I had a great time traveling from Boston to New York with this company. Unfortunately, I was late and I missed my bus but for $5.00 I was able to get on the next one. The bus is pretty clean, air conditioner is not that cold which is awesome, the lights are great if you are reading on your way to your destination. Seats are spacious, also my busses were on time ( most of the reviews I read before buying my tickets said they were late). Every seat comes with a plug for you to charge your phone, etc. read more

This company deserves ZERO stars . Worst transportation service I have ever experienced. Half the stuff onboard is broken . I paid extra for assigned seating which were more uncomfortable then general seating . There are zero rules or expectations on board . It's a free for all . Customers are allowed to be unsafe and cause hazards . We had to crawl into the luggage area underneath to retrieve our luggage afterwards because it had been thrown so far back that it was unreachable. Customer service is appalling. They cut and paste the same message over and over . No acknowledgment of any issues and no recognition of any customer suggestions. Public transportation at less then half of this bus service and a much better experience, then this horrific company . They advertise free wifi and plug ins. FALSE . Half of the seats don't recline. Broken . Please DONT waste your time with this company . I recommend Flixbus , Peter Pan or greyhound . read more

Megabus - Customers are allowed to block isles and use speak phone for 4.5 hours . Ridiculous - Transportation Near Me

Should have guessed by the two star rating... We get to the bus station, walking by many old busses to get to our shiny new Megabus. As we get to it, I turn to my brother and jokingly say "watch us get there and it be an old PeterPan bus with a sticker on it". We laughed, knowing that MegaBus has two floor buses which we have come to love and expect. We were excited to do some work on this five hour ride, and eagerly approached the new Megabus parked at the end of the lot. As we walked towards it an employee looked at us, and with a big smile said "You'll be taking this one today" she said, while motioning towards an old decrepit looking bus parked next to the MegaBus. My heart sank. As I walked in, the seats were all ripped and people were crammed together like no tomorrow. Little girls were crying because they were separated from their families. The seats smelled horrible and it was not at all what we were expecting. We even booked Megabus over other companies, while there were cheaper options, solely because they have nicer busses. We should have known better. What a disgrace. Can't trust this company. read more

I wish i saw these poor reviews before wasting my money and time on such a bad service. I came back to yelp especially to leave this poor review of this company that calls what it provides as service. I wish there was a lower star than one star !! Megabus - and that was waaaaaaaaaaay before the trip - Transportation Near Me

I used to take Megabus all the time before covid, and now that I am willing to travel again, I have returned. I never had issues before now: This trip, they changed the bus from a double decker to a community bus last minute with an email notification only 34 minutes before depature. The seats are smaller than the Megabus buses, so there's no space to use my laptop for work on Word. It was way too hot at first as the vents only blew hot air if you used them and the bus was as full as it could be, extremely unpleasant. It got more bearable when they turned off the heat. read more

Don't waste your time and money with Megabus. Pick any other company just don't waste your time. I wish that was a zero star to give, Megabus deserves a negative 5 stars this is the worst bus ever. Cancelled the first trip then the second one then delayed the third by sending another email saying will be late 90-120 min. There is no one you can talk to. Customer service number been disconnected not working, driver is horrible the employees who's working to check you in are by far the worst employees I never seen in my entire life. The bus never leaves or arrives on time... don't expect any sweet of customer service it's none existent. I WILL NEVER USE THIS HORRIBLE BUS AGAIN IN MY LIFE. I will never recommend this bus to anyone, I will advise everyone I know to void this awful company. AWFUL HORRIBLE HORRIBLE WORST SERVICE read more

I can't stress this enough. DO NOT TAKE MEGABUS ANYWHERE. Our bus left 45 minutes after its scheduled time. Our driver made several stops saying he was exhausted and that it was "too dangerous" for him to drive. Dangerous?! Are you kidding me? On his last stop at a random truck stop 2 hours from our destination, the driver informs us he will not be continuing and that another driver is on the way. After about an hour I finally had to take a lyft to a nearby train station to get to my destination. NOT WORTH THE CHEAP TICKET. AVOID MEGABUS! And of course, all we received was an email saying they knew of the situation and that they were sending another driver. 15-20 minutes my ass! read more

I am currently sitting on the side of the road In a Megabus about 1 hour outside of NYC. They are sending another bus, yet it won't arrive for another hour, and we will get to NYC over 4 hours after our original arrival time. Rude drivers, dirty & rundown buses, and awful customer service. Please don't give this company your money and maybe they will go out of business. read more

the megabus is the worse service in the all USA I was waiting for the bus going from New York to Pittsburg, the bus was supposed to leave at 11:50 pm and at 11:30 pm they send us a email saying that the trip was cancelled and to get a refund. Im still waiting for the money to be refunded and I lost my time I had to pay for hotel and lost my RBNB money. I wish I could sue that company for the worse costumer service. read more

I was on a bus from New York to Boston and it was pretty sad honestly. It was pouring outside, and I was on the top floor, somehow, the roof started to leak! Me and my friends I was traveling with were getting soaked! Not just that, but we stopped for food which was good, but the driver told us it would be a 20 min stop and then it ended up being 30 min which made me late. And after we left he accidentally left the intercom on for a solid half hour. It was really gross, we could hear him coughing. The seats were extremely uncomfortable, one of my friends got rug burn and many tried to sleep on the floor instead. Definitely would not recommend, especially not for long trips like the one I was on. read more

Megabus - Puddles from the leaks - Transportation Near Me

OK, let me tell you a story. My brother and I booked a megabus from South Station in Boston to New York. Nothing special so far. The reason we got megabus and not the countless other bus lines offering an identical service was for one reason. Only one. The bus design that megabus uses is a double decker, spacious layout which gives the customer room to lounge or, in our case, work. This detail was essential and the company promises it. When we showed up to begin our journey, we were greeted with a typical megabus double decker flanked by two other bus lines. At which point we were promptly directed to go to ANOTHER COMPANY'S BUS. The bus was, of course, a single decker, but even worse, it was one of the most cheaply built coach buses I've been on in years. Middle schools charter better coach buses for goddamn field trips. Hell, even school buses are built to a higher standard. Why on God's green earth would we pay for a megabus ticket if the actual bus we're going to actually use is worse in quality than any other busline's coach buses... read more

Everytime I think "maybe they will get better I should try them one more time" I shoot myself in the foot. I type this as I am sitting on the side of the highway since OUR BUS BROKE DOWN 10 MINUTES INTO OUR TRIP. The replacement bus that was supposed to come get us flew past us on the highway 30 minutes ago. Its now raining and we will have to go outside, get our bags and HOPE to get a seat on another bus that comes by. Should I mention this has happened before? How about the time the bus was 4 hours late? Or a cop pulled the bus over? Or the time I sat on the side of the road in Connecticut for an hour? How about the time the bus pulled over and waited an hour for a replacement driver because the driver could not longer be on the clock halfway through the trip? JUST DONT DO IT. BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE, ANYWHERE ELSE. GO GET A DONKEY IT WOULD BE FASTER!!! Update: customer service hung up on me 3 times when I asked for money back. I found their corporate office the number is 201-225-7500 ext 7530. The dispatcher said this is the link to the higher ups. read more

This is an update, please see the original also to help put some context around this one! You know, there's such a thing as Murphy's Law, which states "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong". In practice, when you are in a hurry, all lights will be red, and when you need to stop, they will all be green. Keep in mind it is Murphy's Law, not Murphy's Theory... Okay, so I've used Megabus many times, but back in May, I had rather unpleasant experience. To top of it, this time I took my parents with me, having only pleasant experiences in the past. Now, I'm a fairly reasonable person, I realize that stuff happens beyond the control of the bus line. Extreme traffic, construction, weather, etc. etc. A delay is unpleasant, but does not automatically cause a lost star... so what does? Not keeping people properly informed. My bus was supposed to leave at 8:00 AM from South Station, At first we were told that hopefully the delay is small (15 minutes), but after the 15 minutes were told it would be another hour. Okay, fine, stuff happens. Meanwhile, there are people lining up for the 9:00 AM bus and they are in the dark, no one came out to inform them what was going on. Planes and trains have delays too, but they are much better at keeping people apprised, even if electronically. Also, some form of refund is only given in the event the delay being over 2 hours. Tickets are fairly inexpensive, but this is more a matter of principle. One other thing... regarding the toilets... when I wrote the last review, I had used the facilities close to the start of the trip. Last time I went to use them during the middle of the trip. Unfortunately, conditions get rather gross as the trip continues. Please be mindful, squatting on a moving bus is almost impossible. Alright, so what can be done? Well, it is a toilet like in a port-a-potty, but... I've been on Flixbus in Europe (which is one company with Megabus), their toilets actually flush. This would go a long way in making the facilities much more pleasant. read more

NY - Boston. I was late in booking, unfortunately no train left, neither limobus. Had to go Megabus. 11.40 bus. 1h late departure...every bus was late. seems no one care, neither apology for. You are just left there waiting, hoping for something to happen. There were some issues on the road. there was some bad accident and had to make a detour. But nothing can justify the driver and neither Mega bus customer service. Terrible. 3pm Somehow (I still do not understand), we got the wrong road and got stuck on a dead end in the middle of nowhere, literally. Driver decide to make a crazy turn, on a steep non paved road. in 2 second we get stuck....from then on, chaos..no communication, traveler left alone in the middle of nowhere. Driver kept messing around trying to get the bus back, which made it worst. I manage to escape, took a ride from another traveler who called AAA...got to Stamford and rent a car. Trains were fully booked, so the car was a good option to share with a few other passenger. read more

I just took Megabus from Boston to NYC and I was pleasantly pleased. I do not like the bus. I prefer taking the train, but the price for the bus just can't be beat. I bought my tickets online and paid $1 extra per seat to get a specific, numbered seat. It was worth it as we got to skip most of the line and we had really great seats on the upper level. The bus was very clean and had huge windows as well as sky lights. When seated upstairs, there is a lot of light and makes a dreary bus ride a little more enjoyable. A nice point is that we didn't stop at a lousy fast food place in CT that only wastes time. Also, the driver took us off of I-95 as we got into NYC and came in through the Major Deegan vs. driving headlong into the worst traffic imaginable. read more

The bus broke down on highway. Driver didn't help us get the luggage out so everyone was struggling and fighting each other to find their suitcases. It was chaotic like a zombie attack or something. Despite it being late, Megabus had an employee at gate giving us updates. He was friendly and polite. He answered patrons' questions, even the same repetitive ones without any attitude. Bus arrived 25 minute but was fully boarded and on the road in 15 minutes. The person sitting next to me was the type who has no concept of personal space. Elbows into my seat and legs sprawled out. Really people! I don't appreciate being squished into my space. When I asked said rude rider to mind where he knees and his elbows were, he mumbled in spanish. Turned to his girlfriend and complained. Dude, spanish is not unique. I understood what you said, you asshole. Oh did I just say that out loud? Excuse me, you said worse in espanol! Back to megabus, not horrific like most yelpers have reviewed. We did make a random stop on the side of road just before getting into nys. The driver checked for something. We made very good time and got to nyc in 4 hrs. So the ride was not great due to the company! read more

What I just sent to Megabus.com... USE BOLT instead!!!! I wanted you guys to know that the ride I had on your bus today was unacceptable. The bus was a 630 bus, meaning it should leave at 630, we didn't leave until 720. Then the driver pulled over, closed the door, and ran to go to the bathroom 2.5 hours into our trip, obviously knowing how gross the bathroom on the bus was, and didn't let us off. I have taken many of the buses from different carriers, and yours was just as bad as the worst of the china town buses. Had a terrific experience with MegaBus last week-end. On Thursday, I found out that someone had a spare ticket for me to a Yankees game in the Bronx and with less than 48 hours before the game, I had to find a way to get to NYC. I immediately checked Greyhound but their scheduling didn't work out for me since I had to get to the city before 11am on Saturday (the game was at 1pm). I then checked Megabus and they had a bus leaving from Back Bay at 6:30am and arriving at NYC at 11:50. I booked the ticket for $18.50. Everything was done online, very easily and efficiently. Arrived at Back Bay and the bus arrived at 6:20. A nice, big, double-decked bus which had wifi, electric outlets and televisions. Oh and they even had individual fans and lights (kind of like on the airplanes...) It was spaceous, it was clean and the driver who checked our confirmation numbers was very friendly and efficient. The ride was smooth and we arrived to the sound of Sinatra's New York New York a few minutes early, at 10:40. It was a great experience and will most likely be my go-to bus company for any further trips from Boston to NY and possibly more destinations as I was told that they are going to expand. read more

It's easy to offer "free" WiFi when it's so slow you end up switching back to the data plan on your phone. It took so long to download the yelp app on their wifi to leave this review that I gave up. I know it's not a fluke because it was the same on the way up from NY. On the way back we got to the gate early. The 5:30pm bus was loading. We had 6pm tickets. We asked the guy if we could just go on the current bus if there were seats available (the bus was 1/2 empty). He said we had to pay $5 each to switch. I don't care what the policy is. There were seats open and we paid full price. They should have let us go. That's the sort of petty inflexibility that turns you off a company. Megabus, you can thank your policy and, or your fine gate attendant for this being our last ride. Too bad really because other than the above, the experience was passable. read more

I'm going to preface this review by saying that even a 1-star rating is more than what this shitty company deserves. I booked a bus ride for for Friday night of Columbus day weekend and they emailed me Thursday afternoon (the day before my trip) saying that for "operational reasons" my trip has to be cancelled. WTF is an operational reason? The buses have better caught on fire, otherwise I ain't buying it. The only compensation I get is either a free-trip modification (which is useless since there are no other available trips) and a free-refund (which is also useless because now I have to pay more than double what I originally paid for a similar bus-ride back from another busline). The real icing on the cake here is you lose your booking fee if you do request the refund. A total fucking S C A M Additionally, if you normally want to modify a trip, they make you pay a $7 modification fee which is absurd. They should really take the 'u' of their name and change it to MegaBS because they really don't give a shit about u and are full of shit. If you decide to give this horrible company your business, you have been warned. Stick with Peter Pan and Greyhound, their buses are more comfortable anyways. read more

Things to expect if you ride Megabus, specifically BOS to NYC and vice versa. 1. Expect to depart late and arrive late. Give yourself AT LEAST a 30 min to 90 min buffer. 2. WiFi doesn't work. Ever. 3. Numbered seats are for those who reserved and paid in advance. 4. South station (BOS) attendants will look at your reservation number ahead of time and give you a card. You give this card back as you board. Attendants at 34th b/t 11th and 12th ave wait til 15 min after departure time to barely look at your reservation as you board. 5. Pick up area in NYC (mentioned above) is a trek. Terrible in the summer standing in the sun or freezing your butt off in the winter. 6. Bathroom reeks. Hold it if you can. 7. Round trip tickets are comparable to most other bus companies. Usually less $40 (non-holidays). In general, megabus is no different than any other bus company. It does have the distinction of being a double decker bus so you have views of other ppl on their cars. That is all. read more

HORRIBLE. Took a Megabus down from Boston to NYC and they can't even be reasonably close to on-time. The bus somehow managed to take all the worst possible routes (with consideration to traffic), cutting through Manhattan at the busiest spots. And then, though we were supposed to arrive at Penn Station, they routed us into New Jersey! We also took an unnecessarily long rest stop in Connecticut. As a result, I missed my transfer and was more than an hour late. Moreover, I reserved a seat online while I was booking, and this did NOT show up on my booking confirmation! So even though I was early, I was stuck shuffling between seats. Megabus is terrible, take a train. read more

So I wanted to cancel my reservations, but due to their policies I cannot. I called back and decided on another day to change my reservations to, but the service representative (accidentally) dropped my call. I find their whole non-refundable, amending reservation system cumbersome. I used megabus to save money because they had tickets for cheaper. Now I have ended up overpaying when I could have just saved myself the hassling affair by just buying from their competitors last minute. Honestly, next time I am sticking with Lucky Bus, Yobus or FungWah. read more

THE WORST! THE WORST experience I have ever had! I have been taking Megabus for years now since I frequently travel out of and to New York. Decent price for what it has to offer.. but today was the worst experience I have ever had with any bus company. My bus was at 1PM today and I could not make that time because an emergency came up. I actually called and went to the bus stop at 1PM to let Megabus know that I couldn't make it and would need to take the 5PM bus. The guy said there was no guarantee for seats at 5pm but I could come back with my ticket and they will let me on if there were extra seats for an additional $5 (reasonable). I arrived at the station at 4:45 and waited till 5pm to board. Once everyone boarded, I presented the ticket to the driver and told him my situation and WITHOUT EVEN CHECKING, he told me there were no more seats... That was impossible because I saw at least 5 empty seats on the lower level alone. I tried to explain to him the situation and I am sure he knows the Megabus policy but he refused to let me on. HE DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO LOOK AT MY TICKET OR TALK TO ME! How can you just say the bus is full without checking? He then told me to go talk to the Megabus employee at the booth (which was empty) and the second I turned around he drove off. This is by far the most unprofessional encounter I have ever had in my entire life. What made things worse was that I tried calling customer service to explain to them the situation but all they could tell me was there was nothing they could do and refused to refund me and told me to send them an "email" which would probably never be checked. Luckily there was another bus company willing to take me for $30 leaving around the same time. I called my credit card company to dispute this charge because Megabus is not getting away with this! Worst service I have seen so far. Super rude driver and guys checking tickets. I was travelling with family 7 in total with 3 kids ( 1 infant and 2 four years old) and 1 65 years old and forget about being helpful but these guys were rude. While booking tickets told us that infants are free but at boarding that guy behaved rudely and asked us to move out of line while we are paying walkin price for infant. Then when bus started driver made announcement to use bathrooms sparingly, really that's inhuman. Nobody likes to go to these smelly and dirty bathrooms until absolutely necessary. Finally when we are getting down driver started closing doors, he can see that we have kids so we cannot jump out of bus as soon as bus stops. I wish there was lower rating than 1 star was available. I travel between nyc and boston fairly regularly. I have tried all the options including greyhound, lucky, bolt, peterpan and megabus. And out of all of these, Megabus is by far the worst. Major issue with this line is delays..every .single...god..damn..time! I am not talking about 15-30 min delay..think 1:30-2 hr delays. For example, last time I took 5:40 pm to boston from nyc , bus actually left the stand at 7:20pm!! imagine standing on the side of shitty road with no place to seat for 2 freaking hours!! Trip that supposed to be 4 and half hour affair, ends up being 6-7 hours. I will not be taking Megabus anytime in near future. Enough is enough. read more

When traveling between Boston and NYC, I generally choose MegaBus because they're the most reliable for what you pay. I think that people get really upset when the bus is late, but I also notice this tends to always happen when your trip touches rush hour. A four-hour bus ride into NYC that departs Boston on a Friday at 5pm is NOT gonna happen. You're going to slow down in White Plains and spend hours in traffic. That said, the bus company has been around for long enough to know better. Traffic will happen, especially when approaching New York. It is ALWAYS there. MegaBus should be able to write it into their schedule by now, but I'm pretty sure they're still just posting travel time based on a Google Maps search. So until MegaBus accounts for traffic in their schedules, I would advise proceeding with caution if you're booking a trip that involves rush hour. Leaving mid-day and mid-week has much better results. But if your only choice is leaving right after work, then it wouldn't be uncommon to be on that NYC bus for 6 hours. Get comfortable. Bring snacks. Wear layers in case the bus gets too warm or too cold. And if none of that works for you, then just buck up some extra dollars and take the Acela or a flight where you'll have slightly more flexibility. read more

Just wrapped up a round trip from NYC to Boston during peak travel time between Xmas and New Year's. Here are my thoughts in no particular order. Hopefully this will be helpful to those thinking of taking Megabus in the future. 1. The departure area in NYC on 34th street is completely exposed to the elements with no tall buildings nearby and the Hudson river less than 2 blocks away. What does this mean? You'd better be prepared for the cold and wind during the winter months. I was fortunate enough to realize this and had on all of my ski gear (minus the goggles) during one of the coldest mornings in the northeast. Add in a biting wind and I have no idea how the bus workers manage to work there all day. I saw many tourists and non-natives woefully underdressed for the conditions. Unless you want a good case of pneumonia when you reach Boston, check the weather reports and be prepared! 2. During busy periods, you may get a non-Mega bus charter due to the amount of riders. Not a big deal unless you've got a thing for wanting to ride on the upper level. 3. WiFi was non-existent on both trips and there was no power in the outlets. I was prepared with spare battery chargers but those of you who are addicted to your phones and tables, be warned. 4. On the blue double decker buses there is no overhead storage space on the top level. If you do bring a bag onboard, it should be small enough to fit under the seat or it'll be on your lap for the entire trip. 5. You're at the mercy of NYC and Boston traffic. Be prepared for delays if your departure/arrival times fall within rush hour times. 6. The porters and drivers are strict and curt. Have your bags and tickets ready for show when boarding. Boarding is not the time to get into a discussion if you can change your ticket to a later bus! 7. The front seats on the second level have numbers on them for a reason, they are for reserved ticket holders who paid extra to sit there. It's not an elementary school free for all to rush up and get those seats. You'll just have to move when the ticket holders show up and end up sitting next to the toilet. 8. The seat are narrow. I'm not the fattest guy out there at 150 lbs and 5' 6" but I was seriously cramped in the seat with a winter ski shell. If I was wearing one of those fancy Canada Goose parkas, forget about it. Better buy 2 seats for the trip. 9. Please think about the type of snacks you bring on board if you have to munch during the trip. The smell will get everywhere quickly! 10. The trip is a bargain for the price especially if you get some of the off hour buses. read more

Expect all busses to arrive at least an hour late, but don't show up any later then 30 mins before the bus is supposed to depart or you will be to far back on the line to actually get on the oversold bus. This is a horrible parasitic business. I keep coming back because other tickets are gone or to expensive. I wish all the drivers and on the ground personnel the best dealing with what I'm sure is horrific toxic leadership. The drivers are great and do their best to get you everywhere on time. THE WORST EVER!!! Let me start by saying if you need to be somewhere on time do not consider using Megabum . I was traveling from Boston to New York and had to be at a doctors appointment by 9:30 am.
