A True Gem in Savannah's Art Scene I had the most incredible experience at Blick Art Materials on Broughton while preparing for a watercolor class hosted by my apartment complex. Since I've also been gearing up to launch my own watercolor portrait series for Etsy, I was super excited to gather the right supplies. I came in with a list and a lot of enthusiasm... but also zero clue where to start! Enter Manda, an absolute angel who just knew I needed a little guidance. She kindly circled back to check on me, and I'm SO glad she did. Her warm smile and extensive knowledge made me feel instantly at ease. She gave me a full-on watercolor masterclass right there in the aisle--explaining the types of brushes best suited for portraits, the difference between synthetic and natural hairs, and even how brush length affects technique. Who knew short handles are better for control? She did! When it was time for her to clock out, she passed me on to Cesar, whose calm and caring energy made me feel like I was in expert hands. He's basically the Watercolor Whisperer! Cesar broke down everything--from starter vs pro-level watercolor sets to the difference between cold-pressed and hot-pressed paper textures. Even when other customers waited nearby for his help, he made sure I was fully taken care of before moving on. That level of customer service is rare and deeply appreciated. And let me not forget Chaylei, the radiant cashier with the cutest nose ring and a great sense of humor. Her energy was so fun and light, and she had me cracking up at the register when she found out Cesar's watercolor wizardry. The whole checkout experience felt more like chatting with friends than just making a purchase. The store itself is bright, well-stocked, and gives off a cozy, artist-hangout vibe. You can tell that everyone who works here is passionate about their craft and genuinely cares about helping people explore their creativity. If you're in Savannah--whether you're a SCAD student, an amateur artist, or just curious--this is the only place you need to go. I popped into Blick hoping for some pottery supplies- I figured it was a shot in the dark for what I needed and they did not have what I needed. I did find a couple of glazes to snap up. I tend to purchase items online with free shipping, but I do love browsing in person. They have a variety of art supplies, but seem to specialize in drawing and painting supplies. I didn't like the check out set up- the sign for the line was not easy to see and there wasn't a clear approach to the registers. read more

Art Supply Heaven! I didn't even take any pictures because I was so distracted by all the great supplies ! Great place to walk around for inspo on your next project. I will say it is probably not the cheapest art supply store but if you can't find what you want somewhere else it just might be there ! The employees are very helpful and walking around looking to assist you. I appreciate that they actually have enough workers so there is no long lines to check out and you are not walking the whole store to ask for help. Glad I stumbled on this place! read more

This is one of my daughter and I's favorite places to go (art stores, coffee shops, bookstores). You can order from Blick online, but it's fun to be able to touch and see the supplies and Blick has a large supply of items. They always have something on sale and offer discounts when you buy more of certain items like loose markers and paint brushes. And speaking of loose markers and pens, the selection at Blicks is the best in town. And you can try the marker out which is perfect. The customer service is always on point, sometimes a little over the top even. It's great for professional artists, the artsy and even kids. They have a whole aisle of kids art stuff. There is a larger selection of everything here than like Hobby Lobby or Michaels. It's large enough to walk around a long time on a rainy day or anytime you want inspiration. read more

Unless Blick's sells its soul to Walmart, I will probably always give the Savannah Blick's a 5 star review. I love this place. It's my happy place. Today, like every time I've been in previously, I was greeted at the door by a friendly associate. I think this visit I interacted with every associate on the floor. Everyone is friendly. And not creepy friendly, just a "hi welcome to all the art things, we are so glad you're here because art is awesome and you must be awesome too if you're coming to the art stuff store". Okay, that might sound creepy to you but to me it feels right Seriously, don't go to Michael's et al if you have actual art questions. Go to Blicks. I hate that the closet Blicks to me is 2.5 hours away in Tampa or 4 hours away in Savannah. I have purchased from Blicks online but it's not the same as the store experience, especially when you have awesome staff like the SAV Blicks. read more

Wow! I've passed Blick for years, but I finally stopped by on a whim with a friend who is an architect major at SCAD. I had no idea the amount of products they had here! This spot has literally every art supply you could ever need, and the staff was so incredibly knowledgeable. The store is a little overwhelming when you first walk in, but the aisles are all labeled; from paints, to wood working materials, to fabrics, and more- Blick has it all! Plus, there is plenty of staff walking around, who all asked if I was doing okay as I just wandered around in awe! My friend was looking for specific items, and they were able to quickly find exactly what she needed. The store has some fun little knick-knacks and gifts by the cash registers as well as a small art gallery located upstairs. I never realized how big this place was, and I highly recommend it if you're ever needing any kind of craft materials! read more

Excellent stock, well organized with an insane amount of products and abundant choices. The service was friendly and helpful the handful of times I've been there. You could not want for more at DBlick unless you're looking for a specific brand. It is pricey as most higher quality art supplies are so if you want good deals look for a back to school or holiday sale though they do price match if you join as a DBlick member. I'm actually incredibly jealous that SCAD students have such an awesome art supply store at their beck and call but the DBlick online store is good as well. Visit the store if you're a hobbyist, pro or student and cry tears of joy while everyone stares at you in awkward concern. read more

Always has good availability, I always get greeted and offered help, and last time they went above and beyond. I couldn't find a cardboard mailing tube anywhere and the employee literally went to the back to get me one of the tubes that they receive stuff in and would otherwise be thrown away. I really like to come here the staff is always very knowledgable and pleasant. I brought my school supply list here and they helped my find everything on the extensive list. Thanks guys! The store is also kept very neat and organized and most things are very reasonably priced. Racial Profiling at its best! Once again the Manager/Owner ceases to amaze me. This episode involved me arriving (on vintage austrian moped) to buy a container of Rapidograph ink. I had on a backpack in order to carry my large security chain for my bike. I opened the door and stepped into Blick. Before my right foot actually entered the building I was asked, in a hostile tone, What are you looking for. Mind you I physically hadn't finished even entering the building. I explained to the manager/owner who stood guard, that I "just walked in". Again he asked me what did I want. In a sift attempt to cover his racist profiling, he then followed up his comment with another. He said "I can send you in the right direction." I guess so I would not stay in the store for too long. Oddly the customers who entered before me were not subjected to the same immediate attention. I, still standing in the doorway, explained to the Manager/Owner that I knew exactly what I wanted and where to find it. Given that this is the only actual "art supply store" in the town of Savannah. It is unfortunate that I have to be subjected to this kind of treatment everytime I need some art items. I am NOT a student and am actually an internationally recognized fine artist and designer. Since I am about half a century old as well I would think that by this time I would not have to continue to be treated like some sort of criminal youth. But in the case of Blick art supplies its still 1955. Well here is something for you the Owner/Manager of Blick. I am not going to document in detail each and every time I come to Blick. And every case of discrimination will be logged. I am building a case against this store and when the time is correct all of the collected data will be put forward to the proper authorities and legal entities that deal in these kinds of situations. I usually shop with Blick online and this is the first time I have ever been into one of their stores. We were immediately greeted by one employee and then asked for assistance by another who showed me where the items were that I needed. While shopping he checked on us a few times but there was enough time in between that it was proper and not over bearing. A monster of a store in terms of space and inventory: I used to feel that between Primary Art Supply and SCAD's own Ex Libris book/art supply store that Savannah was very well provided with art supply vendors, but Blick takes it really to the next level. The thing I find most amazing about Blick is the depth and scope of their inventory. In example, Primary always had the Copic line of markers, but mainly sold individually or in small sets whereas Blick has them individually but also in the sets of 36 or even 72, which is very rare to find in any store. They also have almost anything in the way of oil, watercolor, and acrylic paints you might desire and a very comprehensive selection of drawing pens, pencils, and other goodies. I wasn't really in need of paper when I stopped in here so I didn't venture into the paper section but it looked huge, too. The staff was very friendly, prompt, and helpful. In a sense, I regret raving about Blick because they are of course a chain and it's sad to see Primary--which is locally-owned--overshadowed by a chain store. Yet it is what it is: Blick has stepped in and offered the best provisions for artists at SCAD or in Savannah otherwise, and it has to be given ample credit for doing so. read more

I love living near a Dick Blick's. Most communities don't have art supplies stores, and Dick Blick's is exceptional. In Savannah, the benefit of having SCAD students working at the store is a big plus. They are very helpful, knowledgeable and fun to work with. read more

Just visiting Savannah and found Dick Blick, a fantastic store for art supplies . I have visited these stores in the Midwest in the past and also bought supplies on line from them. This store is very well organized with lots of fun quirky gifts for even non artists. The help in this store is wonderful. All knew their stock, what they carried and where it was located. Extremely friendly and willing to help. Staff went above and beyond to point out items. The general manager, Adam was amazing. Not only helping me find items, but also pointing out special deals in my interest area that I had missed. Asked me other items I would be interested in the store carrying for my line of work as an artist. He even took notes! An amazing experience all around. Well worth the trip. read more

My favorite art store, hands down! I'm in here almost every day! The staff is so kind, and the manager is absolutely wonderful. They always take an interest in my current project and really go out of their way to be helpful and polite. I've shopped at another art store downtown only to be treated rather rudely and coldly by staff and management. Blick is a professional art supply store for the entire community, rather than just for the art college, and that's what makes them awesome. Blick honors my educator's discount even though I'm not a "SCAD professor" and they also take responsibility for misplaced discount signs, acknowledging when they've confused the customer about current promotions. This is more than I can say for their downtown competitor! If they would only carry Amsterdam acrylics and Low Cornelle brushes, then I'd never have to visit the overpriced hub of arrogance on MLK. There's a real dick running this blick. I come here all the time, they do have a great variety and selection of supplies. Recently I've been frustrated because the store seems a bit unorganized. Sometimes signs are hanging in the wrong places, expensive papers and boards come pre-mangled, and they run out of stuff. There are a ton of employees so there's always someone who doesn't understand something. But the manager, he's a dick. Let me clarify, I have never been an angry, manager demanding customer at this store. This manager was not being rude in response to me being rude, I haven't tried to provoke him at all. He glared at me like he was disgusted with me just because I had a question about a sale item that was out of stock. He's also passive aggressive. Once I was mistaken about where the line should start, but, instead of telling me where to line up, he just shot me that same glare and asked another customer to come up to his register without saying anything to me. I waited for him to finish the transaction without saying anything. Then when I walked up to pay, he just walked away from the register! I've never been treated that way by a manager anywhere else. read more
