I met with Dr. Melden after waiting about three weeks for an appointment, which was reasonable. Parking was easy, which is always a plus. Before my visit, I read several reviews mentioning concerns about his bedside manner. However, my experience was different. I found him to be very straightforward, no-nonsense, and focused. While some might interpret that as lacking warmth, I personally felt that he was genuinely trying to help and was very attentive during the appointment. In my case, it turned out that I needed more of a therapist rather than a psychologist, so it wasn't the right fit for my situation. That said, I would have continued seeing him otherwise. Overall, I found Dr. Melden to be professional, direct, and engaged. If you're looking for someone who is clear and to the point, he may be a good fit for you. read more

My son experienced his first residential treatment at Crownview. He was newly diagnosed & we have never been down this road before or had any experience. We put our trust & safety in Dr Melden, his treating psychiatrist. My son was told "why don't you just one off yourself" while in psychosis dealing with suicidal ideation by Dr Melden. My son told us this & we had an immediate meeting regarding this & that was a challenge since Dr Melden is one of the owners's of Crownview. He also had my son on ketamine treatments which is unadvisable for someone with autism., we found out later. My son took his life & I have found journal entries regarding Dr Melden, the things he said & how it made him feel. He was not kept safe at Crownview or in the care of Dr Melden. read more

This doctor has a problem with bedside manners and ego. I believe he has too many patients to manage and therefore he does a one size fits all type of treatment. He has everyone on Invega even if they don't have schizophrenia. You wait weeks for any response and if someone is on vacation you wait even longer. The inpatient facilities are run down and need serious upkeep. The houses need complete makeovers. Staff are for the most part very kind and helpful but the rules are stifling. read more

By far the worst psychiatrist I've ever had the misfortune of coming into contact with in my life. I had never even met him in my life. I had one zoom meeting with him and one phone call. He forced me to take the antipsychotic medication invega sustenna against my will, at the maximum dose, saying if I didn't take it that he would have me sent back to jail and that he would tell my probation officer that I wasn't being med compliant. I have OCD and am not schizophrenic, schizoaffective, bipolar, or psychotic so I don't need antipsychotics but he forced me to take it anyway. I was forced to take it for about a year and a half while I was at his program Crownview Co Occuring Institute and the side effects were unbearable. He had almost everybody at Crownview on Invega Sustenna, and I found out on chatGPT that he receives payments from the company that makes invega sustenna. Now that I'm out of the program I'm off of it and I've been off of it since about March of 2024 but the side effects are still with me and haven't gone away yet. I don't want to go into too much detail but I feel like I've been given a permanent chemical lobotomy and castration. I have permanent sexual dysfunction, anhedonia, and emotional blunting from being forced to take that poison from this piece of shit. This was a serious violation of my rights and if I could do it over again I would have just gone back to jail rather than taking the medication. I was in jail because I owned guns in California that weren't California legal and I got falsely accused of making threats, and ratted out on my guns while I was in the middle of moving out of state. I was moving out of state so that my guns would have been legal. California's gun laws are unjust and unconstitutional. I tried to explain that to him but he didn't listen. He abuses his power and he shouldn't be allowed to practice as a psychiatrist. read more

This poser is a real piece of work! He makes up things as he goes along. If you call him out he acts like a 2 year old and lambasts you on how you are "not being a good client". He drops down into a broken record repeating himself. If you ask him how he intends to treat you he repeats what you ask him and asks how you are going to treat yourself without any regard for the fact that he is the doctor. read more

Melden Mark Dr - a true poser. - Doctors Near Me - Coronado, California

Mark Melden is a total douche. I was traumatized for hours after my appt. i think he had a tee time and quickly minimized really serious traumas and then left. He just wanted me to shut up, take orders and acquiesce even though Ive been severely traumatized. He's an Osteopath and gets off by making you feel like shit. He may have NPD. Total Loser!!! read more

I don't recommend him. He is not empathetic and he practically seems to do nothing but just diagnose you with drugs. I'm not an expert in psychology or psychiatry, but it makes no sense for him to not take the time to get to know me. Also, I asked him to call me Mr. and then my last name, because to this day, I still feel that only those that are close and familiar should call me by my first name and he refused, saying that I'm not Mr. Cribbs to him. That makes no sense. His title is still above mine. I'm just trying to get a distance, it's not about ego. People who only consider it egotistical are very ill-informed. read more

My son was in his care at Crownview in Oceanside. He put him on clozaril & titrated unsafely (25,50,75,100mg)in 4 days!! I spoke w/ him & e/one on staff prior and warned how dangerous this type of titration was & suggested adhering to Dr. Laitman's 12.5 mg per week Protocol. He arrogantly stated "I do this all the time!" At same time, he took my son off 20 mg Abilify cold turkey creating rebound psychosis. Long story short, Crownview caused more harm than good. My son was taken to a casino by the counselors there and they lied when confronted. The "counselors" left him unsupervised (all during the course of this dangerous titration). I could go on and on. He ended up going missing after having an "episode" at the outing and ended up bringing himself into the hospital! I tried getting my son transferred to one of the best docs in Stanford and he said, "get your son out of there!! Bring him home where he is loved!!" The best thing I did was get my son out of there and bring him home to where people actually care about him. These residential facilities are so sad and money hungry. There's so much more to write but it's all too re-traumatizing. Keep your LO near you and stay away from doctors like this!! read more

I have never been more insulted by anyone the way DO (not DR) Mark Melden has to me. He is brash, rude, narcissistic and would always tell me what I'm doing wrong. He has pushed so many different pills for my PTSD/depression but never anything for my anxiety. Getting an appointment is like pulling teeth and once I'd get there the wait time is ridiculous. I don't think I have ever been seen on time. And forget about getting any kind of letter or copies of your medical file. They charge so much for a single letter, it is beyond criminal! Avoid this idiot, do your research (I made the mistake of not researching him) and stay away! read more

This excuse for psychiatrist tried to tell me that I did not have ADHD and instead was depressed and fat in order to get me into his weight loss program. Do not trust him with your mental health. read more

It has taken me several years to write this review. I went to see Dr. Melden at the request of my primary doctor. My life was falling apart. I had had several life changing events happen all at one and I was a mess. I told my doctor and Dr. Melden that I had found I was using alcohol for self medication...which was not normal for me. Dr. Melden looked at me and said...you're an alcoholic, you're just an alcoholic, you need to go to AA. I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown due to my life condition and that is all he could say to me. I asked for medicine of anxiety and he refused. What happened after that is years of trying to get help without the STIGMA of I was just an alcoholic. Years later and I have my own Psychiatric care that does not take insurance and treats me with what i need to be treated with. I'll never forget his treatment of me, I'll never forget that he would not help me. I will never forget that at the weakest moment in my life needing help he was supposed to provide, he dismissed me of JUST being an alcoholic. He is a Narcissist and should seek his own treatment. It's truly a shame that Sharp Healthcare is associated with a doctor and office like Dr. Meldon's. I came to the doctor with a pain medication addiction. From the first day he was very arrogant and keep talking about himself. The real problem came when I was having problems with the withdrawal medication he gave me. I couldn't get a hold of him at all, I called into his office numerous times and they kept telling me he was out. It is absolutely impossible to get another appointment Dr. Meldon. My next appointment was with his nurse practitioner, she's a very nice lady but she's also a pill pusher. By the end of our 30 minute consultation she was telling me that I had bipolar disorder, severe anxiety, and try to give me four different medications. The funny thing about the medications she was trying to give me was that she had coupons for every single one of them, isn't that kind of weird? I thought all along I was going to work with Dr. Meldon. I'd love to see how he bills the insurance company, bet he's real honest about that also. All I can say is Dr. Meldon does not care about his patients, all he cares about is the bottom dollar. He's arrogant and money hungry. When you have one than one review saying your arrogant, must be a problem. If you have a pain medication problem, go to another doctor. You need somebody that cares about you, not just your insurance payment. I've also written to Sharp healthcare with a complaint, and the medical board of california. Will update when this man gets the punishment he deserves. read more

I drove my disabled friend to her appointment with Dr. Mark Melden in Coronado. Found the office (an old house), patients must park in the street and wheelchair access is difficult. Checked in on time, waited and waited. Forty-five minutes later, the office manager came out to inform us that the doctor does not take Medicare patients. Why didn't they say that when we made the appointment or when we checked in? Dr. Melden is on the Medicare.gov site as a Medicare Provider and lists Medicare as an accepted insurance on his page. He created the Crownview Medical Group on LegalZoom in 2014. I regret not checking his background before I made the appointment. read more

Caveat emptor! This man does NOT have a medical degree! He is a DO, or Doctor of Osteopathy. He was absolutely horrid and tried to charge us overtime when it was he who was going on about the local ComicCon with my husband and daughter. He was narcissistic when speaking with me, so I wanted to keep my thoughts to myself and see what my husband had to say about him when he met with him. He felt the same way. In addition, the very rude receptionist really enjoys showing off the large tattoos on her chest. I don't need to see that much cleavage in any environment. read more

At my first and last appointment with Dr Melden, he was rude, disrespectful, arrogant, condesending, and displayed no compassion. With such an abrassive personality like that, why did he ever bother becoming a psychiatrist in the first place. He should have become a pathologist instead, as it would be a better fit for his personality. I strongly recommend NOT going to him or anyone in his group at Crownview Medical read more

I had a poor experience with Dr. Melden. It became very clear after a short time that he was trying to push a regimen of medications of which I made very clear that I was not interested in. He claims to be an addiction expert; that he is not. Fortunately, San Diego has a high number of competent psychiatrists who are addiction experts, so I was able to find a good one who really knows how to listen to his patients. Please, do yourself a favor and move down the list to another doctor. I did, and I am much happier for it. read more

Took 3 scheduled appointments to see Dr. Melden. He canceled the first 2. When I asked him about it, he was not even aware that he did so nor did he apologize. Went there today for my second appointment. Waited over 30 minutes. No one came out to the waiting room to let me know he was running behind. Walked out after getting my co-pay refunded. The office pushes for patients to see a Nurse Practitioner that fills in for him. I do not want to see a NP. I want to see a psychiatrist. read more

I couldn't say enough good about this doctor. He has been life changing for me. He looks at so much more than just the obvious and takes into account all the elements before prescribing treatment. He makes you part of your treatments and offers you choices. He has done blood work and testing that no one else ever did. I feel so blessed to have found him. I am a business owner and struggle with memory, organization and stress. Dr. Melden care has given me the ability to do it all again. read more

I was going to post a review about Dr. Melden and found this one. I was going to post something on ZocDoc, because that is how I found him. My experience was much different. He was excellent, and I was really nervous about taking a medication. He explained to me what I was going to take and why. He really took the time to explain. I wanted to write a positive review because he did such a great job. He has a DO degree and that is a medical degree. read more
