This is one of the largest, if not the largest, urban parks in the US. I love what they've been doing with it lately! I just walked with some friends and children over the land bridge over Memorial Drive, and the kids loved watching the cars go into the tunnels from above, and waving at them - many waved back! Probably the most well known park in Houston. Th eres all kinds of stuff to do here. Obviously running/walking is done around the 3 mile loop which is the most popular activity. Additionally, there's trails for biking, picnic tables, a driving range/ golf course, Beck's Prime Drive-In, and a track area. I'm always running here a couple times a week. While I can't run the entire 3 mile loop, I still finish it and feel liberated afterwards. I see some who can run this multiple times w/o stopping. Someday I hope to be in shape like that! read more

Memorial Park is MASSIVE! Before going into the park, we rented bikes from the BCycle app from uptown and rode them all throughout the park. Be warned: if you haven't ridden a bike in a while and you're doing those inclines, you WILL feel it that night and it will be very painful (I know from experience). If you're an experienced bike rider, it's great. Lots of bike riders and runners and walkers and doggies. Lots of tree coverage for picnics. Even better when it gets cold out. read more

Beautiful Park Great spot for family hangouts/cookouts Amazing trails/views HOWEVER- Do not bike on any of these trails. We rented bikes and started our bike ride. There were other cyclists in front of us so we were not expecting the ride that we had. When we were far enough out onto a trail it was a little bumpy at first but then when we went to take a trail out it turned into the worst experience ever. So many bumps, rocks, hills we had to push the bikes up and so many mosquitoes that were eating us alive. If you are an experienced cyclist then go for it!! Just bring your bug spray read more

I am a little surprised that I have not reviewed Memorial Park because it is by far my favorite park in Houston to run at. Located near Uptown/Galleria area, Memorial Park has a beautiful heavily shaded 3-mike trail with three water stations for humans and your four legged best friends. Throughout the park you may find some basic workout stations like a steel beam for pull-ups and other aerobic stuff and also a bench for sit-ups and high knee lunges, etc. This place is never dead! Unless the Astros kicking ass in the World Series. LOL. Peak times are usually around 5-6pm and I've seen people running in groups as late as 11pm. The park is well lit during the evening with very few blackout spots. There are tennis courts available near Mile Marker 0 right next to the stretching area and Smoothie King. For those that want to get a quick run but don't have time to get home for a quick rinse, there are also showers located inside the Smoothie King building. Love this park! A Houston gem for sure. read more

Great park for a easy run. Be ware, the park's running trail around the golf course is gravel, so if you are training for a run/marathon, you may want to run on the opposite side or another park altogether. The trail is great for walking or running. Note the elevation of the trail doesnt change much. So, you are pretty much running on flat gravel. Other than that I see police presence at the park often, which is comforting. Besides the running trail, there are other amenities like Tennis, Golf, etc. It looks as though they are making park improvements, which is great!!! Can't wait to see the finished product!!! Parking.... ugggggh. On beautiful days, please prepare to go early or during off peak times. Parking gets packed fairly quickly. Although there are quite a bit of parking spots, you sometimes will have a difficult time parking and may end up circling around. read more

Great park for running, mountain biking, picnics, chillin. The three mile loop is wide and nice for running. Since they've put in the land bridge over Memorial Drive, I like to run from the three mile loop to the back trails for a shaded, more private trail. read more

This park is my go-to since the pandemic started and the gyms closed-- a big loop, lots of greens, a new lake/walkway, and even more new construction ongoing, Memorial Park is probably one of the best parks in Houston! They have water stations to fill your water bottle, doggie fountains, benches along the way, and nice scenery to enjoy along the trail. The newly opened area heralded by cute string lights is huuuuuge with tons of grassy space where families can play ball or set down a picnic. There's also a lot of walkways to meander~ Each loop is around 3 miles, and the majority of the trails (and all of the outer trail) are well lit even at night. Even better? The restrooms with sinks (i.e. not the port-a-potty) finally reopened, so now you can run for as long as you want and not worry about your bladder, whoo! I love coming here to puppy-watch, and with the weather cooling down, you'll find me hanging around here a lot more-- check this park out and happy running! :D read more

Love this trail! It's great because you can run anytime during the day and if you do run at night, there are a lot of people and the trail is lit up throughout the entire path. There are a few spots were the lights aren't super bright but nothing too scary as the roads are busy, as well. It's a 3 mile trail all the way around and there are tennis courts and a golf range, as well. Definitely recommended for night joggers! read more

This is a bomb spot for anything exercise. From running, to golf, and any sport involving balls. You can rent out fields,courts, take the kids to the playground. They have host running and biking events often. Many if the workout groups/organizations are out here rubbing and doing their fitness camps. I've even seen the military groups out here doing PT on a couple of weekends. My dog and I frequent the running trail often. They have water fountains every mile or so for both humans, and furballs. The running track is pretty wide so there's enough rooms for all the folks coming through​. Even so, there always seems to be a DAB that thinks they own the path :) A very good spot to get your run game on. Pretty crowded on weekends. read more

Great park with 3 mile loop and plenty of parking, but now many spaces are paid only. Construction is tough and it's dark at night. Swimming pool is only open a few months. No enclosed dog park, be careful of owners who let their big dogs go off leash. Growing pains but very exciting to see what happens next! Recommended! read more

"Must love running" was on a dating profile I came across recently. Sorry buddy, buts that's not the choice of words I'd use, as most of my life after one minute of it i was cussing under my breath. Just a gene my 10 miles a day runner of a dad didn't pass down. Now I should love it, as I know I need more cardio in my life. This is the very park I made my very first non-stop 3 mile run just 4 years ago. Its not the most convenient close to home workout but sometimes i just need a nice change of scenery. When i think of Memorial Park it usually only consists of that 3 mile loop. Its actually over 1000 acres which includes various trails and many other recreational activities. I like the parking lot for skating and cycling. My kids enjoy bicycle rides on the trails. They disappear into them for hours with my dad. I prefer hiking the trails. The volleyball games look so much fun and even though its one of my favorite activities I've never played a game here. Mostly due to not having enough friends who enjoy it as much as I do to even form my own team much less two for a decent game. They have tennis courts, baseball field, playground, soccer field, a pool and who knows what other hidden jems. Come explore it all yourself. read more

Great place, hate to share it however I'm learning how to grow. Sharing is caring. Fantastic outdoor gym for kids, pets, well for everyone. Walkers, runners, joggers, soccer, volleyball, tennis, swimming, heck there is cycling and church nearby. If you are thirsty for something other than fruit smoothies & water, there is even a bar within running distance which is also dog friendly. Best part is most of of it except for tennis, golf & showers are free. But even that's a steal at the price they charge so pretend you are at a club and make a donation/tip. read more

Park smack dab inside the 610 loop. Here's one thing; the main loop is VERY busy and parking can be a PITA. I like to park across memorial and run inside the wooded trails or walk the dog there. The natural expanse inside the loop is really nice to have for running, biking, or walking. read more

Watch out! On Saturday we just had our car broken into. The window.was completely smashed and my purse with all belongings stolen. According to the police, these incidents are happening very often at the park. There are gangs on the look out! They work in groups and just wait until you leave the car and check if there are any belongings left in the car. Where is the patrol/police? Nowhere to be seen! Surveillance cameras need to be installed asap!!! read more

The fact that Houston has a park so large is unbelievable considering all of the people and buildings around. I love that I am able to come here and get a nice walk, jog or even a run for that matter, just depends on how I'm feeling! Lol, I would come here probably two times a week but what I really like is the fact that I can ride my bike through the streets around the park at night time as traffic is not extreme during those hours. I have been coming to this park for years and really enjoy the scenic area along with water stations and lighting. I just don't get the hype! How is this park sooo much better than the other parks around Houston and it's suburbs. I mean there is always construction and dust, it's short on parking, you have to pay for parking, cars get broken into, need I go on? I have been running at this park for YEARS.. I went running today and could not pass it up bc it was so beautiful! I have to give a shout out to who ever designed the new layout that Memorial Park has been adding. It's becoming more amazing. They made resting spots with water fountains, benches and a bathroom towards the front of the park. I know they are only going to add more throughout time and enhance what is already a great 3 mile run! read more

This has become my favorite park in town. I usually just do a walk around the 3 mile loop. I came here on the day after New Years and it was ridiculously crowded. Guess everybody was still on holiday break and was trying to achieve their New Year Resolution. However, I came a day after and it was pretty empty. I heard the park is usually crowded after work hours. There are various water stations around the loop and some benches if you want to rest. You get a great view of nature as you go around the loop. There are a few playgrounds, good for kids. There is a golf course and tennis court. Around the loop, there is a picnic area. read more

What can I say about this park that hasn't been said by anybody else? I love going to Memorial park for my morning run and/or evening run. Even though a lot of the trees have been cut down now, but there are still some shady areas along the trail. My GPS tells me that a loop around the Memorial Park is approximately 2.91 miles so I always try to run a little bit further to get my 3 miles. Or, if you don't have GPS system, you can always start at mile 0 (by the parking lot near the tennis courts) and just follow the markers along the trail that you will see on the ground every quarter mile. When I feel like doing my long run, I start by the tennis court and run South towards memorial drive and then keep going East towards downtown and run around the buffalo bayou and back. You can get anywhere from 6 to 11+ miles doing this depending on whether you go as far as Waugh or Sabine St. My only complain here, as I'm sure many has mentioned, is parking. Finding parking in the evening or on Saturday morning can be pretty frustrating. Sometimes it would become so frustrating that I just don't feel like running anymore. Anyway, Memorial Park is still going to be my go-to park for running. One of these days, maybe I'll start going to Terry Hershey park. read more

Great park for walks, nature time, & photos. Love the walking trail, minus the rocks that gets in my socks lol. But definitely a great, clean, & spacious park to walk with family & friends. Plenty of space and tables at the picnic park for reunions and such. Has a bike trail with rentals as well. Has a man made pond and a trail within the woods. There's also a golf course, tennis court, a community pool & other sport courts around. And a food truck area as well. read more

The park was super well kept considering Harvey hitting the August before last. They have porta potties...(thats all I have to say about that) Only thing I wished there was is more signage as far as bikes and hikers so we don't get ran over :/ Hiked for about an hour or so on the Purple trail. It was pretty easy breezy despite being lost most of the time (I was following my app). I went with my dog and we encountered some areas that were super steep and hard to hike up but we managed. There were some muddy areas so leave your Yeezy's at home and bring an old pair of shoes that you don't mind getting messed up. The signs on the side of the path were fairly easy to understand if you have your bearings. Definitely going again soon and possibly bringing friends. read more

We absolutely love taking our dog to the back trail in this park. It almost like you've been teleported to a national forest instead of an somewhere in the middle of a big city like Houston. The best thing is this park is only a 10 min drive from our house so it's perfect for an impromptu hike. It's also great for beginner hikers since it's so close to the city and the trails aren't that long so you can turn back anytime. Although each trail on its own isn't very long, there are multiple trails within the park so you can customize it and make it as long or as short as you want. read more

I usually run about 4-5 miles daily in my neighborhood, but decided to go to the memorial park as the weather was so perfect and ideal for picnic and outdoor activities. I got there around 630ish shortly before sunset and was astonished to see how many people were there running and walking. I got the motivation I was looking for. They have this round trail which is about 3.5 miles long and it is ideal to run or walk. You will see tons of people either running or walking next to you. I saw 31 flavors, in quantity and quality. LOL. They also have a nice play ground and a rest area to mingle and stretch and cool down. Across the trail is the picnic area which you can plan your day n activities accordingly. My purpose was to go run the lap which I did and had a great time. So get your gear on, put on some beats and go the extra mile! read more

I love running Memorial Park. The main loop is exactly 3 miles. It's well lit in the early mornings. I have been there as early as 5:45 am during weekdays/ weekends and as late as 9pm.Its not completely deserted in the am as I first thought it would be; all to say I (young female) feel safe running there. read more

Went while the mask mandate was still in effect. Not one person other than my family that we could see wearing masks. And despite our efforts to social distance from others, people kept getting very close. Park was well kept and pretty however and would return when a pandemic is not happening. This has been the heart of my fitness journey. I accidentally stumbled upon this park almost a year ago and I love it. I never was a runner or a person who was motivated enough to workout outside of an aerobics class but I was motivated by all of the people who come here. You will see people from all ages and sizes pushing their selves out in the elements. Memorial Park has no faults I can think of. Why did I give it only four stars in my last review? I was stupid. And probably fatter back then. Memorial Park has much to offer: Golf course Biking trail Picnic areas Sand vollyball courts Restrooms Tennis courts Playgrounds Baseball fields Circuit training area filled with hotties Smoothie King and Beck's Prime And what I mainly come here for: the running trail What I appreciate most about Memorial is that there's almost always a crowd here. Not always something people want at their place of refuge, but if I happen to take a "late" jog around 8pm, there's enough people around to make me feel safe. Once nighttime hits, you really can't do that along Buffalo Bayou or even Rice U's running trails. Bonus points for all the hot fellas running around shirtless. You might get a few creepy stair-downs from them (yes!) and from less-fortunate-looking older men (no!), but that will just give you an extra boost of confidence ...until you see even hotter girls. Then you feel frumpy again. :( But that's okay. More reason to come back the next day and work off that bag of chips you ate with your salad. read more
