Any hope that you belonged to a cosmopolitan metropolis is dashed immediately when hearing the Menards song. "Saaaaave biiiig money at Menarrrrrrrrds!" Sigh. 35+ year old jingles aside, you're in the Midwest, the so-called heartland, where price is king and people spend money to save money, but maybe that's true everywhere in America. The two asides aside, this is an all right place. People are generally nice and helpful here, even if the buildings give off a slightly creepy "we're cutting every corner possible" kind of vibe. Yeah, it's split into two buildings, each probably from the 1970s or 1980s and maybe not remodeled since then, and they feel gloomy, even with all the ceiling lights on display. But you're not here to feel good, are you? What to buy here, if you're looking to save the large cash, as it were: paint, windshield wipers, glue, hand tools, candy and laundry detergent. Sometimes random electronics might be a deal as well. I'm any case, it's a viable alternative to Home Depot or Lowe's, but maybe not as nice as a smaller hardware store. read more

This Menards location has two buildings. One all the "main stuff" lighting, bathroom, tools, etc. The other, which is right next door has lumber and cabinets, amongst other things. You will typically find what you need at the store to the left upon entry, unless you are going for lumber, appliances or millwork items like cabinets. Note, you will find vanity cabinets in the bathroom area of the main store. This Menards location is very convenient, it is right off Hwy 694 in Fridley/Columbia Heights area. Found most of what I needed here. Though, there are are larger locations in the Twin Cities with more inventory than this location. Blaine and Oakdale to name a couple. read more

We recently did a full kitchen tear-down and remodel, and Menards was the place to go for all of our needs! The staff is helpful, and there are a good number of knowledgeable folks who had invaluable advice for our plumbing, flooring, and painting/staining projects. Just the other day, we went for a quick trip and one of their employees recognized us from a previous visit and said hi and gave our kids some candy. She was just one example in a long line of employees who are competent and respectful. We'll definitely be using Menards for all our future projects! read more

I came with my partner and our neighbor. We were on a quest to revamp our shared porches. We came with questions and the staff at this Menard's were prepared with answers. We received helpful advise about what kind of drill bits we would need to use, what kind of hardware is best for hanging our hammock and lots of guidance as to where to find everything in the store. We visited shortly before the 4th of July so I picked up some of the bbq ribs they have in a cooler and those totally slapped. Love this Menard's, will come again. read more

I don't get out to Fridley much, yet here I was. I needed a travelling table for books. Turns out it was in the building next door with their furniture. I like that and not having to go upstairs in an open glass area where vertigo kicks in immediately. I could have gotten it on sale for the holiday but I didn't feel like going out. So I enter the main building and all I needed was right in front among a bunch of cleaning supplies. A couple of cans of Febreze on sale so I didn't have to get the cheapest junk. And right in front, just steps away from the checkout was a huge display of Doritoes. Normally it's not much of a temptation, But for $2. they had my favorite Taco flavored. It's like there was a devil bobble head staring me down. Very nice staff to help you out. That's how I found out there was another building. read more

We just purchased a house, and therefore need housie-like-things. When I lived in MN before, I liked Menards, and they are local, so why not? This store is big and not well labeled; it is very difficult to find something if you don't have any idea where it would be. And then, since one normally gets bombarded with sales people asking to be of service in most stores, I expected this. So, I stand and wait looking like I may need help. Nothing. No big deal, I look about - confusedly. Nothing. I begin to search out employees - I see them! They walk past me, looking everywhere but at me - all of them, not just a few. I start to walk toward them, they walk away. ! I see a few loitering in an aisle chatting; I quickly (lest they run) walk over and ask for help. Their response? - "I'm not sure." "Maybe _____" Really?? This is always the case when I go here. Thankfully, I have realized that the Brooklyn Park Menards is far better - the employees actually look you in the eye and greet you! Someone suggested I get supplies to repair a sliding screen door at Menards. I tried to do so at this store, but was unsuccessful, The layout of the store is overcrowded and not user friendly, so I asked for help locating the items. A helpful employee did direct me to the correct area of the store, but when I got there, the size I needed (nothing unusual) was not there, nor could I tell if it ever had been. I then stopped at the Home Depot I had spotted on the way there and found exactly what I needed in 5 min without needing to ask anyone where it was, plus instructions that showed me a couple items I needed for this project that I did not already have. read more

The people at this Menards are so helpful. The challenge is that there are two buildings with two entrances and two checkout lines. I was trying to make a quick trip to pick up a garage door opener and lightbulbs. I had to go to two separate buildings and check out twice to get what I needed. Good service at a big box store?! I worked part-time weekends at Home Depot for over 5 years. So I've never been a big Menards fan. At "The Depot", we use to call Menards "Manures"...you know, like cow poop. That was many years ago and I've started to really like Menards and dislike Home Depot. Our family now calls Home Depot, "Home Cheapo". In any case, I had FANTASTIC customer service at this Menards on the evening of December 21! I was specifically looking for a large, pink lava lamp for my 10 year old daughter. No other color would do. It was one of the first things on her Christmas list. When I arrived in the Electrical Department, I discovered that they only had purple lava lamps on the shelf. I talked to the young woman who was working in Electrical and I told her that I needed pink. She looked in her computer and said they had pink lava lamps in "over stock". Apparently, this is Menards speak for: somewhere on a pallet, high off the ground, outside, in the cold. She told me they could grab it but it would take about 15 minutes. Having worked at a big box "home improvement" store, I knew this was a huge pain in the ass. I was already impressed that she offered to do this. And on a cold winter night to boot! And all for a 10 dollar item. Sure enough, in about 10 minutes, I had a very cold but a very pink lava lamp in my hands! I never expect good customer service in a "big box" store. But this woman was GREAT! (In retrospect, I'm sorry I didn't get her name.) In my old Home Depot days, this woman would have gotten a "merit badge"! Way to go! All of the other associates I came across that night seemed to be on top of their game. Not bad for a late Friday night! And they also seemed to be fully staffed, associates everywhere to assist customers. Again, this is a pleasant surprise for a Friday night before a holiday. Worst customer service and staff are contradicting, which proves how unprofessional and shows what little knowledge their staffs posses. I used to always shop at Menards. Even though their service sucked majority of the time, I never let it bother me much, but this time, they've done it. If you want your big purchased items to go home with you, make sure you can take it with you at time of purchase!!!! They will sell same item to multiple customers and leave others with nothing. Bought a big product on Friday. Guy tells me that I can pick it up anytime after the purchase as long as I have my receipt. Sunday, I finally have the vehicle to go pick up my product just to get there and find out that they've already sold that same item to somebody else, and now I don't have my product that I was promised (already paid for). Maybe I wouldn't have been as upset if the guy helping me didn't try to blame me for their mistake. Told me that it was because I didn't give them a specific date (they never asked me, if that really was required, it's their job to tell me) to pick up the product. Contradicts what the first guy who checked me out told me. His reason was because... even though they sell somebody a product, it still sits on the shelf if the customer doesn't take it home with them at time of purchase. I guess that allows them to keep selling it (one product) until it's gone from the shelf, instead of holding the promised item like everywhere else. Furthermore, the guy had an attitude instead of trying to handle it professionally. Nobody wanted to help us or apologize for their mistake so we just got our money back and took our business somewhere else. Will continue to encourage my friends and family never to shop at Menards. ****Home Depot did the job. When I'm working on a home project and think I may have bitten off more than I can chew, I come here. When my neighborhood hardware store has closed for the evening, but I'm just getting started on something, I come here. When I need to pick up a new band saw blade, and would rather support the local brand than Home Depot, I come here. Menard's is the name I grew up with. The entire basement at my parents' house growing up was finished with their lumber and sheetrock, and they are providing a good portion of the sweat equity in my current home. The people are always helpful, their prices are always the best around, and they're open just as late as any other big-box home improvement place. There actually is a Home Depot closer to my house than this Menard's location, but this is still where I always go. read more

The place for the best rebates! Honestly if you consider the high prices of Lowe's, fair prices at home depot, you'll get the best prices at Menard's. I would consider Menards to be the Walmart of the hardware world only with less questionable shoppers (look up "people of Walmart" and you'll see what I mean). That being said they usually have low prices and everything from the kitchen sink to nutty bars. I recently went there to get a flange for a drain. The employees there are pretty helpful for the most part and quite knowledgeable. The wood in the yard is always a second tier quality so you will be looking for that coveted straight board with no chunks missing from it. There you have it, they will probably have what you need and it will probably be a decent price. read more

Don't rent a truck from these people. The $18.95 is a joke. I had the truck for 2 hours and 15 minutes and it ended up costing $60.00. Customer service went from very proper (asst. manager) to slow (check back in) to hostile (one of the clerks at the main desk has a chip on her shoulder). Totally misleading. This is the second time I've tried to make a standard return to this store. The first time I just gave up after being made to feel like crap about taking advantage of their standard everyday return policy. But I gave them another shake (poor memory or too much faith in people?) and bought a set of chairs from them. I asked a TON of questions about the return policy as we did not know if our house would sell quickly or not at all and explained we may need to take advantage of the return policy in case our house sells. We were assured up and down that was ZERO problem. (of course at the time of purchase) Until I just went to return them today. The store manager accused us of "renting" the chairs and claimed he's not a furniture rental store. I pointed out that printed on the receipt I was within the range for returns and he pointed to the term "allowable" and said it may not "allowable". I asked him for his definition of "allowable" and after blubbering into his shirt for awhile, it became clear that these customer service people make the definition up. If they think they can score points or shame you for returning an item they will deny it. I actually saw glints of what can only be described as glee in the cashiers eyes as they reveled in denying the return. We called on moving day prior to hauling the damn things up and they ACCUSED my girlfriend of IMPERSONATING A MENARDS EMPLOYEE!!! Leveled an actual allegation of deceit!!! These people are a specific form of troll that have been dealt a piss poor lot in life and they take out their life's frustrations on honest customers returning products they were assured they could return. I left the store where a friendly Russian guy said these guys, especially Scott the store manager, were a bunch of clowns and just to drive to a different Menards. Thanks you, random Russion guy!!! Zipped up to another Menards, in and out in 5 minutes, returned easy peas-y lemon squeezy. This review only reflects the return process here. I mainly go to this place out of pure convenience as the service is usually horrible, other than a cute lil old lady that works the checkout, and the returns counter :) Actually I've had a pretty good experience with the guys in the yard as well. It's the little things that make a customer feel valued, things like looking us in the eye when passing us in an aisle when they can tell we're not finding something, lost, etc., and not making the customer feel like a pain when asking them for assistance. Their prices are better than HD most of the time but there is definitely something to be said about customer service. read more

If you're in the store picking something up, I'm sure everything is fine. Ordering something for delivery? Save yourself the trouble, and choose another store. Or prepare to be disappointed and not have your problem resolved, let alone acknowledged. Ordered a fire pit kit for my backyard. Paid $80 for delivery. Contacted immediately because I couldnt have the delivery date I had scheduled from the website. Rescheduled. Was then told I would have to go into the store and pay an additional $10 because I wanted it delivered to my back yard, where the fire pit was going to be installed. Stopped in, paid the $10, gave them 2 phone numbers to call when they were at the house to drop off, and instructions on 2 different ways to get into the back yard. Neither pieces of information were used. Delivery was dropped out front, no phone call, no stopping to let anyone home know the driver was there, instead coming in and dropping the pallet on the farthest corner of the property from either of my gates to the back yard, and dropping it from so low that where he left it, tore up my front lawn. Have a problem with something's Menards does? Have a legitimate reason for complaining? DON'T plan on hearing from anyone from the store to resolve it. Communication was quick and easy when Menards was asking me for more money for my delivery, but as soon as it was dropped in my yard, communication gas stopped completely. I wasted my time going into the store to pay more for a special drop location. I wasted my time hauling it all from my front, which I could have done just as easily and saved myself $90 if I would have just picked it up from the store. Wasted my time asking for help and communication regarding the poor service. I waited 48 hours from my initial complaint to the delivery department for a response. Escalated it to the corporate website who 48 hours later said they would forward my complaint to the GM of this location. Now have waited another 72 hours for ANYONE to reach out to me. I have heard nothing. Don't waste your time. Find another store to get your home improvement needs from. Menards clearly doesn't care, even though their site says they're dedicated to quality and service. read more

Then a very friendly associate named Clark, who I don't even think was working in the paint area, asked if I needed help, seeing how confused I was, and explained everything I needed to know. He was really helpful and I don't think I could've finished my house without him. read more

I was in the store on 10/22/15, between 4 and 4:45pm. I needed to purchase a furnance filter for my brother in law, apparently he did not know how to find the size since what I was given, does not exist. I also needed a new air vent, which also does not exist since my home was built in 1954, so I need an odd size. The only thing I had in my chart was a small Stanley Pocket knife, which I put back in the location I found it and returned the cart to the others. I was promptly followed out by a female loss prevention associate, who approached me at my truck, asking where the knife was. I explained to her where it is and she made me go in the store to show her. I never gave her or any other employee a reason to believe I was shoplifting. I have never been so humiliated in my 48 years of life! I was too upset to complain to a manager at that time, once I did calm down, I returned to inform them of the incident. They could care less and gave me the most insincere apology I have ever heard. I will not be back to that store, nor will other friends and family who were told of the incident. By the way, I did not purchase the knife since they did not have the other items I needed, which were more important than the knife. Seriously still pissed off and humiliated!!!! read more
