Meijer was the only gas station operating three days after the tornadoes in Portage. They get 5 stars and then some for their efficient queuing system for the 40 minute wait in line to pump gas and the help and friendliness of their AMAZING employees. Although Meijer is already my favorite grocery store, they don't sit on their laurels but instead consistently work to improve and build upon their fantastic customer service. The ability to pump gas after the storm was a lifeline in the middle of a lot of chaos and destruction. Meijer stepped up to the plate and hit a home run once again. I did not think it was possible to get an undercooked( red meat on interior of chicken) yet it still be so over cooked when I go to remove a wing the bones comes right off. Came in today to pick up a Flashfoods order from customer service. Got a great deal on reduced bananas and yogurt that way. I did a circle around the whole store as well, just looking for bargains. Nothing really knocked my socks off. Prices are just a bit too high. Like a pound of Meijer lunchmeat is $9 but a pound of Aldi lunchmeat is $5.60. I have to say I've found the staff here consistently much friendlier than the Valparaiso store, especially with glitches I've run into with grocery pick up which have occurred at both. I definitely have to give it to Meijer on product selection. Sometimes you just can't find everything at Aldi. read more

If you are a collector of Lego do not shop at this location, I enjoy buying the big box sets and displaying the boxes unopened and I have had decided experiences at other Meijer stores in the past but I will never browse this spot again, I picked up a Lego Super Mario Diddy Kong's Mine Cart Ride experience set on discount, It was the last one they had so it was a instant grab, The box looked great no dents or creases and the person who put the security tag on didn't do it overall tight so that was good, The issue started at the register the guy was having a hard time getting the tag off so he's bending and pushing the box trying to get the dang thing off I felt my heart drop I had to look away and hope for the best, Normally I would have a outburst but I had both my kids there with me and my better half do not like it when I over reacted in front of the children so I was trying to behave myself, So we get checked out and does anyone else don't understand why they now have baggers? Because I don't like it at all, First of all you're telling me you now have more body's up front but still only two registers open it seems so unnecessary, And they can never put my stuff in the bags right it's always so floppy and then it never goes in the cart the right way again, I should have to walk up with a full cart of food and stuff just to walk away with a full cart and carrying three bags out in hand, But that's not the point right now, Getting back to the issue is I get out to my car not even 5 minutes go by and the first bag I put in the vehicle is the Lego set and the box pops open, It turns out the tape wasn't even attached correctly, Honestly my fist mistake was not double checking the tape on the box, But then my sweet heart of mine grabs the bag and the receipt and goes back in to return it as I get everything thing plus both kids, longer story long the Lady behind the survey counter accused us of opening it ourselves and taking stuff out of the box and refused the return, Asked her to check the cameras and she denied that stating there's no one there to do that and to come back tomorrow morning and talk with the manager if you got a complaint, Never again am I going back to this store. read more

I'd say at the very least 1 out of 4 times i grocery shop here i end up with something that expired prior to me purchasing it. Produce department had wilted spinach as well as other sub standard greens. Sushi selection was not good. The sub sandwich I bought had no meat on the ends, all in the middle. Someone just didn't give a crap putting it together and not much of it. Was hoping to eat in, like other Meijer delis, but had to quick check out so I could get something to eat to combat low blood sugar. Now I will go elsewhere to finish shopping. read more

Look, I just have to tell you that I met the best worker in the world at the Portage IN meijers store. And no, this is not a paid advertisement. It's just recognition of a store employee named Sidney. I was at the store, which was crowded, and had almost been run over by at least three people who like to use shopping carts as weapons? (You know the type). That had me thinking "so this is why God made guns," then out of nowhere this guy with this smile that lights up the place stops me and says "you definitely look like you could use some help." I said I was actually just trying to remember what I didn't have in groceries, and he probably couldn't help me unless he could read (very confused) minds. We talked a second, and he got me to laughing. Then I went on. I thought "I have to get his name so I can tell the manager how great he is" and went back to find him. There he was helping out this handicapped guy. Now, in all fairness, I ran into this same guy when I entered the store, and I would not label him as the happiest person on earth (understatement). But Sidney has him smiling and laughing as they spoke together -- which is really, really close to a miracle. Sidney is everything you want in a store employee anywhere. My mother and I went to buy some fish. We walked the back of the store and there was black mold all over the fish tanks. The fish that have their own containers were dirty and on the verge of death. This is horrible living conditions for the fish in general. This is completely horrible and wrong. The glass was completely filthy and almostimpossible to see through. Another example of the degradation of customer service in the country. Manager Danna V was among the worst customer relations handler from a management position that I can imagine. Rude, unreasonable and spouting off about the law both inaccurately and without a license to practice (oops - shouldn't do that to a lawyer....) A week ago, I went into this Meijer location at 10pm to purchase just ONE item, and didn't leave until 11pm. For ONE item. I went to the electronics section for a video game, knowing full well that I may have to wait a little while because it was 10:00 in the evening, but stood there waiting for 45 minutes. Employee after employee passed me up, juggling their Pepsi drinks and car keys, to go back and forth to their break room. No one assisted me. After nearly an hour, I decided to just ask for assistance, walked to the front of the store and before I could even enter the customer service area, an employee named, "Tina," said real snotty, "They're closed. Don't open again until 6 in the morning." I told her, "No one is in electronics and I'd like a video game. I waited for nearly an hour." she stops me mid-sentence yelling, "WHICH GAMMMMEE." She wasn't even working electronics. She didn't care what video game I wanted. She just wanted to patronize customers (which she later continued to do). So, "Tina," gets a manager who finally comes and gets a game for me. Another customer was in the area and the manager used that as an opportunity to say, "Let us know if you need help, sir, because no one is back here this time of night." No way.... You're kidding! While checking out at the cash register, employee, "Tina," was standing right there ( I was being checked out by someone else) and she looked at me and kept talking and talking and talking about the electronics section and God only knows what. I literally had to ignore her. Totally unprofessional. Unprofessional even for something as ubiquitous as Meijer. A ridiculous waste of time with some staff insisting on explaining away why YOU as a customer should be grateful anyone helped you at all... read more

Customer service is horrible. Don't bother calling them you will be on hold for awhile. Customer service desk in person will not do much better you will stand in line while they play on their phones. Let's talk about how they also don't restock anything. Don't get your hopes up. Covid also gave them a convenient reason to drastically shorten their business hours and lack of stocking as mentioned before. Overall a clean store. There is usually someone to help look for something if they aren't super busy and it isn't super late at night or early morning. Self checkout is horrible. I once waited 6min for an attendant to come validate my bag for one item! She can over like I hadn't been waiting in her forever. The normal checkout lane cashiers are always nice though. The produce section is usually good but I have come been there were all the strawberries out were old and some had some mold. And the entire grape section was old and smooshy. I also don't know if this is just a law but at night or early morning the liquor aisle is gated off, you can grab some beer and wine but the actual liquor is gated off. The customer service is terrible. The 2 times that I have requested a supervisor has resulted in me getting upset, being embarrassed and ending up crying. The first time was I was trying to use coupons from Coupons.com on a couple of items. He did everything but hold the coupons up to the light. He even got on his phone to see if they were legit. The second time was today, July 28th. I was having problems with my debit card and the cashier had to suspend the order. The worse thing that you can say to a customer is that you understand. No you don't. Just keep your mouth shut. Basically he didn't help me. I then grabbed my purse and the hamburger buns ALMOST hit an employee. She then threatens me by saying if that had hit me, I would have a problem. I told her to fuck off and she took a step towards me, the manager had to put a arm up to stop her. Can you believe that? she actually threatened me. I need to add that both times that I requested a supervisor has been the same guy. I think it's safe to say that he is a horrible supervisor. Went to Portage Indiana Meijer this morning. Had well over $200.00 in groceries.. No cashiers at all and forced to use self-check out. One person tending the self check out lanes. Half way through checking out i had 10 problems and each time had to wait for help. I gave up and just left everything where it sat in line and on counter. I will do the same every time i go there if there are any problems at self checkout. I think everyone should. You put cashiers out of work and leave the Borden on us. Dont offer us a discount for doing it our self's. Portage Meijors is the worst gorcery store in this area. read more

I like this location. During the TPocalypse of 2020, the store took care to put out a pallet of toilet paper every hour or so to try and be sure people had a chance at getting some. They were some of the first to set limits on items people were binge-buying. They saw that the issue was a stocking issue and quickly started closing overnight to restock, while being one of the first stores to offer hours for at-risk customers and essential employees. Hand sanitizer is available at the door, and carts are sanitized for your convenience and safety. The workers here wear their masks properly, covering their mouths and faces, which I have not seen at other stores. They also were one of the first stores to find alternative sources of sanitizer to sell to customers. They do run out of things at times, but unlike the big store across the road, they are pretty quick to restock most items. The majority of employees here are pretty friendly as well. I received the worst customer service today with Meijer and Shipt. I ordered through the store and was rudely harassed by the Shipt employee the store gave my order to. Not only did the store confirm my order and ensure I would receive my goods but they confirmed by phone they were in stock. Days later, no items in stock and a verbally aggressive text conversation with a delivery employee. Poor customer service and communication all around Portage Meijer. Very unimpressed. read more

Just left portage Meijer and saw virtually no social distancing, few masks, people pawing through produce bare-handed, no one sanitizing carts, and no one monitoring all the irresponsible and dangerous behavior. Most of the pharmacy staff is very rude! I also think management is useless, they always have someone else to blame! I am enrolled in the Meijers rewards program called Mperks. I bought a dress and had to return it because it was the wrong size and I used my mperks dollars that I earned for every $100. I spent I earned $2. I had a total of $6. in mperk dollars and when you return something you lose your mperk dollars!!!! When I complained to management, I was informed that they were not in charge of this program, to which I responded doesn't M in Mperks stand for Meijers??? This used to be the old Kmart. You know, the one that couldn't attract customers if they were giving the store away! Well now you can't find a parking sport anywhere near the front door. Nice and clean, but even thought it's remodeled. Meijer's are always this way. The associates were a bit confused as they still haven't figured out how to be polite, or awake! The produce department seems to be a bite dark. Needs more lighting if you want these old people to see what they are buying. Great store though and a nice alternative to the Wally World that never has anything on their shelves across the street. read more

There was an old lady today giving out free samples of tombstone pizza. When I tried to get a piece she told me I had to have a parent with me because I'm under 18. I am 21. She was really rude about the whole thing too and told me I look 16. Worst part was I was going to buy that pizza but after that I didn't. I've gone to bars before without being carded but I couldn't get a stinking free sample of pizza. read more

Very happy to have a Meijer in Portage. Shopping here is an enjoyable experience, starting with the opportunity to have a full-sized cart or one of their cute "mini' carts. The pharmacy and staff are extremely helpful and, as a Lipitor patient, the cost of the product at Meijer vs. Wally-world is amazing. Store is clean, friendly, well-lit and organized. Helpful associates and good product selections. Haven't run across anything that I wanted or needed that I couldn't find here. And while I can't put my finger on the exact cause, there is an upbeat, friendly feel in the store that I don't get at Wally-world. read more
