We have been using AJ on and off for a few years, and this past year was especially helpful for my son in his trig class at MVHS. Once his grade started to slip significantly, we reached out to AJ and were paired with Tyler. He was instrumental in helping my son not only raise his grade, but also build the confidence he needed to succeed. He is now helping other students in the class and scoring much higher on his tests and quizzes. We are very grateful for Tyler's support and highly recommend AJ Tutoring. read more

My son received math tutoring for BC Calculus from Tyler Vanvalkenburg who was EXCELLENT. Tyler was effective in explaining concepts in a way that stuck for my son, enabling my son to earn an A on his final exam and improving his overall grade. The reason I'm writing the review is because in addition to being a great tutor, Tyler's friendly and approachable style was a great fit for my son, and he did an exceptional job in communicating with me. He seems to genuinely care about his tutees...he followed up after exams and AP testing to check in on how my son did. I 100% recommend AJ Tutoring and Tyler. Effective, and just good people. read more

We used them for AP test prep. Very expensive but quite effective. You should pick your own tutor from their website, don't let them assign you a random one. read more

We had a very positive experience with our tutor, Jolie Goolish. She was patient, thoughtful and kind with my daughter and helped her with preparation for standardized tests for middle school applications. I highly recommend Jolie! read more

I have had three very wonderful tutors at AJ Tutoring for Pre-Calculus, studying for the SAT, and Calculus during the last two years! They were all very attentive and proactive in helping me with my studies. AJ Tutoring is pricey but it really helped me out to have that extra support academically. Special shout out to Mr.Ben Gross for Calc, Mr.Brandon Schultz for SAT Prep, and Mr.Elliot Ling for Pre-Calc! (sadly I don't think he's at AJ anymore but they still have awesome tutors!) read more

Loved AJ Tutoring and my kid's tutor, Caleb Liu, at the Los Altos branch. Caleb came recommended to me by a friend, so decided to give it a try. My high school junior is really picky about who she works with and I can say 100% that my daughter had a wonderful experience with him and definitely benefited from doing private one on one tutoring with Caleb. Hours were very convenient and location close by. Communication and billing all very efficient- couldn't be happier. Highly recommend AJ Tutoring!! read more

Our child worked with Micah Glass-Siegel on private high school entrance exams. Our child started preparing for it only a couple of months before the test date. Micah is very strategic about prioritizing what and how to study for the test, customized to our child's needs. Micah also identified and filled knowledge gaps that are in scope of the test but not yet covered in my child's school. While working with Micah, our child took multiple practice tests to learn how to manage time. Because Micah is so methodical in the preparations, our child feels relaxed when approaching the test. We highly recommend Micah! read more

Cannot recommend Jennifer Daubek from AJ Tutoring enough. Our daughter took SAT virtual 1:1 prep classes with Jennifer these past few months, and Jennifer has been nothing short of amazing. Not only did Jennifer use every minute of the session productively, teaching and clarifying concepts and giving valuable tips, I so appreciated how she also encouraged my daughter to do her best and overcome her nerves ahead of the actual test. So much so that my daughter was sad when the sessions concluded as she would not get to spend that 1:1 time with Jennifer getting tutored. Thank you so much, Jennifer. You've been awesome and we are truly grateful. read more

Micah is a professional and supportive role model He is an expert in English, Writing assignments for any classes, and all sections of Standardized tests. My kids always looked forward to meeting with him! He's also great at connecting people with other tutors for other courses! read more

Our assigned tutor, Sagar, was excellent. He gave my son both a study plan and in depth lessons on how to approach the problems and questions on the SAT. My son acquired 220 points between the PSAT (which he took with no prep) and his final superscore senior year. They did all of their meetings virtually and it worked quite well. It's hard to review an in-person business during Covid, however, the Lafayette office does not offer a great testing environment for practice tests. The walls are so thin that the practice test room can hear the tutors and students in adjacent rooms talking. My son conducted his own practice tests at home. Then Sagar and my son would then score the test together at their next meeting. (To be fair: the environments for the actual SATs are not ideal either. It is typically an unfamiliar campus, far from home, and in the case of my son's senior year SAT, suffered from loud, intrusive noises during the test.) read more

We are very happy with the tutoring help provided by Ben for our son for AP stats. We saw improvement in the test grade pretty immediately but Ben also helped with older concepts to ensure the entire course is well understood and ready for AP exam. Thank you Ben and Aj tutoring! read more

We were more than pleased working with Sagar at AJ Tutoring! My son worked with Sagar on the ACT and increased his score significantly. Sagar was patient and knowledgeable. He understood that my son had a heavy load with school and sports and pushed him just the right amount. He provided a summary of their sessions after each week, with a breakdown of his home assignments. These were very helpful. Sagar was just amazing and I have already recommended him to friends. Thank you Sagar and AJ Tutoring!! read more

My daughter has been working with Sagar on SAT/ACT prep for the last 2 months. He has been a great help to her as he explains concepts really well, provides her with useful tips for exam-taking and he's patient. He provides great weekly feedback to our daughter and us, the parents. He communicates well and frequently, to let us know how she is progressing, what she needs to work on before the next session, assigns relevant homework, and he also signs her up for the mock tests that AJ Tutoring provides. We truly appreciate his responsiveness, support and encouragement. UPDATE My daughter just received her ACT results earlier this week and she's in the 99th percentile! We are all truly happy and she wouldn't have been able to achieve this without Sagar's support. He went above and beyond with comprehensive e-mails on what they accomplished in each session and what to work on. As a parent, I truly appreciated that Sagar took the time to call me to discuss the prep plan and next steps for my daughter. I cannot recommend Sagar enough as a test prep coach for your child. He truly cares about the student. We've already told him in advance, that he'll need to work with our younger child when the time comes! Thank you Sagar and AJ Tutoring! read more

My son worked with Sagar at AJ's. He is a true gem. He was patient and explained the material clearly. I really appreciated his thoughtful emails after each session. I believe many of the skills my son learned will transfer over to other standardized tests and essay writing. read more

I have had some other tutors before that have just not been worth my time, much less my money, but AJ really cared not only about me during the session, but all the time. the Saturday testing centers and quality instruction from really set AJ apart. In addition to this, I had a great tutor by the name of Sagar Patwardhan. he always was nice when I got something wrong, and it made me really comfortable. one of my big issues with learning is that I sometimes can get frustrated at myself for getting something wrong instead of working to solving it. Sagar, however, created a really nice atmosphere that made me feel ok with failing a question, and helped me to see why I got it wrong and learn. read more

My son has worked with Becca Woo at AJ Tutoring for over a year (ISEE prep and math/language arts tutoring) and I highly recommend her as a tutor.  The following are examples of our experience: Tutoring for ISEE: - Communication/Timely Feedback:  After each lesson Becca briefed us on our son's progress (e.g. where he performed well, areas for improvement, recommendations or tips on tools to use at home).  This was done either in person after class or sent via email within a reasonable time frame.  In addition, if needed, she would send a follow up email with resources discussed. - ISEE practice exam:  She coordinated with us and signed our son up for two practice exams including sending tips/reminders for each. - ISEE Practice Test Scores:  She did a great job explaining how the testing is graded and how to understand the scores. - Organization:  Becca was prompt with sending calendar invites for the class schedule and ISEE prep tests including planning ahead and taking into consideration holidays or vacations and adjusting the calendar invites as needed. Tutoring for Math and Language Arts: - Communication: Becca checks in and provides feedback on our son's progress in a timely manner.  In addition, as needed, she is in contact with our son's teachers to ensure her lessons are in sync. - Practice Problems:  When my son does additional practice problems (outside of the regularly scheduled tutor session), Becca takes into consideration his schedule. In addition, she uses different approaches (eg. kahoot, worksheets) that help to keep my son interested in actually doing the additional work. - Organization:  Consistent with what's noted above, Becca is super organized. Other: - In addition to being very knowledgeable, Becca has a wonderful positive demeanor which creates a great atmosphere for learning.  My son always speaks very highly of her, her teaching methods, and finds it easy talking with her.  Working with her has improved his confidence level when dealing with a challenge in both subjects. - She has taken the time to get to know our son and can dial up or down the sessions depending on the day, as needed. She has great flexibility. Overall it's been a great experience with Becca.  She is a valuable asset to AJ Tutoring and we feel lucky to be working with her. read more

My daughter has been very happy working with these outstanding tutors. For example, everything went extremely well with her US History tutor Caleb, as the result she got A+. This is indeed a huge success. read more

Highly recommended. They have a quality review program suited for every individual. Has flexible schedule and spacious location.

Michelle Brown was my daughter's tutor and she was great! My daughter enjoyed her sessions with Michelle and she was well prepared for the ISEE Upper test. Compared to her test scores 3 years ago, my daughter's recent test scores were higher and a large part of that is due to Michelle's tutoring. I would highly recommend Michelle if you are thinking of a tutor. read more

John Richard at AJ Tutoring has been outstanding and provided invaluable help to our son over the past few years. He had a great rapport with both us and our son, who he motivated (but not pushed) to excel academically. The grades that our son achieve were in no small measure due to the personal attention and great coaching the John Richard provided. We can recommend AJ Tutoring and John Richard without hesitation. read more

AJ tutoring came highly recommended by a neighbor and they did not disappoint. I was looking for some help for my student in pre calculus. We were paired with Mitchell K at the office in Mountain View. He is a wonderful tutor, very helpful and reliable and knows his material. He listens carefully to where she needs assistance and has a good sense of humor. He has really given her confidence a boost. We will be continuing with him next semester for sure. It was pretty easy to start up and they have been fair with the pricing. read more

My son worked with Manasa for his ACT and SAT prep in 2020. With the pandemic, there were so many uncertainties as tests were canceled a week before the test dates. Manasa worked closely with my son to navigate the uncertainties and surprises. My son was preparing for SAT, but after the tests were canceled repeatedly, he pivoted to take the ACT and prep for it in less than one month. Manasa quickly created a new test plan for him and helped him ace his ACT exam at such a short notice. Luckily with Manasa's help and AJ's course material, he was able to score in 99 percentile. I would highly recommend Manasa and AJ Tutoring. AJ has better course materials for prep than other tutoring centers in the area. read more

I have used AJ tutoring for both my children, from math tutoring to test prep. Their tutors are excellent and the entire organization is run well with the student and quality service a priority. Sagar Patwardhan was our recent ACT test prep tutor and he did an excellent job. Very communicative and diligent. read more

We were so impressed with AJ tutoring for SAT prep for my junior son. After much research he was matched with Sagar Patwardhan and we couldn't be happier! He is a wonderful and inspiring tutor. Sagar spent the time talking to me to get to know my son, quickly understood his needs and had wonderful and thoughtful advise. Even though he only had a month and a half to prep, he motivated my son to do weekly sessions, homework and 3 Sunday practice tests. Sagar recognized my son's style of learning, the specific areas he needed to work on and was able to personalize his learning. Sagar was able to connect well to him and keep him engaged. His weekly progress reports and recaps were super helpful and detailed. He truly cares and has been invested in my son's success. The most touching part was he wanted to make sure my son got the sleep he needed leading up to the test and even emailed me at 1030pm the night before his SAT to make sure my son was in bed! What a gem! Thank you AJ tutoring and Sagar-you are a star! read more

My daughter had a great experience working with Manasa as her tutor for SAT prep, even during the pandemic! She was very professional and helpful. It was worth the investment to see my daughter go into her test ready and confident. Her test score improved 100 points from her previous score!! Thank you to AJ and Manasa! read more

We went to AJ Tutoring 3 months before the private high school application deadline as we were very late in deciding to apply. Sophia Sears tailored my daughter's tutoring to her levels and the ISEE deadline. Sophia explained the materials clearly and in multiple ways to help my daughter understand better. More importantly, Sophia has a very positive attitude which greatly encouraged my daughter to attend the class diligently and study more after class. With a short 10-week course plan, my daughter nailed the ISEE exam and got in her dream school. read more

My daughter attended the Los Altos branch of AJ Tutoring for 4 months in preparation of her Lower Level ISEE for private middle school application, and studied with Caleb Liu. Prior to this my daughter struggled with reading comprehension and verbal, and her performance on mock tests was inconsistent at best. We had tried online tutoring in the past to little avail. AJ rates are pricey so we were a little skeptical at the beginning but it was worth every cent (especially relative to the private school tuition we would have to pay anyway). While AJ Tutoring can't help us to cram thousands of words in the head (you would have to do that on your own with lots of reading and flashcards), it has a very systematic way of tackling verbal and reading problems, and lots of good practice material. Caleb is a very patient and friendly tutor who really listens to students and parents, keenly observe their mistakes, and offered us detailed strategies on how to overcome them. He was also very flexible, offering us lessons at the times that suited us (8 pm on Friday!) which was priceless for families that need to juggle with lots of activities. Through those 4 months of intense weekly prep sessions, my daughter's verbal and reading improved from 50%tile (scored on mock tests) to upper-90%tile (scored on the real test). We can't thank AJ and Caleb enough! read more

Caleb Liu was great to help our son with his ISEE exam. He is really good, with a lot of patience, which was a must for an 8 year old. He took our son from the place he was at it and quickly raise his skills on math and reading. He made it while keeping classes entertaining and our son engaged. Thank you Caleb read more

I had a wonderful experience receiving tutoring from Axel Amzallag for over three years! I struggled in math throughout my freshman year in high school, and when I noticed little improvement during my Sophomore year, I decided to seek tutoring through AJ Tutoring, where they matched me with Axel Amzallag. It was the best decision and partnership ever! He took the time to answer all of my questions, go over previous sections, and taught me new techniques for how to comprehend math. He also assisted me with the SAT and ACT preparation. After taking multiple practice tests, Axel was able to determine which standardized test was the best for me. Working with Axel not only helped me excel in standardized testing and math but has led me to explore a degree in Engineering. I would highly recommend Axel Amzallag to anyone who is struggling in math, or needs help on the SAT or ACT! read more

Melvin Delgado worked with our son through the quarantine on Geometry and Algebra 2... we COULD NOT have made it without him! His patience and knowledge of the subjects gave Adam the confidence to succeed in both areas. The best part was our son asking us to book more sessions as he truly enjoyed his time with Melvin. Communication, flexibility, and relatability all contributed to a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back! Thank you Melvin! read more

My son had an excellent experience with Axel Amzallag for Math tutoring. Axel started tutoring my son at the end of his second year of math with Algebra 2 honors when he had very poor grades and was not really understanding the material. With Axel's excellent knowledge of math and his guidance to assist in identifying what my son needed to work on, he was able to successfully pass with a B. We continued to have Axel tutor my son through Honors Trigonometry and Calculus AB which enabled him to successfully understand the material and prepare him well for his studies in mechanical engineering in college. I would highly recommend Axel and AJ Tutoring. read more

My son had a great experience with Kavya. His feedback: I worked with Kavya at AJ Tutoring in preparation for the SAT. Although I had done well on some practice tests, Kavya really helped me reach the next level. Using the diagnostic, she determined my strengths and weaknesses and created a plan to improve my reading and writing skills. Along with teaching me strategies to tackle the test, she made sure to push me to be the best I could be. In the end, my SAT score vastly improved and I would definitely recommend Kavya to anyone looking for a great tutor. read more

Zoe P. has been an amazing 8th and 9th grade academic English tutor for our son! Initially our son didn't have a lot of homework for school and Zoe was awesome at coming up with mini lessons to keep him learning. She is super patient, engages our son in material he definitely wouldn't do on his own, is super responsive to requests, and is great at communicating how he's doing. She has worked with him on reading comprehension, literature analysis, and writing; all across many styles and genres. Now that our son has a lot more homework, she also helps him not only with discussion and feedback on his work, but also with understanding teacher expectations and improving study skills. I am very happy with the progress that our son has made and definitely recommend Zoe and AJ tutoring. read more

My daughter worked with Kavya Ramanan at AJ Tutoring in preparation for the SAT subject area tests and the SAT. We are so pleased with the results. Kavya helped my daughter stay organized, stay on task, manage her time, and learn what she needed to learn. She kept open lines of communication throughout the process. We highly, highly recommend Kavya R. and AJ Tutoring. read more

My son's experience with AJ Tutoring has been great, and ACT prep with Axel Amzallag exceeded any expectations. In my son's words "Axel tutored me for the ACT, and I am more than pleased with the results. I came in with a starting score of 29, and in about 12 hours of tutoring my score grew to a 34. Axel was professional, yet he wasn't like an ordinary teacher in the classroom. The learning was very personalized and he focused on the material I needed the most work on. There was a bit of homework assigned, but he was always considerate in making sure that I would be able to get it done and it wouldn't interfere with my other studies. AJ Tutoring had many different practice tests for me to do, so when it came time for the test I was comfortable with the format and there was nothing to worry about. They also provided the official ACT prep book, which came in handy for self-studying which was supplemented by the practice tests provided there. I am more than satisfied with my tutoring experience with Axel and AJ Tutoring and would recommend them without a doubt to anybody considering tutoring for the ACT and more." read more

Kavya Ramanan has tutored my daughter for SAT and ACT preparation. I am very impressed with Kavya's tutoring skills. She is very good at figuring out which specific areas the student needs help with. Then, she puts together an excellent plan to work with the student in those specific areas and help them understand the topic. She uses the tutoring time efficiently and covers a lot of material during each session. She also teaches them great test taking strategies which did help improve my daughter's score by significant numbers. Aside from excellent tutoring technique, Kavya is very responsive to emails/questions. She responds to inquiries promptly and is always thorough in her communication with parents to keep them informed about the students progress. She goes above and beyond to help the student succeed. I have to say that I have not encountered a more reliable tutor than Kavya. read more

Kavya helped my daughter with her SAT prep this summer and we could not be more pleased. K is very straightforward at the same time caring for the individual needs of the teenager. Pleased to say that my daughters score increases with every practice test and we are optimistically waiting for her score from her real SAT. We would use Kavya again for any other tutoring needs and for our future kids in SAT prep. Highly recommend her for any child but esp for a daughter who needs an extra nudge to study harder. Kavya was able to get that from my kid which is a miracle!!! read more
