This is some the best sushi outside of Japan. Great choice, very fresh, and larger than normal portions. Don't miss!

We had purchased the groupon for this place, as have several other reviewers. Unfortunately we did not share the positive experience that they did. We drove an hour to get there and it was the biggest waste of our time and money. To start, the waiting staff doesn't speak english, or at least pretends not at their convenience. The size of the orders, and quantities of sushi was not at all explained. So we ordered according to the usual small size of sushi at most establishments. As the first orders started to come out, incredibly large sushi rolls, filled almost entirely with rice and almost no seafood except for fake crab came out. We realized right away that this was much larger than standard sushi and informed our waiting staff that we wanted to cancel the rest of the order, or at least whatever hadn't already been made. It was at this point that they nodded and seemed to understand. We began to enjoy the food, which was average in quality, nothing exceptionally good or bad about it. Everything seemed fine, we already had enough food. Except 10 minutes later they came out with the next order that we thought had been cancelled. We again requested that the rest of our order be cancelled as the amount of food on the table was already more than enough. At this point the manager came out and they then informed us that everything was already made and waiting in the kitchen, including 2 teriyaki dishes, which they wouldn't cancel, but would only give us to go. This would seem almost reasonable in some ways except that this last order had already taken 10 minutes to come out and the additional orders including the teriyaki weren't ready for another 20 minutes. By the end of the meal the amount of food left uneaten on the table was embarrassing. We ended up taking 3 large take out boxes completely full of food home with us. So if this wasn't enough, when the bill came, we had already told them we were paying for part of the bill with our groupon, the waitress grabbed the groupon from us and flashed it to the manager in front of the restaurant and humiliated us as though we were second class citizens for using groupon. We will never go back here again, and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

I sat down with my date, and we placed our drink orders. They were promptly brought, along with a HOT FREAKING TOWEL OF MAGIC AND LOVE that we used to clean up with. A delicious soup was also brought out WITHOUT US ASKING that we sipped while we perused their SUSHI MENU OF INFINITE DESTINY. They have quite a selection. My date and I ordered a roll each, and considered ordering more. That is until the GOLDLY ROLLS OF GRATUITOUS BOUNTY were presented. Quite majestically I might add. While some sushi restaurants are content with calling a volcano roll a volcano roll and calling it a day, Megumi's was stacked and covered in spicy tuna. I ATE A MOUNTAIN OF SUSHI WITH SPICY TUNA LAVA. There was plenty of food for us both, with barely enough room for tempura ice cream which was also very good (sorry, food coma is setting in, losing steam). All in all great experience. I wouldn't dream of docking a star, but I will say my dinner could have been improved if they hadn't been playing Christian pop music. I seriously didn't even know it still existed and honestly didn't need the reminder. Regardless, I've found my new favorite sushi restaurant. read more

Great hole in the wall to get sushi. There are so many rolls to choose from, you definitely will not go home hungry. Me and my wife frequently go about once every two weeks. The wait staff is nice, fast and there is usually no wait to get in. Me and my wife always get the Drew Bree's roll, snow crab naratu and the blt roll. read more

The Best Sushi I have had in my Entire Life! The Menu is the most colorful and largest one I have ever seen! The portions are massive, and the most afford for the quality they serve. Every time I am there I feel like I'm being served like a king! I have been known to spend $70 on just sushi there before. The greatest thing about the sushi masters is that they are not bound just by the enormous menu they can also be creative and make you stuff off the menu! Don't eat here! I ate here a couple years ago and wasn't impressed. I didn't return until last night when 7 of my friends were dining there. Of the eight, 6 didn't eat raw. Two of us had raw salmon and we were both up all night sick! The roll didn't even taste good! The portions were large, but that was it. It wasn't fresh tasting & the rolls fell apart so easily and had no flavor. If you're all about quantity & not quality and don't mind getting sick, this is the place for you. The service was terrible to boot! I called to let them know that I got sick and they didn't really say or offer to do anything. I will not return! I was skeptical about trying Megumi due to its appearance on the outside because its in a shabby strip mall. As soon as I walked in, I was surprised to see an open, clean and well decorated restaurant. They immediately served very watery miso soup and handed us our menus. The menus were giant! It felt like a homework assignment just to read through all the variety of sushi rolls. We ordered the tempura vegetables for an appetizer which was very nice but the sushi came out a minute after, leaving little time to enjoy the appetizer. The sushi rolls were all delicious! The rolls are huge and have 10 or so pieces, which we didn't realize and ordered waaay too much! When we asked the waiter which rolls were which, he had no idea and neither did the person he asked! The waiter was rude and stole all the napkins off the table when the food came, which was weird. Overall, the good sushi is worth all the other weird stuff that goes along with this place! read more

Absolutely the best sushi rolls and atmosphere. This is a nice quiet family restaurant with a very knowledgeable staff. My husband and I are obsessed with this restaurant. The food is awesome and the rolls are huge so you definitely get your money's worth. I know it says ($$) but because the rolls are so big it evens out. The simple Philadelphia roll is so good. But my husband insists on their Bayou roll and the Megumi roll. The rolls are such a nice portion that you can order a few different ones and share so everyone can get a variety of rolls. My husband and I frequent Megumi (in both Covington and Mandeville) at least once a month--it is, by far, our favorite restaurant on the Northshore! Megumi has the best sushi I've ever had, and the service is always top-notch. It is our choice restaurant for anniversaries, birthdays, and special occasions too. Our favorite rolls are: Hawaiian Breeze, Megumi II, BLT roll, Bang Bang Shrimp roll, and Princess Poki. Everything is good, but those are must-haves. It can get a little pricey, depending on how much and what you order, but it's totally worth it! read more

Wish I could give less than 1 star. Placed an order at the Covington location, picked it up, and while I was eating it at home, received voicemails from the Mandeville location calling me wasteful and not nice. This was confusing to me, as I was currently eating the food I had ordered from the Covington location. When I called to see what the problem was, I was told I had placed a second order at the other location, which I did not know, since I had called the Covington location to place my order and all went smoothly. Even if this was just a miscommunication/computer issue, to speak to a customer like this just seems completely unprofessional and because of that I can't see myself ordering from them again. Which is unfortunate, because the food was good. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, blame was placed entirely on the customer. I have a lot of respect for the food industry and know how hard they work, and how hard 2020 has been for them. If I had knowingly ordered twice, I would have called to cancel whichever order was placed by mistake. The first I had heard of my order at the Mandeville location was from the voicemails I received after I was eating my food from the Covington location. No email or call to confirm my order and no charge on my card other than the charge for the food I ordered from the Covington location. Instead of accusing your customers of being a no show and being rude to them, maybe try to get the entire story first next time? I couldn't even figure out a solution or figure out what happened in the first place because they were too worried about telling me how not nice and wasteful I am. :( read more

Food is excellent, management is cheap, they need to hire more staff. We keep going but some of the hot food comes out cold, and they forget to bring essentials to the table every time, multiple times per visit. Still, the best sushi around. While I have not been to every sushi place in West St. Tammany, I have been to many, and this place is the best. Huge portions and fresh fish. Lunch prices are obviously much cheaper but even dinner prices are worth it. read more

Absolutely unprofessional staff! Been there twice and each time the whole staff of 10 or maybe more people was having lunch right in front of us which for me is very unprofessional! Ordered sushi, it came very quickly and it wasn't fresh! Their soup, which I can hardly call it a soup was so bland with a few drops of chopped onion was absolutely disgusting! Asked for ketchup for my son's chicken tempura and they didn't have it My experience wasn't so pleasant and I will never return to that place!!! read more

The menu here is huge and doesn't have images, so be prepared to read through pages to understand what the difference is between an 'aloha roll' and a 'Hawaiian roll.' I asked the server for some suggestions and he wasn't very fluent in English or very helpful. I ordered a lobster roll, but it was drowned in mayo and various sauces and not a lot of actual fish. You may be surprised, but we can definitely say that Megumi restaurant is the best sushi place in the whole America. They are absolutely amazing! We have visited tons of sushi restaurants before them and after them, but no place can beat them! We have been Megumi's customers for over 5 years already and they have never disappointed us. Megumi is a small place, but their selection of sushi is huge. Every single time we get the best quality fresh fish sushi with absolutely beautiful presentation. Service there is nice and quick.
