The self-checkout area is a masterclass in frustration. There aren't enough lanes, the systems look like they were installed sometime during the Bush administration, and half of them are usually "temporarily out of service" with paper bags draped over the screens like little brown tombstones. The line regularly stretches toward the back of the store, so forget "quick trip." The few seasoned employees who work that area really do try, but most of the self-checkout staff have perfected the art of standing nearby while being remarkably unhelpful. Prices, of course, are sky high--which might be easier to swallow if the place didn't feel so out of control. Shoplifting is clearly a sport here; you can literally watch people grab cases of beer and stroll right out the door. Handheld baskets are scarce because those walk out too. Outside, the loading dock area frequently smells putrid, and the seating area that's supposed to be for paying customers is often taken over by loiterers and left dirty and uninviting. It's not exactly the relaxing neighborhood grocery vibe they're going for. And then there's the parking garage. The lighting is dim enough that you half expect a crime drama to be filming in the corner. It feels dingy, not safe or welcoming, and the escalators from the garage to the store are out of service so often they might as well be decorative art pieces. For a grocery store in the heart of Old Town, this place should feel clean, secure, and well-managed. Instead, it's giving "municipal chaos with luxury pricing."

This store is small so the selection is limited but that keeps me shopping on a budget. This store makes you feel like you're living in a small town when I continue to see the same cashiers from day to day. Small town in a big city is no small feat. May be due to the location- right in the middle of a friendly neighborhood. Thankful to find a place with no tourists or visitors when trying to run a quick errand. Highly recommend to all old town residents.

We made a special trip to user their Western Union service only to find it closed. It's advertised to close at 9, and we arrived shortly after 7:15. No one was at the counter, & no sign or commynication. We we inquired to the male checkout attendant who mumbled "yes", got on the phone, then said the manager said it's not working. We asked to speak to the manager. Mr. Male Personality checkout clerk asked Ms Personality checkout clerk to phone Bumbling Manager. Well, after lying that it was broken, Bumbling Manager finally tripped up on his own story and revealed they close tge Western Union at 8 at this store because it's small and in order to reconcile (despite the fact it wasn't yet 8, and in fact, far from it). After I challenged Bumbling Manager he became quite upset that I was raising my voice - to which I replied you're advertising a service and closing it early without any notification to customers. He mumbled back the lie that it was not operational, refused to say if it woukd be the next morning, & was a completely discombobulated when I continued to challenge his lie. I specifically went there today to give them by business. I got some wine. The lady literally opened the paper bag and left it there for me to bag myself. Like here's you're bag kind of thing.
