I recently had the pleasure of attending the summer sample sale of Melissa Shoes, located on west 27th street in their showroom - suite 702.
I went there, not really knowing what to expect, but having heard rave reviews of the collaboration of the designers at Melissa Shoes and Vivienne Westwood, I was really excited.
The sample sale space was a bit smaller than expected and was very crowded (I did go on the Friday evening of the sale).
The plus was that the prices on a number of the shoes and flats had come down to $20/pair from whatever price they had been at and the accessories and bags started at $30.
I tried on a number of the closed toe-flats and sandals. I found that the sizes tended to run small, so I picked a size 9 in the sandals (by Melissa) and a size 10 in the closed toe Vivienne Westwood gladiator shoes. Both shoes ran me $20/ pair.
I also considered getting a handbag for $30, but they were out of the handbag in black, so I decided against that.
The fact that the shoes are plastic does take a bit of getting used to (and my feet feel it!), but I like the fact that the shoes are eco-friendly recycled plastic.
I will report back on how they stand up the the wear and tear of Manhattan! read more
