8/12/25 2:30 p.m. We have been here several times and plan to continue to go back. The overall selection is pretty phenomenal, and the store (plus the outdoor side) is quite large. Inventory seems to always be pretty well stocked. The layout can be a little confusing at times, especially if you're trying to find something that you saw on their website. Yes, the aisles are labeled, but they can be a bit off, which adds to the confusion. The store is kept clean and organized; nothing is scattered around or lying in the aisles. The employee interactions that we have had have been somewhat mediocre. The first time we had to ask a question about something, the employee that we interacted with was very pleasant and greeted us with a smile. She walked around to make sure that we found what we were looking for and answered all of the questions that we had. She was very patient with us. The second time that we had to ask an employee a question, he seemed very annoyed that we were even there, let alone asking him a question. He gave us a very simple answer and then walked away without even clarifying what he had just told us or making sure that we found what we were looking for. It seems pretty hit or miss, which is kind of expected at such a large place. read more

This is a terrific store with great customer service and seemingly everything that you would need in your home environment. It also has amazing lighting. There is plenty of parking in its private lot, and its location is less than a mile from Highway 30 and the 35/30 junction in Ames. We were impressed by the assistance we received from Gina and Myles. They genuinely cared about our end game and were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Gina tipped us off about a product and then walked us through the many options, while Myles was so kind as we thought through key needs. This store really works, and will be a prime option moving forward! read more

They are very helpful in the store. You can ask any of the employees for help and they will take you right to the item you are looking for

Returned some coveralls and the customer service lady was upset at me because the coveralls "did not have a tag" and she would have to throw them away. Then proceeded to tell me "were not Walmart okay?" when I told her a separate Menards representative told me returns worked like any other place (show a receipt). I understand her frustration, but probably shouldn't talk to a customer that way. read more

Menard's is now at the bottom of my list for places to shop. A few weeks ago, a branch destroyed part of my back yard fence, and Menard's was the only place I could get a compatible replacement. I bought it and was shocked to see they wanted $129 to deliver it, but being an 80-year-old heart patient, I had no choice but to pay. The delivery consisted of dropping it in the middle of our driveway, still strapped to a heavy 3'x8' palette. They did not even come to the door to ask where to leave it. They dropped it and left, leaving us to deal with the blocked driveway and palette we neither ordered nor wanted. When I contacted the delivery service, they said they would come pick up the palette for a fee! When I contacted Menard's, the delivery manager offered no help and stood by the delivery service. It was not until I threatened the delivery service with vandalism for leaving the palette in my driveway that they agreed to come pick it up at no change. That the delivery was handled this way, and that both the delivery service and Menard's both tried to stonewall, shows a total disregard for the customer. read more

The Ames Menards has been open since May 2019 and I wandered in the first time a few days after as I happened to be in town visiting my Parents. The shore was clean and shiny and I was looking for a charging cable, a flashlight, an extension cord, and whatever suited my fancy (and fit into a suitcase) as I spend the better part of an hour just wandering around. I can't explain it, but the exploration options are much more enjoyable than Lowe's or Home Depot. I also got a few ideas regarding lighting and almost bought some adhesive that didn't meet California VOC standards. In other words, something that actually worked well. Maybe next time. read more

What a terrible experience working with Menards and their delivery team. First off the utter lack of communication at the local level forced us to reach out to corporate office. Finally got things sorted only to be told, nope...not going to happen again. Ames menards has now missed 2 deliveries that I have already paid for on my orders that total over $6,000. Awful online and delivery experience-do not shop here if you want things done in a timely manner, without having to go all the way up to corporate customer -which apparently doesn't help anyway. I would out right cancel my order if we weren't already delayed in our bios process. read more

We have been impressed with Mendard's since it has opened in Ames. The employees are very helpful with suggestions and supplying directions to items. I wanted to trade a can of paint because the color wasn't right and didn't realize I needed my receipt for the replacement. I thought it would be an even exchange. However, they were out of the brand and type of paint to replace it with. When I went to customer service, there was not a problem. They have a kiosk that will look up the receipt and receipts are kept for a year. The kiosk was out of order but the employee cheerfully looked it up on her computer. Great service. read more

We bought Ultra Deck from ames and Ankeney and our both in our deck. There was a clear difference between the boards recieved in ames and those from Ankeney. The boards from ames are defective and showed obvious bowing. Menards would not handle it and the ultra deck company states "there is a slight crown to shed after" but would not provide a spec for the crown allowance. Use caution when purchasing this deck from Ultra Deck and check for inconsistencies in material before install and before cuttin or you will be left with a warped deck. read more

I placed an online order and went to the store to pick it up. I went to what I thought was a service desk, and was told by a very snippy employee I needed to go to the back of the store. Her tone was beyond rude. So, I go pick up my stuff, but I had to return a product. So back to the rude gal who AGAIN told me I needed to go to yet another area of the store. Come to find out this gal is a manager! It's not the walking the store I minded, but the salty attitude. There are other places to shop and if Menards can't find employees who can be pleasant and helpful, I'll go there. read more

If Yelp offered a negative star rating, today's trip to this store where you supposedly 'save big money' would STILL rate more negative stars than are available. We went looking for FLOORING, because my living room FLOOR was ruined by a water leak in the kitchen. Looking in the FLOORING section, all we found were unhelpful workers, laminate tiles (no, we need stuff for BELOW that bit), and carpet (no thanks, don't want that back). We next tried upstairs, where somebody FINALLY found time to speak to us, and directed us to the lumberyard outside. En route, we found what we were looking for (flooring panels of plywood, particleboard, etc;) but NOBODY around to help with selection. So we went to the lumberyard, a block-long trek, and found a guy who finally OPENED a conversation with "May I help you?" an HOUR into our trek, and got directed to... the area we had JUST left, with instructions to find the service desk ( No directions, though). Finally found THAT, and was told in a snotty tone by the teenager there to go... Back to FLOORING. We left. They may save some people 'big money', but they SURE DON'T HELP. read more

This store abused me and charged their customer an obscene ammount for same day shipping. As a Doordash driver, i deliver for dozens of different stores. Menards is by far the most abusive company for delivery drivers. First, they dont give you the correct store address. The address is off by 3 miles through the dense traffic and stop lights, and I made the mistake of going where they said to. After that I contacted Dasher support, menards dispatch (through a 1 time use number) and went to the correct place. From there, they didnt have signs for the pickup location in the front, I went in and asked, they said go arround back... in the back there was a gate and a barcode reader, but I didn't have a receipt, just an order number because door dash is handled by phone... I call again, then the door gets opened. I find a spot, go in and do the pick up process, but cant complete the pickup because my GPS says im at menards, not the incorrect address for menards they gave me... I call again, wait 5 min, close and re-open the app and finally I get the customers address..... But I don't actually get their address, instead I get the block number the apartment building is on. I dont even get an apartment number. I cant contact the customer because the "customer number" is actually menards dispatch... so I call them, they dont know the building number they give me "2300" and the lowest nuber on the block is 2302... they do give me an apartment number. But I still dont have a name or phone number for the customer. I figured out where to go via process of elimination for apartment buildings and the correct one has a mail room, but I dont have a name still so I have to get in. The complex has locked doors so I have to wait to be let in by someone. I deliver it to the customer and take a pic for proof. And look to see what the pay is. $3.25 This took an hour and I spent more on gas than 3.25. That is the minimum you can pay a driver with no tip. Then Menards reported me for being 17 minutes late... as "not delivered" despite the picture. Not only wont I dash for them, I won't ever shop there again. That might be illegal, what they did to me. My ability to work for Door Dash (even though I'm considered the top driver in the area) is in review, and if I see any signs of losing my job, I'm going to seek legal action for slander. read more
