Terrible. My perception: man at downtown Austin location yelled at customers Hey! I TOLD YOU...Mean and disrespectful. Toilet stunk to high heaven. Dont think it had been changed for quite some time. Perhaps HEALTH DEPT should be notified. And why do customers have to stand in line to get a business card ticket, when we already have our reservation number? Horrible service. The Scheduled bus is never on time. Today, Nov 25-2018, we have been more than 100 people at the katy Mills mall Station ( Entrance 8 ), and not any bus showed up. They were students waiting the bus to go to both Austin ans San Antonio. None of the Buses showed up. We call to customer service, and after 10 minutes ringing, finally answered that there is not bus available, didn't explain what was the reason for the delay, and scheduled a bus for the next day. It was a big mess. I had to take my son to Austin on my own. According to another user, this is the second time in two weeks that this happen. Megabus advertised plug ins, Wi-Fi, and entertainment options on my trip to San Antonio. We were put on a non Megabus bus and received none of these things. I honestly didn't really need these offerings but don't appreciate false advertising. Its like I paid for a BLT but they gave me a lettuce sandwich. The bus was also miraculously 45 minutes late arriving even though we left on time. I called for a refund because I payed for services not rendered, but they don't offer refunds even if you end up getting swindled. I'd rather ride a Greyhound. Purchased a ticket for my 16 year-old niece to visit from Austin to Houston, paid $54 for ticket. When boarding the bus, the driver denied access, saying "minimum age is 17. Awful customer service, would not refund ticket, said terms & conditions state 17 is minimum traveling age. That would be great if that was shown clearly on website while purchasing the ticket as a confirmation, not hidden on a separate legalese webpage. Would not even entertain the idea of a simple refund on our money or even a credit for later use. Megbus is a rip-off, I highly recommend another bus line or alternative mode of transportation. These people are awful and extremely rude on the phone once we finally got ahold of someone. They also denied us speaking with a supervisor. HORRIBLE. read more

Past experiences with Megabus have pleasant. I've taken a leisurely trip to Slidell, La visit my gabby. My return trip this time was a nightmare. I usually pay the extra fee for reserved seating. Our return trip was not on a Megabus but rather a Coach Bus. No one at the station knew what was going on or why. There was no reserved seating, even though I had aid for it. When I called the 1(800)# to inquire about what was going on, the attendant was very cold and rude. When I asked why we weren't notified about changes, she said you were. They notified the wrong email address, and only 15 minutes before scheduled departure. Since the bus was smaller, it was crowded and all the passengers were frustrated. I can't get a ticket with Megabus, with whom I've ridden with before... because my card was flagged by their fraud department, the same card I've always used. And apparently there's nothing they can do about it. They told me that on day one. Their customer service is horrendous. They're ignorant and fix no problems. They told me to have a friend purchase the ticket for me. Which I did, actually I asked 2 friends. And both of them got the same message saying they entered incorrect billing information. So none of us can get a ticket. And they could care less. I've been going back and forth with them for 7 days now. I've emailed and called, they're not even listening to me. One guy even hung up on me! They keep telling me to get a friend to buy the ticket - not caring that I already tried that and that they too are getting the same "incorrect billing info" message as me. These tickets are A STEAL. If you ACTUALLY get onto a bus then yes - a $10 fare from Houston to Austin is just dandy. Unfortunately, if you go through an experience like mine, it's Megabus that's doing all the stealing - your money, time, and energy. This past weekend, I bought my boyfriend a roundtrip ticket from Austin to Houston on the megabus website. It was easy enough - you pick your locations, times, etc. and you're good to go. They email you a confirmation number and tell you to print it out to show the driver on the bus. According to my boyfriend, the bus was on time at the Austin pick up location and he said the bus was fine - similar to the Greyhound - and he had no complaints there. So far, the cheap tickets were looking really good! Things went downhill on Sunday when he was supposed to leave. The ticket I had purchased was for a Jersey City departure at 6:40pm. My boyfriend and I arrived at the pickup spot (the Select Shell gas station just down the street from the northwest bus stop) at 5:45. As we waited for the bus to come, more and more people arrive- most of them UT students (and their families who were dropping them off). 6:40 rolled around, and the bus was nowhere in site. At that point, we were thinking it wasn't a big deal because the bus was presumably coming from its first stop in downtown. By 7:00 when the bus finally came, instead of happiness/relief, most of us were feeling uneasy. The bus looked pretty full. When the bus parked, the driver got off and announced he could ONLY TAKE 2 PASSENGERS. 2 people rushed to the front of the line and got on that bus like their lives depended on it. For the rest of us, we were left dealing w/ this bus driver that really couldn't do anything for us except to tell us to try to catch a greyhound because he was driving the LAST BUS OF THE NIGHT. The only thing he could say about getting a refund for our tickets (and like someone else said before, who cares about a $10 refund when I just wasted all my time waiting for the bus, and my boyfriend was missing a full day of work/pay) was that we could call the Megabus service hotline. So we went home, called the hotline, and of course, the Megabus service hotline is NOT 24 hours. NO HELP AT ALL! This was a huge inconvenience for us, like I mentioned, my boyfriend had work the next day and basically missed out on a day's worth of pay. Despite this, our story wasn't even as bad as others. There was a girl and her mom who had been waiting for a bus since 3 (her other bus was scheduled for 4:00)! The SAME thing had happened to her with that bus (it was also full and the driver told her to wait for the next one). Apparently, Megabus doesn't know how to run a transportation company properly - NOT OVERBOOKING TRIPS or having a protocol for what happens in that event is a BASIC tenet of transportation management. I am completely unhappy with my experience and won't be spending another cent on Megabus. The next day, we got my boyfriend a ticket on the Greyhound and it ALSO cost $10, so really, there's no reason to use Megabus instead. read more

The bus advertised power outlets and wifi. Had neither. So I couldn't study/work as I needed to. Waste of time. Had to ride it again. Same issues, no power and no wifi. There aren't even cup holders. I've ridden the megabus about 30 times at this point, here's my review - The pros: - Cheap. Even though prices have risen slightly since it started, it's still quite affordable - Free Wifi/power outlets. The wifi speed kinda sucks but most buses don't have it at all. Each seat has its own power outlet, which is nice for charging phones/laptops. - New buses. They are newly built and in good condition. The cons: - IT'S FREEZING COLD. This is no joke, they they keep the bus like the effing tundra for some idiotic reason so bring a blanket. I have no idea why they do this but it is annoying, they really need to change it. read more

avoid at all costs this company has really gone down the tubes. bus trip from NYC to Boston broke down in the middle of Connecticut and they took 3 hours and 58 minutes to send a replacement bus. the replacement bus they sent had mechanical problems also. we were supposed to arrive at 6 pm, and instead showed up at midnight lol. i missed my connecting bus because of this and had to spend the night in Boston to reach my connecting bus the next day, spent a bunch of extra money on Ubers and lodging. at the end of all of this, they offered REDEMPTION CODES and not a refund. i'll probably give my redemption codes to someone else to avoid the absolute Hell that this bus company has turned into. funny thing is if i had just taken Amtrak i would have spent around the same amount of money that i spent on Lyfts/Ubers and additional travel costs i accrued during this warped twisted megabus nightmare! i took Peter Pan bus on my way back and their bus was like riding a Rolls Royce compared to Megabus and their dilapidated old and unmaintained clunkers. avoid avoid avoid. i do not wish what i went through on my worst enemies. ps the driver was sweet and tried their best so that was the only good thing. i hope she starts driving for a different bus company. but ya definitely go w another company. read more

I called customer service what I should do if another passenger either took my luggage purposefully or accidentally and they were not helpful at all. Our bus from Austin to Houston broke down half way to Houston. The driver did not have his emergency repair kit. No water. We were told we would have to wait 1 1/2 hour for the repair truck... but not to leave the bus. After 45 minutes in a steaming bus we gave up and called for family help. Most people ended up leaving the bus and walking to the nearest gas station for water. ANOTHER customer said this happens all the time. Texas Highways should ban these vehicles. No apology... no talk of refund. From now on I'm taking Greyhound. read more

Be warned - we booked a confirmed ticket yesterday evening, March 15th, from Houston to San Antonio. Megabus oversold the bus by 60 people, so we did not make the "first" bus. Megabus said that another bus was coming in "20 minutes". After 30 minutes we called their Customer NO Satisfaction line and they kept telling us another bus was coming in "20 minutes". One of the reps even said " let me calculate how much longer the bus will take to get there - only 15 to 20 minutes". Three hours later we arranged to drive to San Antonio to catch a 6:20 AM flight. Megabus should not be in business - you cannot rely on them - when it works I am sure it is great - but DO NOT assume they will take care of you and you better have a Plan B to make sure you get where you need to be on time. You are officially warned and I feel a little better - not much. read more

False advertising the bus advertised was not the bus that was in service. Completely bait and switch company and service provider do not expect to have a nice bus equipped with WiFi and outlet plugs. When a bus is booked that information should be provided if an alternative bus will be made available to consumers. I would not recommend a company who does this with out notification or any alternative accommodations. read more

Son at UT Austin been using for years. Hardly ever on time, today 12:10 pm at Shell/290 didn't arrive until 2:00 pm, no explanations. Paid for SMS updates, didn't receive any. Wife called customer service and they told her he missed the bus and would have to buy a new ticket--WOW!--what a whopper. Arrived half an hour early to pick up my son for the first time. Had to circle the block twice since there was no parking or directions on the premise. I finally ended up parking a block away in a paid parking lot and waited an hour and a half for my son bus to arrive. Meanwhile I watched the chaotic and very unorganized buses dropping and picking passengers up and felt extremely relieved I wasn't one of the ones boarding. Also had to deal with weird people hanging around and asking for change and to use my phone. Thank goodness it was crowded in the lot, and there were some cop cars parked in the Metro area across the street, otherwise I would of felt very scared waiting in the dark. There is a waiting area inside a mobile looking house but when I went inside, it was empty. I felt safer waiting outside. When my son finally arrived, told him he is never using this bus ever again!! read more

Internet was very bad, I had to use my Data to get a connection..Don't know what to suggest, other than change providers and start over. The whole experience was just horrible. Clean your stations and especially the bathrooms, there's the disgusting smell of putrefied urine in your bathrooms. Maintenance on the bus is extremely important because you have the commuters who trust that Megabus is functioning properly and, they are not! Mega Bus is below acceptable requirements, you're putting the lives of your commuters in jeopardy. It's unclean, with major non-responsive connectivity and major automotive mechanical issues "WiFi, Interior Lights, Bus Engine, Costumer Service' ". I purchased 2 tickets for children 17 and 19 to travel from Baton Rouge to Houston, only for the bus driver to deny them entrance onto the bus and then lie and say he didn't. I'm about to move out of state for school, but really wanted to visit my friends upstate before I left. When I heard of Megabus and it's super cheap rates, I decided to go for it. Round trip Houston to Dallas for $32.50? Not bad at all, especially for leaving during the day (I caught the 1:00 pm out and the 5:15 pm back home). Pros: Since I rode during the day instead of in the early morning or at night, there were few passengers, so everyone was stretched out. The fact that the bus is a double-decker is cool as well. Clean restroom. Leaves on-time. Con: Wi-fi. Why even advertise the service if it does not work? It's not even that it's slow -- I grew up *with* the internet, I can deal with a slow connection -- it's the fact that it does. not. work. You connect, it tells you that you're connected, the signal looks amazing, and you can't load a single page. Very annoying. It can also get a bit cold in there since the A/C is on the highest setting possible. Be sure to bring a blanket because you'll need it after about an hour, even if you turn the vents away from you. No, you cannot turn the air off. Also, the fact that Megabus' departure lot is just that, a lot, is pretty sketchy, especially at night. Imagine being a woman and having to wait for your family to come pick you up at 10:30 pm across from the Downtown TC. It's not fun. Thankfully, the Lone Star Saloon is right next door and they'll let you hang out without even buying a drink (thanks guys!). Annoyances aside, I would use Megabus again. Beware that the morning and evening departures are always full and you may not be able to get a seat. If you have an empty day, just take a mid-day departure. The traffic will suck, and you'll get to your destination maybe 30, sometimes 45, minutes later, but at least you'll have a guaranteed seat and will be able to carry-on with your day. And hopefully by the time I need to use them again, they'll actually have a dedicated building for passengers to wait in. read more

It is Freezing! It was cold and rainy outside and the bus driver kept the air conditioning blasting the whole 6 hour ride. Stopped bus twice and over an hour and a half late. Trash bag with food tied to seat in front of me kept knocking my leg. Update: my last ride was not cold and surprisingly a bit warm. Very inexpensive form of travel. The busses are always very clean and seats ate reasonably comfortable. AND, bring your phone chargers because the busses are equipped with electrical outlets for the ability to charge your phone while traveling. Tips: Arrive early so that you can have a better choice of seating and DO NOT be late, one minute after and you would have missed your bus. read more

They told them to take a 1.5 hour break and they'll be on their way. I was told by customer service outsourced to another country that I'd get an email update. She comes back from her break and THE BUS IS GONE!! Called customer service 2.5 hours later, who couldn't give me an update since their initial email right after the bus stalled, to tell me if another bus is coming or if they cancelled the ride. Then, they hung up on me. Still haven't gotten an update and it's been 5 hours!! Bad job and shame on you for leaving these kids on the side of the freeway with their luggage on the towed bus! Horrible customer service, delay in travel, the worst bus system I have ever taken. I had gotten an email three hours before my scheduled departure that the bus would be running an hour to an hour and a half late, which was fine. I called the Megabus Customer Service line an hour before my originally scheduled departure time to ensure that the bus was still running late and to see if they knew when the bus would be there (an hour late or close to an hour and a half) because I didn't want to wait at the bus station for hours rather than enjoying my time. They were absolutely NO HELP! They couldn't comprehend my question and were only able to tell me that the bus would be an hour to an hour and a half late and that I would need to call back every 10 minutes to get an idea of if the bus was in route to the depot or not. I finally spoke with someone who seemed to have some sense after calling every 10 minutes for a half hour and they let me know that the bus would probably be at the station closer to an hour after my original departure time. However, when I called back 10 minutes later (wanted to make sure I wasn't going to miss my bus), the lady on the customer service line said the bus would be there at the originally scheduled time and that there were no delays. WHAT THE HECK! I had been speaking with these people for over an hour and had gotten an email saying that the bus was not going to be arriving at its scheduled time. The lack of communication with the customers about delays and the actual time that the buses will be arriving is ridiculous! The app, customer service line, and website had no information and there were many frustrated customers that had been waiting. The bus ended up showing up, 45 minutes after the scheduled departure time, but it was so frustrating that there was no clear communication about what was going on and when the bus would arrive. The bus ride it's self was fine, nothing special, but I will not be riding Megabus again after this. read more

My first time taking this and not a good experience, first they don't even have a station at this location, so ur just standing outside and then the bus came 45 minutes late. The New Orleans station was more put together and professional. People with reserved seats were let on first, which is kind of understandable. Megabus is a "SCAM ARTIST Corporation"I was told on a recorded line that I would receive an email stating I would receive a credit or would be to reschedule the trip due to the bus was running late, and I would not be able to make my appointment. I was told call after, the time trip would be finished, so they would be able send me an email stating the credit or be able reschedule the trip for future dates. I called several times & was hung upon once I stated what the supervisor said. Next they wanted me send information of the ticket, phone, & email so it can be investigated; which could be done while we are both on the phone, just to give the run around, so they would not have to honor their word. They will absolutely never ever get another dime of my money. Bus scheduled to leave at 7:15am. They sent a text and email at 5:38am saying the bus was delayed, but when I called they told me to disregard the email and text. Get there and wait and about 7:30am the attendant says the bus is delayed 6 hours. So I called again. They process my refund and tell me that the bus should come between 12 and 1. I called again at 11am and they tell me it won't be there until 4:15pm. So not appropriate. What is the customer to do. To make matters worse the supervisor told me I could buy another bus ticket to catch the next bus. How is that compensation for you inconveniencing me. I ended up getting my refund which is coming in 5-7 business days and got on another bus free of charge. But I had to travel two extra hours out of my way. Greyhound from now on. read more

I've ridden the Megabus quite a few times now, but I'm done after my latest experience. Starting from the beginning, I purchased a 7:55am trip from Austin to Houston to get back in time for a family gathering. I got an email confirming the charge from WorldPay (company that processes your payment), but never got a confirmation email for my reservation. Thinking I should be fine, I show up at the bus the next morning, and the driver tells me he doesn't have a reservation under my name, and I need to call customer service. I do that, and the customer service rep tells me there was a problem with my payment and I'll need to repurchase a ticket. At this point it's already 7:55 and all I can buy is the 10:20. Luckily, the bus driver was nice enough to let me on the 7:55 still so I get on thinking I'm in the clear. Wrong. Turns out, I have now been charged for both trips, and Megabus refuses to return my money for one of the payments because "the trips are already over", which somehow absolves them from never using my money to give me a ticket in the first place. Sounds like stealing, doesn't it? On top of all this, the bus was over an hour late to Houston because of a useless 1-hr "layover" off FM 1960. This, the spotty Wi-Fi and the rising prices seals it for me. I'd rather split gas with a stranger than deal with these clowns again. read more

I have to put in my disclaimer that my mom actually had a good journey. The problem I have with Megabus Houston is their lack of parking and their over-ambitious city police officers roaming around with their parking gun targeting any vehicle in the vicinity. We got a parking ticket even while in the car and moving. I realize that this is a system problem both dealing with the City of Houston and Megabus, but I think it is an issue Megabus needs to resolve in terms of parking if they want to continue to have a successful service. There is no point in having a bus system that works well if passengers have nowhere to be picked up. They should learn from their stations in other cities and actually resolve this issue as a business. read more

I wish there are more parking spaces for pick-up and drop off. Still, Megabus beats flying to Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin when you are on a budget. read more
