Megabus in Houston is a decent option when you just needed a cheap way to get to cities like Dallas or Austin. This bus was ok. They always smell off (like the faint smell of a bad toilet), but the seats were fairly clean. The main downside was the pickup location. It was hard to find, even with google maps. I ended up at the wrong bus stop at first. The stop itself was dirty and smelt worse than the bus. You get what you paid for! read more

Stations: austin's: waiting area had a lot of seats and had bathroom facilities outside, though it was a little dirty. visible customer service station. houston's: dirtier and smaller, and you are better to wait outside as the waiting area is small. you need to knock on the door of office located to far right end of waiting area (not obvious that people work there). dallas': i didn't go inside. 3. bus ride: pleasant. wifi did not work but the electric plug in did. people are a little different than those that ride airplanes. My friends and I decided to ride the megabus to New Orleans for the weekend (Oct 19-21). On the ride down we had Charmaine and it was decent. The only set back was the driver ran over a blown out tire and it became stuck underneath the bus. We had to stop and wait for a wrecker to come which took a hour off our time. Once that was taken care of we were back on the road. We had reserved seats on the top, the temperature was fine, and we were able to get some sleep. Also, the ride down was an overnight trip (1159PM-630AM). The ride back (9AM-340PM) was HORRIBLE. The driver Lisa had the a/c set on 60 degrees when it was only 65 outside. Even after we all asked her to turn the a/c off or at least make it warmer she refused! Needless to say WE WERE ALL FREEZING the entire ride back. She also made a stop outside of Beaumont for 45 mins which took time away from us arriving on time. Again, we sat at the top with our own reserved seats and any attempt to get any type of sleep or just enjoy the ride was nonexistent because of the cold. I most likely won't ride the megabus again and just pay the extra money to fly or simply just drive down. read more

First impressions are lasting impressions! I needed to head to New Orleans in a few hours. Plane ticket was almost $400 dollars, so that was not an option. I realy did not feel like driving because I was leaving from work a few hours before I needed to start heading to New Orleans, so I needed a cheaper alternative. Here comes Megabus to the rescue. Went online and booked a bus leaving a few hours after I got off from work for a grand total of $43.50 round trip. That is less than the cost of one tank of gas driving there, so the savings were worth it. I also did not have to drive, and could rest on the journey there, so that was an added bonus. One detractor was not having my vehicle once I did make it to New Orleans, but with so much family there, not a real big deal for me. I see that you need to be at the bus stop at least 15 minutes before the bus departure time. Not a big deal there, even though this bus stop is in the middle of the city. The bus stop is conviently located next to a metro bus terminal, which has an over hang and all around shelter. The parking lot where the Megabus arrives has just a tent for the first few people that arrived to stand under. Very organized and visible workers ensuring people are in the proper lines for their bus. 2 things went wrong for me here. First of all, the Megasbus was late...really late! Ot seems as though they did not have a driver for the bus...not sure how that is possible, but it did happen! We left 1 hour and 15 minutes after the scheduled time. Second thing that happened that is a down side to the experience, they allow solicitors to ask people for money in the line. I would ensure that only people that were scheduled for travel was allowed inside that parking lot area. Once the bus got moving, everything was smooth and effecient. One refueling stop only, and they announced that the bus left in 15 minutes, with or without you. All in all, not a bad experience. I notieced a table like area for the handicapped patrons that wish to utilize this service as well. PLEASE NOTE: The bus is freezing inside. I guess they do this to eliminate germ contamination from person to person a la a hospital. Bring a blanket, jacket or something for the inside. I will do this again. read more

I had a fairly good experience with my round trip from Houston and New Orleans. I took the red eye (midnight - 6am) and was able to sleep for more than 90% of the trip. The bus stopped halfway for a 15-minute potty break at a gas station and had another stop in Baton Rouge to drop off a few folks. I found the bus to be clean. I did not use the bathroom though. It can be a little bumpy on the first level, so I recommend going on the second level. Being a neck pillow and small blanket to be comfortable. read more

I bought my daughter a ticket from Austin to Houston and they stranded her in Katy, Texas. Katy is NOT IN HOUSTON and they claimed they were entitled to dump her and her bag there because they call Katy Houston. I've actually BEEN to their stop downtown Houston, I know they can find Houston. Their customer service uses the word "policy" like the officers at Nürnberg said they were just "following orders." These idiots can't be trusted, and moreover have no sense of customer service. I would not recommend except as a prank. read more

They have a non refundable policy which is stated basically NO WHERE on their website, the customer service operators are little 18 yr olds that work from home and have no sympathy or respect. I was trying to book my little brother and I a ticket from one place to another. Simple. I even selected 2 seats on the bus so we could sit next to each other. Customer Service via telephone is horrible. They don't care about issues, they only want to sell. I was desperately trying to get mixed up tickets straight. I was hung up on, then the other rep trying to sell me a ticket from Houston to Katy for an additional fee. I tried to explain I paid $19.50 to correct ticket previous ticket. She was very annoyed. Gentleman in Houston was very nice which is why I didn't give a one The ride itself is okay. During night bring a blanket. Use your ear piece to listen to music so you won't hear the noisy travelers. Horrible. Recommend to no one. My wife and I rode in a Lyft and arrived at Katy Mills Mall around 1:39 PM. We were waiting along with approximately 30 other passengers and saw the Megabus drive by us without stopping at the designated location (Katy Mills Mall Entrance 8) specified in our reservation email around 2:15 PM. After thirty minutes, several passengers called customer service and they told us to "call back in 15 minutes for an update". When I called again after 4 o'clock, customer service representative Sandra stated that the notes in her system claimed the driver stopped at the designated location at 2 o'clock and left at 2:16 because there was nobody present to ride the Megabus. I was then told by another employee that they were sending another bus from the downtown Houston location to take us to Austin. Around 4:15 a Megabus was still not present. I called back and requested a refund, and representative Melanie informed me that I will not get a refund because "we missed the bus". I have never experienced such unprofessional, incompetent service. My wife and I bought Megabus tickets because we reserved a hotel in downtown Austin for two nights to save car mileage and daily parking expenses. We also made restaurant reservations that we are now unable to attend on time. We then had to spend money on another Lyft and now have to use additional financial resources to drive to Austin after wasting nearly three hours that we should not be punished or held accountable for. I also have attached documentation of other customers who were left stranded as well with their reservation numbers. They gave me a partial refund and told me that my returning trip is unrelated even though they left me stranded and unable to have an opportunity to aboard the returning trip(?!) read more

I was on the Houston to New Orleans route that was supposed to leave at 7:45 AM, Aug 30, 2019. The bus pulled into the lot to pick us up at 8:45 (bus DD574). The sun had risen and it was already very warm and we had been sweating in line. At no point did the terminal staff try to explain to us what was happening or how much longer would have to wait for the bus. The bus driver called for the reserve ticket passengers, however, the remaining passengers also came forward and stood off to the side where there was shade and no moving vehicles while we waited and she barked at us all to go back where we were until she called for us (after we had already been waiting in the sun for an hour). When I get to here she begins to lift my luggage and immediately puts it down and says it's too heavy and I need to remove things. Fortunately my friend and I had a little spare room in our carryon bags, and I made the luggage a little lighter and she claimed it was still too heavy (though I could lift it with one arm with ease). I offered to lift it into the storage area for her and she told me no and to put the bag down and shook her head. Once in the bus, she explained the rules of the bus, which were fine, but intermittently throughout the trip she kept getting on the loudspeaker getting onto passengers for talking too loud, particularly a wedding party in the front of the bus, and from where I was sitting, they were totally fine. I could even hear mumblings from other passengers asking what the driver's problem was. She would get upset if anyone was talking above a whisper or their headphones were too loud. She then proceeded to threaten to drop certain passengers off at the next stop because she had to keep repeating herself. No one was being too loud. Mind you this is my first experience with megabus. My return home is in 3 days and I'm not looking forward to it if this is how all megabus trips are. Buyer beware, and make sure your destination plans are flexible. read more

I rode on Megasbus for the first time on my way to Austin. There are two stops in Houston but for all you inner loopers, the closest stop is downtown. Located off of Travis street, it's not the nicest part of town so I wouldn't recommend leaving your car in the area. I got a ride to the bus station. Unless you pay extra, seats are first come first serve. Round trip, I paid $38 which is a great price when you factor in gas money had you drove and the ability to do whatever you want on the bus (well within reason lol) instead of driving. I left on a Saturday and the only departure times were 8 AM, 10 AM, and 5 PM. The first two were too early for me so I went with 5 PM and arrived in Austin around 8:20 PM. I wish they had a mid afternoon option too. The bus was pretty full but luckily no one sat next to me. I always try to look like I'm pissed when people walk by so nobody has the courage to sit next to me haha. The ride left pretty much on time and arrived pretty much on time, give or take a few minutes. Pretty comfortable ride. You can control your A/C and there are outlets in front of every seat so you can keep your electronics charged. One big downside? They market themselves as having free wifi which is a big plus. I tried logging on to the wifi and I was connected but it didn't work. Not sure if I got unlucky or they engage in false advertising. Ended up having to use my mobile hotspot so I could get some work done on my laptop. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend Megabus for trips instead of driving, especially if you're solo! read more

I sent my son to Dallas for the weekend. It was his first time traveling alone. You must be 18 to ridel unaccompanied. My son is 18 but he has a life challenge, Autism. This review is a long one. As a parent of a child with a challenge, I know that it is almost unbearable to allow them too far from our reach. In addition to sharing my experience with my fellow yelpers, I hope this helps to ease that stress for those that share my shoes. THE TICKET... I purchased a ticket noting a 'disabled person'. Though he is not physically disabled I wanted the staff to recognize him as a passenger with challenges. The ticket cost $65 round trip...far from the $1 advertised on the bus. How the heck do you get that price anyway? OUTBOUND... There is a small drop off/pick up area for vehicles adjacent to the concrete lot where the buses pull in. I always park at the curb. There are roped off lanes for standing in line as you wait for the bus. Bring an umbrella and something to sit on. Your wait can be long, you don't want to lose your place in line, and you are completely exposed. There is no cover which is ridiculous considering how hot it gets here. Maybe they only bring out the canopies during the summer? Luckily our bus arrived on time and it was only about half full. I've read from other reviewers that their reserved seats were stolen. How disgusting! I was pleased to see the lot attendants call those with reserved seats out of line and allow them to board first. It was also pretty funny to see the dimwits that jumped their assess out of line, (knowing they did not have reserved seats) only to be escorted to the back of the general seating line when the attendant verified their boarding pass. You've gotta be a real a-hole to claim someone else's seat knowing they paid extra for it. We stood in the parking lot for not more than 10 minutes before my son boarded. I let the lot attendant verifying my sons ticket know of his disabled status. She abruptly asked me how old he was. She then stated she wouldn't be on the bus and that I'd need to let the driver know. I did. He was nice. Asked which of the Dallas drop offs my son would need to deboard and assured me he'd get him there. After talking myself out of following the bus all the way to Dallas, I took a u-turn some where near Conroe. The bus arrived to Dallas on time. My sister picked him up and I couldn't be prouder of my sweet baby. RETURN TRIP... As far as I know, the bus left Dallas on time. It was supposed to make it to Houston at 6:40. It arrived at 7:30. Not complaining though. It was raining pretty hard here so I appreciate the driver slowing it down. The bus pulled into the lot with a very eager me waiting impatiently near the standing lanes. I suppose I understand why they do it but they pretty much hold everyone hostage in the bus while they unload all the luggage. I asked if I could grab my son's suitcase. The driver politely asked me not to as it could cause a mix up. It took what seemed like forever for them to unload as the bus was full. My son soon deboarded and all was right with the world again. :-) All in all, mega bus got my son to and from his destination safely and my son emerged ready to go again. What more can I ask? First time riding Mega Bus and I didn't know what to expect from negative and positive reviews but, Hubby and I took a chance and I must say I was impressed.. From Houston to New Orleans (9/12) and returned 9/14 Bus was scheduled to be leaving Houston at 8am and 8:02 we were pulling out. No problems at all with being late to and from NO. They take rest breaks at nicer gas stations, like Love's, which have clean restrooms and better food options. Wifi is limited...I received a message after a while stating "You have exceeded your Wi-Fi usage allowance. I liked the outlets to use to charge your electronics. Please read the luggage instructions and follow them because if not you will be turned away. I seen it with my own two eyes... people being turned away with too much luggage. Be prepared to stand outside its no where to sit and wait just fenced in parking lot. I suggest to bring a umbrella. The bus is COLD.... Believe me when I tell you this. Bring a jacket or blanket. The seats are comfortable but, not much leg room if you over 6 ft tall you will feel cramped nor do I feel the seats are not spacious for someone overweight. Yes in fact I did recently take the Megabus from Austin to Houston and it was a pretty okay experience. So I absolutely had to haul butt back to Houston for my BFF's birthday bash, after spending a leisurely five days in San Antonio and Austin, but the boyfriend had to remain in Austin for a wedding. I initially thought Greyhound would save the day, but then Megabus came to mind and what do you know - much cheaper than Greyhound! Awesome! Because I'm totally not hating on Greyhound . . . however the one time I took it more than ten years ago, as a college student, it was a tad gross-feeling and there were more than a couple of shifty-looking characters riding with me. And oh yeah, the Greyhound stations weren't the most sanitary . . . maybe that's changed by now? So the Megabus picks up at few locations around Austin, mostly parking lots and it's fairly prompt so please do plan on being fifteen minutes early because it seems that the drivers don't exactly wait around for un-checked passengers on the list. Speaking of that confirmation number you'll receive via email - I actually paid the $.15 cents to have it texted to me, and it ended up being all scrambled - in which case I just pulled up my email confirmation. The passengers heavily comprised of wide-eyed college kids, as expected. Outlets are provided at every seat and there's WiFi. During my three and a half hour journey (lucky us, faced with a torrential flood during the last hour), the bus did stop at a gas station to pick up a passenger and to allow for a brief break. There is a restroom on-board, but I wisely deprived myself of liquids beforehand to avoid that. Oh yes, you might want to bring along a jacket because the AC can be a little intense . . . I stupidly forgot mine and was left hugging myself for most of the ride. But for $13.50, not bad at all. read more

We boarded bus proceed upstairs . After we sprayed lysol and cleaned arm rails with beach we got comfortable for the ride . The bus was cold so bring a blanket . Restroom was clean until a clown peed on the floor . The host that makes the announcements was funny she had us rolling . Comfortable ride and made a stop at gas station so you can get snacks 20 minute grace period . Bus stopped in Baton Rouge for about 30 minutes. This was my first Megabus trip in Texas, a one day leisure trip Houston - Austin - Houston. This route starts at Houston Downtown (4th Ward), then stop/pick-up at Shell Select gas station (FM 1960W and Hwy 290), Prairie View, and Brenham. I started and stop my trip at the Shell Select. There were no waiting line here. People waited in their cars and "run" to the bus once it showed up. Plenty of parking space available here, and function as safe parking spot for a day trip. The terminal at Austin is a small parking lot next to Dobie Center across Dobie Mall public parking garage. Megabus provides waiting line here. Also, there were 2 zip cars available on the spot when I arrived. Not sure if already booked by some Megabus riders. I can see the advantage of this "simbisios mutualisma" between Megabus and Zip Car. Hope this interconnection service options available in Houston and other cities too. Overall, ride was smooth even for me on the upper level seats on this double decker bus. Drivers drove safely, and polite too. The Austin-Houston driver was more informative by announcing the route and stops through speakers. I wished the other driver did the same. It is helpful especially for new or non frequent riders. The buses were clean, has working power outlets, safety belts, sky window (moon roof), and small restroom. There are TV monitors, but Drivers did not turn them on for my trip, hence there were no safety video shown either. Not sure the reasons. Both rides arrived 15 minutes later than scheduled, but still within my tolerance for leisure trip. Riders please pay attemption:Megabus states passengers to be at pick-up point 15 minutes before schedule. DO NOT BE LATE. I saw how it works today. One passenger arrived 1 minute late. The bus already closed its door and moved slowly toward exit. The Austin Megabus Dispatcher was strict and did not allow this late passenger to ride although technically the bus was still in the parking lot area (because the traffic on main road blocking it). I applauded this Dispatcher for this discipline. Bus is public transport, not your private vehicle,so respect other riders by being on time please. My only complain is internet Wifi connection. It dropped off frequently. I stopped after 7th attempts. Megabus needs to fix this. If Megabus cannot offer a reliable internet wifi connection, I suggest take this feature off your promotion at all, to manage customers' expectation. read more

Besides that, the bus ride was expected for the price. Nothing above and beyond , and nothing below standards. It was a very convenient ride to get where I needed and back. It was a 6 hr ride and I was good, I gone on 3 hrs on a plane and feel like I'm going to die. Then coming home was as well the same. Megabus arrived early got my seat got comfortable. Felt amazing. It was cold but feels like the top is less cold. Brought a blanked this time too. I must say I recommend this ride. This is my 4th time riding the megabus and they have been late 2 out of the 4 times (one time had to wait 30 minutes in the heat). They do not give an accurate estimate of when the bus will arrive so you literally just stand in the heat and wait. The bus conditions are fine except it can get quite cold. Unfortunately, there aren't tables for you to work on or put your laptop on. Other cons are there are no parking spaces so you'll have to have someone pick you up or drop you off at the stop. The bus also stops in Katy if you get on from the downtown spot...so that always takes away quite a bit of time. The 2 stars are for them getting me from point A to point B safely. read more

I took the 9:00am bus going from New Orleans to Houston yesterday (Sept. 2, 2019) and the driver was extremely unprofessional. He got into an argument with a lady who was trying to sit in a seat that she hadn't reserved, and once he finally got her to sit in her correct seat, he turned to me and said, "You see what I have to deal with every day?" When we stopped for food, he only gave us fifteen minutes to get something and be back on the bus. He wouldn't allow anyone to exit the bus from the front (which I'd never heard of), so of course it took everyone longer than it would've taken if we hadn't all had to use the one exit. Then when we reached our destination, someone asked why we couldn't exit the bus from the front, and he remarked because those are the rules, but he said it in a very nasty tone. A man who was sitting a few seats behind me said to him, "It was just a question, you don't have to be so rude" and the driver started walking towards him and said, "What? Don't you tell me how rude I need to be! I'll put my foot up your a** for f*cking with me!" I have taken the mega bus many times, but I have never seen a driver behave the way he did. One of the worst travel experiences I have had. Coming from Europe where travelling via bus is ubiquitous/seamless, I could not help but be appalled at the level of service provided on our DC to NYC trip - from an extremely rocky and uncomfortable ride due to the way the driver was braking/accelerating in fits to the horrendous uncomfortable seats. You get what you pay for. The worst part of the trip was that the tickets indicated a trip time of 4.5 hours. The final trip duration was 6 hours. Simply unacceptable. Not even an acknowledgement from the driver for the delay. Mask enforcement was haphazard. Certainly the first and last time. To those coming in from Europe, I would recommend either catching an Amtrack train or renting a car or getting on another bus service. Stay away from Megabus. read more

Its been quite a while since i've ridden a charter bus. It brings back memories of being in high school band and making those long road trips for football games. I booked 3 days before my departure and one way to dallas is $18. $18 is still quite a deal if i dont have to deal with driving or stopping at multiple stations for gas. My bus is to depart at 915am. Guidelines say to come 15-30 minutes and i came at 9am. The line was already formed and started boarding at 9:05am. The bus driver will take your reservation number as your check in and you can drop off your bag outside the bus where 2 employees will take it and store it in the back. I was still able to get a seat by myself in the upper deck. The bus driver takes headcount and we were promptly off on the road at 9:13am. The wifi doesn't work but I wasn't counting on it anyways. It wasn't all that cold either so a jacket will do. Blankets are a bit overrated for the ride. There are outlets above the seat so feel free to charge away although Mac chargers would be too heavy and will fall. I had low expectations for megabus so my experience was pleasant. It came right on time to the Dallas downtown station at 1:03pm. I give it 4 stars because compared to the other reviews, my experience was pretty good. read more

Terrible terms and conditions and Costomer service: I booked my tickets from Dallas to Houston for 12/30/2019 at 255pm. I paid $50. Something can up and II knee I can't make it to my trip at 1.20 pm. I called Costomer service, rep said she can't change my reservation. I asked to connect to her supervisor who said the same thing. I wanted to speak with next supervisor to raise my concern , this supervisor said he does not any supervisor and said he has to disconnect my call which he did without resolving this issue. read more

Today my wife took her first trip from Houston to Austin and just called to tell me that the bus have a non working air conditioning system and cannot continue to Austin. Temperatures inside the bus were over 100F! They are at this moment waiting for a mechanic to repair the AC system. It seems a working bus is not available. Beware of this location (Hillcroft metro park and ride, Houston, TX) and its employees. The bus was over one hour late (it happens, not the problem). However, a Megabus bus arrived and just parked, and a woman driver in the driver seat, that seemed either asleep, passed out drunk, or worse, was just sitting with her head on the wheel. Being confused as to what was going on, since the bus was already 30 minutes late, I called Megabus customer service. I explained that when I tried to track the bus online, it said there was no tracking information, but that there was a Megabus parked, with a female driver that seemed asleep, or passed out. The Megabus agent tried to contact the driver directly, but was not able to. So the Megabus agent on the phone instructed me to approach the bus, knock on the door/window, and try to wake up the driver. After several attempts, the driver was not responding. I asked my sister for help, and she knocked on the other side, finally waking up the driver. The driver started screaming at us, and was very threatening. We tried to explain to her that we were on the phone with the Megabus representative, and he wanted to talk to her. The driver continued screaming at us and threatening us, and refused to speak on the phone with the Megabus representative. I asked the driver for her name, but she refused. We went to the Megabus booth, while I was still on the phone with the Megabus representative, and the booth person was also rude and refused to speak with the representative on the phone. I tried to put a complaint against those two employees, but was not able because they refused to give me their names. The time was 4:30 pm on March 28, 2023. read more

This is a terrible company. If it weren't for the other reviewers I'd swear it was a scam. First trip, the "mega" bus never showed so they put us in a rundown regular bus with almost no AC in July and no internet. Said they would refund ou tickets and never did, even though I called. Twice. The second trip I booked online and between when I clicked my date of travel and checking out it reset to today's date. I don't live in Texas, so there's no way I woudl have booked today's date for any reason. I called and they absolutely will not give me a discount or refund of any kind, even to apply to another bust with them. Terrible, snooty customer service. This is a bad business. read more

I took the bus from San Antonio, TX, Parking lot, 840 Probandt St, near Bill Miller BBQ (8:45 AM) to Houston, TX, Katy Mills Mall, Entrance 8 (11:45 AM). After reading the reviews, I got a little bit anxious but it was great experience. The bus was cold so I just like a light jacket or blanket. The bus driver genuinely knows what she is doing so that calmed my mind. After arriving at Katy Mills, you can shop,play arcade games, eat, and drink while you are waiting for your ride which is a BIG PLUS. There is map at Katy Mills so you know where you are going. read more

Cheap. Convenient. No frills. You get what you pay for. I have taken Megabus 4 times between Austin and Houston. NEVER expect it to leave or arrive on time. Shortest wait was 20 mins longest was an hour. I know to plan ahead and expect to arrive at my destination at least an hour later. Avoids frustration. I have reserved s seat and just rolled the dice. Either way it's a bus seat. Only benefit I foo d of paying the extra for reserved seat is you get to board first in Austin. And nobody is usually next to you. I have had the same experience with a non reserved seat too. Only reason I dock it one star is for the delays. I do wish they would be better with that. read more

Mega bus is a great way to travel for cheap! I travel for work and like to minimize my budget as small as possible. So when I came upon Megabus, I was very impressed! As I'm writing this review, I am traveling to San Antonio for $4! I always like to reserve my seats so that way I can guarantee a spot in the top part. (It's so peaceful up there.) Definitely make sure you get there early. Don't want to miss it. It drops you off in the heart of downtown! I've traveled to Houston, Dallas and San Antonio on this bus. My next trip is to do Austin! Horrible customer service, delay in travel, the worst bus system I have ever taken. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID!!! I had a trip scheduled from LIT to DAL and then another connecting trip from DAL to HOU. The pick up at LIT was over 30 min late, and when I had been scheduled to arrive at 5:55 pm I didn't make it until 6:31. My connecting trip was scheduled to depart at 6:25 pm. When I made it to Dallas the bus had already taken off and I was stranded in a city that was over 3 hours away from my final destination. Not only did they not have any more buses heading to Houston that day, causing me to be stranded in Dallas for a night, they would not refund me $17.00 for the ticket THEY had me miss!! I told megabus this was solely their fault and all they could tell me and a few other passengers was that we could purchase a new ticket for the next day. WHAT A JOKE. Unless you want to be stranded in a random city and forced to give into their money trap, I'd recommend taking greyhound and saving yourself the money and hassle. read more
