10 pc sushi deluxe with tuna hand roll
    Kim L.

Happy to see a sushi joint on near the main intersection of Kings Highway and Haddon Ave to bring a bit more variety to the Haddonfield downtown. I had visited the fancier, hidden Fuji down the road before but excited to see a familiar joint that I had tried in Moorestown. Megu is a very small local South Jersey chain that makes slightly upscale sushi. I rank it above all-you-can-eat/cheaper sushi with questionably fresh fish but below a very upscale/fancy Japanese establishment like a Morimoto. Perfect for the area. I came with some friends on a Saturday night and ordered a sushi deluxe set. The sushi comes with miso soup and salad to start your meal. It's your typical "salad" with that generic Asian style dressing and, sadly, lukewarm miso soup. It was alright but nothing too spectacular about the starters. My sushi deluxe set was divine! I had 10 pieces of sushi and a tuna hand roll that filled me up quite nicely. They have nice cuts of fish and everything worked out quite well. My one gripe is that there were a few flies that kept bothering me during the meal but this was some solid sushi. I was quite happy with my meal and I would like to return in the future! They have some nicely priced lunch specials that span from Monday through Saturday (yes you read that correctly). BYOB. Parking is free after 6pm everyday and on weekends in Haddonfield.

Today was my first time going to Megu in Haddonfield. If you are looking for a quiet place to sit down and eat sushi this is it. The staff is polite and quick. The rolls were pretty large as well. The only thing I wasn't happy about was the fact my glass was dirty. The rim of the glass had an unknown substance on it... good thing I had brought a water bottle.

This was my second visit, and it was terrific. Very high quality sushi and sashimi, and generous portions. The miso soup and ginger dressing on the side salad were also tasty. I had the salmon teriyaki bento box, and everything inside was great.

To me, I'm a bit indifferent, just another Japanese restaurant with the same list of items, sushi, teriyaki, etc. just a bit more polished for the demographic of the town, compared to Little Tokyo a few blocks away. And the waitress at the time, a little lukewarm. This is Haddonfield's third sushi restaurant, and it sits between Fuji (upper scale) and Little Tokyo. If I'm looking to grab a lunch I'll split between Megu or Little Tokyo. A special night out, definitely Fuji, I just wish they were more flexible with their Omakase. So take that for what it is.

Asked for wine glasses and they smelled like a dirty dish rag. Nasty! Tom Yam soup was good. Place needs a good cleaning.

Really good sushi at reasonable prices. Nice place for lunch. Service is fast. I think they also offer take out.

Unfortunately my complete meal was not as complementary. My plates certainly looked great but the rice in both my entrees was not properly prepared and seasoned. The seaweed used for my roll was not crisp meaning it was either not toasted or stored properly before service to account for the humidity. The bed of rice in my Chirashi was lightly seasoned with furikake seaweed but that hardly made a difference. It was still under seasoned. The sliced fish in my chirashi was fresh, but there wasn't any difference in taste from piece to piece. No amount of soy sauce or wasabi was going to enhance my chirashi. My experience certainly did not lay claim to a "best ever" designation and I've had my share of great sushi.

As with many restaurants, they seem to be prioritizing take out over customers with reservations. We had to wade through a scrum of delivery orders and pickup, after which we could finally advance to the hostess. After a short wait, the two of us were seated. Service was polite, if a little slow. While we were promptly given menus, we had to flag down the waitress to give our orders. We ordered a number of appetizers to share which were very good and served within a reasonable time. Unfortunately, we did not have any plates and it took 5 minutes to again flag down a waitress to get some. We were then presented with 2 plates that looked like they came from a NJ diner, heavy, cheap, generic ceramic. Our nigiri arrived and saved the day. The restaurant has a wider selection than many places in the area including "reasonably priced" o-toro. The fish was fresh, firm and very good. One thing that was lacking was any artistic presentation of the fish. It was nigiri, wasabi, and ginger. Overall, I enjoyed the food, but the overall restaurant experience was lacking. I will be back however.

Our absolute favorite is the chirashi bowl, so fresh and delicious. We always eat it wrapped in nori (seaweed), which makes it even better. The shrimp tempura udon is another must: light and flavorful broth, chewy noodles, and perfectly fried shrimp that are fresh and a great size. Honestly, everything here is amazing! you really can't go wrong. The service is excellent, very attentive and friendly. It does get busy on weekends, so I recommend calling ahead for a reservation. Perfect spot for a date night or a family dinner if you're looking for something truly authentic.

PRO: I will say, if you want a place where you can sit and have a conversation, dark mood lighting (especially forgiving if the last time you saw each other alot was 20 years ago! - LOL), Sagami is an excellent choice. PRO: They don't rush you out - take your time. It was a Thursday night, so not especially busy when we came at 6:30 PM. CON: I could not find an updated menu online - I'm one of those people who like to peruse a menu in advance. I started with a vegetable tempura appetizer ($10) - excellent, light, airy, tasty. My main was the dragon roll - very tasty. Service was quite nice. Appetizers came out almost immediately, the rolls took a lot longer to get to our table. This is the kind of place where you're not paying to fill up your belly - but if you do, expect to shell out some bucks.
