Spontaneous visit with my wife, I ordered a ribeye steak, chips billed as coming with tomatoes and rocket. Steak arrived, no chips...surly waiter telling me 'the chips are coming'....no rocket, no tomatoes. Steak was barely warm, so I started to eat it...half gone, said surly waiter brings chips over (salad never arrived) and I complained....steak and chips should come with chips at the same time...place was half empty, not like they were busy..zero empathy, zero apology....just simply 'ok so what do you want me to do then...you don't have to pay' very aggressive, very threatening (sub text being...just shut up , you don't have to pay, so suck it up.) I'd much rather have paid and had steak, chips and salad at £30 as listed in the menu come as steak, chips and salad...not just a steak. Waiter was beyond rudeness....muttering away that I'd complained and staring daggers at my wife from outside the kitchen...made her feel really uncomfortable. Disgraceful. So thanks Galu....we went on the hoof...my wife been battling serious illness for two years and we'd dropped in having been in Kingston Hospital for three hours to cheer ourselves up.... and you gave us a really poor, unwelcoming, bad quality experience...So angry. Waiter should be in the Parking Warden business not hospitality service... unpleasant, rude little man. My advice? If you want to be treated by some miserable mid life grubby waiter as if he's doing you a favour by letting you eat bad quality overpriced food in some underwhelming pad, then this is definitely the place for you. Enjoy...

We must have got there early as we were the second group there. I thought the service initially was slow. We ordered our drinks which was served incorrectly. When we pointed this out to the waitress, she said that she would need to check with the person who took the order. I thought this was a little odd as surely you just take our word for it. It was only a soft drink error, not like she had to open a bottle of champagne or anything. It took a while for the bread to arrive which was flat bread. Some were a little too charred but nothing too dreadful. The scallops were cooked nicely and the steak ordered was cooked as requested. The portion sizes were good with none of us requiring dessert. As time went on the restaurant filled up which shows that it a popular place. I am always pleased with service when the waiting staff treat children as human beings which they did here. The restaurant is nice and bright and the waiting staff friendly.

I admit it, I am a bit of a food snob. I would rather stay away restaurants that are part of a…read moregroup and frequent the smaller, more individual places. But last Saturday evening me and my friend were hungry, we had both had bad days, and we wanted food pronto. I didn't particularly care to drive around for an hour while I found the most authentic place to eat - I'm not stupid! So this is how we ended up at Red Peppers, my choice of sophisticated dining back when I was a teenager. I was actually quite pleased to be back; it was lively and fun, packed full of families and groups of friends - it seems Red P is the place to be for a celebration in Esher on a Saturday night. The moment we sat down our helpful waitress brought us a dish of free olives - you should know that I get disproportionately happy when I get free food, however small. We ordered a couple of glasses of Cabernet Sauv, nothing to write home about but perfectly decent to wash down dinner. The menu is huge, almost a bit too much choice. A lot of it is quite generic - starters are things like nachos, garlic mushrooms, baby back ribs, mains (which are huge), are foods like steak, burritos, fish, pizza or pasta. There are lots of side dishes as well. We ordered the Calamari to split as a starter which was very good, although my friend said that her main of fish cakes was 'so-so'. I had a small salad of roasted halloumi cheese over cous cous and roasted veg, which was perfectly decent, but didn't make me ooh and ahh in delight. The garlic pizza bread with caramelised onions and goats cheese that I had as a side was much tastier. I walked out completely stuffed, and the amount of carbs consumed had raised our serotonin levels sufficiently so that our bad day had been revised to a good evening, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that the food was responsible for that.

I had the Lamb Moussaka. There were no complaints whatsoever with the food. What was the best thing about the evening was how friendly the service staff were, and that we were not rushed at all. We will be returning again in September, and Red Peppers will be included in our culinary itinerary.

Everyone keeps telling us to go to South Croydon for a decent place to eat dinner. So we finally…read moreheading to the Restaurant Quarter to find that at 12:15 on a Saturday, very few looked open and ready for business. We noted this place that also had a sign for Conchitas Mexican Grill -- excited, I thought maybe the Apatura (whatever that was) had been replaced by a good Mexi joint. But we walked in to find a rather bland version of what qualifies for a "nice restaurant" (e.g., white linen tableclothes, leather arm chairs in the bar area, and an overall mid-90s sheen). The menu had mains that hovered in the £9-15 area, a bar menu and a lunch menu, which had a bit of a personality disorder. There was a Tex-Mex section, there were fish and chips on the menu, meze sharing platters, rib-eye steaks ... what the hell is going on here? Whatever, that's their thing, so we rolled with it. I got a Medi sharing platter and a small caesar salad. Husband got the steak and calamari. Both starters were excellent, though my salad had almost nothing about it that would qualify it for a traditional caesar, including the signature dressing. The calamari were fresh and crispy, nicely breaded not greasy or crumb-y. Then we waited .... and waited and waited for our mains to come out. We got refills. We put more money in the parking meter. Then we waited some more. Finally they emerged, my husband's steak got a thumbs up (should do for what it cost) and my platter was ok, though it seemed to be a variant of what was on the menu. Whatever, just happy to get some food and be on our way. Overall it was OK. They do happy hour and that would be a good way to check it out.
