Ate at Mel's dinner for breakfast many times before going hiking to visit the beautiful donkeys in this small town. Mel's has the very best service always courteous and friendly! Food is amazing! I highly recommend. read more

An old diner in the middle of nowhere really.... Driving by, my brother and I thought, wow, that place doesn't even look open and it doesn't look like it would be very good so we went to the Candy and Nut place that we were there for, we shopped and on the way out, we asked people that worked there and they all said it doesn't look like much but is really great inside. So back we went and Yeah, it had quirks. The waitress was super friendly, I am sorry I didn't get her name.. It was small with about 10 tables. The one we sat at was super wobbly and the floor was stained and I thought, well, this is going to be interesting. I liked the deco--old photos of old stars, cars, old coke glasses, very unique and looked it up while we waited for our drinks, its been there for 60 years.... I got a soda and my brother a coffee. He said it was good. I got eggs and hashbrowns and he got the same + bacon. Served on a paper plate (I laugh because we don't use plates at home) but it was good. we saw burros walking by. The bathroom was private (Outside on the side of the building, like a gas station might have) and it was clean... it locked. I did hear a burro walk by hooting, that was, well, a hoot. All in all, the menu looked good--Though I am glad I eat eggs because if I didn't, there would not be much for Vegans... But I would still go back on my next visit to the area. read more

Mel's Diner - Perfectly cooked eggs and hashbrowns - American Near Me - Beatty, Nevada

This is a ma and pa shop in a sweet little town called Beatty. My dad lives here and I went to high school here, so it was my monthly visit. We ordered steak and eggs, Denver omlet, and pancake griddle special. All four of us were satisfied. The food was delicious. My omelet cooked perfectly, my hubbee loved his pancakes and his eggs were cooked perfectly. My dad loved the steak and eggs and the chicken fried steak. We will be back the service was great and the food was too! read more

The breakfast was good. The price was reasonable. The waitress was prompt and friendly. My type of old fashioned dinner. The only real negative is that they use paper plates, but even that was sort of quaint. It's definitely not fancy, but I would go back. read more

Pulled in ten minutes prior to close but was told they were closing. Pretty lame, I was hungry. Food looks good though. Will try again in the future and revise review pending experience read more

The bathrooms were so gross, I am worried to see what the kitchen looks like. We left before ordering. read more

After driving the long interminable hot desert road down US 95, Mel's Diner was a welcomed sight and a nice break from the monotony of driving. It serves the usual diner stuff and found the food to be good and served with good cheer, even when the waitress was busy with a lot of customers. It's a great joint, spartan, but nonetheless, a part of Americana on a lonely two lane road in the middle of nowhere. Watch out for them wild burros running around town. read more

This place was what you'd expect in a small town. Quaint, easy in and out, hometown food and service. We came into town and our family wanted lunch. This place was open and able to seat us quickly. The menu is simple. The decor older but appropriate for the setting. It is CASH ONLY. The food was great and not a super long wait. The food was cooked perfectly. Fries were perfectly crispy, hotdog huge, coleslaw was tasty! read more

Mel's Diner has the best burgers! Had a jalapeno burger with pepper jack cheese. The service was great! We got there close to closing time, but was no problem. We had a great view of the donkeys who stop traffic out front! Been here before, and will return the next time we are in Beatty!! read more

Our order consisted of a French dip w/homemade potato salad and hamburger w/fries. All the food was excellent. Service was excellent. Ambiance was historical like a hometown cafe. We will eat here again if we are in the area. We enjoyed watching the free range burros that were across from the cafe. The town of Beatty looks like a fun place to visit. read more

Mel's diner is this cool little diner located off of the 95 as soon as you pull into Beatty, NV. There isn't a huge selection of restaurants in this town but Mel's is definitely the best. And not only because there isn't much in terms of choices in Beatty. The food really is great and so is the service. The place is very nostalgic with photos of a Nevada era long gone and tons of Americana plastered through out the walls. It also has a restroom accessible from the outside which has always been clean every time we've stopped by. Which is honestly surprising. Most diners/greasy spoons aren't as meticulous with cleanliness. Just a warning: this is a small business so make sure their hours of operation are when you decide to visit. Last time we drove to Beatty we arrived early in the afternoon but forgot to check when they were open and were bummed we had driven 100 miles to see a closed sign. My girlfriend and I agreed that their burger was the best we had ever tried. So if you're in town and visiting the open air museum or the wild burros make sure you stop by and get something to eat. read more

Mel's receives a five star review for food and nostalgia. An era gone by still surviving in Beatty, NV. This is your old style hearty breakfast spot not meant for the timid. You will get three egg omelettes or huge pancakes. Come with cash in hand (NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED) and a hungry appetite. Be patient and courteous to the two waitresses who work hard to serve everyone. They can get very busy, but the food is worth the wait. read more

Great service and excellent breakfast in this charming little diner in Beatty, NV. Easy to miss it off 95 just off the main drag, but worth finding! Cash only! Low prices by the way and coffee was delicious! read more

Stopped in for a delicious breakfast. Pancakes are big and fluffy, veggie omelet had a good mix of vegetables and was perfectly cooked. Waitress was nice and efficient and did came out quickly. Would eat here again. Note they are closed on Mondays and only take cash. read more

I was looking forward to grabbing breakfast here before a long drive through Death Valley with my mom. We walked in with surgical masks and the guy at the register (the owner?) told us, "No masks ladies. This is the *real* world!" Guess what? I live in the real world and just spent the last two years fight cancer and have my third surgery coming up in a few weeks so F@*k YOU. We didn't eat there. read more

I have to say this is the first time I haven't left a tip in all my 62 years. The lady that works the breakfast in the morning at Mel's Has to be the rudest person on the planet. we got to go order first off and they charge you for every Styrofoam $.75 so she puts things one thing in each Styrofoam so she can charge you more. I asked her for strawberry jelly and you would think I was asking for $1 million. She slammed the toast on the bar and change the jelly out very rudely. which should've cost me $32 cost me 42.00 I recommend the Rebel gas station. I know that sounds funny but they have really good French toast, croissants biscuits, and gravy and gravy.. i'm literally telling it like it is. and the worst part is I gave her another chance because the last time we were here she was the same way. I will not be returning 2 strikes is enough. read more

Call me a Boomer, but this roadside cafe is right up my alley; so to speak. The kind of restaurant that kept America going in the early days of travel. Having been born and raised in the desert, I stopped at a lot of these in my younger days. Again, as I stated in my review of a local hotel, most of the bad reviews are from younger folks that expect Beverly Hills amenities while visiting the sparsely populated desert. Its just not going to happen. Because of its location, many miles from any city, they just don't have the resources to pamper young city folks that are used to 5 star service. I make it my point to stop at roadside cafes when I travel. And, I am never disappointed. These are families pouring their heart and soul into a small business to keep travelers fed. Anyone expecting more should go back to Los Angeles and order a kale burger and frappe for breakfast. read more

the food was very good for our breakfast. our bill was $20.00 over what it should be and when we questioned the pricing the owner woman start yelling that she is the owner and she can charge what she wants. using the F-bombs over and over with the restaurant full. people were leaving and the owner would not stop. then the husband started in. turns out they double charged one of the breakfast meal and charged for something we never received. Turns out the owner woman was rolling her eyes at us for her own mistake. CS was not available. read more

Mel's Diner - The owner of Mel's Diner - American Near Me - Beatty, Nevada

Located in the small town of Beatty, Mel's Diner is considered a "local" go to for breakfast. Just off the main interstate this little restaurant has seating both outside and inside for its hungry customers. Mel's offers a good range of food but for this review I'm going to focus on what they offer for breakfast. I ordered the eggs with a side of sausage. Nothing fancy for sure. My eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausage links were okay, but I would have liked to see them actually cooked more. They looked like they had been boiled and then finished on the cook top. The Mel's Mac (ordered by a friend of mine) was decently sized (bigger than what you get at McDonalds) and was okay... all-in-all it's a good amount of food for a small price tag. You won't go hungry, but the food could use more flavor and more fresh ingredients. On the positive side...the wait staff was fast, very attentive, working hard (unlike a lot of lazy staff I've witnessed in today's restaurants) and very sweet. I think this place has a lot of potential, they just need to invest more into the flavor of their food. read more

Don't let the exterior fool you. This is the right choice. Home style food done right. Onion rings with a perfectly crisp batter, grilled ham and cheese with crunchy bread, not soggy. Great burgers. Clean, quaint interior. Nothing fancy, just good food. read more

Delicious food! Small spot that only accepts cash but good food and fair pricing. Clean nice and friendly staff. Love this little gem in Beatty perfect breakfast and lunch spot before heading into Death Valley NP read more

The person at the counter was very rude to my friend, throwing the menu at her and all but ignoring her. However, she made direct eye contact with and greeted the people behind my friend. Whether it's because my friend wore a mask, is Black or because the counter person was overwhelmed, we don't know. We only know that we left. Not the restaurant's fault, but other customers also gave my friend the side-eye. read more

Be sure to eat here when you're in town or passing through! Best burger and club sandwich we've had. The burger was the perfect size, thickness, and flavor. The Club was piled high and the perfect combo of meat, bread, bacon, yum. The sign is old, and almost looks defunct, but it isn't! So keep your eye out when you enter town, it's right across the street from the Death Valley Inn and Rv. We sat by the window and watched the 'wild' burros wander into town. You're going to love it. read more

We stopped her on our way home and the food was very so so except for the rye toast which was excellent. What bothered us both was that the restrooms were just awful. The lock on the men's room door was broken and both rooms were very dirty. I don't know how they got a four star rating. read more

We have been by here many times going to Carson City. We stopped today for a BLT, burger and fries. Everything tasted great. Better than a casino in carson. Great service. Cute little place. read more

The waitress was very rude. The hashbrowns came out crispy on the outside and soggy in the middle. Tiny little diner in a tiny little Western town on the boundary of Death Valley. Maybe 10 tables inside and a few more outside, counter setting also. One waitress working her legs off, the other one, not so much. Food: Great! Good breakfast choices, nothing wrong with this place. Locals and tourists alike were here on a Sunday morning, probably the best breakfast place in town! NOTE: CASH ONLY!!!! read more

A great breakfast in Beatty, Nv. Fluffy has browns, great ham steak and eggs - can't beat the price ! The service was very amiable and was done by only one very efficient waitress. So, keep small town diners alive by visiting Mel's Diner the next time you're in Beatty Nevada ! read more

Day one: I ordered the Mel Mac...a rip off of an egg McMuffin and the waitress came back to tell me Mel isn't making those today. Not that they are out of English muffins...no simply he just isn't making them today. I'm thinking Mel wanted me to order something more expensive!?!! I did. Day Two: I walk in at 6:55, thirty minutes later than day one, and a closed sign is on the doors. I walk in anyway as Mel is sitting and drinking coffee at the bar. Me "Are you open?" Mel "dont you see the signs!" Me "but you were open yesterday at 6?" Mel "We don't open until 7, do you see a waitress...I dont have one!". Remember not it's 6:55, maybe a come on in have a cup of coffee until the waitress gets here would have been approriate or God forbid Mel walk a plate of food 10 feet to a table. This place is cash only and this makes me flash to an episode of Ozarks, one of Marty's front businesses. As a foodie...I can believe I'm saying this, but just go to Denny's, Mel's only competition in Beatty. read more

Good food, huge portions. Reasonable. Folks working there were nice. Coffee kept flowing. Ordered the 16 oz. ham steak with eggs, biscuits and gravy, etc. $11 or so. It was massive; the ham was a huge full slab off of a bone-in roast. Eggs were perfect. Waitress left us a pitcher of hot coffee. Everything was good. This place is a gem for Western NV / the Death Valley area. If you like getting an early start, showing up for breakfast at Mels at 6 AM is great option. We were warmed up and back on the road by 7ish. I only wish Mel's was open later, for dinner... ...please? read more

I was definitely apprehensive about eating here because of the poor ratings BUT the only thing wrong was the that it's cash only and there's signs everywhere stating that. Listen to the locals and you will hear that Mel's is the place to go. Wonderful customer service and they make you feel like home. Small towns are so welcoming to the tourists. Now onto the food I got the Ortega and Pepper Jack Omelette and it was freaking deliciousness. Simple, yummy, and overall great home cooking. Definitely will be back! read more

In a little town called Beatty that's between Las Vegas and Death Valley. It's not much from the outside (or the inside) but you get huge portions of diner-style food. My husband and I stopped here on our way back from visiting the Rhyolite Ghost Town and filled up on burgers, fries and chili. Now this is not gourmet cuisine or anything, but it is what it is, greasy spoon food! The only downfall is that the coffee was terrible, everything else was tasty! read more

It was the perfect brunch place to stop on our road trip! Also, the view of donkeys outside while we were eating was a pleasant surprise.

There are not many restaurants in Beatty, NV. I thought the food was good and the service was the same. It is home style dinner in this tiny city.
