The Medora Musical crew for 2026 is on their game! I saw the show on July 4th and it was outstanding. The Musical group, especially the female performers, are just fantastic. The Coal Diggers (the stage band) are proffessional musicians and the intermission comedian was hilarious. The whole performance with the horses and the fireworks was top notch. I have seen the Musical several times over the years and this is one of the very best. I cannot recommend it more highly. read more

Wasn't really sure if we wanted to go but after going glad we did. The show was fantastic. Honestly I don't know where to start but if you are visiting Medora it's a fun show to watch. All performances were live with a live band no prerecordings. The singers and dancers were great and the choice of music was very entertaining. My wife got a bucket of Popcorn which was a little too salty and no coke products but besides that no problems. Wish we had the grandkids with us only good clean entertainment. The Medora Musical has made some changes in the time of Covid, some of them for the better. Instead of the little running skits throughout the musical, the focus is much more on the music and singing and dancing. That's a good thing. This is one of the more talented groups that I've seen in Medora, and it was very enjoyable. A bit campy, of course, but that's Medora for you. Definitely fun! They now dismiss the guests by row, which seems like it would take a lot longer, but really doesn't. Even with a temporary escalator shutdown, we were still out in a similar amount of time, without the huge crush of people that usually occurs at the choke points. read more

Sometime in my youth I was here. Now there are 2 escalators that take you down to one of the seating areas. I snagged row 4 middle end seats online in advance. With fees it was $120 for 2. The performance was very good with great singing and dancing. The featured attraction was K-Von, a comedian off you tube. He was really funny. The musical changes every year. It was cold out so sweatshirts and a blanket were needed. A bottle of water was $4 and hot chocolate in a metal souvenir mug was $12. I passed on that as I have enough at home. There is going to be a President Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library opening in 2025. Hope to return then. read more

I don't understand all the hype. I've talked to people that come here every summer to see this show and I don't know why! It was a cheesy and theme park like show. As a musician and lead singer, I look for quality live vocals and not studio adjustments. At least 14 singers each sang lead parts, plus singing duos and trios, with full ensemble backup vocals. All were 4 or 5 stars vocalists, with choreography dancing and even clogging. The live band played all the music flawlessly, specializing in great solos and even twin fiddles on a couple of numbers. I recognized the screaming twin fiddles song, "Devil's Dream" and a few country classics. We both loved the show and think you will too! read more

The production is very patriotic and family-oriented with many callouts to the 60 years of Medora's legacy, and the Burning Hills Singers feature some of the shows most talented performers in its history. My husband & I attended the Medora Musical tonight, June 17th, 2023. We were very disappointed in many things about the show. The host come in in a pickup?? Advertising for the Zuther Farm that she grew up on - poor taste! Why not a stagecoach or horses? Then the pickup sits on stage for a good part of the show!? We've been attending since the late 1960's and don't consider a trip to North Dakota complete without seeing the musical. As always, very patriotic, historical, wonderful music, and the venue is spectacular. We attended an early Sunday performance for the first time. I don't know if they shorten that particular performance, but we thought the time after intermission didn't provide the singers with as much time for performing as in past years. There were two disappointments for us, the hostess this year, and the axe throwing act. See you next year. read more

Driving east from Montana toward Bismarck, North Dakota, I was encouraged to get tickets for the Medora Musical. They perform twice each evening, and seating was well-spaced to acknowledge the reality of the Coronavirus. The show is fun, upbeat, and perfectly kitschy Americana. Right after the "seventh-inning stretch" (intermission), they brought on a magician/comedian. Back to more music and dancing that also presented the North Dakota history of Teddy Roosevelt. Tickets weren't cheap, but it's worth the visit while you're there! NOTE: They offer dinner after the 5:30 show and before the 8:30 show. I skipped that, so I can't review the quality and variety of choices. You may want to check that out. Have fun! read more

A wonderful show! Admittedly it's not my preferred entertainment but the campy variety show style of musical entertainment was well done and very funny. Kermit Apio, a comedian, was especially brilliant. The kids, ages 9-13 all lived it too. The overall show was almost exactly 2 hours. The venue is clean and well done with plenty of accessible options for less abled folks. Snack bar options were expensive $36 for 2 candies, 5 hot chocolates and a small popcorn but that's what you get in tourist areas. read more

Wonderful! Spectacular!! Enjoyable for the entire family !!! There are no words for how much we enjoyed watching these talented performers take over the stage and entertain us ! The " Coal Diggers" have so much talent, with the most being Amy the star fiddler! She made her fiddle "sing"! The Featured Act was Chad Thornsberry. Chad made us feel like a relative had stopped by to share a few stories. Loved that it was all G rated. Roosevelt's Band of Brothers, The Rough Riders, and Color Me America were impressive. Leaving you with a surge of patriotism seeing a horse and rider gallop up the hillside in the dark, with the United States Flag. If you are ever within 300 miles of Medora and Theodore Roosevelt National Park do not hesitate to detour and join in the amazing Town of Medora (population less than 1000 people) as you step back in time to explore history of the area ! read more

This isn't the same Medora Musical I grew up going to. Some of the songs they picked didn't go with the theme of the show. It seems like they are trying to modernize the musical with pop hits instead of perfecting country musical. It was extremely short this year as well. My kids were bored and kept asking when they could leave. I am so disappointed as I loved the musical when I was their age. I hope The Medora Musical goes back to their roots and makes it a true country show again. read more

The performance was excellent! This was a variety show with humor, dancing and singing. The performers were talented. Many of them were native ND folks but some were as far away as Connecticut and Louisiana. The seats were stadium style and there was an escalator up and down to the venue. The costumes were beautiful and the group changed quite often. The tribute to our soldiers was heartfelt. We were fortunate enough to be there on a beautiful July evening. Perfect weather for this outside show. The special performance was a man who brought two children up on the stage with him and he did balloons and magic with them. He was absolutely hilarious. This isn't a Broadway musical in NYC. It isn't advertised as one either! It is a western variety show. Yeah, it is a little overpriced for what you get but it's a tourist town. (I also hate to break it to people but ND in general, is more expensive.) The singing and dancing are cheesy but that's kind of what makes it entertaining. The seniors and children seem to love it! The performers are typically college kids majoring in theater looking for a summer job. The view is also good. read more

The 2014 50th Anniversary Show was Excellent. I went on the day of 6/29/14 and it was fantastic. The performance was spectacular and is great for kids. I love the Medora Musical. I have gone with my family ever since I was a kid. I went this past summer when I was home and I still loved it. If you love Theodore Roosevelt I really recommend Medora. The songs are mostly the most popular country songs at the time. The coolest part is that it is an outdoor amphitheater set in the rolling hills of North Dakota. This place is great for any age too! When you first sit down you will look out and see the sunset, as that is when the show starts. The coolest time I have gone there was a lightning storm off in the distance behind the how. I also recommend the pitchfork fondue dinner before the show. The memories that you will get from this place is worth the trip! read more

When we pulled into Medora I certainly wasn't expecting much besides a few basic services adjacent to the park. When my grandparent--my traveling partners--informed me had tickets to the Medora Musical I assumed it would be a quaint, home-cooked bit of mediocre musical theater. I was wrong. This production is a high-energy mixture of local lore, state history and americana cooked up along side classic and contemporary country tunes with a splash of gospel. Throw in some clogging, horses and you're ready to rock. The choreography was solid; the singing was mediocre but to be honest, I was having to good a time to care. Whether you're a local yokel or a city boy just passing through, I highly recommend you swing in for this rambunctious act. read more

Beautiful setting and theater overlooking the valley is wonderful. What they put on stage is entertaining at best. Singers and dancers were great. The Brakesk8 team was awesome and my kids enjoyed that the most. The two star rating is that while they tell the story of Teddy Roosevelt and the "early settlers" of the area, there is near celebration of the extinction of both humans and wildlife. What a strange find in western North Dakota! The town of Medora and the Medora Musical. Love the history, beautiful outdoors, and Americana musical in the outdoor ampitheatre. Bus loads of tourists unload for a cowboy dinner followed by a musical under the setting sun and stars. Medora is well organized and nearly Disney like. As you find your seats for the musical elk are released into a fenced area with food strategically place for prime viewing and photo opportunities. The history of Medora as a favorite place of President Teddy Roosevelt and then the passion of Harold Schaefer (Mr. Bubble and Gold Seal Co) is fascinating. The lack of diversity in a cast that was claimed to have been selected as the best around the country was disappointing. the cast was all white---which seemed assaulting and inconsistent with a patriotic theme. The emphasis was on "heroes" yet heroism was minimized and a great deal of time was spent on poorly crafted jokes, which included a 8 foot hero sandwiches and super heroes. The attempt at humor was quite disappointing even for those looking for comedy. It may have ended well, we do not know. We left when they rolled out a large hero sandwich. the set and setting were spectacular. read more

This is just the kind of patriotism our country needs to see! Inspiring and heartwarming, to say the least!! We didn't really know what to expect... and are SO glad we went! Great talent in an amazing setting, that brought tears to our eyes more than once. John Cassidy is the comic act and we absolutely loved him! There's a young man (Kevin) in the show that we saw perform earlier that morning in the Gospel Brunch (which was also inspirational!) and then again that afternoon, working at the local ice cream shop. Kudos to him for his talent and fabulous work ethic!! That's quite a daily schedule to keep! Thank you to everyone that was involved in these shows.
