Food is reasonably good. it's a small quaint place that seats maybe about 30. I had the garlic nan, mango lassi, rice and chicken curry masala. It tasted more authentic. I like spicy food but i got the medium flavor which was hot but it lacked the flavor I was looking for. Unfortunately they had to heat up my food in the microwave which kind of takes away from getting something hot off the stove. I do recommend this place and I will be back. read more

Looks like it's been nearly 6 years since I reviewed this place, which is crazy. I'm still going here, and even ate in twice for lunch (they've got great lunch specials) in their modest little restaurant. I still prefer takeout, though, and I use all the T-Mobile Tuesdays Restaurant.com $25 off $50 coupons. Mehak seems to be on pretty much every single delivery/takeout app/coupon thing so they've really got their name out there. The food is always ready to go in about 30 min from placing the call to order, made to order piping hot, and they give you a reminder call to pick up your food if you haven't arrived within 30 min. Nice touch on service. Pro tip: be sure to download the Belly app and check in on Belly whenever you're here. There was SO MUCH food, literally enough for 3 meals for me. The lamb mushroom masala was spicy, rich, flavorful, and the lamb was fall-apart tender. The chicken naan was okay, not my favorite naan but mostly just because it was stuffed with chicken so it was a little more moist then I realized it would be. The kheer was perfect - I could eat that all day, every day. I ordered a side of rice but realized I didn't need to since the lamb came with rice. For many years this was the overflow Indian spot for Breads of India across the street. I can say with certainty that the best development for Mehak's business was the closing of Breads of India from a fire earlier this year. I only first tried it after Breads of India closed, but I should have tried it earlier. Its quite good. Great food quality for the price. They had a $3.99 lunch special, which has a wide choice of curries and it comes with naan and rice. I got the chicken tikka masala and it was very good. An easy 8 out of 10. Wow, this place really came through for me. Yesterday I called a little before they opened and asked if I could get enough food for 12 people. Even though they first quoted me an hour, I really needed the food asap and they came through!! I ordered 10 different dishes along with 12 pieces of bread and we had WAY too much food. I also used Groupons 30% cash back deal so it was less than $10 a person. The food was really delicious and generous. They provide free saffron rice (which lots of places don't anymore), and my favorite was their saag paneer (the spinach paneer). I was disappointed with the lack of meat in the curries (coconut lamb and chicken tikka masala), but honestly, the service and flavor and abundance of the food made up for it. The people who work here are super kind. I regret not tipping (since I usually don't for takeout), but I wish I had because they really helped me out of a clutch situation. I'm not sure if their ingredients or chef has changed, but the food is SO GOOD. Perfect amount of spices and the consistency is on point and nothing is over or undercooked. Over the course of a couple of moths I've been here I can without a doubt say the quality of the food isn't that great. I'd much rather go to Bread's of India. I've placed a few Uber Eats orders here for pick up and every time there was trouble when attempting to pick up the order. In one instance I was handed the wrong order and almost left the restaurant with something drastically different. We were seated right away, service was fine, and the meal was delivered fairly quickly. 5 Stars may be a little high as I am not a culinary critic, but we adore Indian cuisine and were very pleased. We had a fish tandoor, lamb saag, veggie masala, chana masala, and mushroom mutter. Only the last dish was a tad disappointing, few mushrooms in it, but all the other portions were satisfactory. In a city chalked full of some of the best Indian food around, this one falls very short. The place was empty all through dinner, which is already a bad sign. The waitress/hostess/bus lady seemed really unhappy at her job. The papadum was the cheap brand that goes stale in minutes. The rice had definitely been sitting around for a while. Of all the Indian restaurants I've tried in and around Berkeley, I've found Mehak Indian Cuisine to be best. I've tried several different lamb and chicken dishes here, as well as vegetable dishes, and found the meats to always be perfectly cooked, with each sauce remarkably nuanced and flavorful. The garlic chicken is delightful, as are the Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken, Coconut Lamb, and Lamb Tikka Masala dishes. I first tried Mehak Indian Cuisine for lunch, and was delighted by the reasonably priced entrees with generous portion sizes. The service is consistently friendly, fast, and competent, and I've loved every dish I've tried here so far. I especially appreciate how when ordering the waiter or waitress thoughtfully inquires which level of heat I'd like: mild, medium, or spicy. I prefer mild, since I don't handle spicy all that well, and mild is exactly right for me. This restaurant has a cozy ambiance, with an atmosphere that is perfect for actually hearing conversation with other people in your dining party. Been ordering here for several years. The last several times the delivery has literally taken an hour and a half when we've been quoted half that time. I get that they don't want to turn away business because they are super busy and nobody is going to wait that long for a delivery order - especially one placed at 8pm. That said, it's just not cool to show up 30 minutes before I go to bed with luke warm food. I'm seeing now (on Yelp) other reviewers having the same problem. I actually have no problem with the food itself. The portions are good and we generally order the same thing every time. However, this is our last order as there's plenty of options in town for indian food that will actually show up when they say they will. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice (actually more like 6 times now) shame on me. Updated to include that we just called to find the status of our order (placed at 8pm) an hour and half later and they decided to cancel our order after they stated that they had already delivered the order. Mehak is one of those places that grows on you. I first went there with a friend for some Tikka Masala and it was a great meal for the price. The staff is friendly and the service is terrific. The lunch special is unbeatable. 5 dollars for Tikka Masala with rice and naan. I want to explore the menu more but I'm hooked on the masala! read more
