Cigarette smoking in the front at the bar. We sat in the back at some tables and chairs that had seen better days. Anything fried you could want. Although I did have a pretty good wedge salad. But there's not a lot of choices in Beatty for places to eat. Buy food at a grocery store before you get to town and cook at home. read more

Great food at good prices. Very friendly people there too. Close to hotel within walking distance.

Loved the ambiance. Food and service were great. The people were exceptional. We'll be back!!!

The food was delicious and at a great price!! The drinks were also good and priced just right! The staff was very accommodating and friendly! read more

Warning: it is 21+ and people smoke inside. There is a non-smoking room in the back though. My friend and I came here after a long day of driving and hiking in Death Valley and it hit the spot! The locals were all very friendly and welcomed us. The food was cooked to order so it was hot and crispy. We devoured the garlic fries and I wish I could eat them daily. The fried cheesecake was also amazing (although very dense and heavy - could not finish it in one sitting)! Would definitely recommend this place if you're in town! read more

If it were closed on a Sunday, I'd forgive. But to not exist? I went up and down this podunk town looking for this special 8pm and beyond food and drink establishment to no avail. I saw a decaying Lions location but not VFW. Update this Yelp listing or get an exterior sign please Beatty visitors. read more

The Beatty VFW came recommended by our hotel, at first we thought this is your #1 pick but we looked up them up saw the simple menu options, reviews, pictures and decided what the heck let's head on over. We walked in to be immediately greeted by the friendly bartender who said pull up a seat, we let her know we would like to grab a bite to eat. She said we could eat at the bar or there were a couple of tables below - we opted to find our way in the lower area. She gave us menus, letting us know that we would order dinner through her and then pick up our dinners when our name was called at the window - easy enough. We looked over the 'Chow' aka menu with the special of the night being Fish & Chips deciding on the Special of course for the hubby, I couldn't resist the Shrimp Scampi and we both ordered their amazing Wedge salads - BTW their croutons and bread made in house is TO DIE FOR!! We even ordered the next night to-go after a longgg hiking day in Death Valley grabbing the VFW Honey Pot pizza, wings and garlic parmesan bread - yummmyyy!! Inexpensive quality food, full bar & sodas, simple place but homey with a ton of history, GREAT people and friendly service. Keep in mind this establishment is 21 and over but you can ALWAYS order food to go anddd it's worth it! read more

The food was OK, staff was friendly and helpful. If you don't smoke, being inside is overwhelming.

I have never eaten at a VFW before and it was so nice and welcoming and just felt great. We looked at all the options in the area and honestly the reviews really did get our attention. Then we asked the bartender at our hotel and he highly recommended the VFW and their steak sandwich. He said just go in and remember to sign the book. We did. We had a couple of beers and a couple of white wines. (Great prices after being in Vegas for a few days!!!) We had the Friday Fish and Chips and a burger as well as the wedge sandwich. Not only price performers but the food was really good. Staff is great and of course supporting our Vets is never a bad thing. Would go again and again, which many locals do. read more

Walked in and was greeted by a rowdy bunch of people. Everyone was chatty and welcoming. Do note that people smoke at the bar, but there is seating further away if that's bothersome. The food was great and cooked well! I enjoyed my burger and onion rings. The prices were fair. read more

We waited a hour and half to get our food. When asked they said 5 more minutes but that did not happen. Others who showed up after us got their food. Poor review due to the wait. Fries were dripping with oil. Onion rings were over cooked. read more

So much fun! Good, inexpensive food. I had a steak dinner for $18 and beers were $4.50. You sit in the back room unless you're a smoker. If so, a great bar in front with local flavor. read more

First impression, this is a stinky bar. Thankfully we were told in advance that they have a non-smoking room. We ordered at the bar in the smoking room and the food was delivered to the non smoking room. Who knew there were still smoking restaurants out there... it didn't stop us. VFW had come highly recommended from locals. The jalapeños were delicious, they were a little greasy & lacked heat- but still, very tasty. The burger was excellent. Onion rings, perfectly fried in a fresh batter. The French dip did not come with an au jus, so that was kinda disappointing. If you are okay with walking thru a smoky bar for delicious food, this is your spot. It's also one of the only local places open on Mondays. So plan accordingly. read more

I've been coming to this place every time I'm in Beatty for work. Since the pandemic, they've opened up more seating in the back which is great since it's mostly crowded. They have cheap beer and pretty delicious food. Mostly burgers and deep fried things, but everything Ive had has been great. Most recently I ordered the chicken tenders and I should have split them. Those two tenders were maybe 10 inches long. Definitely couldn't eat them by myself. read more

Lively atmosphere with friendly locals. Shrimp scampi the very best I've ever had and I order it a lot everywhere I go.

The best food we ate in the Death Valley area! We stopped in for dinner around 5:00 on a Sunday and were greeted warmly. The bar was full so we grabbed a high top table around the perimeter. The building itself looked like it had seen better days, but the restaurant and the bathroom were clean. It was pretty chilly so we did keep our coats on while we ate. We each got a beer, and had wings, a fried shrimp basket and a steak sandwich for which the total was $37, which I felt was very fair. Everything was great except my husband said his steak sandwich was "just ok". This place may not be great for groups as besides the bar and two person high tops, there is only one big table to sit at. Also, be aware smoking is allowed. Overall, I recommend! read more

We stop here to eat once or twice a year when we drive to Tahoe and Reno. They have my husbands favorite Hamburger and I love the Caesar salad with sirloin steak. We get a kick out of the locals at the bar. One of them was telling a local woman as she was picking up her dinner to go that she should cook and not eat take out. She said " until you're sleeping in my bed and paying my bills , you don't tell me I need to cook!". One of the funniest things I ever heard. read more

This is a beautiful and delightful post! The dinner was excellent, the atmosphere is inviting and the history on the walls was very educational. Thank you to Commander Dan Sanders for running this hidden little gem!!!! read more

Okay... who would have thought to pop into the VFW for a bite to eat? Well, thanks to Yelp and the fact that the "other place" I had been recommended to eat at was too busy to take my order, I was able to come on in and partake at this Beatty, NV hidden treasure. Walking in I was immediately welcomed by the waitress who was up to her eyeballs in customers and orders. It was obvious she ran a tight ship, and knew how to keep it running smooth. She informed me that they were at capacity, but as luck would have it, I had already called in my order. I had a few minutes to wait and I spent the time perusing the place... a local hangout where everyone knows your name. I am sure that you are only a stranger once in this place. Once I had my dinner and made it back to my room I was pleasantly surprised with the oversized serving of French Dip and Onion rings. The rings were a bit salty, but the flavoring allowed for eating them solo... no need for ketchup or other dipping sauce with these babies! The French dip itself had an abundance of meat, cheese, peppers and onions all cooked to perfection. The au juice was beautifully flavored and they gave more than enough in the order. It's definitely a place I would go back to. Next time I hope to saddle up into a chair and sip on a soda as I chat away with some locals. I am sure this place has some great stories for those who take the time to visit! Well worth it on your trip through Beatty, NV! read more

Food was good, nothing special and definitely extremely greasy. Service was kind and even gave us an extra appetizer for waiting longer than expected. Nice atmosphere. read more

What a great find in Beatty! Drink selections (beer, liquor): good Food choices (Fish & Chips and Mussels): great The company (Sue, Julia, James, Sherri & others): priceless! Not the fanciest of places, but the room is full of history, including some of the patrons. Besides, great food, drink, & conversation really don't get better than this. If we weren't heading out to a flight, we'd spent the rest of the evening there! read more

The dining area isn't large, but every one is super friendly as everyone wedges themselves into every available seat to be found. Simply put, the food here is AMAZING!!! And you absolutely can't beat the price of a beer! Added to that you get to share your meal with some of Americans finest and bravest. Doesn't get much better than that! Membership isn't necessary to enjoy a meal here, and we were never made to feel "weird" or "unwelcome" as non Vets or outsiders. We really enjoyed our experience here and highly recommend you stop on by on your next trip to town! As a side note, thank you all for your service. read more

Excellent food, friendly greetings, nice price. About what I expect from some of the better VFW places. Front room was a bit smokey but par for the course for any VFW. read more

This is a fun place with great food and service The kitchen is small so expect a wait. The mussels with bread and their special sauce are amazing. Good burgers. Sara is great too. A unique and special place in the middle of the desert. read more

One of the few good places in Beatty. It is non-profit to support veterans. So everything feels like a club with veteran memberships. So the environment may not be the liveliest but the food is very good. Portions are huge. Too many french fries and onion rings in fact. None of us could finish our food. read more

There are only a few places to eat out here in Beatty. My family decided to come here after reading the good reviews. Kids are NOT allowed (only 21 and over), which we didn't realize until we got to the front door. So, we ordered food to go (took about 20" for our family of 5), and it was pretty good. My kids enjoyed their chicken and onion rings, and I liked my shrimp scampi. My hubby thought his steak sandwich was meh. The people were friendly, though, so that counts:) read more

Great place to eat! Hand breaded prawns, onion rings, excellent fries. Being a VFW we weren't sure we could go in but they welcomed us. Tommy was cooking and he is an excellent cook I highly recommend this place if you find yourself in Beatty read more

While staying in Beatty to spend some time in Timbisha (aka Death Valley), we decided to support the VFW and order out at this place. While waiting for the order, we were inundated with the local's smoking and their loud drinking presence. Lovely. Folks can clearly do what they want to do, but what about our lungs and what about hospitality? Not to be found here. After waiting for over 40 minutes for an order of 3 veggie burgers, a bacon cheeseburger and a regular burger, we came back to our motel to discover not only that all the burgers were meat burgers but that the burgers themselves couldn't be fed to our worst enemies. Also, those were hands down the worst onion rings (horrible batter and over fried) and french fries (what was that batter used over the potatoes, and why do fries need a batter over them?) we have ever had. What a disappointment. Will never return and advise others not to patronize this establishment if edible food is your goal. read more

Excellent food and beverages...kitchen manager cooks like a world renown chef! Bar management is top of the line, you would be missing out to visit beatty and not stop here for a meal or a boiler maker. I will be back for more in 2 weeks..I can't get enough. I just can't compliment this place enough :) read more

Had a great time here with Aussie friends while on a Death Valley foray. Tomato soup homemade, perfect grilled cheese sandwiches and authentic fajitas and four beers for a total of 46.00. We sat back by the kitchen and enjoyed watching Monzo cook. It was fun! Don't go if cigar smoke bothers you. Some cigs in there too. Had to shower when got back but this is a true locals place and fun. read more

Best food in town. !!! Tommy is a great cook . I recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere to eat .

We come here for Tommy, he is a very good cook, all the specials are very tasty and the pizza is wonderful

We were in town for a few days to enjoy Death Valley. After a long day in the park, I thought I'd check to see if the VFW serves take out, which they do. Ordered two hamburgers with fries and the staff said it would be ready in 10 minutes. We were very pleasantly surprised with not only how quick they were but the food was very good and hot. The beer batter fries were delightful. Only downside, the staff was t very friendly. read more

Saw the reviews but still wasn't sure whether I would like it. But we want anyway and I'm so glad we did! What a fun place and the patrons were so nice and friendly especially Russ (Iran vet) and his wife. They made us feel so comfortable and at ease considering we're not vets and never been to a VFW. In terms of food, our orders were excellent. My hubby ordered the meatloaf special and I ordered the mussels. What a treat and a surprise! Both were amazing and will order it again if we come by here again. This place is a great find! BTW, try the fried Oreos - it's the bomb! read more

What a great find in such a small town. The people were so friendly and the food was great and abundant. We'll stop here again.

We were just staying the night so decided to order takeout. My husband said his burger and onion rings were good.
