Hands down my favorite part of my recent trip to Savannah…read more I had signed up originally to do a couples' event, and well, wound up just going solo at the last minute. Anyway, they mention it on the website, but I feel you should know that if you change your mind about what exactly you want to make, they tend to be very flexible about this. I was able to change my selection no issue. The couples' event consisted of two glasses, and well, I changed my mind and made a glass, as well as a little baby pumpkin. Now before you get started, they make you sign a safety waiver and they give you some instructions as to what will be going on. If you get overwhelmed, don't fret because they make this so simple that a child could do it. Heck, children have gone there and had their fun. At least with Caleb, the instructor that I had, this was a seamless process. Caleb was a real gem and somehow I managed to get him to myself. An oddity in itself, but I went on a Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. I suppose most people were at brunch. It was the later evening slots that were busy. Just something to keep in mind if you're like me and get overwhelmed with groups of people. That said, it seems they cap these events at maybe a dozen people or so. Nothing crazy. This isn't the 30ish people you see at your typical painting class. At any rate, once the pieces are done, you need to wait 24 hours to get them. You can either pick them or have them shipped to your house. I chose the latter. Shipping for me was $35 and they came to me exactly one week later. Brandon, who I believe is the owner, texted me with the tracking number. From beginning to end, this was a legit joy. Oh, and did I mention that the pieces turned out beautiful? I'm dying to display them. Otherwise, Caleb provided me with many recommendations for my time in Savannah, including a restaurant I loved. You best believe I will do this again when I return to Savannah. Glassblowing is definitely not something you see everywhere. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, I think Caleb said around 300 people were still instructing this art. Who knew?

I've gone here twice now, once for a private event and again just this past week so I've been able to make two items here. I've made the lazy Susan and the chunky knit blanket. Both experiences were far beyond what I thought they would be. Again the staff is so incredible and a lot are SCAD students with all different outlooks on art. The experience both times was very personable and all around a fun time. I will 100% be coming back to AR Workshop. The owner was actually telling me they've set up some cool $10/$15 projects for walk ins and that's right up my alley! Affordable and fun! I can't wait to come back and share more experiences with the yelp community.

Our class turned out to be small, which is probably a good thing. There is only one sink so clean up could take a while with a large class. It's a bit pricy but what isn't these days. Our instructor is super nice and very patient. We have no experience so we need lots of instruction. He's kind and gentle in the ways he instructs. He doesn't make you feel bad when you totally mess up. He's also good at giving you encouragement along the way. The first class was all about form and how to work the wheel and clay. I'll try and update my review with pics once we actually make something that we are keeping. There was plenty of free street parking.

She was cracking jokes and making sure everyone had a great time. I was a little nervous my husband wouldn't like it as I am the crafty/artsy one in the family. But he got really into it...trying to "muscle" the clay and shape it into perfection. We got competitive with it. He was laughing with Clair the whole time. We messed up a lot. But the instruction was clear and delivered in such a fun way. We got to create something to take home...and will be such a great conversation piece in our house. The tomato basil soup in a bread bowl was like heaven. The fried green tomatoes were also a favorite. The short ribs with the smothered collard greens and the cornbread were on an another planet of goodness. You want fresh local oysters on the half shelf pulled from the water only hours ago, well they got you right in house with them lying on ice and a professional shucker right there to serve you with a beautiful smile. Did I mention the dessert bar? Freshly baked cookies, macaroons, mini red velvet cake shooters, lemon puff pastries, mini cheesecakes, and other treats that would leave the sweetest sweet tooth, toothless. The food was Southern, but wound up a notch. It was not boring. It was not common. If you're in Savannah for a work conference or need a place to meet to discuss business with your team, host a holiday party, or have a small wedding reception, do not skip The Room at Common. One thing I appreciate is how attentive the staff is to each guest. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. You feel as if you're one of the family coming to visit. The cocktails are delicious. We were looking for a small, intimate, and beautiful space to host our micro-wedding celebration, and after reaching out to many places in downtown Savannah, The Room at Common stood out immediately. When we did our site visit, it was exactly what we had envisioned and more. The space is beautifully decorated inside a historic Savannah building and offers thoughtful features like a Frame TV for slides or welcome messages, private restrooms, a private bar, and the ability to play your own music (which is rare for a small venue and comes without extra charges). Leah was wonderful to work with throughout the entire process. She responded to our initial inquiry almost immediately, something that really stood out since many other venues took days or even weeks to reply. From the first email to the site visit and all the communication leading up to the event, she was incredibly helpful and reassuring. As someone who works in hospitality and tends to be a bit of a "controller," it meant a lot to feel confident that everything was in good hands. On the day of our celebration, everything was beyond what we imagined. The space looked beautiful, and we were greeted so warmly. Sammy, our server, was attentive and fun, and the bartender was fantastic as well. And the food... absolutely incredible. Every dish exceeded expectations. Our guests are still talking about it weeks later. The oysters were incredibly fresh, the steak was outstanding, and the fried cornbread, fish dip, and cheesecake were unforgettable. A huge thank you to the Executive Chef (who even came out to greet us) and the entire kitchen team. Every member of the team made us feel cared for and ensured we had everything we needed.
