The lady at the front is very nice, polite and friendly. the food was prepared for us very quickly and it was close to closing. the food was amazing, fresh and one of the best Chinese food I've had. I really recommend trying Mei's out and once you do you will not want to go to any other restaurant! read more

Went in, haven't been for years. Only 3 tables available for dine in. We were the only customers there. Other half of restaurant has boxes and a make shift wall. Doesn't give a good vibe. Upon entering we were informed there were no functioning toilets. I would think this is a public health issue. We left not 2 min after entry. We won't be back. read more

If I could give it zero stars I would. They sent me the wrong food and told me to deal because I ordered through a delivery app. They charged me $4 to nit put meat in with the veggies. Overall terrible service and subpar food. It's in your best interest to take your business elsewhere. read more

Tasty Canadian Chinese food - not authentic Chinese, but exactly what we were craving for takeout. We got the "Dinner for 4(A)", which could easily feed 5-6 people - so much food! We subbed egg rolls for the spring rolls - the egg rolls were peppery and delicious. Loved the "chicken, vegetables & almonds" - light tasting, and lots of broccoli and sweet peppers, not just onion and celery like at some other places. "Sweet & sour spareribs" were meaty, not fatty. Chicken fried rice was basic - just rice with bits of chicken. "Sweet & sour chicken balls" were standard - but included 12 large balls in the order. Only disappointment was that "chow mein" at Mei King is bean sprouts based (aka "chop suey"), NOT noodles as expected; if you want noodles, here they call it "lo mein". Mary and I have enjoyed the food at Mei King for the pat 30 plus years. Yes some days better then other? Certainly, but more often then not the food and service, dine in or take out has been a strong four star. Yesterday we we picked up dinner for four and the dishes were were enough to feed six. The young man that served us doubled bagged all the food without us requesting it. He Was very polite and appreciative of our business. Nothing special. Would have rather gotten Chinese takeout from a mall food court. We ordered Cantonese veggie lo mein and 'dragon and Phoenix' ( general tao chicken and shrimp) ... the noodles were nothing special. For the meat dish, instead of chicken they gave us pork! Literally tasted just like sweet and sour pork. The shrimp was not general Tao style but just stir fried with veggies not worth $15! Save your money and get Chinese takeout from another place. Extremely unsatisfied with my last visit. Had been in the past with my parents to have a decent meal (before the Margaret bridge closure). Went on Sunday night with my boyfriend to get Shrimp Egg Foo Yung, General Tao chicken, and Vegetables with almonds - cashier had a hard time understanding our bill payments and seemed uninterested in our business. We got home and ate the food, it tasted alright. I woke up in the middle of the night with severe stomach pain, making me throw up all morning, as well as my boyfriend. Not interested in food poisoning. So disappointed - we will never be returning. read more

Tried Mei King after my fave Chinese Takeout place (King Wok) was torn down for the Weber St construction. By comparison, the food at Mei King is terrible. The Singapore Style noodles had a weird powdery texture, and everything else lacked flavour or was somehow off. I've only had takeout, so I can't comment on the ambiance. Go to Lai Lai's or anywhere else instead. read more

Love the lemon chicken, the food is much better since the new owners took over, the place still looks a little tired but they are working on it, Their lunch specials are under $10 their special combination plates range from $8 to $10 they also have family dinner combos for 1 to 10 people.the most expensive item on the open menu is $12 portions were good food was tasty and the waitress/ owner was friendly and helpful and definitely wanted to please all of her customers.A vast improvement under the new ownership. read more

Not impressed. The hot and sour soup was terrible, the black pepper chicken was all veg and hardly any chicken. It isn't expensive but isn't cheap either so I expected better. The people were really nice but I doubt I'll try it again. read more

I do like their Seafood Chow Mein (very good with very subtle taste with thin white sauce) and Ma Bo Tofu, but the place is unreasonably cold in the winter time (Try going to the basement bathroom - You would freeze your bu*t off!) and some other dishes we ordered weren't very warm for some reason. Terrible Food and Terrible Service -- In my work and social activities I frequent a great variety of restaurants. My dinner companion and I decided to try the Mei King Restaurant for a 6:15 pm Thursday dinner. At the time we arrived the restaurant was quiet with very few customers being served. My guest and I each ordered a Lemon Chicken combination plate together with a single serving of Sweet-and-Sour Chicken Balls to share. A bottle of wine was ordered at the same time. The lemon chicken that arrived to our table as a poorly-presented, deep-fried (to a rubberized crisp), cross-slashed, bland-tasting slab smothered in a yellow-coloured sauce (that did not taste lemony, at all). The spring roll was not much better. Almost fifteen minutes after the lemon chicken made its way to our table, our side of sweet-and-sour chicken arrived. Like the lemon chicken, it was over-fried and bland tasting. We had to flag our waitress several times during the course of our dinner to bring the bottle of wine that we had ordered. At no time was any water offered. Each time we flagged our waitress (who I think may be one of the restaurant owners) she kept saying that it would only be another minute for our wine. However, that minute dragged on for most of our 90-minute stay; during which time our waitress kept focusing on fully serving newer arrivals. When our unopened bottle of wine finally arrived to our table it came with a drinking glass that was dirty and heavily stained with dishwasher residue (we eventually had to get up to fetch our own clean drinking glass). Making matters worse is that our late-arriving wine bottle did not stay at our table. It was carried away by our waitress for an extended period of time because she could not manage the simple twist top (she declined my offer to help with the bottle). What eventually returned to our table were two, half-sized decanters that were hastily filled with a wine that did not resemble what we had ordered.
