We love the pizza at Mellow Mushroom - The Durham location has always been great, both service and food. Unfortunately the Wake Forest location's service has been nothing short of awful. After waiting over 10 minutes after being seated at our most recent visit, a server still had not come by to greet us or bring water or utensils. Multiple servers walked by us during the 10 minutes+ and never greeted us or asked for our patience. It was not overly busy either. We finally gave up and walked out and went to a different restaurant. This was not our first poor service experience at this location. Last month, we placed a to go order over the phone. They asked that we give them 15 minutes to make the food. We arrived after 20 minutes, went to the take out register to pay and pick up our meal. When we arrived, they realized they had not even started our order yet, and we waited for another 15 minutes with our children. When the order was finally finished, it was incorrect for which they apologized. At this point we were sick of waiting and just took the incorrect order home. We have a gift card for a free pizza from the restaurant's error from last month, but after yet another unacceptable service experience, we will absolutely not be back. I wish I could give this location zero stars. DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION. read more

Pizza here is really good. They have such interesting pizza choices, and I have yet to be disappointed! The holy shiitake pie is my personal favorite. Their decor is the best thing ever, very groovy!! And their takeout service is really good too. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is I had an awful margarita here. This Mellow Mushroom was FANTASTIC!!!!We arrived with 38 people after a hockey game and were not only WELCOMED with that many people, we were seated within 5-10 minutes. The wait staff, Jillian and Ryan, were 2 of the best waiters we have ever had!!! They handled 10 separate families spread around the entire outside patio and were simply amazing!!! read more

Great pizza. Friendly service. Clean and a ton of TVs. I wouldn't recommend there marinara dipping sauce but other than that Fantastic.

The Calzones are great, not many mortals can eat one in one sitting. To be honest I'm not sure about the rest.

Pretty good food for a chain. Nice beer selection, even though it isn't as impressive as it might seem if you really look at it (just because its a micro brew and has a funky pull doesn't mean its good). Neither food nor beer is cheap, but not overly expensive. Servers are great. However, beware of the Wake Forest children of the corn. Apparently the local cool parents think the thing to do is come here with their kids and let them run all over the place. Somehow a family of four can end up claiming 5 tables and a glider on the patio because the 2 kids need to spread out. Even better is when hot mom and hip dad belly up to the bar with their young children and occupy "grown folk" spots with their little ankle biters. YEAH YUPPIES!! Pros: -The pizza is amazing! the flavor is wonderful (granted I only get cheese pizza) and the crust is so good! -once you order, your food comes out in a pretty decent amount of time Cons: -lately I have noticed a lot of kids here. I mean, it's normal to see kids at a restaurant but they always seem to be running around the place -the prices seem to have gone up. It is a little pricey but we live in a farming area so going to Wake Forest for a date night, we're ok with spending a little extra and Mellow is one of the best places in WF (they're aren't many good options) -The pizza has been a little more greasy the last few visits but I suggest soaking it up with some napkins and chow down. I mean, people don't actually expect pizza to be healthy do they? read more

Me and my sister stop here often. She is a vegetarian so she gets a certain pizza that she loves with ranch dip. I always like the buffalo hot pizza (yum). The service has always been good. I'm never blown away so only make it out maybe 2-3 times a year. My family loves it and will do pick ups for birthday dinner. We have had one issue with the food we picked up. It would have been nice had they offered to drop off the correct food as we live in WF but they didn't seem to care at all. Since this isn't a regular issue I won't give 3 stars but we were all quite disappointed. (This happened about a year ago). read more

We ate here last night and ate outside. Our son had a artichoke and imitation cheese pizza. He began feeling bad after we returned home and has been sick ever since. We hope it wasn't the pizza that made him sick. Also, the tables outside were filthy!! They were coated in a thick layer of dust and dirt. Our waitress explained that it was caused by construction in the area, but I would think they would clean the tables well before seating someone at them. We had to ask someone to clean it and they did a poor job of cleaning it at that. Everyone else's meal was really good and we enjoyed our evening there. read more

Not sure why this place is so popular. I've tried some of their special pizzas, some of them are just totally bizarre (like the time I had the caesar salad pizza, it literally was just salad dumped on top of a pizza dough, just terrible) to ones that are actually pretty interesting (first time I had the loaded potato skin pizza, really enjoyed that one) but the pizza quality is so inconsistent. Mostly I really hate how burned they often are on the bottom, have been told I have to ASK if I don't want it burnt (how about just NOT burning them being the DEFAULT way of preparing a pizza?!) It's one thing if you have a very thick pizza and are doing them in a brick oven, but there just doesn't seem any reason that these pizzas should be so black on the bottom that it ruins the flavor. Likewise the baked potato pizza I got a second time was not nearly as good as the first time, the potatoes not being soft and not enough toppings to really get the flavor. Service is often routinely VERY slow as well. Overall, one of my least favorite pizza places to eat. read more
