The soups look yummiest, I didn't see any tostones or chuletas on display and they have to ring it in the kitchen, and the empanadas as well. I've been living in the neighborhood for roughly 20 years and have been here twice, and both times the customer service was so nasty, it deterred me from returning. Some time had passed and I figured that these were isolated incidents, and decided to give them a third try. This was the LAST time I'll ever step foot in there. The young lady at the counter each time was different, but their attitudes were ALWAYS stank - and this girl was NO exception. I requested a fresh batch of the dish that I wanted (you could see it was almost gone and had been there all day). The way the girl rolled her eyes at me, you'd think she had to go back there, slaughter the pig, and cook it herself. She wasn't even subtle about it - she was openly dismissive and if she rolled her eyes any harder, they would have rolled out of her skull. When they finally did bring out the fresh batch, she snuck an old piece in anyway and it was then that I decided that I'm not going to light her up like I wanted to - I'm just done giving this restaurant a chance. I'm the guy that brings amazing energy, overtips, doesn't get offended too easily, and has a smile for everyone. I didn't deserve to be treated like that. I have assumptions about why they're so nasty, but this review doesn't apply to all of the workers (some were VERY friendly), so that would be unfair and presumptive. Not a bad place to get home cooked food when I eat here it is really good and customer service is very nice and helpful the roasted chicken with rice and beans are well done and taste amazing. The deserts are one of the best things ever as they even have huge cake slices for desert, and words cannot even express how good it is. They have multiple flavors as well for the cakes. Last time I went in for Mother's Day 2023, I waited 10 minutes to order even though there was no one else on line. Then the woman barely understood a word I was saying. I asked if they still have the family meals which I get all the time and she said NO. So I asked for rice and pernil, I kid you not, she gave me one slice of fat. I asked that's it? If I can give this place less then a star I would . First of all how I order a soap then wanted to take it home and they gave me a little spoon and told me to do it myself with that small spoon like wtf . I wanted to be nice and not spill it on the table cause they gave me a very small plastic container and it was very hard to even put it in there . The service was the worst of them all . Casual, no-frills restaurant serving up affordable yet tasty and filling Dominican / Hispanic cuisine. You can score half a rotisserie chicken with rice and beans for around $11. This place has some great food but the WORST customer service. The counter lady, "Nairobi" is a nasty individual with horrible people skills. She tried to overcharge me on my order when I was going by the prices on the menu. She was very combative towards me when I addressed her about her mistake. She completely shut down and called me "miserable" and an "idiot". I was appalled by the blatant disrespect by someone who works in the service industry. Melany's really needs to focus on their staff and hire better people with customer service skills. After this unfortunate experience, I will NEVER order from Melany's ever again. I decided to try a restaurant name Melany at 785 Flatbush Ave Brooklyn NY, which was recommended to me, and I must say the service was horrible the lady serving my food pretty much put what she wanted to serve me instead of what I asked and paid for. Good but messy, messy, messy *This would be a 2.5 rating but I believe in rounding up. Recently, we had a large lunch order(about 5 dishes) delivered to my job. While the food smelled delicious, a lot of the liquid from the dishes was all over and dripping out of the bag (there was a trail of chicken and codfish stew following the delivery person). The food must have taken a rough voyage to get to my company's office. Even the brown paper bags were falling apart from being soaked in the variety of chicken sauces and stews. The delivery was about 30 minutes late, which was a little annoying. All of that aside, the food was tasty (a little on the salty side, though) but the quality of the food was fairly typical of most Latin restaurants in the area. Also, the food portions are HUGE (I had the codfish stew with rice and beans). If you order a lunch special, you will have enough food for dinner or you can split an order between two people. If I try this place again, I think that I will dine in (or take out) rather than ordering delivery. read more

As an African America it was a shock the loves lack of courtesy in this establishment after frequenting El Cofre in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn for years. The El Cofre staff was bilingual so ordering was never a problem. The staff here at Melany was disinterested in helping me and I should have walked out. I live in the neighborhood, so whenever me and the family are all home and no one wants to cook breakfast we order from melany... Me and the sis always orders mangu, salami, eggs, fried cheese with red onions....it's so delicious. The mangu is moist and hot it's supposed to be, with much flavor, no need for salt& pepper or adobo... And the red onions gives it the kick it needs. Let me start off first by saying the food is excellent. Delicious food and at a fair price. If this was all the review was based on it would be a home run, but it isn't. The service is literally piss poor. I placed an order for sweet plantains over the phone to pick up. Went there 10 mins later as I was told and they didn't even begin. I'm a patient person, stood there quietly, decided to sit down watching baseball on the TV while it was being "prepared." Decided to get up five mins later to see the status. I saw sweet plantains there on the counter. Said to myself yes, we see in business. Stood there patiently, saw other customers come in after me, wait in line then order, then pick up their food. At this point I was beginning to be annoyed. Still kept my smile, pretending my girlfriend and I are okay with this service. Didn't have cash, so to use my card, decided to get a large soup. Still stood there waiting, then one of the ladies who saw me waiting told another one to help me. Meanwhile I'm now the only one there as a customer. The employee who she told, couldn't see me from that angle. The person she was talking to said, "oh the black one." This precipitated the increasing steady decline of my opinion of the place. The guy came up to ring me up for the soup, and the plantains that were there on the counter top sitting there for about 10 minutes. Told me the price, 9.75, was using tap to pay (credit card). Their policy is 10 dollars minimum, in my mind I said to myself.. Are you serious? Purchased a ginger ale for a dollar. So back to the payment section now, told him I'm using tap to pay (which they have there). He said they don't take that. In my mind I'm like, "it's f#cking right there with its stupid logo). Another employee came up and said it's fine to take that from him. He then told me he wants to see the card number and my ID. I gave him my ID, and my phone with the screen turned off to prove a point how to pay works. Tapped my phone on the payment system. Receipt comes up and he says to me he wants me to sign it. I'm like where, there receipt literally says, "no signature required." I guess it's the new payment option where you don't have to sign. But the receipt said I don't have to sign, showed him and he forced me to sign. Believe me I would have walked out of there 15 mins ago if it wasn't for my girlfriend who was starving. We literally came for sweet plantains, ended up wasting about 20 mins there and buying extra stuff, with a free aide of racism. When we left there I told the misses that we are not going back there. She said she wanted to leave there a long time ago but knew I was being patient and decided to be patient with me. So for this crappy service, we decided to go on Amazon, buy a skillet and make our own sweet plantains at home. One of the dish on the menu is Monfongo. With Monfongo you are suppose to get sauce (gravy) and garlic. Yes the Monfongo is cooked with garlic but you can put additional garlic on the Monfongo with the gravy. I sent my son to pick up an order for me and someone there told him the garlic is cooked in the Monfongo. Now this is not the first second or third time I have bought food from here and I always got the garlic for the Monfongo. So why when it was asked for it was not given. I'm paying for my food and everything that suppose to come with it or even what is asked for. So why didn't I get my garlic. I hate these places where you have to beg for condiments. My bacon was raw, the grits were thick, lumpy and looked like paste, the toast was so hard it could break your teeth. I've have food delivered from this place before and their mofongo is quite tasty. Today I decided to visit the actual restaurant for a sit down dinner. The food was delicious, but the service was less than great. The waitress seemed overworked and barely paid attention to me. She brought my food, but after that completely forgot about me. There was a large group of really noisy people, screaming and singing at the top of their lungs and no one asked them to turn it down for the benefit of the other customers trying to enjoy their food. I had to bring my leftovers to the counter to have them packaged up and when I asked for my bill the waitress pretty much quoted whatever price she felt like. Thankfully I knew the price of what I had eaten. When I confronted her she apologized in a "I was caught" kinda way. Veredict: Will probably order delivery again. Will never set foot at the restaurant ever again. Advise: Make sure you know the price of what you are ordering and double check when you get the bill. read more

If you want A LOT of food for a very low price, this is your spot. I once ordered a side order of sweet plantains, beans and rice and rotisserie chicken for $16 and it fed 3 people with leftovers. The side orders are huge!!! I usually wait about 10 minutes for my meal if I pick up. Now, it is a Spanish restaurant, so naturally there are Spanish speaking people running the place. I ordered their white rice and pink beans with pernil. I must say that the food is great and definitely Dominican. I ordered fried sweet plantains and they were made to order. This is a place I will definitely go back and visit when I'm in the mood for my heritage food since I no longer need to cook. The food just getting "nastier" and "nastier" if that's a word. My food was flat out nasty. They gave me so much rice with a scoop of red beans that was watery and the Pernil was all skin no meat. I'm so mad I wasted my $7... Mind you the waitresses attitudes are disgusting. If you don't come in there talking Spanish they act like they don't want to help you. All the women in the back serving the food purposely ignore you for countless minutes before they decide to take your order.
