One of the last anchor department store left at Southlake Mall. Online shopping has been the detriment of shopping malls. JCPenney or "Penney's" as I recall from my childhood still has a good selection of merchandise in every category or department. They seem to have a clearance section in every department which has deals up to 70% off. It is nice to go to brick and mortar stores to actually see the merchandise and put your hands on it. Actually walking around and shopping seems to be more rewarding than sitting on your couch or in front of your computer and shopping online. read more

Such a nice store in a nice mall. It's sad to see department stores going away. Glad to see them open & doing business. Great selection of clothes for the whole family. They have a photographer available for appointments. A hair salon too! Small appliances, shoes & slippers, fine jewelry. Some furniture, luggage, cookware. Pretty much anything else for your home. Even a Sephora inside the store. read more

I stopped in here with my dad the other week to do some Christmas shopping and wow did they get cleared out the week before Christmas. Which was great to see, as I hope they stay in business. It's been almost 20 years since I was last here, so it was nice to come back home and go to one of my old favorite stores. Def a staple at the mall for sure. read more

I like this JCPenney Store. They have a huge selection of women's clothing ranging from casual to dressy. My favorite thing about them is that I can find petrified sizes here, not easy to find elsewhere. I also love their Liz Claiborne clothes (also in petite). Nice assortment of Levi's for boys and men here too. My daughter loves the Arizona brand. This particular store is huge and I can always seem to find something. They also have a big clearance section. Down side: perfume!!! I hate it. I am repulsed by the smell when I walk in. It triggers migraines, and I have to walk quickly past this area and try not to inhale the nasty toxins. Since they will never do away with the perfume counter, I wish JCPenney would place it near the back of the store so all patrons would not be subjected to the fumes upon entering the store. It really is hazardous to the health of many people. read more

Some JCPenney stores seem to be awesome, good, and total junk. This is one of the awesome ones! I love going into a JCPenney further away from the malls I normally frequent (Hawthorn Mall and Woodfield Mall) and think "Oh wow! They don't have this by me!". The plus size section is massive compared to anything I've seen elsewhere. I ended up getting some great jewelry, a nice sweater, and some new jeans. This store was really nice. Merrillville is about an hour and a half drive. So, if I'm looking to do an all day shop-a-thon, I would gladly come back here! read more

I went into Penney's today to look for a winter coat. I was overwhelmed by the huge selection-even in the Big and Tall department. I found a beautiful coat for $140.00, but it was on sale for 40% off! That's a huge savings for late October-going into the winter season. When I got to the register, the clerk (I believe her name was Sandra) was able to give me an additional 25% off if I applied for a JCP credit card. I don't usually use credit cards, but I got this one, just to save on the coat. I ended up paying less than $70 for a coat that would have been $150 if I paid full retail for it. I want to stress that the best part of the experience was that I had OPTIONS when selecting a winter coat. It's often hard to find clothes in my size at a regular retail outlet (I'm 6'3", 235 pounds), so it was refreshing to have a choice rather than to just settle on the only thing that fits. read more

Everyone is here today Holiday shopping. The register lines are moving quickly. The SALES are awesome. Boots for under $25... tops at 60% off. Husband funny t-shirts $5 each. The fitting rooms need extra help the place is packed with shoppers, so I imagine it is hard to keep up. Clearance stuff is like 60% off with an additional 60% off at register. Can you say BIG savings I bought so much and did not go over budget. Nothing beats a brick and mortar store where you can touch items, compare items quickly, try things on and get friendly customer service. I might just be old school, but this is the way to shop. They even have shopping carts in store for hands free shopping. Their Disney section has so many gift ideas and I found pricing less then the disney store and items disney store did not have. The have the hot hatchamals and lol surprise dolls too. Grab you list and head over ! read more

I took my 3 month old to the Studio to get his first pictures and spent over $200 on photos that came out great in the digital images but the prints we received were HORRIBLE! After complaining about it to Lifetouch I was told they couldn't do anything due to the shadows and that I could schedule another appt.( at no charge) I said no took my digital print to my local Walgreens and printed out images that came out better then the ones from LifeTouch! If you go here just pay for the digital prints DO NOT order from the studio! So disappointed. read more

I went to the salon and the girl cut 7 inches off of my hair and I asked for 3 inches. When she was cutting she said "oh yeah it's going to be really short." My hair was very long. Now I look like lord Farquad. I needed my hair done three times to hide it because she had messed up my layers making it even worse. My one length hair was cut uneven and I look super ugly and it's disturbing. Do not go to the salon unless you know the person cutting your hair and have seen them cut hair before. I had to go a second time and get it fixed since everything was so uneven. Then I had to dye my hair because it just didn't blend out well from the first haircut. I am living a nightmare because that first lady did not know how to cut thick long hair AT ALL. read more

I always shop here and I usually find something I like. Their petite selections are pretty nice and the prices are reasonable. They also usually have good sales in comparison with Kohl's which I also shop at alot. read more

I cannot be more disappointed in J C Penney. What has happened to this company? Ordered online 2 weeks ago for in store pickup, yet have heard nothing. Called today and no apology. I was told that 2 of the 3 items are at the store and ready to be returned. I told the Customer service lady that even Walmart would 1) email or call the items were in . 2) Offer to ship the 3rd item because you didn't send it to the store, I do not live near the store and am extremely tired of J C Penney. This is the first time I've been to this location. It was a disaster! I understand it was a Saturday right before most of the schools in the area are starting after summer break, but clothes were thrown everywhere and it wasn't organized at all! The checkout lines were very long but they did have 3 cashiers working at one location. I like their clothes and their prices are not bad so I will probably give them another chance. read more
