Incompetent, Unreliable, Unprofessional, Shady Transportation Company.
I was skeptical to ride the Megabus home from NYC to Boston, but agreed to purchase a ticket in an effort to make the trip more cost effective for a traveler accompanying me. We were scheduled to take the 9:40am Bus NYC to Boston on Sunday, March 10th. We arrived at the designated pick up location (34st b/t 11th and 12th ave) in the pouring rain 15 minutes prior to departure to see a line of people waiting, and three Megabus employees standing in a circle socializing, offering no attention, guidance or assistance. We tried to get their attention to ask them if we were in the right line, to no avail. There was a bus parked next to this line of people, with the driver sitting in the drivers seat, texting on her phone. At about 5 minutes to departure, we noticed the bus pull into the street and then light the display 'Boston' on the side. Frantic, we ran to the bus door to motion to the driver that this was our bus. She shook her head rudely, and disregarded us as she pulled into the street. We doubled back to the group of employees on the sidewalk, pleading with them to help us flag the driver and board the bus. One employee shrugged his shoulders and said, "sorry - you gotta call customer service" - to which we replied, "this bus is leaving early, and nobody helped us to understand if it was ours!". He them replied "what the F do you want me to do, run in front of the bus?!" I replied, "No - I just want you to try to be a competent employee." Frustrated, soaked, I ran back to the bus which was stopped in the street, waiting at a red light. I tried to flag the driver from the side, but she ignored me. I then pulled my luggage with me, stood in front of the bus, pulled out my ticket and waved it in her face, telling her this was my bus and she was leaving early. She shook her head, and pulled out her phone (likely to call the company to report her 'on time departute'). I took her photo and ran to catch a cab to Penn, where I paid $300 for an Amtrak home.
I proceeded to call Customer Service. They showed no sympathy for this 'inconvenience' and told me that because the bus was reported to leave on time, there was nothing they could do. No refund, no credit, no sympathy. I happen to be employed by a firm that measures the impact of customer experience offered by companies, and I can say without a doubt, this is the lousiest, most crooked, transportation company in business. Don't do business with them - they have all the resources and infrastructure to provide a decent service - but their incompetent employees creates a SEVERE lack of customer experience. I will NEVER take Megabus, and I'll caution others against it as well. read more
