This is a review for the Stop and the Bus: I have been riding the Megabus for a few years in the Midwest and was really happy that they started providing service in Texas. I got a $25 round trip ticket to Austin for SXSW. This stop is very well organized and they had a lot of employees available to get folks on and off the bus in an orderly fashion. It is also near a major metro bus transit center so there is a lot of light and people milling around. We reached our destination in a good amount of time. The trip back was about an hour late due to terrible traffic on 290. But if I would have driven myself I would have been in that same traffic, and I got to read instead. A tip (that I will probably regret giving) is that there are two tables in the downstairs part of the bus that offer more legroom than the other seats. I try to show up at least 15-20 minutes before time so that I can secure that seat! The wifi is sloooowwww and I couldn't really get it to work on my phone. read more

Cheap. Convenient. No frills. You get what you pay for. I have taken Megabus 4 times between Austin and Houston. NEVER expect it to leave or arrive on time. Shortest wait was 20 mins longest was an hour. I know to plan ahead and expect to arrive at my destination at least an hour later. Avoids frustration. I have reserved s seat and just rolled the dice. Either way it's a bus seat. Only benefit I foo d of paying the extra for reserved seat is you get to board first in Austin. And nobody is usually next to you. I have had the same experience with a non reserved seat too. Only reason I dock it one star is for the delays. I do wish they would be better with that. read more

Mega bus is a great way to travel for cheap! I travel for work and like to minimize my budget as small as possible. So when I came upon Megabus, I was very impressed! As I'm writing this review, I am traveling to San Antonio for $4! I always like to reserve my seats so that way I can guarantee a spot in the top part. (It's so peaceful up there.) Definitely make sure you get there early. Don't want to miss it. It drops you off in the heart of downtown! I've traveled to Houston, Dallas and San Antonio on this bus. My next trip is to do Austin! I took the Megabus from Houston to San Antonio (long story). I had seen the blue double-decker buses driving on I-35 and thought they looked newish and 'cool.' The Megabuses are relatively inexpensive - you book online and get picked up outside a mall in Katy (for me at least). There are buses traveling the "Texas Triangle" (Houston-San Antonio-Dallas-Houston) several times a day. However, I found 'my' Megabus to be a disappointment. It was not a bright blue, double decker but an old depressing sort of Greyhound style bus (operated by Kerrville Bus Co). It was OK but not what I expected - and there was no mention of this change on their website when I booked the ticket. I'll try them again but can't say that I was blown away.... read more

From Dallas to Houston: Summer of 2014 I feel bad for people who had horrible experience because I had a great experience. I am a cheap asian so I am willing to save a dollar here or there except (spirit airline, i'll never tried that)I lowered my expectation rock bottom and omg I was surprised. It had -AC -Wifi -Comfortable seat -Funny driver that won't put up with people playing music loud, or on their phone loud You see I am a geologist, I plan and prepare better than the average human. I brought -Food -water but not too much because you are going to pee and i don't like public restroom, i rather pee in a bush -Blanket -Pillow -ear plugs -laptop -phone -chargers -headphones -clean socks (nobody wants to smell your nasty feet) -most importantly, SLEEPING PILL. its only agonizing if you are awake. DUH BUAHAH this all fits in a backpack. I hate road trips but I am cheap and i also drive a sports car, so yeah you get the drift. read more

With tickets starting at $1 each way to Dallas, this is a steal. Plus I have taken the one from Boston to New York without issue. Ticket prices get higher as your travel date approaches. Well, I am currently waiting in line for my bus as I am writing this review. The bus was supposed to depart at 7:15 a.m. and it is now currently past 8:00 a.m.. I have called customer service, and I find it absurd that they cannot locate the bus or the driver. We have been told that the driver is not picking up his or her phone. There will be many angry customers once the driver arrives. Getting comped for a free ride would not even be worth it. I paid $6 for my ticket. Also, this station is a makeshift station in a downtown parking lot. There is no shade except for a small tent in the front of the line. There are no restrooms around unless you have access to a nearby office. Simply unacceptable. Save your money and drive or even take a Greyhound. At this rate, it may be quicker! EDIT: I have bumped up the rating from one star to two stars. Perhaps the bus I was scheduled to be on was a complete fluke. It actually never came, and I boarded the 9:15 a.m. bus. No one still knows what happened. It appears that all the other buses are pretty timely and leave and arrive within 5 minutes of the scheduled times. The restroom on board is clean and sanitary. I like not having to worry about driving and being able to sleep or do other things during the ride time. However, I did discover a few more cons. Wi-fi - don't even bother expecting it to work. I was able to connect to it, but it was horribly slow and worked half the time I tried. Bring a book to read, movie to watch, or nap on the ride. Temperature - it is FREEZING on this bus. Even the guys thought it was cold. Bring a jacket or blanket! I would recommend Megabus for those who have a fairly flexible schedule and want a cheap way to getting from point A to point B. However, if things go wrong, do not expect the employees or customer service to do anything about it. read more

Just say no! Both legs of my trip from Houston to San Antonio were 1.5 hours late. The bus stop is nothing more than a dirty parking lot with no covering or shade, no seating, bathroom, etc.. I'd rather not go than to do this again. In all fairness, the bus itself was nice, clean and the ride was fine. But the service is terribly unreliable so I'll drive next time. read more

Pros: Cheap, save your car usage and your personal drive time. Cons: bus station is a dirty parking lot, africa hot outside and no cover, no organizarion, employees hate their job and the people using the service cause it means they have to actually do work (OUTSIDE) in the heat than be on their phones or chatting with eachother. I needed a means to get from Houston to Dallas. I really dislike driving long distances and flying was a bit out of my budget. My friends have previously suggested taking a coach bus, so I decided to check it out. Pricing I was looking into Megabus ($23 one-way) and the Greyhound ($20 one-way if you buy a week beforehand). Keep in mind these are weekend rates. Traveling during the weekday is going to be much cheaper. I went with Megabus because they offered Wi-Fi and power outlets. Considering driving to/from would cost me about $80 in gas, this option seemed more practical. Location The Houston Downtown stop/station is in a small, empty lot RIGHT on the corner of Pierce and Travis. You can't really miss the blue double tiered bus. Unfortunately, there is no parking so you have to kind of stop along the curb and get dropped/picked up. You'll show one of the representatives your reservation code and they'll check you off a list. Do NOT be late. The bus usually departs on time. Amenities The Wi-Fi worked, but it is incredibly slow so don't expect to watch any movies during your trip. I mainly browsed Facebook and Gchatted. I didn't try the power outlets or bathrooms so can't comment on those. However, I would suggest just to avoid consuming liquids while on the bus, and just circumvent the bathroom ordeal. Rarely are these specific facilities pleasant. All in all, it was about what I expected for the price. Obviously, it is not my preferred option, but in my case, it is the most reasonable. The staff were quite nice, and I even got to my destination earlier than expected! You'll encounter some interesting people, no doubt, but that'll inevitably happen in any scenario. Just pop in your headphones, sit back, and try to relax. Oh, also if you're going to sit on the top deck, avoid seats right under the vent. Otherwise, I hope you brought a nice jacket because you'll get a bit chilly. read more

After discovering that an old college friend was in Austin for the weekend, I was inspired to look at making my first visit to that city--United's $375 fare seemed a bit much, though, and my bartender suggested Megabus. So, the night before departure, I found myself at the bar with a confirmation for a Houston-Austin round-trip for only $18.50--that price was much more palatable. I easily located the departure parking lot, where the bus to New Orleans was boarding when I arrived. The Austin bus was slightly behind schedule, and we departed at 8:01 AM from a scheduled 7:45. The time wasn't made up en route, but I consider 15 minutes a perfectly acceptable delay. The parking lot was somewhat dingy, and could have used someone taking five minutes to pick up empty cups and wrappers. The bus itself was new and clean and the ride to Austin went smoothly. The return the next day was much the same, but we took off on time and arrived in Houston half an hour early. Score! The only annoyance of the return journey was the inane safety video, which was clearly produced by someone from the airline industry. Avoiding the infant alizarin that goes with air travel is one of the benefits of staying on the ground, and I hope that when the video gets updated it's shortened and aimed at someone with a greater mental capacity than a six-year old. As all the previous reviewers noted, the wifi didn't work, but I always had a good cell signal for data and wasn't inconvenienced. I'll be giving Megabus a go for New Orleans in a few weeks and hope the experience is equally good. read more

Beware of this location (Hillcroft metro park and ride, Houston, TX) and its employees. The bus was over one hour late (it happens, not the problem). However, a Megabus bus arrived and just parked, and a woman driver in the driver seat, that seemed either asleep, passed out drunk, or worse, was just sitting with her head on the wheel. Being confused as to what was going on, since the bus was already 30 minutes late, I called Megabus customer service. I explained that when I tried to track the bus online, it said there was no tracking information, but that there was a Megabus parked, with a female driver that seemed asleep, or passed out. The Megabus agent tried to contact the driver directly, but was not able to. So the Megabus agent on the phone instructed me to approach the bus, knock on the door/window, and try to wake up the driver. After several attempts, the driver was not responding. I asked my sister for help, and she knocked on the other side, finally waking up the driver. The driver started screaming at us, and was very threatening. We tried to explain to her that we were on the phone with the Megabus representative, and he wanted to talk to her. The driver continued screaming at us and threatening us, and refused to speak on the phone with the Megabus representative. I asked the driver for her name, but she refused. We went to the Megabus booth, while I was still on the phone with the Megabus representative, and the booth person was also rude and refused to speak with the representative on the phone. I tried to put a complaint against those two employees, but was not able because they refused to give me their names. The time was 4:30 pm on March 28, 2023. read more

My six foot frame felt a bit cramped, the air was as cold as some have complained, and the wifi didn't work. Abundant power outlets helped compensate for that, as I could use 4G. But the ride was smooth enough to nap, and any trip you can call uneventful is a good one. read more

Took Megabus from Oklahoma City to Houston with a transfer in Dallas (Grand Prairie). Booked my ticket the day before and paid $34.50 for round trip. The trip from OKC to Dallas was downright pleasant. I had a seat in the front of the top level and had a nice view of everything. Power outlets worked fine and I was able to charge my phone and iPad. Wifi didn't work (didn't even pick up the network) so I tethered from my phone instead. It sucked a little but I wasn't too upset since I'm used to not being able to even use my phone on flights, plus it was raining and I was happy to be relaxing in my seat instead of driving. The temperature on the top level was comfortable despite what I'd read. The Grand Prairie stop was much busier. The OKC-Dallas bus was a little late so I didn't get first dibs on a seat going to Houston. The second bus was FREEZING. Not cold. FREEZING. the bus thankfully arrived on time in Houston and stepping off was almost shocking because of the difference in temperature between inside the bus and outside. I will never ride this again without bringing a blanket -- not just a little throw blanket, but a real freaking blanket. The stop in Houston is a parking lot across from the normal Houston bus terminal with a few little event tents. It didn't bother me too much since its probably a cost-cutting measure to help keep their ticket prices low. Fine by me. The buses themselves were new to very new, very clean and about as comfortable as a bus can be. The upstairs is all sunroof on top, I think they turn the a/c on to counter balance the heat coming in from the clear roof because when I was riding during the day it was definitely warmer than at night. The buses are generally pretty empty and both trips I had the row to myself. Definitely more comfortable and less "ghetto" than Greyhound, and cheaper than flying. I hate airport security and it was nice not getting frisked before traveling. The a/c plugs all worked and I was able to watch movies on my iPad without worrying about the battery dying. If you're looking for an inexpensive means of getting around the state and neighboring states and don't need a lot of frills, Megabus isn't entirely awful. It's pretty relaxed and they get you from A to B for less than what it'd cost for gas to drive yourself. read more

Being a involuntary expert on intercity bus travel thanks to Greyhound, I was excited for my first trip on Megabus. $5.50 round trip between Houston and San Antonio - a one day vacation which was idiotic because I love San Antonio and should have stayed longer. I've read the horror stories of Megabus and Boltbus in the Northeast - as I'm from Brooklyn. Waiting in horrible weather conditions (due to no terminal) for a late bus can be traumatic. Well, congratulations Megabus, because you were on time for both departures that day. The Megabus "station" is right across from the Downtown Transit Center in Downtown. Literally blocks from the Greyhound station, it's relatively easy to get to with the easy exit on Interstate 45 for Pierce Street. My mom was dropping me off, and we noticed we could enter a parking lot and either wait in a line (she used this line to pick me up) and at least 25 parking spaces. There was no bus there yet; we were 20 minutes early but we knew we were in the right place because we saw a tent and one other traveler with luggage. I didn't even notice the bus pull in - my mom did - and I got out of the car, took the 30 foot journey to the bus driver, pulled out my ticket, didn't even have to show ID, and I was exploring Megabus for the first time. I sat in the upper level. Now, to address complaints, lets go down the scale: 1) "I'm too tall, the upper deck was cramped." First off, unless your Shaq, the bus is wonderful. I'm 6'0, I always complain about leg-room, it was perfect. 2) WIFI - going to San Antonio, I didn't have a brilliant connection, but at least I had one. I had to give the San Antonio Yelp page one star less because I couldn't even connect on the way. Just replace these old geezer routers with cheaper, faster ones so we can connect Megabus! 3) It was colder than the North Pole. No. It wasn't. Certainly not in the upper deck. During the day, the sun is pouring through the top. It was definitely comfortable for someone wearing clothes for a nice day outside (60 degrees or so). I definitely will ride again, no doubt about it, the Greyhound station in Houston should be under the definition of trash. First experience and my last! Departure to my destination left 90 min late, return trip left two hours late. WiFi did not work at all on the way, slow band width on the way home. The bus "station" has nothing to offer. Expect no seating, no restroom, no food or drink nearby even from a neighboring business. Their marketing leads you to believe this is a great way to go. Just got back from a horrendous trip with Megabus. An outdated Coach bus was substituted for a Megabus, and lacked outlets, reliable Wi-Fi, or sufficient AC, leaving the bus uncomfortably hot and stuffy even on just a 80 degree day. While the above might be an unlucky fluke from insufficient new buses, the staff's treatment of customers was rude and demeaning through both legs of the trip. Three customers were left behind from another bus that had closed its door but not departed. The tone toward customers is frequently rushed and condescending. Most shockingly of all, the driver drove off route, stopping in the middle of a downtown street to get out and look up directions. Really! The baffled riders were discussing among ourselves whether it would even be worth the time dealing with their rude customer service to get a rebate for a bus service we may never want to ride again. The convenient routes and decent fares may occasionally make this a gamble worth taking. But be sure to arrive early, with low expectations for quality, AC, and Wi-Fi, and a thick skin for their rudeness. read more

I traveled backed to Dallas this morning and it was raining unfortunately. I arrived at the pick up location around 7 am for a 7:30 departure. No buses were in site. Two buses finally arrived around 7:20a.m. One going to San Antonio and the other leaving for Dallas. Now the bus driver for our bus sat in the bus for a few minutes before opening the doors for loading the passengers and luggage. It just really sucks to stand out in the rain getting soaked and you feel like people are taking there time getting people and luggage on board. The driver got us back to Dallas fast and safely and I am appreciative of that. Other then the rain, and having to use the bus disgusting bathroom it wasn't a bad trip. I don't necessarily want to ride the bus again. I would prefer to fly but if I had to I wouldn't mind doing so. Suggestion: Limit your water intake so you can decrease your bathroom trips. As a girl it really suck trying to balance yourself squatting over the toilet as the bus is bouncing down the high way. They have hand rails to use but with the smell and close quarters I just wanted to hurry up and get out. I hate public bathrooms and I hate them 10x more on buses. Getting a reserved set is not needed. I would say the only benefit is if you are traveling with a group of people. Or if it's raining they will allow you to broad first. Bring a blanket. They keep it pretty cold and they claim that the temp can't be adjusted. read more

Horrible customer service, delay in travel, the worst bus system I have ever taken. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID!!! I had a trip scheduled from LIT to DAL and then another connecting trip from DAL to HOU. The pick up at LIT was over 30 min late, and when I had been scheduled to arrive at 5:55 pm I didn't make it until 6:31. My connecting trip was scheduled to depart at 6:25 pm. When I made it to Dallas the bus had already taken off and I was stranded in a city that was over 3 hours away from my final destination. Not only did they not have any more buses heading to Houston that day, causing me to be stranded in Dallas for a night, they would not refund me $17.00 for the ticket THEY had me miss!! I told megabus this was solely their fault and all they could tell me and a few other passengers was that we could purchase a new ticket for the next day. WHAT A JOKE. Unless you want to be stranded in a random city and forced to give into their money trap, I'd recommend taking greyhound and saving yourself the money and hassle. read more

Following an unexpected car breakdown, I was forced to buy a last-minute Megabus ticket between Austin and Houston. I'd heard about the service before -- and was familiar with Megabus in general, having lived in the Northeast where it first started out -- but hadn't previously used it. Pros: 1. It's (comparatively) cheap. Even my last-minute reservation for a reserved seat (top floor, front row) was only $25. 2. It has a good number of amenities for a cheap bus. I knew beforehand that its buses were equipped with wi-fi, but not that a standard 110V power outlet was available on every row. (Granted, the outlet is located near the ceiling on the window passenger's side, which isn't terribly convenient.) 3. It's reasonably efficient. The drivers and ground coordinators are pros, and work to expedite the boarding process as quickly as possible. Cons: 1. The wi-fi sucks. I tested its speed several times; the *fastest* time I recorded was 30 kilobytes per second, which is roughly on par with dialup-modem speeds from 20 years ago. (Seriously.) It was slow enough as to be effectively unusable. 2. It has no formal "stations" to speak of -- although to be fair, that's always been the case - back when it was simply "the Chinatown bus" transporting passengers between the respective Chinatowns of NYC, D.C. and Boston, it always picked up passengers at the curb, much like a standard city bus. The problem, however, is that in Megabus's case, it generally has a couple *hundred* people queuing for buses, all in outdoor locations; downtown, their pickup spot is next to the terminus for the city's bus system. I imagine that waiting for the bus either in summer heat or during a thunderstorm would be quite miserable. 3. Its technology in general sucks. Wi-fi aside, Megabus's website is spectacularly unhelpful -- and that's assuming you can even get *on* to it in the first place. Forget about any features along the lines of what you'd see on an airline's site, e.g. arrival-time updates. Furthermore, customer service -- both via email and phone -- is similarly nonexistent, or at least effectively so. 4. You're out of luck if a bus is either running late or cancelled altogether. My bus was 90 minutes late due to its driver calling in sick, though thankfully another driver came in on his day off to drive us to Houston. Your best bet in terms of an on-time arrival is probably taking one of the first buses of the day. Pro tip: if you're driving yourself to a pickup stop and can't otherwise get a ride, *definitely* use their stops at Katy Mills Mall and on Hwy. 290. Both provide parking, whereas downtown there are no parking options aside from paid lots and garages. Also, bring water and snacks, since you probably won't be stopping for them anywhere. Finally, if you're traveling solo and don't want to get stuck sitting next to a weirdo or perv (or anyone else), just buy two seats for yourself. read more

I booked a last minute reservation to Dallas from Houston last week. On our way to Dallas, I honestly felt like I was better off walking 275 miles, but realize I didn't have shoes or time for that so I just clinched my teeth & my purse the entire 5 HOUR ride there. I don't understand why it took so long to get to Dallas but it was the most uncomfortable trip I've ever experience between the smells and the random drug users abroad I just wanted off. I return to the bus for my departure ride back to Houston which was way more pleasant. Tip: if you have to take megabus travel during the day while the sun is still out. I still view Megabus as an okay choice for travel, but the price to quality ratio isn't as competitive as it used to be. 1) The customer service is pretty atrocious. It's almost not even worth the heartache of trying to call them if you have a problem. have reached out to their customer service for help a few times for help, and felt like it was a joke. 2) Greyhound is competitive on a price to quality standpoint. Although....the Houston Greyhound station is sketchier than the Megabus station. 3) If you are looking for a higher end option, Vonlane is far and away the best option. read more

I can't say enough about the great service that Megabus provides! It is cheap, convenient, and comfortable. And the Houston location even has a closed-in waiting room equipped with televisions!!!! On the 18th of December in DaLas. We are 3 together trying to go back to Houston with Mega bus #49060 and the driver"s name is Ms Lisa. it was around 4.43 to 5 pm. The driver came to where we were sitting and asked the Chinese lady who I guess was sitting at #24 - window set to get up for me because it was my assigned seat. She stated " we are maintaining social distance and want everyone to sit at assigned seat". The lady passenger ignored her several times and later they argued and she brought her receipt to proved her seat.. While they were arguing, I told the driver that I don mind sitting at the back because the bus was very scanty. When the passenger pulled her receipt then the driver asked me to seat very close to her which was #23. I told her that i rather seat at the back seating that the passenger was was coughing constantly when they both were arguing since. Instantly, the driver became very angry at me for not sitting close to coughing lady she argued with. My son came and respectfully said" mam, pls let my mom seat at the back seeing that the bus is empty and the lady coughing will be close to get. The driver also asked my don to step down the bus which we did. To my greatest surprise , the driver asked the other megabus staff who was on the bus side to give us our bags . I thought I was in a bad dream. I asked her what we have done to deserve it.She rudely said that she will not carry 3 of us. I then asked her to give us our money back and she said to call mega bus. It was the lady staff that I asked us to call mega bus and report the incident. Am sure the whole thing will be in the bus video to proof what O said. I couldn't believe it cause I would have video the whole thing myself. This Ms Lisa was totally out of place and very rude. Not terrible. Took the bus from Dallas to Houston and back for an overnight stay. The bus down from Dallas seemed to be a bit older and we didn't think of lining up early for the primo seats and were stuck in the back at the top. My seat didn't seem to recline, which made for a bit of discomfort. Going from Houston to Dallas, we stood in the rainy drizzle to get on sooner and had a better pick of our seats. I finally got one that reclined! I didn't experience the super cold bus that others mention in reviews. Not a terrible way to travel between the big Texas cities. I can't say it beats driving my own car, but in instances where you just don't want to drive, it is nice. If you are traveling with someone, either reserve a seat, or try to line up earlier so that you can sit together. We didn't use the wifi, so can't comment on its quality, but our phone charger kept falling out of the plug. Not really a huge issue since there was a plug and it would at least stay plugged for a bit before coming out. read more

Lack of staffing to direct traffic (cars and human). Lack of information updates for passengers waiting for a late bus. Yes we are more than 30 min late. Overheard the bus driver talking on the phone he will be out of hours before getting to Dallas, we're still in downtown Houston. He asked if he should get back to the station. Took the Megabus from Houston (Pierce street )to Dallas today. It was raining a bit but there was an inside waiting room. I upgraded to a reserved seat. The seat faced backwards but it worked out fine. The bus left on time and arrived 10 minutes earlier than expected. The temp on the bus was a bit cool, but I had read reviews warning of this and had my jacket on. The charging station at my seat worked find and I had downloaded some Netflix and Amazon shows to watch. The bus driver was good and no driving problems. I waited a bit late to get any fare deals but it was cheaper than a tank of gasoline. Better experience than I had expected. Pleased. read more

I purchased a ticket for travel between NOLA and Houston for myself and my mobility aid (a scooter) and megabus refused to load the scooter under or in the bus. The scooter breaks down into 4 parts all less than 40 lbs. The driver called the superior officer and she said they would not carry a scooter. Southwest Airlines carried it 5 days before from the gate down the gangway stairs to under storage and back up the stairs to me upon arrival; And megabus would not move it 10 feet. You know the other passengers loved being delayed 20 minutes. Ultimately, I had to leave my scooter in NOLA and pray megabus keeps it safe until my return. read more

The way to get back and forth from Houston. Every trip has been excellent and efficient.

1) Not an "express bus service.". There were several stops between San Antonio and New Orleans including two stops in Houston, and a one hour layover in downtown Houston. 2) Downtown Houston "terminal" is a dirty portable with two vending machines and rude staff. While there, we saw a disabled man struggle to get to his bus which had just shut the door, and the bus driver did not allow him to board and drove away. No staff approached the man to assist him. 3) The AC for overnight bus trips is always way too cold so that you need to dress in pants, jacket or bring a blanket Megabus rides are cheap and the service is fine for short distances. read more

The price is cheap, but the bus kind of smellled. But before even getting on it, I called the customer service because I realized that I had the bus stop wrong and wanted to get on the same bus at a later stop (there are two stops in Dallas and I wanted to get on the later stop instead). But I was told that I would not be let on the bus if I got on at the later stop. Customer service told me to buy a second ticket. This was of great inconvenience to me. I do not see how it is a problem to get on at the later stop instead of the earlier stop. This would have meant that I paid for more bus miles than I used. The customer service line was a human being, but I felt like I was talking to a person reading off of a prewritten decision tree, not someone who was actively trying to solve my problems. When I told the customer service rep that I would be leaving a bad review on yelp, they made no effort to respond. read more
