Complimentary fresh bread and olives to start

I persuaded Scott to take me out for dinner this afternoon. Well, I actually wanted to grab some Thai food to take home from UniThai after seeing all the rave reviews on Yelp! Unfortunately, when we got there, the noodle bar was closed! Boo hoo. On the way home, we decided to pop in to Makara. We walk past it all of the time as we live close by, had the odd look at the menu but never made it inside! Today was different though. It was quiet inside, perhaps because it was only about 5.30pm and people hadn't finished work etc yet. We were seated and straight away some hot fresh bread and some olives were placed on our table. Nice!! We decided to order some hummus with lam chunks to go with our bread - it was incredibly tasty. For the main we had a mixed grill to share. Scott's eyes lit up when it was brought to our table - chicken breast, lamb chunks, chicken thighs, lamb kofta, ribs and lamb chop. It was mouth wateringly delicious. The Kofta was especially nice. I could have eaten loads of that. I was absolutely stuffed by the end of it. When we asked for the bill, the waiter brought it over, along with two pieces of baklava!! FREE BAKLAVA!! I love the stuff but I struggled to eat it as I was so full! We couldn't believe how good value for money our meal was - the bread, olives and baklava were free of charge, and there was no service charge either! We definitely left a tip. I'd recommend this place to anyone that's looking for high quality Mediterranean food in Brighton and Hove. 5 stars from me!

    Awesome restaurant

Being a huge fan of turkish food this is one of the few restaurants in England that can bring the true authentic flavor of the turkish cuisine.

    Delicious!

For me, there is…read morenot much point in looking at anything else on the menu because this is the pinnacle of kebab cuisine. If you don't know what a shawarma kebab is I will tell you. It consists of all your usual kebab ingredients - shaved meat, salad, onions, chilli sauce, garlic mayo (last two are optional), but rather than being in an open pitta bread, it is wrapped and rolled, making the eating a more rounded and less messy experience. This is simply great, as is the price: £2.50 and throw in a canned drink on top, you're looking at £3.20 for a piece of take-out heaven. I am sure there are other kebab shops that do the shawarma, but I have yet to find one, so Efes stays King of Kebabs until its right to the thrown is contested! De-lish! P.s. I would've taken a picture of the delightful wrap, but I ate it before I could get my camera out!

However, aesthetic perfection is not a necessary feature of this place, as it's purely and simply a run of the mill, drunken munchy quenching Kebab shop. Situated on top of the restaurant-laden Preston Street, Efes is the first decent place you'll see heading Hoveward from Brighton city centre. Offering the usual range of doner, shish and halal meat it'll satisfy most indiscriminate kebab fans. The also serve burgers and fries although I'd rather go to Grubbs for such things. Essentially Efes is everything you'd expect from a Kebab shop.

I loved that they paired it with almond milk instead of Greek yogurt! I had a small pot of tea with it and it was lovely! My friend is gluten and dairy intolerant so this place was perfect! She got a raw chocolate hazelnut bar and one of their vegan scones(it did have wheat)! She was even able to get an almond milk double latte. We loved infinity foods!

I didn't share it, I ate it all...greedy? maybe. content, full-bellied and ready to take on the world? definitely! The food is fresh, interesting and of course entirely vegetarian. In the spirit of their parent company, Infinity Cafe make it their mission to serve food that is both healthy and tasty and they succeed! This is one of my favourite places to sit with a coffee on a sunny day. They have seating outside as well as a built in bar that looks out on to the street. Weather permitting, the front of the cafe will be entirely opened up, creating a very European feeling street cafe vibe. The salads are yummy, cous cous, med veg, greek...all SO good. I can also recommend the cakes, especially the carrot cake...its really tasty and you know it can't be too gluttonous, if Infinity made it!

On my way back from uni I stopped by here, as I had accidentally fallen asleep on the bus and leaped off the bus on awakening, thinking I had actually travelled to Hove. This turned out to be the best bus related mistake of my life, as it meant that I discovered the delights of the Green Coombe Deli. I fancied a nice bread based meal, and spied a delicious sounding BLT on the board, and promptly ordered one to take away, before having the sudden rush of fear that I may not have enough dough on me. Fortunately, the reasonable prices meant I had enough, and the fine gentlemen waited patiently while I emptied my coins on the counter and rounded up the 5ps I needed to get exact change. He popped out back, and started the Panini process while I took another look around the store, which looked rather handsome and fresh. Still feeling a little dozy, I was a little surprised when he asked why I had taken a photo of his shop. Not wanting to say I was planning to review it (which would have been awkward for both of us) I gave my other reason for taking photographs, which is my appalling memory. We then had a pleasant chat about peoples reactions to me taking pictures, and his time working in the security industry... He was a genuinely pleasant man who seemed to really care about what was being said, rather than that false interest you can often get from staff. And the food itself, was delightful. There seemed to be a suggestion of garlic butter (only very mild) or something a bit beyond the traditional panini filling that made my taste buds twinkle with pleasure. Damned nice, and seeing as I haven't a bad word to say, 5*!

In a lot of ways this is what the Subway restaurant adverts should really try and aspire to. There is an expansive range of fillings to choose from (I went for a mozzarella and tomato) and you will have the option to really mix up what actually goes into the panini. I asked if there was any herb oil to go in my tasty bite and was pleased to get a positive response. As the shop wasn't that busy when I was there I had the chance to have a little chat about food and suchlike with the owner. He really does have a passion for food and is the perfect person to open such a shop. I had been thinking of taking my food to go, but ended up finishing the majority of it in the shop whilst I was chatting away (very rude of me eating in the middle of a conversation!) The prices are reasonable and there was a selection of produce to buy (oils and suchlike at varying prices). It's not particularly out of the way and well worth making the effort to swing by if you want to get a decent panini served by an extremely amicable owner. Thumbs up for sure!
