I went to purchase a chain and locks for my gate and had the most pleasant customer service experience due to the diligent, helpful hardware staff I encountered. It was close to closing time yet the gentleman and his manager assisted me and took their time as if I was the most important customer of the day. I didn't bring cash so I couldn't tip them for going out of their way and I didn't get their names either. This store seems to have everything, and a ridiculously large selection of that everything. At the moment I walked in, I thought I had made a mistake in my years-long allegiance to Home Depot. (I was even willing to overlook the surly, mean-mugging teenager in the parking lot collecting shopping carts.) Well, my mind got changed back pretty quickly. We were looking for a specific style of baseboards--we had bought some from another store years before and wanted to finish the project we had started then, but the store had since discontinued the size we were using. They told us they had seen the size at Menard's and that's how we got here. We found the boards but had some questions, so we tracked down an employee and asked for help. (They don't come to you and offer help; they walk right by without even acknowledging your existence.) We had picked the boards and were discussing the number we needed (a few sentences' worth of discussion), the employee said he'd let us talk it out among ourselves and he'd be back. We finished out discussion within one sentence, and waited. And waited. And waited. My husband went to the desk and asked that the gentleman be paged to come back and finish helping us. We waited some more. Other employees walked around, talking to each other and not noticing us standing around. Kept waiting. I looked at my phone and saw that it had been a full 16 minutes since the employee told us he was coming back, so I went back to the desk and went full-on retail-nightmare-crazy-customer. At least this got us someone else helping us, who tried to sell us three more baseboards than we needed, and recited his times tables to me when I pointed it out to him. We got our boards and I was just ready to get out of there and never come back. We would have left long before that if we had known of any other place at all that carried them. Their customer service isn't just bad; it's like they don't want you there. read more

Avoid exchanging propane tanks at the evergreen park location. Since the line to get in the store was very long, I used the kiosk outside. The machine approved my card but the door to the tanks did not unlock. I ended up speaking to five employees that day, as soon as I mentioned the kiosk, all five said "the door didn't open". I was told the purchase did not go through and to just pay for the exchange at the register. After getting the exchange done, I checked the bank and I was charged for the exchange and $48 for a new tank. I went back in and was told the hold will fall off my account. Well it's two days later and the hold is still on my bank account. I went back to see if I could get the hold removed from my account and was told I have to wait 7 business days, then deal with corporate. And I shouldn't be upset because it's "just a hold, Menards didn't take any money". Maybe I'll get my money back in a week, maybe I'll get the run-around with Menards corporate office, but for sure Menards lost a customer. Plus, they never put an out of order sign on the kiosk, so others will have the same problem. read more

I went to the fencing department to order a railing for a large pool stair project. I spoke to Pablo who was very knowledgeable and patient. He even went as far to call the manufacturer to get specifics on the products. Pablo could not of been any more helpful or friendly. It's that kind of service that keeps a customer returning to the same store when there are many others choose from. Customer service at it's finest! read more

I went in here to make a quick run to grab something for my dog, but it is a very clean menards. The only issue I have with them is that there weren't enough cashiers for the number of people looking to check out. They eventually sent someone to open a register but we had been standing there for quite a while before they decided to open another register. Also it was pretty difficult finding an associate to assist me with what I was looking for. Otherwise a pretty clean and orderly hardware store. I'd go here again if in the area and in need of something. read more

Wife ordered 2 items ahead to be picked up by me. After walking in front door and waiting 10 minutes plus at service desk I find out customer pick up is at farthest corner from door. After waiting for someone to show up finally get my items. With no bags to carry my purchase I'm offered a cart. Could have walked in picked up items (closer) to the door, paid for them and been out quicker. Definitely do not see ordering ahead of time to be convenient. Follow Targets lead for better service. Five minute pickup turned into 20 minutes plus. read more

This is my go to store for popcorn. You can get a 12 bag box for under $4. Plus they have a dozen different popcorn toppings to choose from, more than I've ever seen in a grocery store. Anyway, this place is close and I'm there almost every weekend. My two complaints are that I can never find a knowledgeable staff member when needed, although sometimes I don't mind wondering around that huge store. My other complaint is constantly being bothered by these sales people in the back of the store telling me about "the great event". I don't have cable and don't care. It seems like they always catch me when I'm with my kids and I just need to grab something and go. I don't know why these people are in the store, but it's very annoying. read more

I was shopping here and looking for some plumbing parts. I was having a hard time finding what I was looking for. I ran into one employee and she told me she didn't know about the plumbing parts. We went and asked another employee a Maggie and when asked she says I don't know shit about plumbing. I then found the employee who was from the plumbing department, 20 minutes later helped find what I needed. read more

My son and I went to this location on Sunday. We were looking for items to deal with a leak in the kitchen as well as a kit to replace silicon in the bathroom. First of all, there is NEVER anyone to be found that can provide any help! When you are lucky enough to find someone, they can't help you. Sadly, this is something I've gotten used to at this location. The thing that really broke the camel's back is when we found the silicon finishing kit, it was opened. So we asked if we could get a discount on it. We were told "well, since all the parts are there, I'm not going to approve a discount". Ok, so when you go to the grocery store and a can is dented, the store will provide you a discount, even though "all the contents are there". So, I couldn't understand the logic. Basically, I could either purchase the kit opened, or try my luck finding it somewhere else. This interaction reminded me why I don't shop at Menards. The only reason we went was because it was an emergency. Honestly, I feel that as customers come in the spend their money, the service should be much better. Even though Menards is closer to me, I will never return to this location. I'll go to either Lowe's or Home Depot to get better service. read more

Hats off to the general manager of this store all his staff is very helpful and if they cant answer your question they will find someone who will. The management of Evergreen park needs to run a clinic for the Bridgeview store this whole store including manager are ignorant and rude. Bridgeview is a 10 min drive, Evergreen is 20 min I'll gladly travel 10 mins more to go to a store that has class. Menards corp take notice!!! read more

I bought a lot of product in menards last year from fencing to flower pots and garden eging.in the end of the year things just start falling apart.the cider fencing boards craked and bend horrible quality it doesn't look like cider.trow away a lot of stuff waste money.never again rather go to home depot or Lowe's. read more

Upon entering Menard's, you're greeted by one of it's friendly staff or the security. Well lite and clean! My second visit to the store wasn't so pleasant. I had a bad experience in the paint dept. Not knowing a lot about paint, only what I like. The manager didn't seem friendly and seemed to be in a hurry to brush me off with the questions I was asking. Finally, I asked for the manager. The Asst. General Manager came. Very professional, friendly and most important, customer service oriented! He quickly apologized for any misunderstandings, assure me he would speak to the Paint Manager, and wished that I continued to shop as a valued customer. Well it worked! The Paint Manager is very friendly as well as the staff. Very helpful in assisting you with finding what you need. Don't rush or brush you off as Home Depot or Lowes! Easy to find an employee to help. I love this store!! I hope it continue to offer friendly and helpful employees! On another note which you rarely find while shopping in stores on the southside of Chicago, every employee smile and greet you throughout the store, which is a PLUS!!!
