I had a horrible experience with Dr. papas years ago and felt I need to warn women not to see him. When he was listening to my heart he pressed himself up against my legs...I moved my legs over to the side, and he moved himself over again. I was shocked and discussed. I called my Dr who had retired and referred me to him and shared the story. I also told several doctor friends recently about it and they said " You should report this to the medical board", which I am going to do. George Papas "doctor" lacks customer service skills. I felt like cattle walking in & out. Doctor found a lump on my back and said it could be a lipoma but let's get you scheduled with dermatology & a general surgeon to have it removed. It's been almost 2 weeks and I haven't heard a word from him or his team. Called them and they told me they are still processing the referral without any follow up. I came here because I saw their review rating but it's pretty clear these have been bought or posted by bots in order to boost the rating and get more clients in the door. If you're looking for customer service, great communication and a simple follow up save your time and avoid this doctor. read more

Seeing Ms Couris has been highly beneficial to my overall health and she really cares. However, the front office lacks follow up and communication required to provide comprehensive care. If they are supposed to follow up with you -- in my experience they probably won't. Often times, my call is not even answered and I have to call multiple times over the course of a day to finally get a response from someone. My medication requires prior authorization with my insurance company and I have called the office dozens of times following up on it. It has yet to be resolved and I have very little confidence it will be based on their organization. My prior authorization that I am fully qualified for is now denied twice due to lack of coordination, communication, and complete documentation provided to my insurance company. I am now running out of the medication and at risk of going backwards on my treatment. I am not sure who to discuss with or how to get the care I need. Still waiting on call backs from their office that were promised days ago and not motivated to continue trusting this office with my care. read more

I set an appointment with this office for a basic physical, blood test and urinalysis because they had good reviews through my healthcare provider and their office is close to where I live. The doctor and his employees are extremely nice and I was in and out of there in a reasonable amount of time, considering every doctors office I've ever been to is at least 30 minutes behind schedule regardless of the time of day. However, when I originally scheduled my appointment over the phone, I had asked for them to call me back and let me know my out-of-pocket costs. I was told I'd get a call back the next day. I didn't get a call. So I called again the next day and got the same answer. I was not called back again the next day. I learned on the third day I had called that they had left a message with the wrong number the day before (hopefully not disclosing any of my personal information). Then, when I finally did have my appointment, they lost my urine sample so I have to go back again. Not a good first impression. read more

Dr. Papas was not at his office for my first visit as a new patient. His Physician's Assistant conducted the in-take. I was a little put off that he was not there to see a new patient. In the 5 times +/- that I went to his office, I only met him once. He is a no nonsense kind of doctor, and I didn't mind that. But his staff are usually short with you on the phone with an "I don't care attitude". They don't return voicemail messages. Seems like their office is often closed. I called recently with symptoms of bronchitis and they wanted me to get a covid test before making an appointment. So I jumped through the hoop, found a test and was negative like I told them. Left a message to get an appointment that went unanswered. Called the next day to find out Dr. Papas and his PA were not in the office and I would have to wait another day to be seen. They also told me they don't take my insurance any longer, so the wasted two days of my time feeling pretty sick for nothing. Very poor health care in my opinion. read more

I'm very torn about Dr. Papas, so a solid 3. Pluses: He is no-frills, a funny guy in a gruff way which I appreciate, and the front office very friendly and accommodating. I've never had any trouble getting an appointment relatively quickly. Wait times are not long in my experience. Minuses: Some things he does not seem to be super knowledgeable on, that in my mind a PCP should be solidly up on. For example, vaccinations. I let him know I'd like to get up to date with vaccinations and he insisted that adults don't need them. Suspecting that this was not altogether correct, I went to CVS Minute Clinic and they were able to provide me with a CDC list and give the boosters and vaccinations that have become standard since I was born (Hep B, A).I realize that travel vaccinations are a totally different ballgame, but with basic childhood vaccinations I would think he'd be in the know. I get the impression that retirement is near and that he may not be as sharp as he once was, although I have been seeing him for only a couple of years. I don't know that I would return to him if I were having a serious ailment as some of the things he's said have sounded off (as in, contrary to everything other doctors & the internet have told me) but for regular checkups he has always seemed very thorough and pleasant! read more

I've been trying to find all the possible outlets to complain about what Dr. Papas put me through! I went in initially for a kidney infection/kidney stone. This was all well and good and taken care of. HOWEVER, I still wasn't feeling well afterwards and went in for a follow-up. I mentioned that my tonsils were swollen into my mouth and pushing on my throat, and perhaps they were infected and causing me trouble. He looked in my mouth, no light, no tongue depressor, and just said "I can't even see your tonsils." Umm, okay, you're the doctor I guess. He told me I must have a virus or something and sent me on my way. Fast forward a couple months, a new year has started and my large deductible has reset. My tonsils are so swollen it hurts, and they are now draining pus. I had to go to urgent care, and eventually saw an ear/nose/throat doctor. He said my tonsils were very cryptic, had been bad for quite some time, and were the most likely source of my ongoing, inexplicable cold-like symptoms. This specialist told me there was no way all of that had happened in the last few months, and he was surprised I'd never had them checked out before. They had to be removed, and it cost me quite a bit of money and lost time that could have been completely avoided had Dr. Papas done his job the first time. Naturally, I went back to him to complain about this and let him know what happened. Conveniently, he didn't have anything in his notes about me mentioning my tonsils. He told me I should have come back to see him -- AFTER HE MISSED THE PROBLEM THE FIRST TIME! Then he had the AUDACITY to tell me that the specialist I saw was in no position to be making claims about how long my tonsils had been messed up. Oh, and this is all on top of the fact that it took me three calls to even speak with the office manager, and she ARGUED WITH ME about how many messages I had left her. WTF!? read more

Completely disappointed. I went to Dr. Papas office after finding him through Aetna. I read the reviews and saw that folks either loved him, or hated him. I went in the a cough, runny nose, and chest pain. He checked me out and said I looked a little thin. I let him know that I was still nursing my daughter, then he said I was not under weight. I had my throat swabbed. He determined that I had a sinus/throat infection and prescribed a "z pack". I took a pill for 5 days and would be better, if not call. When I asked if it was safe because I was nursing he said I might want to check with our pediatrician. Shouldn't he know this? I asked the ped and it was safe. I called back three times, on different days to see about the swab with no return call. I still wasn't feeling 100% either. The following week I called 3 times on the same day and finally said I would hold as long as it took to speak with him. He then came on the phone within 2 minutes and said he was calling in a new prescription for me. I questioned what it was that he was prescribing and how he is determining what I need over the phone. He seemed bothered and said he was trying to save me a trip from coming in. Now, feeling horrible and desperate to be cured I run to Target to pick up my prescription... After paying $67 and taking the medication (Levaquin) I read the bold print "DO NOT TAKE IF BREASTFEEDING". I specifically told him I was nursing. After looking online and through the meds it says, "Levofloxacin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby." FOR THE LOVE OF GOD?! read more

I came in with a hacking cough that had been ongoing for weeks. Dr. Papas didn't do any tests and only gave me a cursory exam, telling me I just needed bed-rest and maybe some Robitussin (which the receptionist couldn't spell, by the way). Utterly unsatisfied, I decided to get a second opinion. Thank goodness I did; the chest x-rays and a CT scan at the ER showed I had pneumonia. It's important to me to have a doctor who is willing and able to do the needed tests to make a proper diagnosis, and this little storefront just doesn't have the facilities to provide proper medical care. read more

I have been going to this doctor since 2003. My wife and I went to see him when she was pregnant with our son. I had yearly checkups and trusted Dr. Papas with my LIFE. Turns out that he diagnosed me wrong in 2011 when I had kidney problems, he said that I have a bladder infection. He prescribed medicine to me for the infection. Three days later I had to go to the emergency room in the middle of the night due to tremendous pain in my lower back. Damage for that visit 1200 dollars which could have been prevented being diagnosed right the first time. Thank you, Doctor Papas!!! read more

Dr. Papas and his whole team are great. He is very knowledgeable and takes time for his patients. We felt understood and very well treaten.

Dr. Papas was not personable in the slightest and seemed to only care about making money. I got an ear infection from my scuba diving certification dives. So in order to finish my certification, I went to Dr. Papas to get some medication. That appointment went over smoothly, about a 3 star visit probably. I was given medication and took it for the prescribed time period. That's how a normal checkup would go. But in my case, I had to have a scuba form signed by a Doctor saying I could finish my dive. So back to Dr. Papas I went. This time, he refused to sign my form without a full checkup. And his full check up... well, that consisted of him looking in my ear with a light. That's it. After looking in my ear, he signed my paper and gave me the 40 dollar co-pay. It just felt ridiculous to me that a look in my ear cost me 40 dollars. Oh well. read more

My wife and I returned from a vacation sailing on my parents boat in the Bahamas with what only turned out to be a skin irritation from a suntan lotion we had been using. This was diagnosed by my new doctor, not Dr. Papas, and treated with re-assurance and the suggestion to relax and call him if the rash didn't clear up in a couple of days. Dr. Papas, on the other hand, insisted it was scabies. In hind sight, I can't understand what made him think this as there were none of the tell-tale signs besides some bumps on the skin. He didn't take the skin scrapings that would then be tested or observed to confirm his suspicion. Dr. Papas recounted a story regarding his cats bringing home some similar bug which completely convinced him that it was what we had. His suspicion did not convince me and luckily, I found another doctor for a second opinion. Nevertheless, when you are told you have a highly transmittable infestation, the responsible thing to do is is to call anyone else that might be exposed. This, of course, meant calling my parents as well as my Aunt and Uncle who almost cancelled their vacation for fear of picking up the bug themselves. That was pretty embarrassing. If we actually had scabies, it would have been the right thing to do. Mis-diagnosis, can be frustrating but I would be more considerate about the situation if that was the only problem. This is the second visit to Dr. Papas' office and both times it was explained to me that they wouldn't submit the office visit to my insurance. If they don't submit it to my insurance, I don't get the discounted rate negotiated by the insurance company and there is no record of the transaction for my annual deductible. I was required to pay full rate by cash or check at the time service was rendered. Now I have a new doctor that I am much happier with. read more

The Single star is for his nursing staff and Not for the Doctor himself. i find it ridiculousness that anytime i have more then one thing going on he sent my to the emergency room. He refuses to do much for me except to send me to s specialist. my husband was feeling a little under the weather for almost a week and he wasn't getting better so we went to this doctor to see what was going on. Dr. Papas did an exam and informed us that he might have the flu and that he was going to run a few tests. i didn't mind this but then he informed us that we should make a appointment upfront. at that appointment he would tell us the results but the appoint would be in 4 weeks. needless to say after the coughing and mucus build-up didn't stop in a week we went to the ER and he had Pneumonia. so that you again Dr. Papas for not knowing anything useful. read more

I'm really sorry to leave such awful review that may negatively reflect not only on the doctor himself, but on his entire office (and I've found his personnel very nice and helpful, so I'm not talking about staff here - just the doctor), but I really feel that I have to WARN his current and prospective patients. Dr. Papas was randomly assigned to me by my insurance. I have a recurrent skin infection. I was tested positive for MRSA in 2009, the infection since then went away and came back several times. I had another outbreak (painful abscess-type boil) and I made and appointment with Dr. Pappas hoping he would drain it and give me antibiotics, the usual drill that I am, unfortunately, way familiar with by now. I brought all my medical records with me, including the lab results from 2009 that indicated that I tested positive for MRSA. Appointment No. 1: 1. He barely looked at my records; 2. He REFUSED to drain the abscess and said 'I'll give you a referral to the surgeon". That was right before the holiday weekend, meaning the soonest I could possibly get to the surgeon would be in 5-7 days...meanwhile, the infection continues to spread in my body and may enter my bloodstream and potentially become life-threatening; 3. He gave me a prescription for the antibiotic that MRSA is RESISTANT TO, which not only does not help the condition, but makes the bacteria even more resistant to treatment. Next day, the abscess opens up, with lots of blood and pain. I was rushed to the ER. The ER doctor drained it, cleaned it, looked CLOSELY at my previous medical records, gave me prescription for Vibramycin that does treat MRSA. Like I've said before, it was a holiday weekend, so I had to come back to the ER in a couple days to care for the wound, and only after a couple days more I was able to schedule another appointment with Dr. Papas for a wound re-check. I'm not even going to begin to tell you in how much pain I was for these 6 days and how inconvenient it was. I missed a lot of time at work, and I required assistance with everything at home - I couldn't walk by myself, needed help sitting down and getting up, etc. Had he drained it the first time around and not let it burst and get even more infected, it wouldn't have that big of a deal at all. Appointment No. 2: 1. He ASKS ME whether I want my wound re-packed, or whether he should leave it uncovered...SERIOUSLY??? 2. He finally decides to re-pack it, and tells me to come back for a re-check 5 DAYS AFTER (packing on an open would, especially potentially MRSA-infected should be done every 2 days!!!!!); 3. He tells me to STOP taking Vibramycin. I left his office in tears. Obviously, the man was oblivious to what my condition really was, and he couldn't care less. There were other things like him slamming my head on the wall while pushing the exam table toward the wall while I was on it, and that he sent me to the WRONG surgeon whose office told me they don't treat conditions like mine... Oh, and he also tried to speak broken Spanish to me. Even though my name is Maria (let's talk about stereotyping here!), I'm not a Spanish speaker - surprise!!!! - as he could have figured out because a) I do not look Hispanic, b) my accent sounds differently from a Spanish-speaking person's, and c) guess what - I wrote down my nationality in the patient information form that he obviously didn't even look at. I found that inconsiderate at least towards myself, and simply offensive towards the Spanish-speaking people. I was lucky enough to have the HR-coordinator at my work being able to have my insurance switch doctors immediately, as it was plainly not safe to remain under Dr. Papas' care. As I continue to require medical care, I went to another doctor yesterday, who was SHOCKED by what I told her about my experience being Dr. Papas' patient for 1 week. Dr. Papas, I hope you or someone from your office reads this. I am not hoping that you would remember me, even know all of this happened in the past two weeks, as I obviously was just a number. I also really hope that my two $40 co-pays and whatever you were able to charge my insurance really helps your financial situation, because apparently, being able to collect from patients and insurance is your priority, as opposed to actually helping your patients. I looked up your credentials, and it all looks very impressive. Which means, you've had all this experience and you know what to do, there was probably time when you were a great doctor, but now - at least with me - you just CHOSE to not care. So sad. My visit did not even include the doctor's presence, as I was waiting in the room for 1.5 hours until I had to leave. All I needed was a refilled birth control prescription. Their system was down, and they attributed the long wait times to that. I understand, but I can't condone what happened next. Before leaving, the super nice receptionist seemed like she wanted to help, and took down my number. The doctor ended up sending out a prescription for my birth control to the pharmacy without calling my insurance. First off, he hadn't even seen me properly to prescribe the prescription (which I felt was weird). Secondly, he didn't call my insurance because it wasn't fully covered as my agent said it would be. He caught a condition that somehow escaped all of my previous doctors, and his knowledge is what helped me solve this issue that has plagued me for years. He LISTENED to me describe what I'd been going through, and even caught on to some concerns that I hadn't even addressed, putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, and giving me a referral to a great specialist who confirmed Dr. Papas' suspicions. This is an atrocious doctor and a catastrophic office. My husband was having stomach pains, a blood test and mri was run. We heard nothing from the doctor and finally called the office to check in. The receptionist took it upon herself to read the results of both test. She said the results mentioned he had an enlarged liver. You know what causes an enlarged liver? Leukemia. We made an appointment in a panic. When we got there (I insisted on going along), doctor papas wandered in, and asked what was going on. He had never read the results to prepare himself for the appt. When we explained, he waved his hand, "oh you're a big guy that's fine." At this point me husband had been in pain for months and this guy had done nothing but switch him off of antacid drugs that have been working for years, and scare us into thinking my husband had leukemia. I had to twist his arm to get a referral to a specialist. Second- his office insisted my husband needed to come in every three months for a review of a drug he's been on FOR FIVE YEARS when he tried to get a refill. We told them we were gone for Christmas and could they please call in a refill... they grudgingly agreed and then, you guessed it, never called in the refill. So now he's off the drugs for 5 days while we wait for the new year holiday to be over so we can call, again. They're irresponsible and frankly I think there should be consequences. Unfortunately, the consumer is not protected in this country so instead I decided to use the only recourse I have available and tell everyone on yelp. Stay away. For the two years I lived in North Park, I had no further to go than simply to George Papas' office, a mere five minutes away, for all of my doctor-y needs. The nurses are upfront, friendly, and Papas himself is great. While there i got regular check-ups, dealt with a sprained/over-stretched ligament, and even got running advice. Like Nick said, the place isn't fancy, but it IS welcoming, and the staff is *on point.* I loved it. read more

This very convenient office is exactly that, but to see the doctor and get in at your scheduled time would be like asking for rain on a hot summers day. I have been in on a few occasions and waited in the office for hours to see the doc for about five minutes, which is typical, and what more could you ask for from an office with one doctor on staff. I dont like the paper thin walls and the silence in the waiting room. Seems like an evasion of privacy when you can sit in the waiting room and hear what's going on in the exam rooms. My husband walked out of this consultation with what he thought was a prescription. He realized it was just a referral a couple of weeks later and called the doctor's office. They said they would mail the prescription to our military address. It's been 3 months and still no prescription and not so much as an apology. I picked this place because it was close and on the list for my PPO. I'll never go back. The waiting room: Creepy. Would be a good setting for a horror flick. The recepionists behind the glass: RUDE! They speak with an attitude, are very short with people, and act like you are wasting their time. I called in with some insurance info for them and the lady who answered the phone said she'd have the Dr. call me back later. I told her that I didn't need to speak to the Dr. and that I just had the name and number of someone he needed to call, would she write it down for him? Dr. Papas is a friendly, professional, and considerate doctor. I've come here for 3.5 years. My appointments are always on time, rather than waiting all day for another doctor to work his way down his over filled schedule. The staff are friendly and organized. Not many other doctors will give you some of their time without charging you exorbitantly. I've had prescriptions renewed, changed to generic brands (to be filled at naval hospital), quick follow ups all in and out in 5 or 10 minutes with no hassle and often free of charge. I've been going to Dr. Pappas for about a year and a half now because he was really convenient to my house and on my insurace and even though I hate looking for a new doctor my current experience has pushed me over the edge. I should have switched last November after I went in saying I saw a spot on my tonsil and that I felt that I probably had strep due to past experience. I was being proactive because I was supposed to travel up the coast to a wedding and didn't want to infect anyone. He did a culture, said it looked like thrush (it looked nothing like thrush), prescribed a z pack, which he seems to favor according to other reviews here. Long story short he said I would hear back from his office within a few days. I didn't hear back within four days so went off to the wedding. A WEEK AND A HALF after my appointment I get a call from one of the nurses saying that I tested positive for strep and needed to give them a call. Seriously I had been going to work every day and went to a wedding probably infecting people left and right! So on top of the $50 I had to spend on the Z pack I had to get an additional prescription. Last week I went to Dr. Pappas because I had a sinus infection for the past few months that wouldn't go away. After waiting 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time the doctor took a cursory look at one of my ears that I mentioned the infection might be spreading to and prescribed a strong antibiotic and nose spray. After the first two days of taking the prescriptions I started getting really strange and alarming chest pains so I called the doctor's office yesterday and told them and over 24 hours later had still not received a call back. CHEST.PAINS. seriously? and I have to call them back? I just called them back and expressed my disappointment and the nurse's response was "okay". I asked if there was any reply from the doctor to my call yesterday and she put me on hold because Linda was the one who had spoken to him. After waiting on hold for a few minutes I hung up and so far they haven't bothered to call me back and I don't believe they will. I will not be going back. read more
