I use Megabus all the time (and by all the time, I really mean about 5x per year) to go to NYC. Prices vary wildly -- I've been lucky enough to snag tickets for $8 each way, and unlucky enough to fork over $29 each way. To me, the quality is worth the extra $$ over a FungWah or a LuckyStar. Megabus is a double-decker (at least, all the ones I've been on are) that has (shitty) Wi-Fi, but working AC power outlets and bathrooms. I've never had a problem with the cleanliness of the bus, and typically the ride is pretty uneventful (which is always a good thing). Megabus misses one star for inconsistency, especially of late. My bus to NYC last Wednesday was scheduled to leave at 6am, and we didn't even start boarding until 6:30am, which took an hour out of my already short single-day trip. The bus home was a full HOUR late (and when departing from NYC, there is no terminal, so you are literally sitting on the sidewalk like a hobo, just waiting), and the driver made an unexpected pit-stop at Burger King, so needless to say, we arrived almost two hours late to Boston. But typically, you know what you're getting with Megabus. It's only worth it if the fares are USUALLY low. If they start to go up regularly (i.e. $29 every time I try to book...), then I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

After many many years of hopping onto buses to NYC and back, I can honestly say that the delays you experience with MegaBus are the same with any of the other bus companies you decide to take. I know someone who had a four-hour bus delay using BoltBus! Yikkes. One awesome thing about the MegaBus is that they have double-decker buses (part of the Kate effect, I guess?), which makes it seem less cramped than the one-level buses you'd usually take. I actually really look forward to traveling on these buses. The drivers are polite and the operators are well-mannered. Warning: the same does not go for BoltBus! Plus you just can't beat MegaBus' price. I highly recommend taking the later buses for reduced traffic and even lower prices. read more

2 HOURS LATE DEPARTURE - NO APOLOGIES - NO COMPENSATION- OVERSOLD TICKETS- I traveled from NYC to Boston and from Albany to NYC this weekend. Both buses were late. The original departure time was 8:40 but we got on the bus around 11 pm. There was no warning in advance, no emails. Despite the lateness, we made two unnecessary stops in Albany. Our original departure time was 11:40 but we were in New York at 2.00 AM in the morning. During this wait time, a few people called customer service to learn the exact time of the departure, but no customer service agent was able to give information. The Wi-fi at bus NEVER worked for me, tried both on my iPhone and mac. During the first trip from NYC to Boston, first bus arrived on time, but half of us were not able to get in because they OVERSOLD tickets. We had to wait for another 45 minutes in 88 F New York weather on Friday afternoon. Megabus customer service folks said any 45 minutes DELAY is ACCEPTABLE. Bottom line is DO NOT PREFER MEGABUS unless you are out of options. The company just ruined my weekend, I missed my next trips and had to overspend for my additional travel arrangements. Customer service is refusing to provide compensation for any of the delays. Forget that, they are extremely unprofessional and careless. At least sound like you care!! read more

My first time trying Megabus instead of driving from Boston to NYC. Bus broke down after 10 minutes. We have been sitting for going on 2 hours now. No end in sight. Was going to a show at 8 pm tonight. Woukd be surprised if we make it at all. Next time driving. read more

Megabus - Don't take Megabus - Transportation Near Me

I'm surprised how terrible the Megabus experience was. The company has been in service for a few months now, and I assumed the kinks had been worked out. Things looked bad from the beginning. 15 minutes after the scheduled departure time the Megabus employee at the gate informed us that the bus was late and that he had no idea when the bus would arrive. (duh! I could have told him that!) so the Megabus central dispatcher is a failure or the bus was MIA. After 45 minutes more the bus arrived and we left. Things did not really improve as the bus driver however was incompetent. He seemed uncomfortable driving in NYC and drove from Yankee stadium to Penn station on traffic light heavy streets. Not efficient, but that may have been the route Megabus prefers. However, I doubt he was on route as the driver made several wrong turns and got lost near Penn station. Two helpful New Yorkers on the bus got him un-lost and delivered to to Penn. We finally arrived 2 hours late. The internet did not work, and the driver's music was loud and the AC was arctic. The bus was new and cleaner than the chinatown bus......but Megabus is more expensive and failed to meet performance minimums. read more

Great prices but they don't enforce cell phone policy. Other passengers make and receive calls throughout the multi hour ride from Boston to NYC, Not all of us have noise cancelling headphones. read more

I'm writing two reviews: one for my trip from Boston to New York, and one for the trip back. This is the former. Pluses: The waiting area is indoors with ample food and facilities nearby (NOT the case on the NYC end). The bus left on time. The bus was clean. Great views from the upper deck (I got there early so I got to sit in the front row). Wifi worked for basic web browsing. The A/C was working but not out-of-control freezing. Generally a very pleasant trip. Minuses: The electrical outlet near my seat did not work, and there was only one for both seats on a side. Wifi connection did not let me use Cisco VPN client (a very common VPN program), so I couldn't get the work done that I planned to do on the 4-hour trip. Also, I don't know why this is, and the Greyhound/Peter Pan buses do this too: instead of taking a highway route into Midtown, they drive city blocks all the way down from around 120th St. to 28th where the bus lets you off. It seems like there must be a more efficient way to get in. My review of the trip back from New York to Boston: http://www.yelp.com/biz/megabus-new-york#hrid:6X7o1nxEZApvVlEin_THfA read more

Bus was on time and was quick to get from NYC back to Boston. The bus did not stop which we really were hoping for, the bathroom stunk. Let me be more clear, a porta potty would be a treat compared to the bathroom on a megabus. We took Bolt bus on the way to NYC and had wifi and power and we stopped, something that we expected with megabus. Three out of the three outlets that we tried for power did not work, one of the plugs had a piece of metal sticking out of it. The WI-FI was literally called "Out_Of_Service". Our phones were dead and we couldn't recharge, we couldn't use our tablets because no WI-FI. I wrote two e-mails to megabus telling them everything and each e-mail I received back seemed like someone copy and pasted a response that has been used hundreds of times before. Both e-mails I received were pretty much identical. They told me that last minute changes mean some buses won't have power and that during peak times wifi won't work. We left the city around 8:30pm which I guess is peak wifi time? So we sat there for 4 hours with nothing to do. We somewhat planned getting a bus with power and wifi so we could do a little work on the way home. I wrote to them hoping for them to write a human response, something like this: We're sorry you had difficulties, thank you for alerting us to the safety issue in regards to the outlet. We would really hate to lose both of you customers, please have your next ride on us. __________ That sounds pretty crazy right, i'm sure that would ruin this company, good service. Our tickets were cheap though, so thats a good thing. read more

I took Megabus 10/4, to NYC from Boston and back. I was a little wary of buying tickets after reading reviews on here, but I had a great experience! Our bus was scheduled to leave at 7 am, and left exactly at 7. Had no issues getting on or finding a seat- there was about 10 people on the bus. The way home left on time as well, and both rides took a little over 4 hours. I have no complaints with Megabus, and was really impressed. The tickets are cheap, and worth it. My only recommendation is make sure you map out where you know where you're going from the drop off/pick up locations. The spot we got dropped off in was fine, though a little different than I thought. The pick up spot is kind of random- If you have directions or a GPS you'll be fine. I was really happy with my Megabus experience, and would do it again! read more

I've ridden with you 4 times. Each time, BoltBus has been sold out. This last time, so was World Wide Bus. Questions for you: Have you ever been on time? Have you ever had an outlet or wifi? Have you ever not already canceled one bus that day, usually mine? This last time, we were pulled over on the highway in Connecticut for 20 minutes. Upon approaching our destination, after driving through the entirety of Manhattan (from upper Harlem to midtown - about an hour - instead of paying the $5 for the Lincoln Tunnel), our bus driver finally told us that the reason we were stopped in Connecticut was because he was randomly selected for inspection - and the inspector wrote him a citation for unsafe driving. I guess it's good that he told us this after we had reached our destination, as the 2 buses full (on one bus - the 7am was canceled so they squished both buses on one doubledecker) of people were already pretty angry. Siiiigh. Thank you for existing when the other buses are sold out. I will continue to ride you when I make last minute plans. read more

PROS 1. $3.50 to get from boston to nyc 2. leaves from back bay station (closer to home) 3. nice, clean and comfortable inside CONS 1. driver stopped 3x at a red light to check on the bus within the first 30 min. 2. driver was rude, esp. when ppl ask nicely to be let off because they were late for an appt, work etc. 3. their route consists of going through 120+ streets of nyc traffic - who does that?! 4. took 5.5 hours to get to the nyc bus stop i think i will stick to my $15 fungwah bus that speeds a bit, makes a quick pit stop and gets me to nyc in a reasonable amount of time. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE FOLLOWED BY HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Booked a ticket from to boston from NYC. the bus broke down on route to NYC & said possible delay between 2-2.5 hours. I waited at bus stop for 4 hours without any following email & when checking application on iphone it stated "cant locate bus at this time" Bus showed up 4.5 hours late and absolutely packed with no seats. When calling about the late bus to get money refunded or complimentary ticket, the customer service woman asked confirmation number and told me to hold. when returning on the phone she said theres nothing we could do and proceeded to hang up on me!!! i am absolutely disgusted and have never been treated like that as a customer. Honestly, we had absolutely no problems and it was crazy cheap. Busses were on time, got us where we were going and arrived at the estimated time, WiFi worked just fine, outlets worked great, seats were comfortable. From Boston to NYC, $13 pp each way. From NYC to Boston, $3 pp each way. Can't beat that. No complaints, and I'd definitely use Megabus again. read more

I had a fabulous experience on Megabus! Granted, we took a 9pm bus, so it was practically empty, but we arrived in Boston at 12:30am!! 3.5 hours from NY to Boston. Amazing and totally not scary!! The bus left punctually from Penn Station (so convenient) and my boyfriend and I each got to take up two seats to try to sleep on the ride. The wireless let me check the Red Sox/Angels scores and the price was practically equal to the Fung Wah, even though I booked our tickets the day before. All in all, it was a huge improvement over any Boston/NY bus experience I have had for an equal price. I'm happy to say, I'll never use a Chinatown bus again. read more

Had my first megabus experience this weekend. Going to NYC was fine, the bus was spacious enough that most people had the row of seats to themselves (not me, I always get someone sitting next to me even if it's completely empty). It really felt like riding a Greyhound, with younger, cleaner, saner clientele. The bus was relatively quiet and clean. I kinda wished the driver would have made some sort of announcement (like how far we were, or even a welcome message). We got to NYC about 1/2 hour after we were supposed to. It was raining, and what irked me is that when we got there, there was no help with luggage. People were lined up for the next bus and they just didn't move. I sometimes just don't get people at all. On the way back, the bus was pretty much sold out so no spaciousness. The crowd was a lot weirder and I seriously think that obese people should buy 2 tickets cause the seats are tiny and it is not fun to sit next to someone who is spilling onto your seat (and not apologetic about it). The ride back took us 1/2 hour longer as well, due to traffic in NYC. I would ride it to NYC again and try bolt on the way back next time. read more

Trip from New York to Boston, late evening. Exactly as advertised. I knew about the weird pickup location in New York, and after having suffered the indignity of a 10 AM Peter Pan/Greyhound that left Boston at 11---no apology, no acknowledgement, nothing---it was refreshing to see Megabus pull up, get loaded---mega passengers--and depart with no fuss----right on time. For those reviewers who quibble about the route into and out of New York, go bother the New York mayor----busses aren't allowed on the local "drives"----geez, can you imagine a bus on Storrow????? Yeah, the air conditioner was on throughout the trip. Big deal, cover up with a coat. Clean, comfortable, and with a lot of polite, quiet, respectful young people who just want to get where they are going. I'll take my chances with these folks for half the price of an arrogant Greyhound. read more

You get what you pay for. I've taken the Megabus for about 3-4 trips now. The first trip, the electricity didn't work. Second trip, the electricity and wifi didn't work. The last trip I went on...the heat didn't work -at all- on the top section, and the wifi didn't work. IT WAS SO COLD. D: It's pretty unacceptable to not have functioning heat, especially when it's 15-20° outside. I tried to talk to the driver, but he had headphones in (isn't that illegal?!) . Arghh. Yeah, so do rely on getting work done on the bus, unless you have 3G or something. Bring a blanket. Try to sleep. The avantage of the Boston location is that the bus is actually in a station. It drops you off in a pretty convenient location in NYC, however. Washington DC is a parking lot. So you don't have to freeze your ass off waiting for the bus...but you might freeze inside the bus. :S read more

Currently on my way to NYC from Boston.......riding on a Bolt bus...! Crazy huh........I attempted to buy a ticket for MegaBus at southstation 15 minutes before departure and customer service lady said that her computer wasn't working and to try calling customer service phone number.............Obviously megabus lady is not incentivized or trained to pull out her cell phone and make magic for me. I like Megabus when they first started. They have become very greedy now you have to pay for certain seats. Thank God I now travel on Bolt, FlixBus etc. I was going to travel today then realized of 3 separate fees...a turn-off. I'm traveling with another company and I have for several years told others how I don't like Mega any longer. The fees are annoying and you all should know better than to nickel and dime customers. My girlfriend also hates Mega she lost her entire fee because she was late. So you take the entire fee for someone who not able to make the trip. She's done with your crap as well. Boston- NYC I left home 30mins later than I had planned so I ran all the way upstairs to the gate when I got to the south station about 10mins before the depart time. I was thinking I had missed the bus as no line there. The staff was so nice and patient, he calmed me down telling me that "we are not leaving without you"and led me to the right one, as there were two megabuses there for two different destinations. It took a little longer than 4.5hrs to get to the NYC. I didn't mind as I had a sorta flexible schedule, but beware if yours are tight. I took the 7AM bus and most of the passengers were sleeping all the way except a woman literally talked all the time on the phone and to someone seldom responded to her. Really? That was so inconsiderable and selfish, missy! Wifi worked, kinda slow as some people were watching online stuff(movie/clips). read more

I am taking Megabus from Boston to New York at Aug 16th. It supposed to be arrive at 8:30pm, every time if there is a route choice, the driver always chose a slow route. It will have at least 30 mins delay, I don't know why the driver always chose this way, it's late night, no traffics, this bus was turning around and taking me away from the destination again and again. This doesn't make sense to take us to New Jersey if there is no traffic and slower. I don't understand and feel very frustrated. I think the megabus should reconsider the choice. Seems people don't care about being on time. read more

maybe it was just bad luck on my part, but everything about this trip sucked ass. 1) they packed the entire bus so for four hours i had some girl breathing her coffee breath into my face while she slept and swung her head, hitting me a few times. 2) the entire bus smelled like bathroom and urine and some sort of weird chemical. 3) we left at noon and were scheduled to arrive in NYC by 4:45pm but alas, we circled around penn station two times, which took a good thirty minutes in new york traffic, before we got off cuz the curb at penn station (seriously, they need a terminal). people were pissed and yelling by this time. 4) i wanted to vomit from the constant braking and the aforementioned bad breath from the girl next to me. 5) driver was nice and friendly but... i was still peeved. megasux read more

I took this bus service from Boston to New York. What makes this bus service so unique compared to the other bus services that I used is that they use double decker buses rather than the traditional coach buses. I have not rode on a double decker bus since my trips to England and Hong Kong, so it brought back some memories. It might also be a disadvantage though, if you have a lot of luggage to carry on the bus. Since there is not too much legroom you have some space to put a small bag under the seat. Seating is not too wide as well. There is no overhead compartment, so if you want to carry your bag on the bus, you can only put it under the seat. Other good advantages are the free wi-fi and that it goes nonstop from Boston to New York. The wi-fi was pretty decent during the first part of the trip, but then after 45 minutes, the wifi was gone and I could not connect to the internet for the rest of the trip. It kind of sucked, but I decided to take a nap until I was rested. The ride was okay, fast, and not too bumpy. Customer service was just okay. They just quickly checked my reservation number from my receipt, and led me to the bus. Overall, this is not a bad choice if you want to ride for four hours on a double decker bus to get from Boston to New York. It is not my first choice to go to New York by bus, but it did the job for me passably well. read more

Megabus wasn't a bad experience, it was just okay. I took a roundtrip bus from Boston to NY and back. i recommend not riding the second level of the bus, it can get pretty bumpy. The reason I rode Megabus was because it was cheaper than Bolt. However, during peak times Megabus gets to be pretty pricey too. read more

We were stuck at a rest stop for more than two hours before a nice couple offered to share an uber ride with me the rest of the way. The driver made up information about when the "new" driver was supposed to take his place at the rest stop (first 30 minutes, then another 20 minutes, than another 30 minutes), then finally couldn't take it and left. Megabus hasn't replied to my messages or tweets, they are saying "screw it" and ignoring me. DO NOT USE MEGABUS, PAY FOR A BETTER QUALITY RIDE. read more

DO NOT RELY ON MEGABUS FOR ANY OF THEIR ADVERTISED SERVICES. This includes power outlets, WiFi, reclining seats, and timely departure/arrival. You might get lucky, but the odds are against you. Took MegaBus Boston to NY Friday at 3pm, got there at 8:30. Took it back to Boston on Sunday, left 8:10pm got to South Station at 12:20. They get two stars for leaving on time both times (did not meet their arrival times though). No rest stops along the way, which I think was a good thing. Paid around $40 each time because I booked online same day, and they charge more as you get closer. This is roughly double what competing low budget bus lines charge (Lucky Star, Peter Pan, etc). But the minus 3 stars is for false advertising! I chose this bus in the hope that outlets plus WiFi meant a chance to do some work. WiFi is non existent - there's a network but good luck loading anything more than Googles homepage. My outlet worked on the ride over there. NO OUTLETS WERE EVER TURNED ON THE TRIP BACK. I paid $5 extra to reserve a table seat so I could work and be more comfortable. Not worth it. My chair didn't recline, one of four on the bus that didn't. Leg room was even more limited than regular seats since you're sharing the space under the table with three other people. Table is a joke, basically four cupholders and a sliver of space for maybe one laptop between all four seats. Bottom line: Megabus differentiates itself from its competitors by advertising power outlets, 'broadband' wifi, and reclining seats. I got NONE of those. read more

So I had taken this bus to Burlington, VT a few months ago from Boston and found it to be clean and comfortable with no glitches at all. I sat on the upper level. Maybe the no glitch part was because it was it was midday on a weekday?? Because my experience this weekend was a 180. So four of us on my strong and enthusiastic recommendation went from Boston to NYC. We had reserved seats thank God because our first experience was watching three young ladies being badgered into one of them getting off the bus by the boarding agent who insisted one of them get off because the bus was full. Young lady tried to state her case that a man got on after them. I don't know what the truth was but the three all got off. It was just not a pleasant way to start. Oh also the driver yelled at a passenger who left her bag to be loaded. It's really not clear if you are supposed to do it yourself. It felt comfy... For about 5 minutes. Our driver had a not so smooth start and stop foot and frequently passed large semi's on the right leaving my nephew and I looking at each other in terror! At 12 and with no license even he knows this is a no no! We felt like the bus would literally fall apart on every bump. Forget trying to doze off. By the time we made the return home we felt like we had gone 12 rounds with GGG, Pacquiao, Mayweather AND Canelo!! My poor niece was in the vulnerable position of doing her business on one of the more severe of these bumps and hit her head on the wall! The ride back... Many have mentioned the stop's remote location with no benches. That is what it is. The driver was very irritable. The AC was blasting right on my face. He yelled at someone who tried to come down the front stairs to ask him to shut it off. Apparently you have to use the back stairs. He did change it over but then someone else asked him to change it back and soon we were freezing again! Traffic is what it is. They can't control it, so build it in to your travel time. It is very inexpensive and we liked being able to reserve the four top with little table. But not worth the discomfort. Maybe the upper level felt smoother but somehow I doubt it. The massage and chiropractor I'm going to need will negate any savings... read more

UNSAFE DRIVING !!! If you want bus drivers with road-rage driving styles, avoid this company at all costs! On Memorial Day evening we were in our car on the Mass Turnpike returning from NYC to Boston. To our astonishment, we were passed by a double-decker Megabus driving at least 80 mph. Not only did the driver continue at that unsafe speed, in rather heavy traffic, but he/she kept changing lanes - often two at a time, relentlessly swinging back and forth across the three-lane highway. Then, to make matters worse, the bus tailgated every single car in front of it, riding no more than two feet from their rear bumpers. Still determined to maintain 80+ mph! Do ya think those drivers were terrified? We imagined all the bus passengers pinned to their seats by the G-forces. Our jaws were hanging open and my friend kept saying, "Oh my God, look at that bus - the driver must be insane - it's going to tip and they're all going to be killed." We were horrified and SO glad we, or members of our family were not on that bus! We sped up a bit to keep an eye on the bus (in order to make an accurate report to the Megabus company). For the twenty minutes it was within range, this outrageous behavior did not change. The bus was traveling at such high speeds that we couldn't even get the license plate number, but the next day I filed a formal complaint with the Megabus company. Then today I read the news story about the recent crash in Virginia that killed 4 women and injured many others. Hey, folks, from what we could tell it's not worth the $1 fare. Life is too precious. Make sure to check safety records (and Yelp reviews) before you book one of these economy bus services. Side note, as we commented on the excellent time we made from NYC to Boston (3 hours, 45 minutes), my passenger made a wisecrack that the Megabus probably did it in 2.5.... read more

Took Mega Bus 6/23/13 from NYC to Boston. (1) Way too many people ( due to they have 2 floors I guess) waiting at the pickup location... (2) Very HOT inside. ( they didn't turn on the AC until the car started running. so when they checked in passengers, the inside was very smelly and hot. I had to leave the bus to go outside for fresh air. (3) Very slow. The driver was driving on a average of 55 m/hour. (4) Feel slightly dizzy on second floor. (5) I had better experience in Lucky star , Bolt and FungHwa bus. I would take Bolt bus if i can. If I could give zero stars or minus stars they would get -5 stars. Like most of the reviews I am writing this review as we are waiting for a driver replacement on the side of the road... That's what they told us 30min ago!!! I should stop hoping it'll get better and choose another company. What bother me the most is that they don't care at all! No excuses and barely an explanation... Last time with them! Update on this review. The driver never showed up and after 1.30h waiting on the side of the road with no update about the situation. Most of the passengers ended up calling an Uber. That's what I did I shared an Uber with 3 other passengers to go to Manhattan. I don't know what time the bus arrived (if it ever arrived..) read more

Megabus is poorly run in almost every possible way. To start with the boarding process is very chaotic with generally long lines and no real reserved seating. Its oftentimes not even clear what bus you are waiting for. If the bus is late the staff won't tell you- just have to stand there and hope the bus will show (my bus was 1 hour 45 min late one way and 1 hour 20 min late the other way with no acknowledgment by the gate staff). In addition, the NY city parking lot they use as their bus terminal has trash everywhere and you are exposed to the cold or hot sun while waiting for hour(s). On the road, the double decker buses look cool but fully loaded they can only go 55 mph so your ride will take much longer than advertised. I guess this is a small oversight in order to pack more people on board. Instead of the 4.5 hours on all other buses it will take longer. If it wasn't for the non-existent customer service, always delayed and overcrowded buses and limited speed double decker buses, I would recommend this horribly run bus company. Never again will I take the megabus. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. This is the second time I have ridden them where they have left me standing for hours on end waiting for a bus that was never going to show up. The wranglers in NYC (for the NYC to Boston bus) had no idea when the bus was coming but kept telling us that it was on its way and would be there in "10 or 15 minutes." There was never any clear communication about why the bus was AWOL. I left after standing for an hour and a half to wait for my bus (I was supposed to leave at 6:10, the 5:10 before us still hadn't arrived). Next time I'm taking the Fung Wah or Amtrak. Both have a much better track record of being on time and being good at communication. read more

I've only used Megabus once, and I would probably do it again-- if I had to. Like any relatively cheap transportation from Boston to New York, I expected basic security, some breathing space, and a bathroom break. All were supplied. It smelled a little and was relatively loud; however, if I wanted pristine, quiet, first-class service, I would have dropped double the amount I spent on an Amtrak ticket. I'm somewhat convinced that the driver took a bump of speed or cocaine during a rest stop, as he came back on board with an unusually drippy nose (which wasn't there before) and began to act in a hyped-up, overly anxious, excited manner that only someone who just did a line could conjure up so quickly. He also let some guy off in the middle of the Bronx, which I'm pretty sure is against company policy. Coke or not, we got to our destination in one piece and within one hour of the ETA, which is pretty much a miracle for this particular commute! read more

I've had nothing but positive experiences riding Megabus. I was a little disappointed when they moved their operation to Back Bay, since that place is a complete cesspool with virtually no food options -- but I was delighted to hear that they relocated back to the South Station Bus Terminal. D'Angelo's FTW! MegaBus consistently offers low fares. I've ridden them for $1 between New York and Boston, which is completely insane. The closer you get to a trip, the higher the price. I haven't seen a ticket price above $17, though, so it remains a good deal. The clean, extremely modern buses are double decker -- some have a HDTV and DVD player on the lower level. For a special treat, sit upstairs and enjoy the glass ceiling. It's especially cool to go stargazing while screaming through Connecticut at night. The best part about MegaBus? No stops at Roy Rogers that take 20 minutes off your trip. While I prefer taking the train, MegaBus offers a much more reasonably priced alternative. I only wish they still made that stop in Hartford (even though I only go there once a year!). read more

I've taken megabus 3-4 times, all in 2009, so its been a while. I was able to get a seat on top in the front almost every time, which was fun. I dont travel with my laptop, so I wasn't concerned with wi-fi. My biggest complaint was my last trip home to BOS from NYC. i signed up for the last one of the night (maybe 1am or so), so I could just come home after a concert and not have to find a friend to stay with and prolong my trip in dirty NYC. (Sorry but I hate NYC. I only go there to see bands that don't come to new england) It was December so it was c-o-l-d. It was also late at night near Penn Station, aka s-k-e-t-c-h-y. I got hit on by a couple bums. Awesome. I had to pretend to be on the phone for a little while to get this one guy to leave me alone. But back to the bus. It was late. LIke an hour late. And no one knew what was going on. There was one guy working/there to collect tickets, and he told us he was supposed to have punched out but wanted to wait around and see what happened to our bus, since if this one didnt show, we would be stranded until 6am or something ridiculous. Eventually the bus came, I crawled inside and tried to sleep on the way home. Did I mention there was also a snow storm that night? Yeah that made for a fun ride. That was the one time I didnt sit in front. I did not want a view of any impending accidents. But to be fair, I only paid $1 for this trip, so I guess I got what I paid for... read more

So the first time ever in my 27 years of living on this planet earth I finally had the privilege of experiencing Megabus and needless to say I don't think I will ever try them ever again when it comes to the overall experience. Just to preface my review, this was on the overnight trip to Washington, DC from Boston. First off, the bus left South station roughly 5 minutes behind schedule and this was very indicative that I was about a rolling version of the titanic. Second, at roughly 3am they had to stop the bus on the side of I-84 and shut off the engine which was odd at the time. This was a clear indication that I was literally entering hell. Why would I say that? Because the temp in the bus suddenly shot up from cool to fire pit of hell. We got a breakfast break in Woodbridge after reaching Secuacus Junction which was nice but I felt this was only the beginning. The bus driver had a sense of humor but even people were getting fed up with her as time went on. With very little sleep and dawn breaking I tried to sleep as much as I could going from NJ to Philly and even then it was tough since it was unbearably hot. Then in Cherry Hill, NJ our bus driver told us that we were switching buses and she had no clue why (we damn well knew why, it felt like God was punishing us on that bus!) so we ended up doing a quick switch and it felt much better with the cool air on there finally! After that we ended up stopping at some rest stop in Maryland for roughly 30 minutes and we were at the point where we just wanted to just get there, I was. I tried to negotiate with my friend who was supposed to pick us up to see what he could do yet he couldn't pick us up because he had to go into work. After that and a 15 minute weigh station stop (gotta love bureaucracy) we ended up making a stop outside a shopping mall outside of Baltimore(like really? A shopping mall?) we made a short stop there and the bus driver wouldn't even let my friend get a quick smoke break in. Needless to say, he was pissed. Finally, to put the icing on the cake to this big mistake we ended up in traffic that was nearly 10 minutes long making us late even further and in conclusion, nearly 12 hours later we finally arrived in DC and because we were later than expected we both had to lug my friends 50 pound bags on the Metro to my friends destination since our friend down there had to go into work! Saying "you only live once" may be a good excuse to endure a 12 hour overnight bus from Boston to Washington, D.C. But would I recommend doing it? Of course not. Hence why I flew back for my return trip which was much more pleasant minus a crying baby on board the jet but I'll take that for an hour compared to this! read more

Do not use this company. They are CROOKS. I bought a round trip ticket to Philly online. When I got the email confirmation, it was for two of the same trips. That shouldn't even be an option when purchasing a round trip ticket. $90 for two exact same trips. I called and they told me they have a no refund policy. WHAT?! The should no interest in resolving this and we're callous assholes. I had to call my credit card to dispute the charges. Horrible. read more
