    Mei Mei restaurant

Auntie Liz! Aka Chef Elizabeth Haigh, my family and I are visiting London from California, we of course had to check out Mei Mei based on following Uncle Roger and boy do I have words to share! Your staff is incredible! Due to the rail strike and London "rush hour" we were late getting to Mei Mei, literally 5 minutes to 17:00, and your staff today May 9th, 2024 still made us some food and a few drinks. THANK YOU! I'd been dying to try this place since I first saw Uncle Roger work for you here, and all I can say is I've never had fried chicken like this, and that garlic and green onion sauce is legit! Didn't get to meet you, but please thank Uncle Roger for brining you on his channel, we wouldn't have found you from the states if it weren't for that, and a HUGE thank you to the Staff! I hate being that person to come at close and you were all awesome! My son also loved his Iced Bandung as well! You should open shop in the SF/Bay Area, your cuisine would be most welcome there!

Decided I had to try this place for myself on my London trip after seeing it on Uncle Roger's YouTube channel. To my chagrin, they did not have egg fried rice (haiyaa). So I went with fried chicken and rice. Oh my dear heaven, this was perfectly cooked in every way and perfectly flavored. I fell in love. If I lived in London I would seriously try to get here every day. Thank you, Uncle Roger, for influencing my vacation.

I was walking past the stand in Borough Market and the Kaya Toast caught my eye. The picture reminded me of Japanese milk bread and I got an instant craving. This specific dish has buttered toast with a caramelized coconut milk jam spread. The flavor here was actually very good and it was delicious. The price, for what it is, was a little high for me and the bread wasn't very thick as compared to the image which is fine. I'd go back and try a different dish for sure.

How often do you get to eat food from a Michelin star chef? Heard about this, so had to visit the Borough Market. We ordered curry, haianese chicken, nemi lemak, fried chicken. Overall, the flavors were good. Perhaps I had elevated expectations, but I was fully expecting to be "wow-ed". I wasn't. But it was still good. If you're in the area, it's worthy of a visit.

Pandan soda + Hainanese chicken rice

I came here for lunch, and I thought my food was just ok. I ordered the Hainanese chicken rice with the consommé, and I can get better in California. I also thought it was outrageous to have to pay for the consommé. In the States, it automatically comes with it. That being said, their consommé was really salty! The chicken also could have used more flavor. But I really did not like their ginger sauce. It was so strong and not balanced at all. But what I did really like was their pandan soda. I had never had that before, and it was bomb!

I hate to say it, but this sweet little stand isn't what it once was. The quality of food, service, and ambiance has really gone down. I used to love coming for their Kaya Toast which is (supposed to be) a decadent piece of toast with a sweet and creamy butter slathered in between. While still pretty toasty, the filling is lacking in both flavor and decadence; for £6.50 you're definitely not getting your money's worth. The rest of the menu is limited to a few rice bowls and signature tea and coffee drinks that fare little better than the toast. And, since they went full-on interactive with the ordering screens, you definitely won't be chatting up the staff who barely glance your way, let alone smile at you. Given the multitude of stalls and restaurants in the area, I really don't know how these guys have stayed in business with this level of quality and service, but you could definitely do better. Luckily, you won't have to walk far for it.

Came to this spot in Borough market with a large group, and we ordered a bunch of dishes to share. The dishes were flavorful and delicious; I particularly enjoyed the chicken and the prawns (although these might get messy to eat!). The seating situation isn't that great and we had to cram some wobbly tables together, but would recommend stopping by if you'd like to try some Singaporean food.

We just had to check out Mei Mei because of all the hype created by Uncle Roger's youtube channel. While everything seems to be expertly prepared, it wasn't really the taste I was used to for Singaporean food. There are so many great Singaporean locations in London and this one was a bit off compared to the rest. While I'm sure many appreciate the flavours at Mei Mei, I didn't like it. We got the Hainan chicken and rice and the taste was very earthy. The sauce was very herbal and a turn off. The ginger tasted a bit fermented and old, which had a very strong flavor. I'm sure this is a taste craved by many in the area but because it was so different than the Singaporean taste I've had up until my experience at Mei Mei, can't say I was a fan here.

    Sayur Lemak & Chicken Rice
    Inez L.

This place was absolutely delicious. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. The flavors are amazing- full of depth and perfectly warm, even on a colder night. We had the Sayur Lemak, which was perfection, the mixed satay, and the Stir Fried Greens. The Sayur Lemak is a delicious tofu curry with lots of well seasoned vegetables. The satay has a lot of flavor and the sauce was yummy. The stir fried greens are perfectly seasoned with garlic and reminds me of how my own family makes the same choy. This reminded us of home and warmed up our stomachs and our hearts. Highly recommend coming if you can!!!

Great hainan chicken at london's outrageous price. Still coming here to eat though, since hainan chicken in London is like finding a hidden gem on its own.

Haienise chicken and rice was incredible ! The coconut butter breakfast toast was superb! They have limited seating but it you go at night when the market is closed ... they actually have a good set of tables to eat on ... a lot of the kiosks are closed . More room to eat! Highly recommend this place in Borough Market

Employee who places the chicken on rice with his bare hands.

Great food but disgusting handling. I hope the owner can hire better employees to handle the food, which itself tastes wonderful. The guy in the photo grabs the chicken with his BARE hands and places it on top of rice; he also sprinkles the cilantro with his bare hands. We ate at the booth and I watched with disgust as he grabs chicken, uses his phone, scratches his arm, and touches the cashier all with the same bare hands (without washing before touching food). There are gloves on the counter which the other servers properly use, but the guy in this photo does NOT use gloves each time. Keep an eye on how your food is handled if you come here.

Mei Mei is truly one of my favorite sports at Borough Market. They specialize in Singaporean food and it's all absolutely amazing. I lived fairly close to Borough so I'd always walk there for a cheeky lil kaya toast and teh. I also enjoyed their chicken rice. So simple yet tasty

I was a complete supper-club virgin...until "Plus-Six-Five" deflowered me!…read more I had heard about this supper club through the grapevine and then decided to gather a few friends and try it out. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure what to expect: who are these people who invite complete strangers into their homes and cook up a storm for them? Don't they have their own friends, who they can invite? What if this is a trap and they hold us ransom and ask for a shit-load of money to let us free again? - Well, turns out that all my suspicions and concerns were thrown over-board, once I entered the Goz's flat (Goz, by the way, is the host of this Singaporean Supper Club.) We were seated immediately and started nibbling on the spicy appetizers that were placed in front of us. Soon the room filled up with other strangers just like us and, while in the beginning it was certainly a little awkward, the common experience of this awkwardness made us bond rather quickly and soon we were chatting away with our fellow supper-clubians. To be honest, I can't remember what kind of dishes were served up, but I do remember that all of them were excellent - especially a meat dish, that had stewed away for a few days apparently. At the end of the night, we were in for two more treats: 1) we tried home-made macaroons by a local amateur-pastry chef and 2) we experienced coffee from a Singaporean coffee-roastery; the owner himself poured the coffee for us, explaining various intricate details about the bouquet along the way... Overall, I truly enjoyed my first time...and I can almost say that since then I've been to another supper club and I've already lined up two more. Their flavors for the most part were right, portions are small, and prices are high which contrasts for its norm, since this is street food in Singapore which would cost 3-6$ a plate. Would recommend a more Peranakan decor to make this place feel like Bugis in Singapore. Hainanese chicken rice- good chicken, soup was way too salty that it was nota drinkable at all. Rice was right flavor but wrong texture. Maybe the certain rice can't be found in UK. Seafood Chow fun- I was actually impressed with the chow fun part that charred part and the oily noodles that require high heat and high oil to make it that texture. this dish was good. Would highly recommend it. Chinese leaf- just dressed up Napa cabbage but well done. Salt and pepper shrimp were also not bad The hakkien mee was good but was a little sweeter than what I remembered from Singapore. Overall an ok place- If you've not had Singapore food before this is a good pricy intro to what's ahead.
