Why is it the two times I've taken this bus it's taken me between 5-5.5hrs from Boston to New York? If I hop on any other bus it's taken me no more than 4.5hrs even with traffic. Megabus takes a shitty route and drives through Harlem for an hour before getting to our final destination. Speaking of, the drop-off is in the middle of town, the most touristy part of the city and an area I usually avoid. The seats are really uncomfortable and the crowd can pretty annoying and elitist. The power outlets is a nice touch and it can feel a little safer than others, but I will never get back those wasted hours and this backache sucks. I usually fly into NY and am new to getting in by bus and you will never see me on MegaBus again. I ended up forfeiting my return trip with them and hopped on the Fung Wah. Damn awful. read more

Please do yourself a favor and avoid megabus. I had a 815 am trip to dc and the bus is over an hour late! I understand maybe 20 minutes or so, but this is unacceptable. Everyone waiting for this bus has been uncomfortably crouching on the floor for the past hour something, while the bus next to us has efficiently loaded and sent off 2 buses! The market for cheap buses has expanded greatly now, and you have tons of dirt cheap bus fares to find elsewhere. I am definitely going with Fung wah, lucky star, or bolt bus next time! many of the alternatives also offer dollar fares too! Since I know that extremely delayed buses are not an uncommon occurrence with Megabus, I'm assuming they have gotten a little big headed and are slacking off in their business and service to their customers. So go have a better experience somewhere else! read more

Mega-Fail! (I stole that from another review) I attempted to take the mega bus to NYC on a sat. morning at 7am. I got there at about 6:50, and went into the bus line. Myself and several others were turned away for not having tickets (fair enough) and told to go to the customer service booth... were there was nobody working! I went back to the bus which was about half full, and asked if i could buy a ticket w/ he driver as there was nobody at the counter and was told "no". I stood a the counter until 7:10 (the time that the 7am bus departed) without anyone showing up, I explained the situation to the driver who refused to let me board w/o a ticket, sell me a ticket, or let my buy a ticket in NYC...... FAIL! Interesting business strategy.. turn away people who want to ride the bus, when the bus is half full (or half empty) Megasuck. I'm stickin' to the Fung Wah ! read more

My sister booked a bus from Boston to Philadelphia on December 26th on an 11:20PM bus. Snow was predicted but wasn't falling, though it was raining. The bus showed up an hour and a half late - unlucky but not unreasonable. However, the bus driver announced that they needed to go pick up the replacement bus driver and they would be back in 30 minutes. They returned at 4:15AM. At no point did any passenger receive a text message or email that the bus was running late. The megabus app that supposedly tracks your bus was even less than useless. When we called the dispatch office, they claimed that the bus driver got lost getting to the hotel with the replacement driver. However, even after the bus driver was supposedly at the hotel, it took over two hours for the bus to come back. The bus company made it impossible for anyone to leave for 5 hours because no one wanted to forfeit the cost of their ticket. Overall, this company seemed to have several mechanisms for communicating with their customers that all failed. If they had cancelled the bus or given a real estimate of the bus's arrival, we could easily have put my sister on another bus with another company (as all the other bus companies were operating without problems that night). read more

I've used megabus in the past to varying degrees of satisfaction. However, my most recent journey was an especially poor experience. I bought a ticket for the 7:30pm Friday bus from Boston to NYC. The bus was 30min late, arriving at 8pm. At this point, unknown to myself or any of the other passengers waiting in line, passengers from another bus were loaded onto ours. A few people in line made it onto the bus before the remainder of us were stopped and told there was no more room. We were told by a megabus rep that the 7pm bus had experienced mechanical difficulties, so they were given priority on our vehicle (basically, they were given our seats). We were told that we were guaranteed seats on the next bus @ 8:30pm. Adapting to unexpected problems I can understand; What I find really unprofessional and aggravating is that nobody thought to tell everyone who was waiting in line since 7pm for their bus that there was a delay and change of plans. The 8:30 bus was also late to arrive. We didn't depart the station until close to 9:45pm. Again, the passengers weren't notified of any of these delays until the last minute.To top it off, both the driver and Megabus rep were extremely rude, dismissive, and unsympathetic. I called customer service and was put on hold for over 30 minutes. I was finally able to get a refund for my trip, but my 2+ hour delay was worth much more than the $20 ticket that I was refunded. I could have easily taken an alternate bus or even driven myself had we been informed of the situation. Megabus showed very poor professionalism, service, communication, and customer service. I won't be using their services ever again. At least I was able to use the free wifi to write this review. read more

I'm on the MegaBus right now, as a matter of fact.... so my Wi-Fi works!! (It's gone in and out a few times, but I can deal with that). Yay! The bus is fairly clean, and it's not packed so I get the two seats all to myself (yay for traveling on off times). The one thing that I find interesting is that the spacing between the seats is not uniform throughout the bus, there are some seats close together where my knees have a few inches before they'd hit the seat (I'm 5'6") and I have no foot rest... but other seats there is like a foot of space between a woman's knees and the seat in front of her (she also looks about 5'6"ish). So - if you're tall or need a little extra room for whatever reason - scope out the seats if you have that luxury before plopping down. I arrived 25 minutes before my bus was scheduled to leave, walked up to the man with the MegaBus vest on and made sure I was in the right spot for the bus going to my destination. He confirmed, and I was the 2nd one in line. You don't have to get here extra early like you do for Greyhound buses - but you don't want to get there too late either or you'll be left with the "scraps" and not your choice of seat. Unlike BoltBus (the other bus option that I know that offers free WiFi) there is no outlet to charge your phone/computer/other electronic device of choice. Therefore, make sure you have a good battery life when you board if you want to be able to use it throughout the trip! I'm so surprised, actually, that they offer free wi-fi on these buses... you can get deals for FREE! Yes... FREE... I said FREE ladies and gentlemen. I wasn't that fortunate this time, but I have found FREE tickets from NYC to DC on megabus before. Just to let you know how inexpensive they are even when booking fairly last minute (booked on Tuesday to leave on Thurs and come back on Sunday... one ticket was $9 and one was $17 - with only a 50cent service charge. heck ya! read more

In theory, Megabus is this tremendously affordable and more comfortable option than other bus lines to get to NYC in a timely manner. In practice, they bait you with faux $1.00 deals and don't keep to a conceivable time schedule and though they have more seats, they aren't really more comfortable. I paid extra for a reserved seat - which is nice because it doesn't matter when you arrive for the bus...you don't have to fret when you see 80 other people in line...crossing your fingers and hoping you don't get stuck next to the bathroom... The seats are so cramped. I sat on the upper deck in the front (panoramic view of the road, which is great until you get into the city and then you are panicking every time you think the driver is going to smash into a car, pedestrian or bicycle) and I'm not a tall person...but my knees were almost jammed against the front. I got lucky this trip and didn't have anyone sitting next to me so I could spread out a bit, but it would have been tight with another passenger. So all that aside, I can deal...$30.00 to get to NYC versus $198.00 one-way on Acela... But...I can't deal with being late...and my bus was late by 90 minutes. That's an extra hour and half of being cramped in a seat, stuck in NYC traffic and wishing I had just taken the train. When others state in previous reviews that you have at least an hour to go when you hit Yonkers...they aren't kidding. We hit Yonkers at 5:35 PM and were due at 27th Street at 5:45 PM. We didn't get there until 7:16 PM...yuck. read more

I've taken a few trips on Megabus to/from New York, and it has generally been good, so when they offered some great fares to Washington, I figured I'd try out the long ride. -I was booked to go out a week ago Wednesday night - when we had a big snow storm. All busses and trains were cancelled, which I certainly can't complain about. I called Megabus, and they rebooked me for the next day - no problem, no extra charge. - The ride from Boston-Washington left on time and arrived an hour early. -The ride back on Monday night left on time at 915pm, and then ran into a little difficulty. Apparently a rock or something from the road hit and cracked the windshield. The driver advised that we would need to switch busses. He drove the bus to a truckstop nearby in New Jersey where we were met by the replacement bus. Our wait was minimal. I was impressed how quickly the replacement bus arrived, luggage was moved, we switched busses, and were on our way. The drive continued to be slow due to the weather and traffic. The driver was frriendly, honest, and even funny. "Folks, we're going to be late" he announced. "I'm sorry if you have any early appointments, but I'm going to get you there." It is very impressive when a company can handle difficult problems and challenges well. read more

So I had taken this bus to Burlington, VT a few months ago from Boston and found it to be clean and comfortable with no glitches at all. I sat on the upper level. Maybe the no glitch part was because it was it was midday on a weekday?? Because my experience this weekend was a 180. So four of us on my strong and enthusiastic recommendation went from Boston to NYC. We had reserved seats thank God because our first experience was watching three young ladies being badgered into one of them getting off the bus by the boarding agent who insisted one of them get off because the bus was full. Young lady tried to state her case that a man got on after them. I don't know what the truth was but the three all got off. It was just not a pleasant way to start. Oh also the driver yelled at a passenger who left her bag to be loaded. It's really not clear if you are supposed to do it yourself. It felt comfy... For about 5 minutes. Our driver had a not so smooth start and stop foot and frequently passed large semi's on the right leaving my nephew and I looking at each other in terror! At 12 and with no license even he knows this is a no no! We felt like the bus would literally fall apart on every bump. Forget trying to doze off. By the time we made the return home we felt like we had gone 12 rounds with GGG, Pacquiao, Mayweather AND Canelo!! My poor niece was in the vulnerable position of doing her business on one of the more severe of these bumps and hit her head on the wall! The ride back... Many have mentioned the stop's remote location with no benches. That is what it is. The driver was very irritable. The AC was blasting right on my face. He yelled at someone who tried to come down the front stairs to ask him to shut it off. Apparently you have to use the back stairs. He did change it over but then someone else asked him to change it back and soon we were freezing again! Traffic is what it is. They can't control it, so build it in to your travel time. It is very inexpensive and we liked being able to reserve the four top with little table. But not worth the discomfort. Maybe the upper level felt smoother but somehow I doubt it. The massage and chiropractor I'm going to need will negate any savings... read more

I'd like to write a funny review like so many here, but I'm too pissed to be witty and just want to warn people. IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME, OR LIFE, DO NOT TAKE THIS BUS. I made the mistake of not checking these reviews before buying my tickets. (Boston to NYC) The ride to NYC was fine, but on the way back we waited in that parking lot full of bird poop (which got all over our bags) and LITERALLY dodged charging New York City-sized rats along with HUNDREDS of other people until the bus showed up almost TWO HOURS LATER. I had my 7 year old son with me, and even he said "Mommy I can't wait to get home and take a shower." But the ride to NYC had been good, so I gave them my money again a couple months later.This time I was by myself - with no child I figured it would be less stressful. But it was a mistake. Both ways. The bus was late leaving Boston. The wifi didn't work, but that was ok with me, but there was no electricity and no understandable answer from the driver when asked why. And then for whatever reason, the driver decided to stop and give us a bus break for 15 minutes, thereby causing the bus to arrive a half hour late. But the trip back to Boston was even worse. Pouring rain. Standing in that parking lot waiting for a bus that was more than an hour late. No explanation why, no apology. There were what looked like camping tents erected that managed to drip on the first 20 people in a line that wound around the lot twice so if you hadn't been waiting there for over 2 hours already, you were out of luck in any attempt at getting relief from the elements. Once the bus came, we thought we were finally on our way before the bus **literally** grinded to a halt smack dab in the middle of the intersection at 125 & Adam Clayton Powell in Harlem and just sat there. Again, no announcement, no explanation why. After 10 minutes we started again, but now I'm fearful there is something wrong with the bus and we won't make it home alive. There were no lights, the electrical outlets didn't work... after that bus accident that killed those people I swore that if I made it home alive I would never take this bus and warn as many people as I could. I'm so grateful to be home and alive! PLEASE AVOID THIS BUS AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

You're really not that great. You're not as swift and authoritative as the Chinese. You're inefficient, try to organize things, and just end up being slow. Your bus is pretty great. There are some outlets if you know the right seats, and the wifi is easy to access. However, the likelihood of getting delayed by your weird organization and bus schedule between NYC-PHIL-BOS is too much for me. You're just not consistent enough for me to be loyal to you. Let me start by saying that this was the cheapest round trip ticket from Boston to New York I could find ($15 down, $10 back) and I should have known something was up from then on.. If I were just judging this from my departure trip (from Boston) I would have easily given Megabus a 4 out of 5 rating with one star being knocked off for WiFi that lasted only 20 minutes. Good ride down, different story on the way back. My girlfriend and I had a return trip to Boston from NYC at 8:10pm. We arrived at 7:50p to what looked like nothing better than a makeshift refuge camp in an abandoned parking lot. Knock another star off for that. The bus showed up an HOUR late. We were suppose to pull off by 8:10pm and didn't end up leaving until 9:20pm. Bus driver was semi-rude once the bus got on the way saying how he's had a very long day and that we should all keep quite and not come down the front stairs. Overall, very underwhelming experience. If I were a traveler, I would definitely spend the extra $10 - $15 and go with another bus company. read more

Don't let the the brilliant marketing minds at Mega Bus Inc. fool you, this so-called "mega bus" actually fails to live up to the standards most regular of buses. For instance, on my trip from Boston to NYC, the electricity didn't work, the wi-fi didn't work, and we arrived an hour and a half late despite the fact there was no traffic. Normally, I would be willing to look past this boobery, but when I needed to change the time of my return trip, I was met with a chorus of "would like to buts..." and "policy that" from the customer "service" staff. I can't help but feel as if my intelligence is being insulted when a company claims an inability to fill a request when their true intentions, taking more of my money, are as apparent as the stale smell of defeat and pretzeled bread emitted by their bus drivers. Warning - Megabus has seriously jacked up ticket prices for their Boston-New York Route since the death of Fung Wah bus. Even if you book two months in advance prices are still high! I took an early morning bus from New York - Boston. First one of the day. Toilet ws not been cleaned from night before, trash on the bus. Megabus is very slow, it crawls, expect to arrive at you destination one hour later than scheduled or more. You get what you pay for... Which will never, ever be $1 by the way. I'd almost be afraid to take a $1 ride to/from Boston/New York! Our 10 AM bus from Boston to New York did not arrive and start loading passengers until 10:30 ("Traffic" which, oddly, did not impact any other bus line that day...). Our bus driver was either the most cautious driver in the history of transportation or in no real hurry to get us to NY. 2:30 arrival time ended up being 4:45 and brought us through the Lincoln Tunnel. I have flown to European countries in less time. I swear Amtrak is partially responsible for keeping these shady bus companies in business. If the trains weren't so outrageous, I can't imagine so many people would just deal with this service just to save some $$. But if you just need to "get there" and have oodles of time to hang out on a bus, this may be just your ride. read more

I am done with Megabus. Forever. It is the worst! Back in the day when their rates made them by far the cheapest option for intercity travel, they were a reasonable option for the broke student. Now that a weekend fare between Boston and NYC rarely comes out to less than $50 roundtrip, the drawbacks simply aren't worth it. Megabus has an aging fleet of coaches that have seen better days. Every single one I've been on has felt like it's shock absorbers were made of concrete. The passenger feels every little bump in the road, which is terrible if you easily get carsick and are in the upper deck of one of these oversized beasts. The interior of the aforementioned aging fleet is not very well maintained either as the seats are always uncomfortable and the bathroom always seems to smell putrid even at the beginning of a trip. Another annoyance is the frequency of delays. Megabus rarely leaves at the advertised time and always takes extremely roundabout routes that can accomodate the height of the double decker bus. Finally, most megabus "stations" are not stations at all but rather just a randomly selected curb at a generally inconvenient part of town. Port Authority in NYC is a terrible place but I'd still rather be there in a real bus terminal than on some random curb waiting in a makeshift rope line. Farewell Megabus, I will never be using your services again. If I'm ever in a financial situation pressured enough to require the services of a bus line in the future, I'm going with Greyhound Express. read more

the reason i'd recommend megabus is because of how they handled me in nyc when i mosied up at noon, all hungover and eating a hot dog, waiving around my ticket for the long since departed 11am bus back to boston (though it wasn't technically my fault that i was late because i DID set my phone alarm. LG should incorporate better alarms into their phones). i was convinced that i'd have to throw a tantrum in order to avoid buying a new ticket at full price, but it was really fairly easy - i just talked to the first guy i saw who told me to wait in "standby" and then they let me on the next bus for boston without any hassle. no charge. i mean i wouldn't recommend rolling the dice on something like this, but shit happens and when it does it's good to know you're doing business with a company that's pretty good about customer service. oh and just note that unlike the other busses between boston and nyc, megabus DOES NOT STOP so pack a snack and something to drink. read more

I've taken just about every travel means to and from Philadelphia in the Northeast, short of Amtrak. Megabus, for a while, became my standard means of transport. With its seemingly cheap fares, large seating capacity, free wifi and power...it did seem for a bit to be a great deal. But then, I noticed that the more regularly I took it, the worse it got. Can't say the reason for this, maybe it was just that I noticed more, but at this moment, I'm presently on board what I intend to be my last Mega Bus trip ever. First off, I've noticed that the quality and professionalism of the driver is an absolute crap shoot. Twice I've experienced a friendly, courteous, professional driver, who not only got us to our destination on time, but did so while still making the much appreciated pit stop at least once in the seven hour ride. However aside from those, my experiences with Megabus drivers have been those of late arrival and departure, a rotten attitude towards myself and other passengers and sadly and quite often, terrible English. On four separate trips, I've had drivers stop the buses at random locations along the highway just to stretch their own legs, while insisting no one else move. When one got upset about the ambient light of a laptop while on an overnight ride, he promptly shut off the air, wifi and electricity and refused, not only to turn them on again, but to acknowledge anyone who attempted to address it. Additionally, their policies regarding changes and cancellations are dependent on the rider's ability to foresee through psychic powers, issues that may affect their travels. Should you break down on the way to your bus terminal, fall ill, need to rearrange or cancel for whatever reason, tough titties. Their tickets are non transferable. So unlike the airlines, which are well reputed for poor service, should you miss your trip, you cannot reschedule using the same tickets and they won't refund your money. Even the Chinatown lines, with all their problems, will do this for you. The fact that the self-proclaimed "professional and courteous" Mega Bus line cannot even honor a sound business practice as well as the Fung Wah or New Century is sad. And it is for these reasons and more which I'll not go into now, that this shall be my final Mega Bus ride, unless circumstance absolutely demands it otherwise. Bolt Bus...you've just earned a new loyal customer. (Added note: The WiFi is terrible. Not only does the signal strength fool you into thinking you've got real internet to surf, but their network has blocked most sites worth visiting. I mean really...who blocks Youtube?) read more

Bus was for 9:30 PM, got to the station at 9:00 PM and a fellow passengers said that he heard that things were delayed coming out of NYC and our bus would be 4 hours late. We and our fellow passengers called Megabus every 15 minutes being told for 4 hours that "they don't have any information on the bus yet, please call back". Every bus that arrived had a driver that said that they didn't know what was going on, but were not going back to NYC. At 12:30 AM we received an email saying that our bus would arrive in 15 minutes. After an hour Megabus said they still had no information on our bus. Left the terminal at 2:00 AM... still no bus. Will never, ever use Megabus again. read more

I've taken the Megabus between Boston and New York City about 30 times so far. I would say that so far, there were no complications about 80% of the time. The seats are usually clean, the ride tends to be less bumpy if you sit on the right side of the bus, and the average time that it takes the bus to travel from Boston to NYC and vice versa is about 5.5 hours. Traveling between Manhattan and the toll booth after Yonkers is usually a full hour, at least. Sometimes the bus goes into New Jersey to bypass Manhattan traffic, but this happens EXTREMELY rarely. Also, avoid sitting in the bottom seats that are near the bathroom, as you will be smelling strong chemical smells of ammonia the entire ride. I always sit on the top deck and do not smell anything. With that in mind, I had a HORRIBLE experience on the Megabus today: a) The bus drivers do not have GPS or any sort of warnings about which routes to take to bypass traffic. My driver unnecessarily drove into a traffic-heavy route that caused us to spend an hour standing in traffic for 10 miles in the small towns right before the tollbooth into Yonkers. b) After we finally escaped the traffic, the driver pulled up onto a truck stop right past the tollbooth and told us she has surpassed the legal limit of how much time she is allowed to drive and that we needed to wait for a replacement driver, who would arrive in 20 minutes. Twenty minutes later.... we were told it would be another twenty minutes. Another twenty minutes later.... we were told it would be another forty five minutes. Some passengers asked if they could be let off the bus and wait outside, or be picked up, and the driver started yelling at them that if they attempt to leave the bus, she would call the police on them. She locked the doors of the bus so that people could not even wait outside. Three Megabuses passed us during this waiting time. Overall, about 1.5 hours passed before the replacement driver arrived. c) Passengers that attempted to contact Megabus customer service during the wait were told to call again after they get off the bus. d) This bus had initially left Boston at 7AM, stopped in Yonkers at 12:10PM, started moving again at 1:40PM, and then spent another 2 hours in traffic in the Bronx, and another one hour in traffic moving down 9th avenue in Manhattan. The bus driver did not attempt to drive down 11th avenue to avoid the crazy Friday 4PM traffic between 57th and 40th street, where we moved a block per 3 minutes. Overall, the bus left Boston at 7AM, and arrived at 27th street at 4:45PM. This was a 9.75 hour bus ride from Boston to NYC... The scheduled arrival time had been 12PM. e) No explanation was given for the lateness, or why the replacement driver had not ALREADY been waiting for us, especially since the first driver had caused us to spend an unnecessary hour in traffic. Had we avoided the traffic and arrived at Yonkers at 11:10AM, would we have still needed to wait until 1:40PM for a driver to show up??? Overall, this experience really makes me reconsider turning to Megabus in the future. read more

What's going on Megabus? In the last 6 months things took a serious nosedive. My bus to NYC that was to leave at noon left at 1:30, on the way home I got on a bus an hour early and arrived home at the same time. It almost feels like they make a schedule more as a suggestion than as a general rule. I picked the noon bus since I needed to be in NYC by 5. I got there after 6:30. This is really not acceptable, esp. since no one who works for Megabus seemed to be able to provide anyone with any information what so ever. After previous good experiences I was disappointed. While waiting had more than one person state that Bolt was a better bus line, they just didn't have the times they needed so they resorted to Megabus. Cheap? Yes. Megabus posted a 45-60 minute delay on the morning of departure-upon arriving at the newly estimated departure time along with 20+ others, was told that the bus had departed actually on time. Below is the email I just sent to Megabus after waiting for 2 hours for a 4pm bus. Notably, they have a "no refund policy." But I have a "no paying for something that never shows up" policy. Perhaps you saw us.....you BoltBus riders who left on one of the Bolt Bus options on Friday. Or perhaps you're the guy sitting next to me on the Fung Wah - where I finally bought a ticket. No wifi, no "upper deck," but at least they drive like crazy so I can make up some lost time to New York. That and they have the distinct advantage of a bus that actually showed up at South Station! --------------------------- TO: Mega Bus It is completely unacceptable that: -it is 6pm and the bus has not arrived yet -the four other companies operating this route have left on time -your ticket agent has NO information about the arrival time -your customer service line has NO information about the arrival time -there are over 100 people in line with NO information about arrival time What started as poor operations when the bus was 30 minutes late has turned into a terrible customer service situation. Never again. I'm writing this review while on the bus from Boston to New York. I am very dissatisfied. The bus was supposed to leave at 6AM. The driver was nowhere to be found until 6:07AM. There was also no one around to keep an eye on the passengers... There were plenty of people who cut the line. The driver also didn't care when people cut the line in front of him. Hello, I got in this line half an hour before everyone else so that I could pick my seat, not get stuck in the back of the bus! The seats on the bus are shot. Most are stuck in the reclined position, some are missing the recliner handle so they cannot be de-reclined. There was also a seat that was broken. The seat cushion was missing, and the seat was reclined so far back that I don't think it's ever going to come forward again. Megabus, if you're reading this, the bus number is DD465. The bus driver also didn't speak much English. He spent 10 minutes arguing and borderline yelling with customers in Spanish. I am not Hispanic or of Hispanic descent, and do not look Hispanic at all, but I understand enough Spanish to know what was going on. The bus driver was yelling at the couple and their three children because they did not have tickets for the children. He said that every seat is reserved and that the children cannot take up a seat if they don't have tickets. The parents refused to budge, and the driver saw that there were no more people getting on, and decided to let them slide. The couple's little girl wanted to know where she could sit. The driver came to me and rudely told me to move. Excuse me? This is my seat. I came before them, I picked it first. If the kid wants to sit in the window seat, she can have it, but if you're going to put her in my aisle seat, then please put me in another aisle seat. I'm not trying to be insensitive, but I'm a big guy, and the seats are cramped as hell. I need an aisle seat to be able to spread out for some knee and shoulder space to be comfortable for the 4.5 hour trip. The kid saw that there was an empty aisle seat behind her parents (which the driver should have seen in the first place) and decided to sit there. Oh, did I mention that the seats were cramped as hell? I've been on airplanes with wider seats that had more legroom! At least the power outlets and WiFi work (for now). Megabus is sooooooo overated! Don't waste your time kheds, learn from the Jedi Master! Reason #1 Megabus drops you off in a part of NY that takes fucking forever to get to once you get into the city! It seems so much faster when using other bus companies! I feel like once we get to Harlem and were driving around its at least another fucking 30 mins before I actually get off the god damn bus! Reason #2 The power outlets for your phone/laptop have a 50/50 chance of working! This shit sucks, especially if your going to be walking around NY all day, or trying to reach your girl after getting off a four hour ride. I took a Boston to New York bus on a Thursday. We were scheduled to arrive around 8:15pm. Not only did we leave late, but we stopped for food at a rest stop. Instead of arriving at 8:15, we pulled into our stop nearly 2 hours later than our designated time. The driver made no effort to communicate what the hold up was and left us in the dark for the entire trip. On top of that the Wi-fi did not work for the entire trip. On my bus back to Boston we left 45 minutes late and the AC was not working on a 80+ degree day. And of course this is the time we do not stop at a rest stop for food or water - I was so dehydrated from an extra long bus ride in a sauna! (and once again the wifi did not work for me) Not to mention the ticket prices have sky rocketed. Next time I may be willing to pay more for another method of transportation so I may be comfortable, cool, and actually on time. read more

Just recently had a journey from Boston to Washington DC. The bus had no heat, and it was 10 hours ride! By the end of this trip I was extremely cold, even though I've covered myself with everything I had. ALSO! after 10 minutes in the bus guess who was crawling my jeans? GUESS!! YEA it was f.. BED BUG!!!! Guys, seriously, you have a great buses, why don't you take a simple care of them? I pay you money to get from point A to point B, not to get sick, and infest my home with bed bugs. Do NOT travel on Megabus!!! I took the bus from NYC to Boston and was delayed for over an hour because the company did not take the time or effort to check the tires before the bus pulled out. The driver stopped us in an inconvenient location to wait for the net bus that then took longer to get to the destination than the bus that was scheduled an hour after it. I was late for a very important conference and all they offered in compensation is another bus ride with them. I don't want to ever take the chance of traveling with them again! I'm disgusted. If I could give zero stars or minus stars they would get -5 stars. Like most of the reviews I am writing this review as we are waiting for a driver replacement on the side of the road... That's what they told us 30min ago!!! I should stop hoping it'll get better and choose another company. What bother me the most is that they don't care at all! No excuses and barely an explanation... Last time with them! Update on this review. The driver never showed up and after 1.30h waiting on the side of the road with no update about the situation. Most of the passengers ended up calling an Uber. That's what I did I shared an Uber with 3 other passengers to go to Manhattan. They should really add a "0 star" option for these kinds of moments. The gist of this review is never date anyone who has the mannerisms of Megabus because you will be disappointed. Late. No notification. No communication. Terrible customer service (they shouldn't even be allowed to call it that). No apologies. And they acted like everything was okay. Really, who would want to date someone like that? Avoid Megabus at all costs and only take it if absolutely necessary. Unfortunately it's the only bus that takes you from Boston to Philly overnight, but regardless, the experience can be just absolutely horrendous. read more

I consider myself to be an expert in the NYC- Boston bus route. I'm a poor college student. My family lives near NYC. I go to school in Boston. I am currently relocated to Brooklyn for an internship. My friends and boyfriend remain in Boston. Boston- NYC bus routes are important. Megabus is probably my least favorite. As someone with motion sickness, I often find it difficult to find a seat I can stand for the entire trip- which ends up being longer than any other bus ride, but that's for later- because of the double decker idea. Sitting on the top is uncomfortably nauseating and sitting on the top in the back is near impossible, even with a noteworthy Dramamine habit. I've tried getting there earlier for the best seat. Hours earlier. There is always someone there before me. The second awful thing about Megabus is that they have to drive all the way through Manhattan because of how obnoxiously large they are. They have these buses in Prague too, but it makes more sense to use the double deckers on the spacious highways of the Czech Republic, sans overpasses and bridges. This leads me to my third complaint... it has never been on time. Not once. Ever. The last time I took it, it was forgivable because it began to snow and we had to pull over to the side of the road for a bit. The worst time, however, was the second weekend in December when my boyfriend and I were left with all the other passengers for over an hour in the cold because the bus was running late. Then we hit traffic because we left later than we had planned. 6 hours should have been sufficient in getting us there with all these delays, but it wasn't even. Ugh. The last part is probably less attributable to Megabus and more to it's annoying passengers, but people should know how to queue by the time they can ride a big kid bus. This is to you, all you people in NY who KNOW the line goes the length of the bus by Penn Station, but insist on cutting in from where the ACE is. You guys are jerks. I am adding a star for location. I live(d) and work(ed) in the South End, so it's a super easy trip back to where I need to go/where I'm coming from, without having to pay for a cab or deal with that red-orange line nonsense. read more

I usually take the NYC to Boston round trip route. Megabus can always be counted on to find the absolute longest way, generally driving uptown through all of Manhattan's traffic, to get to New England. (I'm assuming to avoid tolls, which Megabus should be able to afford as their prices have skyrocketed.) In addition, their customer service is horrendous. I had to cancel a recent trip so I both called and emailed to change my tickets to a later date. I couldn't get through over the phone and by the time my email was answered, the window for a refund had passed. Somehow this became my fault and I was refused trip credit by very rude and insistent "customer support specialists." Absolutely never using Megabus again. I'm all for Yo!Bus now. They appreciate their customers and their buses are actually clean and roomy. read more

My mom and I took the Megabus from Boston to NYC and back again a few days later. Into New York we reserved seats at a table which was very comfy and we got to sleep most of the way. We stopped once for a quick break and they were very punctual about getting us back on the road. Our bus driver was very sweet as well! On the way back to Boston, we weren't able to reserve seats so we had to sit in some uncomfortable bus seats, but honestly, that's to be expected. The bus left right on time, the driver seemed to drive safely and it was a pleasant and smooth ride. I would recommend Mega bus completely and would definitely ride with them again for a cheap bus ride to NYC! read more

Can I give no stars? I frequently travel by bus Boston-NY, NY-Boston and have taken Fung Wah, Bolt Bus, Lucky Star and ALMOST Megabus. After a long weekend in NY, my fiancee and I decided to go ahead and pay the $24.00 each (vrs $10 for LS of FW). We rolled up the corner the buses pick you up at thrilled by the prospect of riding back to Boston on the top floor of a double-decker bus with free wi-fi and more leg room. There were HUNDREDS of confused people waiting outside with no shade in 94 degree heat and no signs, no workers, nothing. We got in a line that had formed for Boston...was it the 1:00? The 1:15? The 1:30? No one knew and there was no one there to direct us...not even a sign! A driver actually got off of one of the buses so we asked "where is this bus going?" to which the driver replied "Boston". Awesome! Finally! We ask "What time does this bus leave?" he said "I don't know" and climbed back in the bus. WHAT?!! You don't know? 1.5 hours later no buses have left, no one has given us an explanation or an expected time of departure and we're standing like cattle in the unbearable mid day sun/heat left to guess. So we cabbed it to China town and caught the Lucky Star. Bought our tickets 5 minutes before departure, $10.00 each in an air conditioned building with restrooms and staff. We actually ended up passing one of the Megabuses that left earlier that day!! Delays happen but this is a business that has several others to compete with. One would think they'd want to make their customers happy and there were a lot of very unhappy people that day. They aren't even cheap!! Don't waste your money. read more

I considered renting a car to visit my friends in Burlington, yet I dislike driving so much that I researched other options. There isn't a convenient train from Boston to Burlington, so I was left with the bus. Despite reading a good deal of one and two star reviews from miffed customers, I still decided to take the Megabus and, boy, am I glad I did. I'm such a fan of Megabus that I actually joined Yelp so I could give them four stars. Also, even though I get around day-to-day using city buses, the T and cabs, I hadn't taken a coach bus in my adult life, so I had many questions around what I suppose could be described as protocol. Hopefully my Yelp here can help others like me. The Megabus stop in Boston is at South Station. It takes about ten minutes to walk from the T, through the train station, down the commuter rail platform to the bus terminal. I arrived an hour early but this is not necessary unless you have your heart set on sitting in one of the four seats in the very front row of the second level. There's only a window in front of you, so these are the best seats in the house for enjoying the scenery. There's something unsettling about these seats to me, so I did not arrive early to get them. I just wasn't sure if it was anything like an airport. It's not. About 40 minutes before the bus arrived we were able to "line up." During "line up", a Megabus worker swung by and yelled out that our bus was going to be about 45 minutes late because it had broken down. It was a real casual, straightforward announcement. It was awkward. We all just stood there because nobody wanted to lose their place in line. The seating is not predetermined, so good line placement is key. The bus did indeed arrive 45 minutes later and we began boarding. I've deducted half a star for the late arrival. I picked a seat on the second level of the double decker bus, right by the emergency exit. I feared the way people chose their seating would be so unbalanced that the bus would tip, but all my anxiety washed away when I reclined back in my seat. The legroom is phenomenal and the seat reclines quite far back, resulting in ultimate comfort. I also liked the festive, confetti pattern the seats are upholstered in. A stranger did not sit next to me. Most of us had two seats to ourselves. We hit traffic so our driver took us off the highway. Unfortunately, the alternate route was a clogged one-way road that must of been a mistake. Fellow passengers were rumbling to themselves. I overheard quiet rants like, "Where are we?", "Why did we leave the highway?" and "We're never going to get there." I've deducted a half a star for this poor choice in navigation. The rest of the ride was smooth sailing! The temperature in the bus was lovely. I did some reading, took a little cat nap and felt cozy, relaxed and pretty wonderful as we rolled along through New Hampshire into beautiful Vermont. To my dismay, it was dark by the time we were in Vermont, so I wasn't able to take in the pretty views. More importantly though, I arrived in Burlington rested, relaxed and with a fully charged phone thanks to the Megabus power outlet next to my seat. Where you're dropped in Vermont is just a sidewalk with a small MegaBus sign on the UVM campus. It took my friend a while to find me. She had to beep her horn and when I heard it in the distance, I'd guess as to which way she should go. The ride back was even better. There was no "line up" at the Burlington stop. We all just kind of lingered until the bus pulled up. Sure enough, it arrived right on time and we made it back to Boston in only three and a half hours. It was morning time, so the beautiful Vermont scenery along the highway as seen from the top level of the Megabus was nothing short of glorious. I'm delighted there's a Megabus that travels between Burlington and Boston. I prefer to sit back and relax over renting a car and doing the actual driving. The price is right, to boot, let me tell you! My round trip ticket was only $43. That's the quarter of the price of renting a Nissan Altima. I plan to travel via Megabus to Burlington often and would recommend this bus line to others. read more

I took mu first jaunt to New York on Megabus a week ago. Out of all the inexpensive bus lines that go from Boston to New York they are the most unorganized. First of all if you forget to being your printout you cant get on the bus. All the other bus lines issue you tickets at the terminals. This one does not. There is not over head space for your bags and since the bus is a double it sits 81 passengers and it has one bathroon, which you smell throughout the trip regardless of where you are sitting. I would definetly consider other choices before taking the megabus. Trust me when I tell you it is a nightmare. read more
