Ordered a MacBook over 10 days ago, and it still hasn't shipped. The order status just says "Not Ready," and we've received zero shipping updates--no tracking number, no estimated delivery, nothing. They promised a 50% discount at checkout, but we were charged full price. When we emailed about it, their responses were copy-paste nonsense--completely unhelpful and honestly just rude. It feels like no one actually wants to fix the issue, and the whole thing is handled in a really unprofessional way. This experience has been frustrating, stressful, and extremely disappointing. I don't recommend ordering anything from here unless you're okay with being ignored and overcharged. read more

SCAD's bookstore could not be worse. At the start of the quarter, I purchased an instructor kit that included three 18x24 pieces of paper. However, they were packaged so poorly that when I received them, they were unusable. When I tried to return them, I was told they don't accept returns on "damaged" paper - even though they were the ones who damaged it. When I recently went to return my rented books for this quarter, I also bought a keychain as a Christmas gift. At checkout, I was asked if I needed a receipt, and I declined, assuming the transaction went through. As I stood there for a moment, unsure, the cashier, Tinara, dismissively told me, "Have a good day." Outside at the crosswalk, I was chased down by the same cashier, who informed me - rudely - that my payment hadn't gone through. No apology - just annoyance. As I returned to the counter she informed me that I hadn't answered the survey question so it didn't go through. I replied that I thought the payment had been processed since she had asked if I needed a receipt and told me to have a good day. She didn't respond. Once I paid and it seemed from the screen that the payment actually went through this time I asked for my receipt, not wishing to be chased down yet again. She printed my receipt and didn't say a word. The only thing she said the whole time I was back in the store was that it didn't go through because I didn't do the survey. Once again, no apologies, she just blamed it on the customer. This experience, on top of my earlier encounter with their damaged supplies, has left me determined to avoid Ex Libris. I'll be buying my books and supplies elsewhere. Every other university bookstore I've been to has been polite and respectful and at the very least professional. SCAD students deserve better than a rude and condescending bookstore experience. read more

Taking a look at the high prices here makes me wonder how the students who shop here ever made into college to begin with. In my mind this is one of those college book and sundry stores (Yes, they even sell overprice pillows for your dorm room) that takes advantage of the uneducated consumer. I only hope the kids I saw here putting everything on their parents plastic get some remedial consumer training courses. If you overlook the high prices, the long, long, slow, slow checkout lines, the overly geek staff at the computer counter and the woosie student Millennials sucking lavender latte through a straw at the in house SCAD Cafe 78, Ex Libris Bookstore is rather nice. It's very well laid out and has totally on point unique décor for a bookstore being pillar columns of books; mostly Federal Reporter law books. It both dates and pains me to note that when I was in college the Federal Reporters were some of the most need and most expensive books on the planet. Now, they're junk, rendered obsolete and worthless by the likes of LexisNexis and other computer related services and programs. read more

As a SCAD alumni, Ex Libris wins 5 stars from me with memories of buying books, last minute paint tubes during finals, and lots of fun SCAD swag and clothing. And the building is incredibly charming and inviting. We always say it looks like a store that would be in a Harry Potter movie, it's pretty magical in here with the neat book-lined pillars on the first floor, and the rows chock-full of art supplies! That being said, the realistic side of me is constantly looking at the prices of paints, then cross-checking on Blick online, and finding that its wayyyy cheaper to buy online versus here. Plus, there are other art stores in town with more competitive prices. Regardless, it's still fun stopping in anytime we're driving through Savannah to scope out all of the art goodies :) read more

Stuff for parents...or anyone else looking for SCAD branded items...and, of course, a focus on what students need. All the books seem to be very easily accessed and the upper floors have great service to fill out whatever is needed for classes on lists that you might be completely unfamiliar with terminology used if it is not your core subject of study. Pricing might not be the best but the idea of having one go to place to get it done and have one less thing to worry about (especially during a freshman orientation) makes it extremely useful. Check out service could be faster (and they could offer another foot of space to make things easier there). Service could also be better at the basement level -- for example, for incoming freshmen they did not know (on a Sunday) how to solve a basic freshman login problem to access the syllabus nor did they keep the printer there serviced with toner. read more

I have really mixed feelings about Ex Libris . . . on the one hand, as SCAD's student bookstore and art supply store, it's unique in its lovely restored industrial building and offers a lot . . . on the other, I feel it could be far better still. The layout is pretty simple: the first/entry floor is magazines, SCAD logo clothing, general trade books, audio CDs (not many, but a few), and a good selection of coffee-table type art books. The basement is textbooks and dorms needs like pens, notebooks, wastebaskets, lamps . . . the upper two floors are all art supplies. Here's what is great about them: --it's a lovely building and thus a delight to visit. --their selection of art-related magazines is second to none. --their selection of artists' papers (watercolor, printmaking) is also very impressive. --some of the art books they carry are very good and somewhat hard to find otherwise. --some, but not all, staff members in the art department, really know their stuff and are a huge help selecting supplies. Here's what's not so great: --too much space is devoted to SCAD clothing and gifts; the trade book section could be larger --their art books, on modern artists and movements, are good . . . their architectural books selection is somewhat wanting . . . architecture and related fields are important majors at SCAD, you'd think they'd carry more architecture books! --a lot of things, textbooks, art supplies, seem overpriced: I've found art books at much lower prices on Amazon.com and art supplies for less at Primary Art down on Broughton Street --they can order books for you, like if there is something you want which they don't have, but have exactly the correct information including the ISBN for them if you wish to go this route . . . if you just say something like "I need that one book on modern painters by Janet Smith or someone like that" you don't know WHAT they'll order, but bless their hearts, they will order something for you and kinda expect you to buy it, too. I once ordered Susan Sontag's "I, Etcetera" via Ex Libris and they ordered ten copies. Seriously. I bought one, and they were trying to sell the rest. I never understood how the fuzzy they ordered so many. Also, I've never found that anyone here knows a whole lot about art/architectural book publishing, new releases, or such. I spent a summer at the Rhode Island School of Design, and their school-owned art supply store runs circles around Ex Libris. I wish such wasn't so, but it is . . . come here for the magazines and to see what they've happened to get in, but aside from papers, I would suggest shopping at Primary more for your supplies if you're an art student or artist in the area. read more

So yeah, this is a college bookstore, but it's the bookstore of the coolest college ever!!!!! (I'm a current student and love it there!) Anyway, this bookstore is awesome, I love it! The basement is full of textbooks and some other random college supplies (if you are a student, don't buy your books here! Use that laptop you got for graduation and order your books from chegg.com, half.com, etc. The books there are full price and really expensive, the school is expensive enough!) The ground floor has a coffee bar with sandwiches and snacks, all the SCAD swag you could dream of, magazines of every kind, some that I have never seen, greeting cards, stationary, amazing books (I love to go there and look at all of the design books, I'm a graphic design major), cd's, etc. The top 2 floors are all about the arts baby! They have a ton of art supplies, but again, I wouldn't buy everything here. Go to Primary, it's a bit better priced, but sometimes Ex is just really convenient. I recommend this store for students and tourists alike, it's a really fun place (there are columns made out of fake books, they are so cool!) to beat the heat or catch up on your reading and grab a SCAD shirt! read more

Over priced and terrible service. I called inquiring about an item and not only was sent to voicemail four times (and this was during store hours), but once I finally got ahold of someone I was put on hold for so long that I had to hang up and drive down there to see if they had the item. Well they did have the item, and it was $15 over priced. The only good thing about ex libris is that they are always stocked and have everything you need for your classes. However, there are almost always other places to buy your supplies and you don't have to deal with SCAD kids half-assing their job as an employee at an overpriced art supply store. read more

I have come here a few times now but most recently had them frame a piece for me. I had a very short deadline and they were able to meet it. They also gave me a huge discount for being a SCAD student and since the piece was for a gallery opening on SCAD campus I received an additional discount. I asked their advice on a few things on how i wanted it to be presented and they gave their input and I appreciated it. They know what they're talking about and are very friendly. The bookstore for the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) is more than just a place for students to get textbooks, it's one of my favorite bookstores in the country - on a list that includes Elliott Bay Book Co. in Seattle and Moe's in Berkeley, CA. One of the reasons is that it's more than just a bookstore - it IS for an art & design college - so the art supplies upstairs are vast and creatively inspiring. Every kind of art and craft supply you could imagine or want or need. The books are varied, extensive and good and the cafe serves up decent coffee and sandwiches. There are gifts, often handmade by the students, and handmade in this context means gorgeous and professionally done. I always felt inspired and energized when I visited. Thank God I live in Seattle, a city with tons of fabulous bookstores, because missing Ex Libris would otherwise be unbearable. read more

Ex Libris is a four story (including the basement) book and art supply store. The bottom floor is textbooks and a few other random supplies you might need. The second floor has a food bar with soup, sandwiches (i think), snacks, and coffee, as well as the check-out registers and a ton of books. Most are art-related, but they also have books about the area, as well as most popular books. They also have some Cds and Dvds available. The third and fourth floor are filled with art supplies. I would really not recommend going anytime during the first week of the school quarter. The store is packed and the line wraps around the store and even continues on up the stairs. I'm pretty sure they don't ever use their air conditioner either. The staff is pretty knowledgeable, but sometimes don't follow through with things (i left my information so i could be called when something came in stock, and i never got a call). I think they are a little more pricey than the other art store, Primary, but I'm not completely sure. I'm not really a fan of Ex Libris, but I do have to shop there from time to time. Everyone else seems to love it though. read more

Expensize SCAD gear. GREAT look to it. Has everything you need. Prices are steep. But its convenient and the staff knows there stuff.

My daughter and I were on vacation in Savannah last week and stopped by the bookstore. Every employee we encountered asked if we needed anything. We were just looking around but it was nice to know we would get help if we needed it. When we checked out, we had the pleasure of meeting the nicest cashier ever. She and my daughter talked for several minutes about my daughter's passion for painting. Promyce (hope I spelled it right) gave my daughter a lot of encouragement. I live in Savannah and frequent this wonderful bookstore. It has most unique items/ Can't wait to do Christmas shopping for my grandson. They have all the technology stuff he loves. They kids who work in the shop are always so helpful explaining everything to me. The magazine section is fantastic. I use to go for lunch but no longer lunch counter. A famous chef made the most wonderful soups and such. Years ago, they also carried antiques sprinkled about the store. I have several. Cannot say enough about this Bookstore. This Bookstore has the basics needed for SCAD classes. It is open a lot which is helpful too. I enjoy the Jittery Joe's cafe in the back and the free WiFi. Love the new design with the added tables too. read more
