Dipti is an incredible tutor for physics, calculus, and even college essays. She asks thoughtful guiding questions that actually make you think, instead of just giving answers, and she always makes sure there's time to pause for me to take notes. Her explanations are concise but still super informative--she can literally summarize an entire unit in a day without it ever feeling rushed or overwhelming. For ACT prep, we only had about a month, and as someone who really struggles with standardized tests, she made the whole process finally make sense. With her strategies and support, I was able to raise my reading score from a 29 to a 35, which I honestly never thought was possible. AJ Tutoring as a whole is an amazing place. Everyone is kind, welcoming, and genuinely supportive, and they even think about the small details like snacks, which makes a big difference during long sessions. I interviewed several test prep companies and decided to go with AJ tutoring. My son was assigned to David Griswald. David came to our house for the sessions. He was on time, enthusiastic (unlike my teen), engaging, and incredibly knowledgable about the test, format, process, etc. He is exactly what you are looking for in a tutor. I found some of the other companies to be much more aggressive, which I thought was not a good fit for my son. David helped us determine which test to take between the ACT or SAT. We decided on the ACT and he guided my son through exercises and practice tests. He learned about timing, eliminating answers and more. David and I worked together to determine the frequency of the tutoring (I didn't want too many sessions that were unnecessary). David also checked in at the end of each session with both my son and me to recap what was covered, what the homework was for the next session and how my son was progressing. If there were any concerns they would have been brought out in this process. The results were very good scores. We have re-hired David to prep my son for some SAT subject tests. read more

Our daughter worked with Julia to prepare for the ISEE lower school test. Julia is an experienced tutor and is able to build a rapport with kids of all ages. Julia would provide an assessment early and then work to strengthen targeted areas. I went to AJ Tutoring after being less than satisfied with another local tutoring company, and in order to help prepare my middle school daughter to take the HSPT test. We worked with tutor David Griswold for several weeks and he was fantastic! While my daughter is a diligent student and also very bright (no subjectivity here!), David helped her through each of the various sections of the test; assigned homework in between tutoring sessions; signed her up for several, full length, practice exams before the test (administered by AJ Tutoring at no extra cost); was EXCELLENT about communicating with me regarding how my daughter was doing, what she needed to work more on, what she already had down, etc. He offered helpful suggestions about other tools we could use to assist with vocabulary, for example. He is also positive toward and respectful of his students. While my daughter usually scores well on standardized tests, her performance on the HSPT was OUTSTANDING. I also found all of the staff at AJ Tutoring helpful and responsive. Their offices in Los Altos and Palo Alto are very nice (clean; spacious for waiting parents; coffee available, etc.). read more
