We ate here four times during our visit to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and if that doesn't tell you how good it is, I don't know what will! lol We tried the PB&Jelly Time burger, the fish n chips, the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and the white bbq chicken sandwich - all were hot and fresh, deliciously seasoned and well balanced. We also fell in love with their french fries. They were just so good! Crispy on the outside, seasoned perfectly, and light and fluffy on the inside. They also have a ton of dipping sauces, so if you're a dipping sauce fan like I am, try them all! I absolutely loved having my cocktails served up in a giant cowboy boot glass! The food and drinks were great, the waiters were easy going and personable - the service was fast too! The inside of the restaurant is like walking into an old western saloon - They've got saddles and other horse tack hanging up everywhere, and they have wagon wheel style tables and live edge wooden tables too - so cool! Looking for a bite to eat in town and ran across Boots Bar & Grill. When you enter the restaurant you see a sign to seat yourself. You can choose a table, hi top and of course the bar. We found a table towards the back. Waitress came over quickly took our drink order and was back to take our dinner order. Waitress was very sweet, busy taking orders and bussing her tables. But service was great. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side salad $ 2.00 up charge, but very fresh. Sandwich was over cooked and very salty. There are not many dining options in Medora. We ordered the Ruben Egg Rolls and the Steak basket with onion rings. The Ruben Egg Rolls and the onion rings were EXTREMELY greasy. Grossly greasy! The steak is cut into strips and then fried, however they were not greasy but not flavorful. I tried the mushroom gravy that we thought came with it but there is a $2.00 up charge (not worth it) but that didn't help them taste any better so I tried ranch dressing, still didn't help so I reached for the ketchup and that helped a tad. Maybe the other things on the menu would have been better. Our meal was bad. So bad I got sick within 10 minutes of eating. Yes, it was that greasy. The atmosphere reminds me of Texas Roadhouse. Ordered burgers and they were fine, nothing special. Biggest complaint is how dirty this place is. It's clear this place never gets cleaned. Windows and door are finger-printed with dried on food, menus had dried on food, tables are barreled style and you can tell they don't clean the middle part of the table that holds all the condiments and silverware--ours was full of crumbs and salt. Server wiped down tables with dirty rag. You could see the dirty bar glasses hanging in the bar. Bathroom was disgusting. No locks on stalls, wall where you dry your hands had large brown dirt stain from never being cleaned. This isn't your typical busy day and no time to clean, it's clear that the dirt has been around for a long time! Such a disappointment and does not fit in with other cleaner establishments in Medora. A/C seemed non-existent and made a loud chirping noise throughout restaurant. This place needs a serious overhaul or perhaps just a match. read more

Great experience. Our server was great, very friendly and helpful! We went on a Saturday night and they were setting up live. Plenty of seating for groups of all sizes. Service was average, nothing over the top, got the job done. Definitely western theme inside with lots of tables. I had the Killdeer, which was their take on a Philly cheesesteak. The garlic aioli/sauce added a nice flavor. I do wish the steak was sliced thinner or smaller pieces, as it was tough to bite through and the entire strip would come out when attempting to take a bite. I've had fish and chips in countless places across the country, but their fish basket was hands down some of the best I've ever had perfectly crispy, flaky, not too much breading and seasoned just right. And if you're in the mood for something a little offbeat but absolutely delicious, the peanut butter and jelly burger is a surprising hit. We got to Medora before the tourist season started, so lots of the restaurants were closed. Out of the places we could chose from, I think we chose well. Hubby and I shared the Pretzels & Dips - 3 soft large pretzel sticks served with beer cheese, cream cheese, and a chokeberry jelly. Beer cheese was served cold, which is not my preference. But all the dips were nice. The pretzel was yummy. I opted for the Brussel sprout tacos - absolutely divine! The Brussel sprouts were charred perfectly. Drizzled with a chipotle aioli. Not many places in Medora seem to be open in the evening so we thought we'd "settle" for Boots Bar & Grill. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the food we ordered. Fish basket: this one was made with Walleye and I got the side of fries and someone else got a side of sweet potato waffle fries. Fish, fries, and sweet potato fries were all so good. Especially loved the sweet potato waffle fries with the garlic aioli! Someone else ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pizza which was also tasty. There was one negative comment that I have to make. The waitress seemed so eager to rush us out. We're barely into our meal and she's already asking if we will be ordering dessert. We said we'd think about it and she comes back really quick while we're still eating and we ask if it's because the kitchen is closing or something and she said no. We didn't even finish eating and she already had the bill ready and offered a to-go box. It's not the restaurant was busy at all - there were table available and no one waiting. Medora ID is now at it's off season since the Medora Musical is over. At 6pm, all the shops are closed except for a convenience store, a gift shop, a saloon, a bar and a few restaurants. Without spending an arm and a leg, I thought Boots Bar & Grill would be a good medium. Mid prices with average reviews but I will go for it since there aren't many options around. A few things is wrong with this place and to start would be their website. The online take out is completely missing the Entree section which my husband and I both wanted to order entrees! So, I had to call them to place a take out order. I ordered the fresh grilled fish "The Walleye" and my husband ordered the top Sirloin steak. The lady on the phone told me it would be 20 mins. We walked around Downtown and realize it was a ghost town with everything pretty much closed. Ok then! Time to pick up our food.. We arrived and went up to the bar. Took awhile for someone to greet us. All the servers seemed extremely busy even though the place was not packed. Finally, someone comes up to check us out. After we paid, he pointed that our food was at a table that we passed by while on the way in. Sure enough, our meals were sitting in a bag. My fresh fish seemed frozen as well as the broccoli. Fish was hard and lacked taste inside. My husbands steak lacked taste inside. Looks and tasted like a frozen microwave dinner. Just not good.
