I write this recommendation as a reflection of the process we went through with Mr. Park. We weren't sure what to do or what we were looking for when we searched for a counselor. We searched and met with a few counselors before deciding to go with Mr. Park. It is one of the best things we did for our child and for ourselves. Mr. Park helped our child navigate through his entire high school and the college application process. Mr. Park continues to mentor him even after our son graduated high school and left for college. My friend and I (both sophomores) took English classes from Mega Prep for the May 6th SAT. It was more like one-on-one tutoring which I preferred to a traditional classroom setting and the teacher was always enjoyable to be around. He appears gruff the first time you meet him but he really is determined to see you achieve your goal. His training is rigorous and challenging but I can't argue with the results, or his special brand of humor as he pushes you towards that elusive high score. Although I will no longer be taking classes with him, I would strongly recommend him to any interested in taking the SAT. (I spent about 5 - 6 months in his courses, and ended with a 1460/1600 on the new SAT first try, and will not be taking it again) read more

I highly recommend this place to anybody who needs an SAT score boost or college app help. Before coming here I looked into Flex, Ivymax, the Princeton Review, HS2, and JQ, and after asking around I found out that none of them fulfilled what they advertised. Many of my friends who took their classes told me their scores went up very slightly or not at all, and whatever little points they gained were not because of the teachers but because of the repetitive practice. Additionally their student to teacher ratios were very high, so you couldn't ask many questions or get help in areas where you needed it. After coming here, my score went up by 400 points. The classes are structured very uniquely so you focus primarily on skills that you struggle with and get personalized practice problems. There's a "level" structure so you master how to do problems of a certain difficulty before you move to more challenging problems and learning this way really helped my raise my score quickly. I also learned how to read the different types of passages (for critical reading), identify common patterns/structures, and other skills that helped me understand how to master the test each time I took it. I think that's what really makes this place different, that you don't learn how to "cheat" problems, but rather you really understand the purpose of every question and how the test is made. The owner is also very knowledgable and personally teaches classes one on one so you can ask a lot of questions and clear your confusions. He genuinely cares about increasing your score and isn't trying to make as much money as he can off of every kid (Something I saw at the other centers where they kept trying to sell me packages that I didn't need). You do classes in areas that you need help in, nothing unnecessary or pointless. Since I was referred here I told my friends who went to HS2 and Ivy Max about this place and they decided to sign up after years of stagnant scores; their score went up right away in two months at Mega Prep. I'm currently doing college applications here and I'm getting a lot of unique help and advice that my school counselors or google weren't able to tell me. The process is very thorough and individualized so that I'm applying to schools that are good for me and am doing everything I can to ensure that I get in. I have some friends a couple years older then me who did apps with Mega Prep and all of them got into basically all of their top schools (most with full rides, all with at least 50% aid for four years). Also the writing I've learned so far has also helped me in school for normal essays and reports. I'm honestly very happy with what I've accomplished here and am very glad that I decided to come here last year instead of one of the other test prep centers. The attention I get is holistic and creative and I'd probably be very stressed if I had to worry about getting in college by myself. For anybody trying to find improve their SAT/ACT scores, MegaPrep is definitely the place to go. At MegaPrep, students are provided with everything essential to succeed in standardized testing, whether that may be a limitless supply of real practices, a detailed explanation of any question you may come across, or one-on-one analysis of your strengths and weaknesses. Since some of the classes may come close to meal times, the location of MegaPrep makes it easy to get some good food before or after class. While the outside of MegaPrep may look intimidating to some, the inside is very comfortable and spacious. After reading this, some people might say that I'm biased since I attended this academy. That may be true, but my high review of MegaPrep isn't baseless. Before attending this academy, I've looked into many different test prep centers (like Flex and HS2), asked a few friends on their opinions, and even tried listening to a few of their "lectures." Expecting to learn something that was mind-blowing and genius, I quickly realized that the teachers at other places never seemed to answer the questions posed by students and only reiterated on things that most students already knew. Rather than truly "teaching," the teachers at other prep centers tended to teach more on "test taking techniques." However, I didn't think that was significantly helping any of the students and simply wasn't what I was looking for. So my search of the "perfect test prep center" continued. Somewhere down the line, a senior friend of mine introduced me to MegaPrep. When I asked what classes were like, he described them as "super beneficial" and "something worth looking forward to." To be honest, I went into MegaPrep thinking that my friend was only exaggerating, but that wasn't the case. When I first went inside, I was amazed by the learning environment. The students were studying hard and attentive in class, but looked so happy. Following a long talk with the owner (super smart Korean guy!), I was given an essay to write and a SAT diagnostic test to complete. After that, my results were analyzed and I was assigned to a level for each of the three sections: critical reading, grammar, and math. In the classes sorted out by levels, students were given all the aid they needed. Classes were taught at a pace that ensured true learning and clear understanding of any confusions students may have had. Instead of teaching random test techniques, teachers helped students develop skills that could be applied directly on the test as well as in everyday life. For critical reading, I learned how to identify passage types, understand passage organization, find the opinions and supporting examples, and so much more. For grammar, I learned how certain grammar structures worked, the rules, the tenses, what was on the test and what wasn't on the test but still should be understood. For math, I absorbed techniques and methods that allowed me to solve questions faster but ensured accurate answers. All in all, the classes gave me skills that I could apply on the test, in school, and even in the future. The teachers were engaging while teaching the material, keeping the class lively. At the end of the trial session, I had so much fun learning that I told my mom that MegaPrep had the strict, fun, informative classes that I was looking for and promptly signed up. read more

I definitely recommend Megaprep as a student who attended for around two years. I took the summer SAT classes and the personal ACT classes. I was also in the college admissions essay class. I have had a good experience at this academy, getting a score that was in my goal. The teachers and classes are very personal, which helps the student fix their problems quickly, without simply being taught the "way to take the test". Megaprep is one of the best places for that incoming junior who does not know much about college entrance exams. You will be provided everything you need to succeed and practice unlike other common test prep centers such as Flex or Ivymax. There is also homework and structured classes that provide a strict yet beneficial element to your college entrance exams preparations. You will definitely receive one to one help here if you need it because of the level based program here. If you decide to check out megaprep, you will be offered a practice test and your score will be analyzed. The spacious environment and nearby access to food places makes this a great place to hang out and study after your previous activies. Also the free wifi is great and superfast!!!!!! Personally, I raised my score from 1700 to 2200 which is a raise of 500 points. I learned the complex structure of the SAT test and how it is made. From there, I was able to succeed particularly well at at the critical reading and the grammar sections. The math section was difficult for me, but I was able to get a decent score because of the practice that mega prep provided me with. As of now, I am preparing for college applications and taking college counseling from mega prep. The one to one help I am receiving to write my essays is extremely valuable and streamlining the college application process. Mr. Park worked with my daughter one on one for SAT English and gave her specific feedback and strategies to improve her score. Mr. Park watches over every student personally. If my daughter forgot a 4:00pm class he would call at 4:05pm and ask "Where are you?" He is strict but gets work done. He also had the students working on their essays way ahead of time which felt like too much work at first but life saver in the end. Mr. Park's essay editing skills are top quality.
