Customer service, terrible. I had an order for pickup, waited 45 minutes only to be told they gave my order to a different customer. They said they were too busy to shop my order again and I would have to return at a later time to pick up my order. I spoke with a team leader when I called the store(which took almost a half hour to even reach a person to talk to) only for this team leader to be unapologetic and unprofessional. He said they would do my order and would give us a gift card for the inconvenience when we return for our order. We came back to get our order, waited a half hour before finally asking an employee if our pick up order was ready yet. They brought it out but with no gift card, which the employee had no idea what gift card I was talking about. She went inside to ask about it, returned several minutes later and told me the team lead said he planned on bringing it out, but it would be a little bit because they're so busy. We waited another 20 minutes before just leaving because we were absolutely done waiting on this extremely unprofessional "team lead" who clearly doesn't care about upset customers. read more

I usually go to this walmart all the time to get my groceries and snacks.. for a couple weeks now I was trying to buy a gold chain in different jewelry stores... they were kinda expensive so I decided to take a look at the jewelry section on Monday night around 8:30 . So here i am so excited looking at this gold chain advertised as 22in, 10k, the lady who took care of me was nice and said it is a really pretty chain.. so here I go and spend $ 786.74 dlls. I was so excited about the chain so I paid for it at the customer service desk, I put it on in front of the cashier the lady that took care of me and a few more walmart employees... I went back to return it because after all the excitement I checked it out and it was not 22in.. it is 20 in... the tag said 10k and the chain by the clip has the mark as 14k... So I decided to take it back so I can get my money back because it was suspicious to me... the lady at customer call another person because it was not a cheap item so she had to double check with her boss about it.. so after 30 minutes one of the ladies is telling me that they don't sell that item at the store!!!... I was surprised because I had the receipt and the tag of the chain... at this time I was still calm but after they told me it was not the chain i bought i got really mad... they game me my receipt back but not the tag of the chain.. I asked to speak to the G.M. But they told.me he was busy and could not take care of me and situation. So how come that walmart has fake gold chains inside their store... I told them to check the cameras and check everything because obviously one of their employees switched that chain... I called corporate and they told me we are going to make the report about this situation but if the G.M. of that store don't want to do anything there is nothing else they can do... To me this is considered fraud . This was my Christmas present for myself... and it may not be a super expensive item but I paid for it and knowing walmart is a international corporation they will have at least something that is not fake... Like I said I always shop at this store and some.of the employees there know me not directly but they have seen me there several times. I went there today and asked to speak again to the G.M. and once again he was not there... this time he was gone for the day. I downloaded Yelp just to leave this review. Online pickup at this location has almost 30 spots, maybe more. Every spot was filled, there was a line of 10 more cars waiting for a pick up spot. It looked like a block party. People were out of their cars, trunks open, folding chairs out, people convening in the aisles, talking, gesturing wildly. No deliveries coming out. Not-a-one. Two gentlemen employees emerged with baskets and rolled diligently to cars that had been waiting, at least longer than the 45 minutes we had been waiting. Only to roll away. Without unpacking them into the vehicle. So we called the store. The front desk assured us no store manager was available, before handing us over to the front desk manager, who assured us he would come and review. We provided our name, hopeful he could rectify this. Ten minutes later, a cart rolls up to our car. A forlorn employee asks me my name, i inform him. His face drops, not my order. Likely the order of the occupant of spot 21 from well over an hour ago. We swap war stories, i express my concern for the escalating situation, he advises i can cancel my order online. Great idea, i try it, but no confirmation received. Well thats $250 from my account that's up in the air, great. My 4 year old in the back seat starts to whine and cry and ask for the chocolate milk that's a part of the order. So we decide to go in the store, surely face to face they have to address my concerns, maybe i can collect the order in person? Shop for the necessities quickly? Still get my kids in bed on time for school tomorrow? We go in and the front desk staff was supportive, but the situation is too far gone. The manager confirms my request for cancellation was received, but cannot provide confirmation it will even be accepted, let alone when my money will return to my account. A tug at my shirt, again "mommy, i want chocolate milk, a toy" Ok, we will call back in two hours to confirm the cancellation, let's get what we need and get out. Nope. The store, disorganized, i understand, being renovated. But wow. What a mess. Chocolate milk? I never even made it. Went to Meijer across the street. Highly recommend, they were lovely. read more

Not a fan of Walmart at all, but I do have to go here at times. When I do I try to go to the one in Portage. The one in Valpo is so poorly stocked my family refers to it as "the out-of-stock store". As I visit Portage Walmart more I see their stock is getting worse. Maybe others are avoiding Valpo too. Ha! We have pretty much dwindled our Walmart shopping to once every month or 2. Went in for one item which they had. Manager who helped was wonderful. An off clock greeter promptly came up at check out and started distracting and trying to pet my service dog with clear no pet patches as well as clear service dog patches. Very disappointed in the staff. Needs training that you do not distract or try to pet a working sd without permission. Then had the gall to ask if I minded people petting and distracting her while she's working. I placed an order this morning for online grocery pickup. My window was 4-5 pm. I got a text at 4 that my order was going to be delayed 2 hours.. smh. Fast forward to 4:49, I get a text that the order is ready. I get my baby in his car seat and head to the store. I got to the store at 5:25, checked in, and patiently waited. As I was pulling into the lot, most of the 35 spaces were full. I had never seen over 5 people picking up at once so I thought that was really odd. Around the 1 hour and 30 minute mark, I called the store. Asked to speak to a manager, yes, please hold. The same employee picks up the phone and asks if it's about once grocery pick up. I say yes..? And they once again put me on hold. I got tired of waiting and my baby was getting upset so I hung up. Called corporate and they were unapologetic and unhelpful. They suggested I go to customer service to get my order.. Why would I do that? I ended up leaving without my groceries ticked off. I ended up cooling down and calling corporate again and was able to get a full refund. For my inconvenience, they gave me a $20 gift certificate code for my next purchase. Thanks but no thanks Walmart. You lost a loyal customer. read more

Dear Walmart, Two days in a row now I've walked out of your store without purchasing anything. Day one, went in to get some automotive supplies. Went to go to checkout and the lines were SO long that I just couldn't afford to wait 30 minutes to check out. You seriously have some of the slowest cashiers I've ever seen in all my years of working and shopping retail. They seem to inspect every item they scan as though it were some amazing new invention they've never seen before in all their years. I suggest hiring some sloths. They would get the job done faster. I put my items on a nearby shelf and walked out. I loathe doing that from my days on your side of the register, but I'd never run one of my stores in such a way so I can't force myself to regret my actions. Day two. I break down and go back to purchase aforementioned auto supplies, and to replace a pair of jeans I ripped. I go to the women's clothing section, expecting to find easy to shop shelves with folded jeans divided by size and style. To my dismay, I find that you've made the catastrophic decision to turn simple shopping for clothing into a scavenger hunt from hell. Rounders full of junior sizes are mixed in with women's sizes, styles mixed together, and the rounders are spread over what seems like way too much space. Again, I just don't have 45 minutes to shop for a few pairs of jeans. I have things to do. So, again, I walk out. Fix this nonsense. I don't care how you do it...allot more hours to your employees, retrain the entire staff, bulldoze the whole shebang and start over, or hire some sloths as per my suggestion. Just fix it. I find it convenient, for Walmart, that their online survey isn't working towards the end of my bad review. So here it is on Yelp. They need more handicapped carts since they are such a high volume store. I have really bad fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis in my spine and hips. I am barely able to walk into the store... so I asked the Greeter, Felicia, if there were any carts on wheels. (I have problems thinking due to my pain and sensory disorder) and she responded to me in a harsh expectant tone and looked at me harshly, "Carts on wheels? What are you talking about???" Finally I was able to find the word, "Handicap." I am smiling and tying to be as nice as I can while feeling scared. And she doesn't even smile, "No, there are no carts. You will have to walk to the other side of the store and see if there are any there." Normally this is when a greeter asks another employee to look for a cart for me, or they go get it themselves. I AM BARELY ABLE TO WALK! I have little muscle in my butt and legs!!! So I nod and smile, and waddle and sit down on a bench inside the store and try not to cry. I sit there for 15 minutes. Went there with my sister (who is a single mom of my four year old niece)- we go to check out around 9pm. After pacing up and down once to check for open aisle, we see all that's open is "self checkout". So we start scanning stuff, with a tired tot and both not want to scan or bag, it was obvious that we wanted a clerk to handle it. As this is going on, two middle aged women are standing about 6" from us. We had about $300 worth of Easter merch and groceries and the little one was wearing out fast. Long story short, these to broads policed the hell out of us, asking "make sure you scan 'xyz'" the entire time. Then at the end, one of them got extremely close and snatched the receipt-commenting "I don't see that cat food on here". After a big deal is made, she finally acknowledges the obvious cat food charge towards the top of the receipt and we scurried out of there. Ugh. read more

What a zoo of cheap disorganized stuff. I needed a few groceries while my oil got changed. I dont reguarly get it done here. I paid 80 for wipers and oil. Then proceeded to exit. the cashier unlocked the door, but it wouldnt open. The then asked to see a receipt for my items. (even though my dog food is more expensive... I had paid for all items at the front of the store to prevent delays in the packed auto department) my gf and myself dropped all our stuff to search for a receipt at the packed door open ing of the auto center. after I found the receipt. the cashier only check for the crockpot....a 20 dollar item. i showed her a reciept for shampoo i bought at the store. she said it wasnt from the store...really??? the hair salon not a part of store??? nor the items i am holding I magically aquired?? I was extremely offended, and somewhat embarrassed as I was called out around other customers. why couldn't this be brought up when I paid for the oil? Rude. the automotive techs were great though. I usually avoid Walmart, but needed a few things while I gor my oil changed. now I understand why I NEVER shop there. Go to meier across the street. On December 3rd (midnight shift) I went to this Portage Walmart to purchase a $200.00 Christmas tree as a gift for a family member. The stock person was VERY professional and helpful. He even looked for the Christmas tree with me and when we couldn't find it, said he would find the manager. Well, we found the manager and she was very unprofessional and hurried because apparently I was interrupting her obnoxiously loud conversation she was having with her employee, "What time you'd get here?!!!!" The guy who helped me said, "This customer has a question about the Christmas trees," and she didn't even let me ask my question! She looked at me and bluntly stated, "Whatever we got we got back there." Her unprofessionalism as a manager was both surprising and unfortunate. I am tired of going to Walmart, spending hundreds of dollars to be questioned at the door about where my receipt is. They have cameras and can see that I bought everything. Then you can never find help unless it's in the electronics (which usually those workers are very good). They put a price up on an endcap and when I went to buy it, they said it was the wrong price. The cashiers don't speak half the time. The prices are getting too high and they're constantly out of stock. I've been going elsewhere and I won't be spending my money there anymore. Don't ever go to the tire and lube. Me and 5 other guys say there from 830 in the morning till about 1 until my car was done getting oil changed. They were still stuck there. I was there for oil and rotate. Didn't even get the rotate and I was there 4.5 hours. Absolutely horrible service. Shop was even empty for almost an hour while we were there. But as soon as I had store manager pages they magically started pulling cars in to shop. Spent most of my day off there. I clocked the oil change time when my car got in. had all 4 of my tires replaced at the portage IN store about and put about 6,000 miles on them. I took my car in to have the front tires checked because they are bald. I was told that I could not get any thing in return because there was a little inside wear on r/s front tire. I was told that this is an alignment issue and both tires now are now considered bad from this. I told them I would take it to an alignment shop of their choosing and if they said the alignment was good could I get something back. I was told no, because the manager said it was an alignment issue and that was that. I then spoke to the manager who stated that they are not qualified to inspect the front end to find issue (?But they are qualified to state car has an alignment issue?) he told me it was from not rotating my tires in time because the back tires are still great -- I made him look up the tire life since bought - 6,000 and some change he then could not tell the recommended tire rotation mileage other then every other oil change (this works out to be about 6000miles) I told him fine the right side maybe a suspension issue but the l/s should be covered. he stated no, front end issue voids both. I am a mechanic by trade and know this is not true (on tire wear, not their ignorance that they admitted but insist on standing by -- need less to say learned my lesson and will never by tires from Walmart again when we were done with this conversation they were more than excited for me to take my business else where. After I explained that I am coming from out of town their tune changed to well...we can do it after 3. Well that won't work as my party is at 12:00. Not really a fan of ANY Walmart stores! This one, however, is one of the cleanest out there. Everything is well placed and organized. Only downfall to going here are the checkout lines. No matter what time of day you go, there are never enough registers open and there are always long lines. I don't think I've ever been able to get through a line in less than a half hour.
