the 2013 "Stone on Stone" white. We were impressed, a perfect Sauvignon Blanc, a tang of honeysuckle with anise. I am partial to Sancerre's yet this was on par, not a strong mineral edge but it was present. Mr. Burke then took us through the wine factory, where one could tell the investment and capital that was put into developing and bottling their wine. After a 30 minute tour we sat down to an outdoor table and John took us through the tasting of 6 different wines. Needless to say, we ended up buying 3 cases of wine. Mending Wall has very good wine and an excellent over-the-top tasting experience. read more
