$13 ride from South Station to a stop in NYC that's super close to Penn Station. Peter Pan, you can't beat THAT! Plus comfy seats, lots of leg room, electrical outlets, and functional wifi. It was also punctual and got me to NYC only a little late, but not too late to miss my train to Long Island. I'm definitely a fan. read more

After taking 3 trips now, every single ride has been delayed by at least an hour. This bus line is never on time.

Took bus from South Station to NY. The bus was about 20 mins late and we didn't 40 mins from the original departure time. Wifi - didn't work on bus (guess that is pretty much the norm) Only 1 outlet - so basically had to take turns charging phones Driver had AC on the whole time - it was freezing cold read more

I've taken buses from all the major bus companies at this point and can say objectively that Megabus is among my least favorite. I took a bus from Boston to NY the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Given how busy this time of the year is for travel, I was impressed that we departed exactly on time (esp. after reading the reviews below). Pros: -cheap -lots of availability even when you book at the last minute Cons: -Made not 1, but 2 stops = extra half hour on the road. Once for bathroom break and the second for switching drivers. -Wifi never works. Don't even bother. -Stop in New York is at 27th / 7 ave. Super traffic heavy/cramped area. Driving from the Bronx through midtown Manhattan was literally the slowest stretch of the ride. The driver tried to speed up by taking detours onto 11th ave, but it was hopeless. Do yourself a favor and just take the train. read more

Look, riding the bus is never the ideal way to travel, but if you have to bus it, take Megabus! Megabus is light years better than Peter Pan/Greyhound/Bonanza, and here's why: Free wifi, double-decker buses (I love riding on the upper level, and one bus actually had a completely clear, sunroof style ceiling), comfortable seats, plenty of legroom, clean and odor-free interiors, tickets are purchased and printed from the comfort of your home computer, AND the tickets are a bargain (I've never paid more than $13.00, one-way). So, do your wallet a favor, and give Megabus a try. read more

I've taken Megabus a couple of times since my last review and each trip has been right on schedule, clean, and generally as pleasant as a bus ride could be. Oh, and the power outlets have consistently worked. ' read more

My mom and I took the Megabus from Boston to NYC and back again a few days later. Into New York we reserved seats at a table which was very comfy and we got to sleep most of the way. We stopped once for a quick break and they were very punctual about getting us back on the road. Our bus driver was very sweet as well! On the way back to Boston, we weren't able to reserve seats so we had to sit in some uncomfortable bus seats, but honestly, that's to be expected. The bus left right on time, the driver seemed to drive safely and it was a pleasant and smooth ride. I would recommend Mega bus completely and would definitely ride with them again for a cheap bus ride to NYC! read more

Dear Megabus, When you're on, you're on, and when you're off, your misery on four wheels. GOOD: Picks up at Back Bay, which means I skedaddled right over after work without needing to leave early. BAD: There is no terminal for the Megabus - in any city. Instead, they have a street-level stop. Which means you're standing on the curb, no matter the weather. I never thought I'd miss the dingy bus section of South Station, but if the bus is late (like mine was by about 30 minutes), that means you could be standing in the freezing cold (like I did, at 20-something degrees), or the rain (like I did on the way home). --- GOOD: My return bus from NY (departure time: 1:15), was on time from start to finish. BAD: My bus from Boston (departure time: 5:30, ETA in NY 9:30), was 30 minutes late picking us up, and didn't get us to the city until just shy of midnight. Now, I know anyone leaving at that time should expect rush hour traffic - but that's not the whole story. Our bus driver got lost, taking us to the burbs at one point, and had to pull over and ask a cop for directions. wtf?! --- GOOD: Clean bus, comfy seats, nice lighting, wi-fi, outlets, apparently there's an on-board bathroom (I'd much rather hold it, yikes). BAD: Absolutely freezing. I found myself wrapped tighly in a pashmina to and from NY. The outlets worked for most of my trip down, but in the last hour or so they started to sputter. For anyone who has an iPhone, you know that double-buzz it does when you plug it in? Yup, that means every time the power went off and on from the outlet (which was about every 30 seconds), my phone would go *bzz bzz*. It was so annoying I had to unplug. --- So, realistically, the moral of this story is "don't take the bus to NY during rush hour, no matter how cheap or convenient it is." However, my unreasonable side blames everything squarely on Megabus itself, which means next time I'll be trying the Bolt, or going back to my old friend (who never gave me problems), the Greyhound. read more

Megabus in Boston!....Why couldn't you have been here last year!? (In Burlington that is!) So this past summer we got a Megabus stop in Burlington, VT. All I have to say is WOW! I like the service! ON THE WAY DOWN! The bus had gotten there a little bit early. It was leaving for 11:00am on a Thursday morning and said to be in Boston by 2:45pm in the afternoon. So we did board early and the bus left on time! The bus was very clean. The power outlets on the bus did not work. The WiFi worked great though. I saw 2-3 people working on laptops. I did test it with my smart phone. The bathroom on board was your basic setup and worked as indented. Over all the ride was VERY comfortable. Even leg room was good. (Coming from a guy whos 6 foot 3 inches!) The bus driver was great too. He was more than helpful about putting luggage on the bus for the passengers and checking REF# quickly! He drove the speed limit the whole way up too! Getting off the but was easy too! it dropped us off right at South Station in Boston, MA! We made great time! 10 minutes early! So NOOOO complaints at all here. ON THE WAY BACK TO VT! I was leaving around 3:30pm on a Monday afternoon. So I got there about 60 minutes early to make sure I didn't miss my bus. Plus this was my first time ever taking a bus from South Station. We had been told we would be in Burlington, VT by 7:15pm The bus got there ON THE DOT at 3:30! So it was later then on the way up. Not a big deal. We had about 25 people going back. So they got us on the bus very quickly. Here they have 2 people getting passengers on the bus. So it was very easy. The bus it self was also VERY clean like the last one! The power worked on this bus and so did the free WiFi. The bus driver here also helped with luggage. Checked your REF# and you just hopped on the bus! Again VERY easy to deal with! He also went the speed limit the whole way back to Burlington, VT. On the way down we had ran into some traffic from a car crash. (Don't worry not the bus! :P) So we did not get back to VT on time. Rather then getting there at 7:15 we got back at 7:25! So not at all a huge deal. PROs of Megabus you ask? - Free WiFi! - The bus was clean! - The bus drivers and employees at both stations where more than helpful. - Express service to both cities and no stops. - No more paying for gas or parking your car! - No wear and tear on the car! - DID I TELL YOU I ONLY PAID $5.00 for the round trip? CONs of Megabus! - At South Station the signs are not well labeled. So get there early to make sure you make your bus on time. If your not there they will NOT wait for you. So that's on you. - Power doesn't always seem to work. But for the price who cares? SO OVER ALL! I will be booking MORE trips with Megabus. In fact i have another one coming up in about 2 weeks! I will report back with an update for this trip. If the service stays at this level I think Megabus and I can create a BEAUTIFUL relationship! I look forward to my next trip down to Boston. GREAT 4/5! If only traveling could have always been this cheap! Now maybe it can.... read more

Our family of 3 (2 adults and infant) was supposed to take 2.40 pm bus from New York to Boston on 19 December. While we were in line one of the workers put our luggage and stroller into the bus trunk but when we were about to show the e-ticket the bus closed the doors and took off with our luggage leaving us in New York. Megabus staff on 34th and 11 ave informed the driver that he was carrying our luggage, which he was supposed to leave at South Station in Boston. 3h later we took the next NY-BOS bus and got to South Station around 11 pm. Everything was closed and we were advised to come first thing in the morning. Just to mention that our passports, insurance and house keys and baby items were in that luggage. We came to South Station megabus office this morning only to learn that our stuff was sent back to New York! The customer service is not helping at all, corporate makes you stay on the line for 40 minutes, lost and found doesn't answer. We spent the whole morning trying to get the L&F phone #, customer service is rude and hangs up on you. 24 hours later we can't locate our luggage. Customer service asks to give them 5 to 7 days to locate our luggage. Are we supposed to sleep on the street for a week? We can't get in to our house. While researching the topic I came across hundreds of stories about how megabus lost someone's luggage all around U.S. Megabus has terrible customer support and bad lost and found policy. This was the first and last time I used this company. PS. No overhead bins and no wifi. read more

I write from a Megabus, from NYC to Boston. Aside from cramped seats, I was pleasantly surprised. Temperature good, Wifi working perfectly, nice bright individual light over the seat, and driver asked people to be considerate and quiet on cell phones so so far I'm glad all my fellow passengers are on the same page! People are saying Boltbus is better but I froze my butt off going there, couldnt sleep even with two jackets! AND the wireless didnt work! plus there was some jerk chatting loudly on his cell phone in front of me for nearly an hour! That said, it seems everyone else is leaning towards Boltbus. Well, in the least I think this is a great back up bus, and may even be better if you're kinda small and can manage with cramped seating. My experience has been far better on Megabus! read more

Horrible!!! Never EVER again. Not only do the buses not have working charging outlets but no one helps you with your luggage. They just watch each person struggle with trying to pack in everything. Ridiculous. I am currently on the bus now and I completely forgot that the last time I took a mega bus the driver was power tripping and trying to kick a girl off. Instead of being a decent human being, he called the police and we all had to sit and wait for the girl to get off. Which by the way took over an hour. So you are going to make 50 people late because your ego was hurt? Come on! I won't forget this time. read more

Thank you for lying on the phone that it's FREE for in lap infant charging $25 on the 8th month old baby! I don't care about the money but be lied to! Ugh...absolutely not worth a squirt of piss. Bus is incredibly crowded and uncomfortable with no overhead storage for a coat or bag. NYC pickup point is on the exposed side of a street - right next to Boltbus - I waited for 1/2 our in a driving snowstorm. Luckily it wasn't raining. read more

Taken this bus a couple times back and forth from Boston to NYC and never had a problem. I've had good luck with either buying tickets in advance or buying them at the bus (A little more pricey) As others have mentioned - the wifi is not great, very slow and choppy. It has been better on some rides than others. The seats are relatively comfortable... The drivers are usually good. My most recent trip the guy was kind of jerky with the gas/ break but you can't win them all. Electrical outlets at almost every seat. The bathrooms are actually really clean (in my experience). read more

Megabus: Punctuality? What's that? The mark at the end of sentences? You get what you pay for---a cheap and uncomfortable ride...if it shows up. The buses are always late and you can't get refunds. If there's a significant delay, like the 2-hour delay that I experienced, you're pretty much stuck waiting. Their customer service either doesn't pick up or will tell you that the bus is almost there to keep you waiting. You repeat this until the bus shows up or you eat the cost of the ticket and find an alternative. It's cheap but always have a Plan B so that you'll be punctuation to your destination. read more

I'm extremely disappointed about how the seating was handled on the 5pm bus to NY from Boston on 1/9/19. I had reserved seat 4 due to carsickness only to find out that the 4pm bus never showed and therefore despite me being in time for my bus, the 4pm people got my seat. There was no apology. This was unacceptable considering I had reserved the seat months ago and had to endure car sickness. There really should have been a compensation as this was megabus' fault 100%. Completely disappointed with the service and lack of compensation. read more

I was not able to cancel my ticket despite having a medical reason for doing so. Take another bus line, this corporation is greedy and unsympathetic to medical accommodations. read more

Megabus sucks plain and simple. I can't understand how or why it took 5 hours to get to NYC from Boston and vice versa. The driver stopped both ways, it's supposed to be express. We left late and the driver could have easily made that time back but this asshole was going like 45-50 mph. No customer service. And we came back on some random bus that didn't even say megabus on it. Avoid Megabus at all costs. read more

Late, slow, and poor communication and organization. I took Megabus from Boston to NY and then back again and both times the bus was more than a half hour late arriving for passengers to board. The to NY trip gained back some time but the to Boston trip was ridiculously slow. I think it took 2 hours longer than scheduled. I doubt we even did the speed limit. The wifi didn't work either trip. It's chaos in line--people cutting, no one knowing what is going on. We got announcements that the busses were running late but only after the scheduled departure time had already passed. The seats are smaller and more cramped than other busses it seems and I'm a small person. We missed our initial bus and had to buy new tickets. Only after we had paid we were told that we could've just paid a change ticket fee at the counter at South Station and not pay the full price a second time. But there was no one at the counter at South Station to tell is this and on the phone the CSR was useless. read more

I have now used MegaBus for two round trips from Boston South Station the most recent of which was a nightmare and is why I will never use MegaBus again. First, as another reviewer mentioned when leaving Boston the bus is always at least 20 minutes late. Of the four busses I rode on Wifi never worked at all on any of them and only once did the power outlets work. The place where you catch the bus in New York is outdoors and exposed to the elements. So if it is hot sun you are getting burnt waiting for the bus and if it is pouring rain you are getting rained on. I could put up with these shortcomings but the last trip from NYC to Boston on 9/8/14 was so bad I will never ride MegaBus again. I arrived on time and the bus was delayed due to a mechanical reason. Finally they bring around another bus and we leave 50 minutes late. Before even leaving NYC a passenger realizes she got on the wrong bus and had in fact meant to go on a later bus to Providence. The driver pulls our bus over in NYC to let her off and gets out himself with her to wait for the Providence bus to pick her up. So our already delayed by 50 minute bus is now delayed an additional 30 minutes. How is it even possible a passenger with a ticket for another bus is allowed to board the wrong bus? Why does a bus with 50 or so people on it have to wait due to an error on part of the bus company and a passenger? The power outlets and wifi of course do not work and the driver simply states that on most of their busses these do not work. The toilet smells like bad seafood. I mean this is a very bad smell you cannot even imagine. Do yourself a favor and use another bus service or take the train. Bolt bus is a good option if just a few dollars more. MegaBus is simply a lie! read more

Megabus - The floor puddles - Transportation Near Me

TERRIBLE experience with Megabus. Purchased a ticket from New York to Boston (10/21/2018 at 11:30AM). Reached the pickup spot on time only to find out that the bus was cancelled. WTF Megabus??? Learn to adhere to your commitments for your paying customers. This is one of the fundamentals of any business. There were more angry and frustrated customers at the pickup site. Megabus customer service employee asked us to get a refund or reschedule with absolutely no regards to the customer experience. To add to the Megabus misery, there weren't any buses to reschedule on that day. So, I had to miss a full day of work to reach Boston on Monday night. I would rather pay a little more to other transportation services to ensure my travel plans. read more

Megabus? Actually a Dattco bus to NYC, megabus return. Neither bus had shock absorbers. I think megabus is setting a new standard for how many seats they can fit into a bus. Just about everyone's knees were touching seatback in front. Seats are paper thin. Also covered in smooth vinyl so every time the driver touched the brakes you would slide forward. USB outlets DOA, AC outlet didn't work. WiFi was about as slow as the 6 hour ride. A porta potty strapped to the back of the bus would have been a big improvement over the open sewer they called a bathroom. Bus was basically filthy to boot. Not doing megabust again read more

Customer service is disgustingly garbage they don't understand proper english and got no courtesy at all terrible experience

I'm not one to take the bus unless i have to. I prefer the train. yes its more expensive but it does get rid of a lot of the flaws that many other reviewers are complaining about. However when i m low on money (college) i do take the bus from Boston to NYC. I've taken both megabus and bolt, not fung wah because its just dangerous but Megabus is by far the best of the three. Its a clean bus minus the bathroom because its a bathroom. The line to get on the bus moves pretty fast. The standby seating is also very efficent. Its true to its word in length of time only maybe twice did the bus arrive to the city 15 mins late but it was after work traffic. My only advice is try to take your bus as early as possible because boston traffic slides into new york traffic pretty easy and can cause you at least an hour delay. read more

Boston to Nyc. Left 65 min Late as usual. Blamed on traffic even though all other south station companies were ontime. Poor service, again as usual. No apologies from the company I do not recommend "We are confortable you will find our service reliable" says the video. Really?? Wifi NEVER works. Never! Driver swap 15 miles from destination = 20 min extra Just a horrible experience read more

Absolutely NOTHING would make me use mega bus! They are rude as ever. Not to mention they tried to make me buy a round trip ticket for my 11 month old! I'm sorry but not even air planes charge for child fair until a certain age. No other transportation agency does for that matter. Then I left feedback on their Facebook page and they responded by trying to keep me all hush hush about it and personal message them. Then when they responded they still sounded uneducated and ignorant so needless to say that we will bring the family's round trip ticket money to grey hound and save money! read more

Just finished up the NYC to boston and it was absolutely awful. There was no traffic, but we still got in over an hour late because the driver was driving 10-20 mph under speed limit the entire time. I was tracking it with multiple gps apps and he was driving between 40-49 the entire way. As a driver I find this completely unacceptable and puts a huge delay on all of the passengers. read more

Can't say this is as good as it gets cuz this was the only bus I ever took since it was my first time on the East Coast but I guess I was just lucky. My friends and I took this bus because it was one of the cheapest and to our surprise it was clean. I didn't go to the bathroom cuz I just don't like the idea of being in a bathroom while moving so I can't really vouch for it cleanliness or dirtiness from what the reviews seem to say. I didn't really expect much and I'm a short girl so the leg room for me was just alright and I didn't expect to be entertained so if you think this bus is gonna provide movies and whatever other buses do, you're wrong. The drivers both ways back were kind and on time. Felt bad for the people who had to go to the bathroom because the ride was rather bumpy and I'm sure we hit a huge bump while someone was in there, haha. From Boston to NY the ride was rather empty and I liked that better but going back to Boston the bus was packed but I can't complain about that, it isn't the buses fault so I have no idea what people are complaining about. read more

I was once a huge promoter of Megabus but my last trip in March made me switch to Peter Pan, Greyhound and Bolt and back to Amtrak. Incredibly poor service. We was late leaving boston, and get this the driver needed a rest stop. Guess where the rest stop was, off I87 IN THE BRONX. (25mins from Midtown). My question is why do we have to be let off on 28th St and 7th Ave? When we leave its on 34th and 11th. At least drop us off in the same area. Internet didn't work, seriously I am not using Megabus again. read more

The last time I went down to manhattan was via Acela. Nothing beats that for traveling there on public transportation. However, taking the bus is a good alternative when traveling on a budget. I never liked traveling with fung wa. I'll never forget fighting with mad chinese ppl to get into the bus tho I had a ticket. I suppose they are infamous for overselling seats in manhattan back in the days of monopoly budget bussing. It's certainly a delight to see the growth of budget boston-nyc transportation over the years. Now I get to enjoy free wifi, power plug, peaceful ride... What caught my eye are seatbelts! Just the other day, I was on a bus to foxwoods and was thinking to myself that buses should have seatbelts. Now, they are smack right in my face. I'm still that idiot tho since I'm not using it knowing that i'd pretty much be dead if the bus rolls over right now. read more

currently traveling on my $1 ($1.50 actually) fare, sitting on the upper deck (great view, but find myself kind of ducking when we go under overpasses), while the seat next to me open; using zippy free wifi and power outlet for me laptop; and MB's departure from the rear of Back Bay T station saves at least 10 minutes over negotiating the hugely inconvenient South Station bus terminal (can those gates to the buses be placed any farther from the street entrance???) How can I possibly not give 5 big red stars??? read more

To be honest, it's a mixed bag with Megabus. At times the Wi-Fi is working and we breeze into NYC and back. But then there are the days when the bus is late and you've been waiting in the cold and there's no heat on the first deck. Or you call and it takes forever to get customer service. Still when Delta canceled my flight into NYC a few weeks ago, I was glad to have Megabus take me into the City in time to get on my flight to Argentina at JFK. So buy your ticket in advance, get there on-time, and hope for the best (i.e. heat, Wi-Fi, music, and movies). read more

5 stars for the $.50 and $1.50 fares I paid each way to New York. MINUS 5 (sad face) for the cold ass bus. maybe it was a-cuz I sat near the stairs/doorway on the 2nd level. either way, cold ass bus, cuz. +1 for Tom and Jerry Cartoons playing on the way down with no volume (other reviewers noted loud movies playing...no need for "The Notebook" on at 7:30 am, let alone any other time of day ever, so we lucked out in this department). + another 2 stahz for being huge and thus not crowded. read more

5 STARS for price, comfort & convenience!!! I really liked the Megabus. It departed from NY on time, and arrived in Boston in exactly 4 hours even during a snowstorm. The bus was big and clean, the seats, suprisingly comfortable and roomy, so no complaints here. I took the Boltbus going down to NY and it was nice and all, but in my opinion, Megabus is better. I paid $19 for a ticket, so the extra $4 was definitely worth it compared to riding on the Fung Wah or Lucky Star. I will never take those buses again! read more

[note: Megabus is so horrible, I'm reposting this for the Boston listing] More like MEGABUST (hi-yoooo). Awful, absolutely awful. I've taken it from Boston - NY, and from NY - Boston, and regardless of the destination, it's always late. ALWAYS. ALWAYS. In my 10-15 trips on the Megabus, not once has it left on-time. Which invariably leads to it arriving late. And the Labor Day 2010 weekend trip was the worst travel-related experience through which I've ever suffered, as our bus was 2.5 hours late to depart, and took over 5 hours on the road. Disorganized, heavy, plodding, consistently late. RIDE IT IF YOU DARE. But please don't dare. read more

Booked a 9p bus from Boston to NYC. Never again. Bus arrives late getting into Boston, and the driver proceeds to tell us she needs to take a break, which is fine. She disappears into the night and we don't see her again for another 30 minutes, and then when she gets back to the bus, she disappears inside for another 15 minutes. All in all, our 9p bus doesn't depart until 10p. WiFi was also incredibly spotty, and some of the power outlets under the seats didn't work. Spend a little extra $ and take the train instead. read more

MMEEGGAAA BBUUSS.... the title of a bad NBC drama; twin to 'Super Train.' Join the weekly shenanigans of the wacky Mega Bus crew as they serve washed up C rate actors, desperate for another minute in the lime light and a few bucks in their pocket. Why do I like it? * Can't beat the price * Seats are fairly comfortable * Not as prone to roll overs as one of their competitors * You ride high down the highway * Central NYC drop off, adjacent to Madison Square Garden What concerns me? *I was told their height and/or weight prevents them from entering the city via the highway. Thus, the need for a scenic tour of Manhattan through Harlem, Morningside Heights, and the Upper West Side. * Bad weather slows the trip down. Driving snow led to traffic and accidents as well as a detour through central Connecticut in a driving snowstorm.....arrived in Boston two hours late (but in one piece). I was surprised to read the experience of a few Yelpers dealing with a movie; our bus was quiet (travelled back to Boston on New Year's Eve). All in all, a great alternative to driving or the train. Super Train, that is. read more
