Finally found the right combination of people travelling from different parts of SE London to try this place on Friday.
We didn't book and just managed to get the last free table at 8pm. Much of the restaurant was occupied by two birthday party groups celebrating in fine style.
Service was good and the menu is much as you'd expect. For starters most of our group went for the king prawns in butter, wine and cream - a winning combination that put smiles on many faces. We also tried the calamari (nice but a tad heavy with the garlic even for someone with a cold!) and the falafels. We made short work of the bread, still warm from the oven, which accompanied the starters.
As the waiters delivered the starters they told us the mains would be out in 10 minutes unless we wanted to wait until one of the birthday tables had been served. After checking the number of people at that table we agreed on 10 mins. This meant that some mains arrived just as we were finishing our starters but deft platework from the waiters avoided any mishaps.
Mains were tasty and generous. Tip: check whether your main comes with a salad before ordering a salad side order. We sampled: pirzola or lamb cutlets, yogurtlu adana or spicy minced lamb with yoghurt and tomato sauce, lamb sis kebab, soft and smoky chargrilled swordfish steaks.
With eyes bigger than bellies we turned to dessert and tucked into sweet and sticky kadayif and baklava. A great end to the meal.
The portions are generous and there's plenty of choice to suit vegetarian and non-vegetarian palates. I look forward to my next visit - and I noticed they do take out! read more
