Both the saloon and Toll Road Restaurant share the same menu and kitchen. Very narrow menu with just a handful of dishes and burgers. Service was good and friendly. They can help answer your tourist questions. Rating 4.5 on Google. 3.4 on Yelp. Arugula and Date Salad ($14.20 + $5 Chicken) was better than expected. Pathetic. We were "trapped" here for six days while on a photo workshop. There is no other place to eat and the other restaurant, the Saloon, is owned by the same people. Same kitchen. Same menu. There was a fundamental problem with every meal except one: burned hamburgers (multiple times), served someone else's meal, hot meal served cold, etc. The nasty woman who seated people in the front of the place was an added nice touch. (barf) And -- the "concessionaire," Powdr," prohibits cooking in rooms -- $250 fine. Great way to steer traffic to your nasty restaurants. (I'll be performing due diligence before future trips and be certain to avoid any establishments owned or managed by Powdr, https://www.powdr.com/.) Side note: The employees eat for free here and are given employer-paid housing. Many are *totally* unqualified and abrasive -- should never be dealing with the public. We had dinner and tried the salmon with wild rice it was very good. The went for breakfast which is a Buffett and that too was a good choice of things and we'll stocked along with coffee and juice. Today we had lunch and had a cheeseburger with a side salad. Both were very good, I appreciate the salad was not just yucky iceberg lettuce it was a spring mix and was very tasty. Decided to stop here for lunch amid our jeep exploration day at the park. Such a pleasant surprise. Service was super friendly, helpful, responsive, and attentive. The dining room is cute, decorated as you would expect for the location and history. The food was way better than we expected. BBQ chicken pizza amply sized and delicious, chicken club wrap yummy and the onion ring upgrade was super generous - our party of 4 could not finish them all, elk chili was flavorful and the bowl size was plenty for a meal (comes also with cornbread), and the salad was fresh. The salad was fresh, had dried Africa arts, date stuffed with blue cheese, and the walnuts were so fresh and crunchy. Breakfast: All you can eat buffet breakfast was typical but it tasted homemade. If you've ever been to Death Valley, dining options are limited. With that said, I enjoyed my meals here. We stayed a couple nights here and had breakfast and a couple of dinners. For breakfast, it's a buffet with corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage both turkey and pork, french toast, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, juices and fresh fruit. I thought it was good. For dinner, I had their burger and fish and chips. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected a frozen patty basic burger but the patty was handformed, thick and juicy. Let's be clear: there are not a lot of choice when it comes to dining in Death Valley. In Stovepipe Wells (where we were staying) there's The Toll Road. There is food available at the Inn at Furnace Creek and at the Ranch in Furnace Creek. Alternatively, you can head to Beatty, NV, about a 30-45 minute drive depending on where in Death Valley you are staying. In my opinion, the Toll Road is the best of what is available without leaving the park. The menu is diverse enough to satisfy most tastes. Prices are not outrageous considering that you are in the middle of nowhere. We had 3 dinners at the Toll Road, and every staff person we interacted with was smiling and pleasant. If you were interested in conversation, they were happy to converse. If you wanted to be left alone, they would leave you alone. Service was efficient and quick. Coffee refills were never more than a glance away. We had to wait to be seated only once, and the wait was only about ten minutes. I'm sure that when things are busier (we visited right after the Christmas/New Year holiday and the park was pretty empty) you might have to wait more often to get seated. So far as the food is concerned, e did burgers, fish & chips, soup, salad, and pizza. All were fine. In fact, I'd say the fries were exceptional. Is the Toll Road on track for a Michelin star? No. But the food is better than you would expect for a restaurant that has a captive audience. If you are staying in Stovepipe Wells, the Toll House is a no-brainer. If you're staying in Furnace Creek, do yourself a favor and check out the Toll House. I'm sure you'll prefer it to the choices in Furnace Creek. read more

Pretty solid place for breakfast at death valley national park. They have a breakfast buffet for around 14 bucks. They have a large feature of breakfast items such as bacon, turkey sausage, sausages, corned beef hash, hash browns biscuits and gravy and many other's that make it worth it. This was one of three restaurants in the national park. We had a casual dinner here and also at the Tavern next door or maybe it was the other way around. Anyway, the two venues are connected, and they use the same menu. Located in the little desert oasis of Stovepipe Wells within the park the meals are good, and the prices are reasonable. This night I had the Elk chili with corn bread. It was hardy and delicious. I could justify $15. Hubs had, for the second time, the Piled High turkey sandwich, $12.95, which was delicious again. The Alaskan Amber was light and refreshing, $7. We are so glad we noticed this area up the road as we stood on the Mesquite sand dunes. We would have paid twice as much at the buffet and dinner at the two hotels in Furnace Creek. read more

Had the breakfast buffet here one day. Food was well prepared, nicely presented and surprisingly hot for a buffet presentation. Staff was very friendly, greeted entering guests and then helped orient you to the buffet and seating. Nice variety of foods offered. I was there at an off time, so there was plenty of seating, but I imagine it gets packed at peak times. Still, a fast, tasty option if you just want to eat and hit the park. This review is inflated by the fact that dining options are very limited in Death Valley. On a hot day, it is wonderful to walk into an establishment and be served ice cold water. The service is friendly though understandably short of staff; I'm assuming we came at a time when they didn't expect so many simultaneous visitors. Upon entering, either sit in the restaurant or the saloon. We had fast service in the saloon. Although the prices are a little more than what I would've liked for the quality of food, once again this is Death Valley, and I definitely enjoyed this meal enough. I have seen some negative reviews of this place but I feel when you leave reviews you have to take into consideration where you are and be realistic about the amenities and experience. No this isn't a five star restaurant nor somewhere one would go out of the way to eat at. This is the only restaurant on these grounds and with that the food is good and staff are extremely hospitable and friendly. Prices are very reasonable especially when one considers this is only eating option so they could gouge and get away with it. There are enough different food options to satisfy most people including a vegan meatball sandwich and breakfast buffet which was only. $13.99. Great value for food and service was very prompt. Again people, you can't review every place with the same eyes. Trust me I love a nice 3 star Michelin restaurant from time to time and am definitely a foodie who likes great food. Perhaps I got unlucky but my food here was very subpar. My party of 3 stayed at Stovepipe Wells for a night and decided to dine here as it was the only restaurant in the area. We came on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so perhaps it was extra busy due to folks traveling for the holidays. We put our name down for dine in around 5:50 pm and didn't get seated until over an hour later at 7. Apparently they only had two cooks working that day, and one of them was on a break, so there was a huge backlog of orders for the kitchen and they didn't seat anyone for at least 30 minutes to let the kitchen catch up. No problem. We weren't too hungry anyways, so we waited patiently at the tables outside and used the satellite wifi from the hotel lobby. Finally we got seated. The menu is very simple - there are a few burgers and sandwiches, a pasta dish, steak, and some appetizers like wings and tortilla soup. My mom and I both went with the grilled flat iron ($24.50). I asked for mine rare and hers medium well. We finally got our food at 7:40 and unfortunately everything was a disappointment. My rare steak was cooked medium well or well (see picture of the cross cut), the broccolini was overly salty, and the larger potato chunks weren't fully cooked. The steak was also much smaller than I was expecting it to be too. I don't mind the slow seating and service, as I understand they had some limitations in the kitchen, but I can't let the poor food quality slide. My friend ordered the black bean burger with onion rings ($15.95 + $2 to sub in onion rings) and said his burger was really good, so in retrospect I think we should've gone with the burgers here. read more

A little restaurant right on the main road in Death Valley when you're driving through Stovepipe. We only came for breakfast, which is a basic buffet - bacon, eggs, French toast, cereal, etc. The food is okay - nothing to write home about, but it will fill you up for the day ahead. I was surprised by how cheap it was, though. It was only like $9/person, which taking into account the restaurant is right in the middle of Death Valley where there aren't many services, the price is not bad at all. Staff are were beyond friendly and kind. Such a pleasant experience. They also have Wi-Fi here, just ask for the password. There was even wifi that we used to plan part of our trails and trip at Death Valley since there is no reception in the park itself. The service was great although there were a good amount of people here and few waiters. The food was decent, but my veggie burger broke apart and had a bit too much sauce in it. We walked in and were told there was an hour plus wait, but when I took a peek at the dining area, there were tons of tables open. Must be short staffed, I guess. Anyhoo, we were seated over an hour later (hey! at least the host was good at his time approximations). I was pretty full from gorging on the queso next door at Badwater Saloon, so I just ordered the Ancho tortilla soup and my bf ordered the Chuckwagon steak (with beans and more beans). Both were pretty darn horrendous. I took two sips of my soup and just couldn't muster the desire to keep going. My bf's steak was not much better. We didn't expect a lot since we were in Death Valley and there isn't much around, but this was pretty atrocious. Service was really slow, and our server really didn't seem like he was very into his job.
