I feel it's deceiving that the store acts like it's cheaper to get propane filled there. They add a charge per tank plus the amount of propane you get. It works out that a 30gal tank is $5 more to fill at Menards than to go to Hicks gas and fill them. Plus the people at Hicks are nicer lol read more

Went there today for some basic garden supplies, mulch, top soil, and grass seed. Not a flat cart to be found in the outside garden department. NO TOP SOIL to be found anywhere. Found the mulch but no price on it. Did find the grass seed and the cashier Jane was friendly. read more

Then even after I took some pictures I asked for a discount since the box was disheveled and I had to wait 10mins just to speak to someone. I understand the motto "save big money at Mennnnnaaaarrrdddss" with brilliant clarity now; they pay half-brains half a whole-brained person's hourly wage in order to cut down overhead and hence save big money. They send penny-pinchers up and down the aisles in a 20 minute detour from where shoppers intended to be with these workers and shoppers hence melt at prices along the way that may or may not induce the hoarder in them to splurge a penny or two more. Brilliance? Perhaps if when I had asked the worker "where to find the carabiners?", she hadn't sent me to the pool toy section for carribean themed floats. The first thing I asked was actually, "I am looking for a hard hat headlight...." To clarify I said, "It is a light, that goes on top of a hard hat, that furthermore goes on top of your head." The worker looked into space for a good 10 seconds, and AHA it came to her where precisely it would be. She took me to the lighting section to look at the lamps. DOH. I mentioned, "The headlight attaches to a construction hard hat so that I can observe things illuminated handsfree." But like a mosquito she continued to flock to the light. I sure as hell can't carry a lamp around with me at the job site. We passed another associate and she at least paused to ask for his 2 cents... (or for any sense)... He replied, "Well I'd say try where them construction hats are." So we walked a quarter mile across the store to find it... only to not find it. She said, "I don't think we have it here honey. Sorry!"... I quipped, "It's definitely here... only every single one of my co-workers said they got theirs here, this brand, at this price. If you are out of stock that's one thing, but I know for sure Meeennnnnaaarrrdddsss carries this item in general. Can't you look it up on the computer or something?" She seemed flustered and walked away from me. I actually felt bad. I was being a pest. But I was irritated. Sleep deprived. overworked. I am 50 miles away from home, near my job site and I NEEDED that tool, THAT night. I called my boss. "Chief I am here at Mennaaarrrdddsss and either the staff is challenged or I am unlucky enough to find a Meeennnaarrrddsss that doesn't actually carry this item." He laughed and said, "Oh it's there. Look by the flashlights. This brand. This price." I walk over to the flashlights and AHA! Lo and behold 5 different brands of hard hat headlights were there, including the brand I needed at the price my boss quoted me at. The lady shows up a minute later. "Oh you found it! I just checked the system and it said it would be here" Was I mad? No. The lady did her darned earnest to help me and I in the least appreciate that. What I am peeved about is the management. On a solo detour across this place I watched 2 teenage employees flirt with each other instead of offer me help. While looking for small sized latex gloves (of which they only carry large - GRRR), I overheard 2 lady employees giggling and chattering instead of helping me. And lastly, it took 3 employees to help me find the hard hat headlight, of which the phone call to my boss actually brought me to... management should spend a small penny or two and provide training to their employees on how to help shoppers "save big headaches from Meeeennnnaaarrrdddsss!" read more

Yesterday I went to Menards store in Bradley and tried on a jacket I liked it and I put it under my arm I kept walking looking for the material I needed I put the jacket on the shelf and went outside to look for the material I needed it was like 8 4x4x10 cement and many more things so I go to pay I pay everything and already outside the store a security person reaches me and asks me if I had tried on a jacket I told him yes but with all the material I was looking for I had forgotten it he told me to follow him and tell him where I had left it I went into the store and took him to where I had left it angry he asked me if I wanted to buy it I said no what I wanted was to leave the store because people were staring at me as if I had stolen something it was very embarrassing then angry he asked me for an ID I told him I had no reason to show him anything because I had not stolen anything angry he took me to the door and told me to get out it was a very embarrassing moment all the people were looking at me thinking that I had stolen something it was very embarrassing. read more

I enjoy shopping here for home improvement things. The staff is friendly and the prices are better than their competitor down the road. I'm not sure if it's coincidence, but it seems like I'm always running into friendly, helpful customers at Menards! The people who shop here are friendly! :) In the toilet isle we talked to a happy customer who told us how easy it was to install a new commode ourselves and gave us some tips.... On another visit while I was loading heavy bricks into my trunk for a landscaping project a gentleman customer stopped and helped me load them! ... I used to buy a lot of paint from Menards for my six rental properties and our home in Bourbonnais. But, I gave up on them due to the poor quality service of all the 20 year olds this store has working there. I had way too many cans where the paint formula numbers don't match those on the numbers of the can I brought in. The staff typically just hands you the mixed can without even opening it and showing you what it looks like. Once I asked the kid behind the counter why they don't do that and I was told "because we're busy". (A total of two other customers besides myself were present.) My wife unfortunately had to stop by there today for some deck paint in a can size they don't carry at Lowe's. She asked for a dark Cabot custom color, Newburyport Blue. The kid mixes the paint and hands her the can. She says "Wait, I want to see what it looks like before I pay for it." The kid opens the can. The paint is light gray. He looks at her like "Did I do good?" Totally incompetent. Way to go Menards, another screw up; this one at your expense. Unfortunately she ended up spending 15 minutes at the paint counter there. Totally ridiculous service. Much better service at Lowe's and Home Depot. Recently in talking to an employee in the paint department at Home Depot, they told me they are sent off for three days of training specifically about paint. Menards, are you listening??? read more

I went to the Bradley Menards to look at a range oven on clearance. The range had scratches and dents - and a brand new range (almost identical) was only $100 more. I spoke with manager to get additional % off due to the damage. I was willing to take it with flaws. Store manager was like a robot. Refused to take anything off for damage. Not even 10%. Ridiculous. My experiences with Menards is always negative. They refuse to work with customers. It's a shame. I left their store and ended up buying a stove and refrigerator from Home Depot that day. They work with you and ensure customer satisfaction. I will no longer go to Menard's. Strongly recommend Home Depot. read more

My family was in the Bradley, IL store yesterday (3/21/21) around 12-12:15pm and were treated extremely inappropriate by an employee named Tom (he was a short, older man). My husband had his mask down because we were talking and Tom approached and asked if we needed help. My husband started to ask and Tom interrupted him saying he would not help him unless his mask was up...Tom approached us. So, we walked away and went and found what we needed on our own. Tom proceeded to follow us and kept trying to lecture us about masks (my husband had pulled the mask up at this point). We tried to walk away again and he proceeded to follow and yelled from across the store as we got farther away from him. It was very unprofessional and unnecessary, and it scared my children. And the really sad part is that when we were in the check-out line Tom showed up again and just stood there staring at us. It was very creepy and kind of stalkeresque. read more

I went thru a pretty intense home rehab project a couple of years ago that really changed my opinion on hardware stores. I'm not the handiest guy in the world so I relied on the kindness of friends and the assistance of strangers to learn what I couldn't find online. Menards became a go to for two important reasons. First, I would price every purchase between all the options available and Menards had the best prices on most things I needed. Critical when working on several projects at once. Well, considering Lowes is right down the street, I'd usually go to Lowes for most of the supplies Menards has. If you're looking for wood, go to Lowes. Lowes and Menards have the same prices, but Lowes has a better floor plan so it's easier to find the cuts you're looking for. The only thing I go to Menards for is dog food. They're the only place in town that sells Diamond Naturals. It's a good food for a good price for those looking to feed their dogs a better diet but can't afford the really good stuff. It's usually around $30 for a 40 lb bag, but they often have it on sale for $25. read more

After we failed to get our 2x4 from Lowe's, we swung by Menards. We walked up to an extremely reluctant employee to ask for help and tell him what we needed. I spelled it out for him. We wanted a 16 footer, 2x4, cut into THREE 5 ft pieces. This dude was grumpy as hell and truly didn't want to help us. After he gave us our invoice, he flippantly told us to go to the lumber yard and our wood would be ready. We, like fools, went to the lumber yard, standing around like idiots, not sure what to do. After much wasted time, we drove through the "security check point" only to be told we had to pay for it first, then come back. We were never given those instructions before heading to the lumber yard. After we wasted more time, we paid for the lumber and headed back to the check point. We drove up to the barn with the lumber. Sat there all of 5 seconds and decided we needed to pick our own wood and I called this blond man-child and we showed him our invoice. He told us that we needed to pay more for the extra cut. We were confused and I explained that I told that first grumpy Ahole that I specifically stated THREE pieces. This man-child literally laughed in my face and shrugged, like not my problem. Again we wasted more time, having to return to the store to get the invoiced fixed and pay extra for the cut. If this was not an emergency purchase, we would have gone for our refund and left the store. DESPICABLE is what it is. This Menards has lost my respect. read more

We purchased an item online. We get an email receipt saying "status: ready for pick up". It's a large item that we had to drive the truck with crummy gas mileage all the way down there to go get (over a half hour away). We got there and the guy that lets you in the yard has no idea where to look. So we drive around and ask someone else who also doesn't know. Turns out they haven't carried it for 3 years. By now I've wasted an hour of my life and I'm ticked. We go inside and the guy is like yeah sorry. They have 123 in Schererville. Not helpful. He says he can have some delivered to the store. I suggest that since we drove all the way down there already they deliver it to my house. I'm told sure, but I would have to pay delivery. I already paid for gas to drive to the store for nothing! This is their mistake! Why should I have to pay delivery too?!? We got a refund and will have to find another store to buy this stupid item. I will never shop at Menards again! I have literally spent thousands here in the last 2 years. This is not how you take care of your customers!! read more
