Mel's diner

The bathrooms were so gross, I am worried to see what the kitchen looks like. We left before ordering.

After driving the long interminable hot desert road down US 95, Mel's Diner was a welcomed sight and a nice break from the monotony of driving. It serves the usual diner stuff and found the food to be good and served with good cheer, even when the waitress was busy with a lot of customers. It's a great joint, spartan, but nonetheless, a part of Americana on a lonely two lane road in the middle of nowhere. Watch out for them wild burros running around town.

This place was what you'd expect in a small town. Quaint, easy in and out, hometown food and service. We came into town and our family wanted lunch. This place was open and able to seat us quickly. The menu is simple. The decor older but appropriate for the setting. It is CASH ONLY. The food was great and not a super long wait. The food was cooked perfectly. Fries were perfectly crispy, hotdog huge, coleslaw was tasty!

Mel's diner is this cool little diner located off of the 95 as soon as you pull into Beatty, NV. There isn't a huge selection of restaurants in this town but Mel's is definitely the best. And not only because there isn't much in terms of choices in Beatty. The food really is great and so is the service. The place is very nostalgic with photos of a Nevada era long gone and tons of Americana plastered through out the walls. It also has a restroom accessible from the outside which has always been clean every time we've stopped by. Which is honestly surprising. Most diners/greasy spoons aren't as meticulous with cleanliness. Just a warning: this is a small business so make sure their hours of operation are when you decide to visit. Last time we drove to Beatty we arrived early in the afternoon but forgot to check when they were open and were bummed we had driven 100 miles to see a closed sign. My girlfriend and I agreed that their burger was the best we had ever tried. So if you're in town and visiting the open air museum or the wild burros make sure you stop by and get something to eat.

Mel's receives a five star review for food and nostalgia. An era gone by still surviving in Beatty, NV. This is your old style hearty breakfast spot not meant for the timid. You will get three egg omelettes or huge pancakes. Come with cash in hand (NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED) and a hungry appetite. Be patient and courteous to the two waitresses who work hard to serve everyone. They can get very busy, but the food is worth the wait.

the food was very good for our breakfast. our bill was $20.00 over what it should be and when we questioned the pricing the owner woman start yelling that she is the owner and she can charge what she wants. using the F-bombs over and over with the restaurant full. people were leaving and the owner would not stop. then the husband started in. turns out they double charged one of the breakfast meal and charged for something we never received. Turns out the owner woman was rolling her eyes at us for her own mistake. CS was not available.

Located in the small town of Beatty, Mel's Diner is considered a "local" go to for breakfast. Just off the main interstate this little restaurant has seating both outside and inside for its hungry customers. Mel's offers a good range of food but for this review I'm going to focus on what they offer for breakfast. I ordered the eggs with a side of sausage. Nothing fancy for sure. My eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausage links were okay, but I would have liked to see them actually cooked more. They looked like they had been boiled and then finished on the cook top. The Mel's Mac (ordered by a friend of mine) was decently sized (bigger than what you get at McDonalds) and was okay... all-in-all it's a good amount of food for a small price tag. You won't go hungry, but the food could use more flavor and more fresh ingredients. On the positive side...the wait staff was fast, very attentive, working hard (unlike a lot of lazy staff I've witnessed in today's restaurants) and very sweet. I think this place has a lot of potential, they just need to invest more into the flavor of their food.

Grilled ham and cheese, onion rings.

It was the perfect brunch place to stop on our road trip! Also, the view of donkeys outside while we were eating was a pleasant surprise.

Walking inside the gas station it's sectioned off to the left. They do seem to have a fly issue on the gas station as some had said. Hopefully that Is something they will rectify. However, its hard to find good Indian food these days. Especially in such a remote area such as this, and I found the food here was actually really delightful. Sometimes you have to go to a hole in the wall, that lacks the sparkle and refinement visually to get the flavor you have been searching for. The cashier was polite as he took our order. We got the butter chicken, mango lassi, and a potato stuffed paratha bread. It was perfect to share between two people. The meat was tender and flavorful, and I loved that there were nuts in the sauce and the spices were more complex. I find a lot of Indian places dont add those touches in the states. Rice was fluffy and fragrant, the bread was so delicious! Warm and layered with that soft potatoes filling. It was great to dip into the butter chicken sauce. They also had a side of yogurt and a chutney. The chutney was not my favorite thing in the world, it tasted perfumey. We got the food mild incase our child wanted any, but they do offer spice levels. The mango lassi was divine! Bursting with flavor and not to thick. If flies were not attacking me this would have been 5 stars. I didn't experience not feeling welcome in any way because I am not the same ethnicity as the workers like some had mentioned. I just thought that was important to mention. If you want yummy food and a place to stretch your legs its a great alternative to the less than stellar cuisune you often find on this route to tahoe in the smaller towns.

This place is like that: In addition to the usual roadside gas station, convenience store, there is an Indian restaurant inside that is absolutely terrific! The place is clean, the staff is more than friendly. The menu isn't big, but it has all the typical indian dishes. I had the chicken curry, hot. (The waiter told me it was "Indian hot," not "American hot" but I've had hotter. Pro-Tip #1: When you order, get the 'hot'.) The portions were delicious and huge; despite overeating because it was so tasty, I still took away leftovers. They offer both dine-in and take-away service. But... Pro-Tip #2: If you would like a drink to accompany your meal, get it from the C-Store cooler (and pay for it at the counter) before you get your meal, as drinks aren't on the menu. It's literally in the middle of nowhere: Half-way between Las Vegas and Tonopah avoids the hustle and bustle and bright city lights. But if you're on 95, plan on stopping here for a delicious meal! PS: They also have an "American" menu, so burgers, grilled cheese, etc... are also available. But srsly, get the Indian food! PPS: While you're here you can stock up on the Area-51 Alien accoutrements at reasonable prices, too!

We were staying in the park for two nights so we had a couple of dinners and breakfasts. I tried to be healthy and get the stuffed poblano peppers and those were decent but I wouldn't reccommend them-unless you're vegetarian. The next night I gave up and just went with a bison burger which was solid. For breakfast if you get to the breakfast bar early enough there are fresh mixed berries and plantains which were a unique touch. The prices weren't too bad either. The staff were all very friendly, the meals came out quickly, and the restaurant and Saloon had a rustic decor that went with the locale. Since we weren't traveling with children I preferred the Saloon with the beautiful views. Considering all that has made things difficult lately, tariffs, wars, etc... the fact that you can get a decent meal in a remote location is pretty impressive.

They may be able to get away with this with foreigners who frequent this place, but not Americans. Below is a photo of the "too many beers to mention". Seriously!
