A THING began growing on a cheek about four months ago. It grew and grew. It turned dark and grew more. I called. I got an appointment with Dr. Baltazar. He looked it over, said I was growing a cutaneous horn. MOO! He numbed it with Acme Instant Numbing potion. He injected it, my horn felt nothing immediately. Not for me, I was given Memantine... I face pick but just was not convinced. The medication is meant for dementia which my father passed away from. Nice Dr., she listened the office is just not right for what I need. I found another dermatologist professional and the diagnosis was given and 1 month in and my face is clearing up. They set us up with Dr. Christina Harview My recent appointment with Dr. Christina Harview at Medical Dermatology Specialists Phoenix. While Dr. Harview and her medical assistant were pleasant, my overall experience was somewhat disappointing. Pros: Friendly and pleasant demeanor of Dr. Harview and the medical assistant Thorough skin cancer check Cons: Limited flexibility in addressing multiple concerns Ignored any other dermatologic issues that I had even after asking me if I had any concerns. During my visit, I hoped to discuss a couple of dermatological issues that had been bothering me since my last appointment. Especially after the Dr. asked me if I had any concerns. However, when i brought my concern up Dr. Harview presented me with what felt like an ultimatum, asking me to choose between a skin cancer check or addressing my other concerns. I opted for the skin cancer screening, which was conducted thoroughly. Unfortunately, this meant my other dermatological issues were left unaddressed. This approach differed from my previous experiences with Dr. Akerman, who would typically accommodate both the annual skin check and other dermatological concerns during yearly visits. I waited more than an hour to the see the provider. She came in, talked to me for exactly two minutes and then had her medical assistant take over my care. I was actually in the room with staff for 15 minutes. They billed my insurance $420 for the visit. Staff can be very rude. This facility really needs to invest in sensitivity training. They overbook themselves and expect patients to to be okay with underperforming and a quality of care that is rushed and incomplete. read more

I see Dr. Ackerman so my review will be based on her. There is another Doctor in the office however, Dr. Kessler. Dr. Ackerman is the primary doctor I believe. THE DOCTOR Dr. Ackerman is very young- I'd guess around 30, so I believe the practice is pretty new. She got her MD in 2007, according to the big fancy diploma on her wall (and from Tulane, for all you private school snobs out there... don't worry, I'm included). She's nice, professional, but not super warm. She comes off very businesslike and sort of agressive about treatment so if that turns you off and you want more chit chat and a little more smiling, she probably won't be for you. She's friendly though, so don't get me wrong. Just not a kindergarten teacher type. I liked that she didn't waste my time and listened closely to what I had to say and responded with exactly the treatment I had hoped she would. Also, I mentioned as an aside that I was a runner and she remembered that when prescribing sun-sensitive medication, without having to ask. Good attention to detail. THE SERVICE Super efficient and friendly. The have a very large staff and a large patient volume if the number of people in the waiting room says anything. They manage it seamlessly, however. The receptionist was very polite even though I was a flake and managed to be late and forget my insurance card. She didn't scold and helped me figure it out and got me in and out quickly anyway. Also, I booked an appointment for a couple of different issues and they resolved them both right away and didn't make me come back a second time and pay more office fees etc. THE PRICE I have insurance so I have no idea. However, I included this to note that she put me on a very expensive medication without warning me. It didn't affect me because I had perscription insurance so I guess that's probably why she didn't say anything. I would have liked to know though, because my insurance will be changing soon and it may affect me then. THE OFFICE For those who care about these things with doctors' offices (and I do- if I'm going to be stuck waiting and made uncomfortable, I'd like it to be as pleasant as possible).... Clean, nicely decorated, newly remodled, new everything. Comfortable exam rooms that are kept very tidy and hygenic. Believe it or not, I can't say that about all doctors I've been to in the valley. read more

Extremely curt and dismissive office staff. They are not taking new patients until next year, but asking the patient to call them back at that time rather than offering to book appointments in advance. In my opinion this is not a patient-centric system. I asked for referral to another dermatologist and they referred me (reluctantly) to their sister office Southwest Skin Specialists. I asked for a referral to a dermatologist at that location that was similar to Dr. Ackerman and received a snotty "I'm not familiar with their doctors". If they have a sister office and they are currently turning patients away and referring them to the sister office location, I believe it would be pertinent to become familiar with the doctors at the alternate location and offer another option other than, "sorry" (not sorry). I would not refer anyone to either location now that I've had this experience. read more

Great experience last week with Dr. Kessler. She removed a mole for testing in the most painless way every. She is very personable, friendly, and talks to her patients with kindness and knowledge. It was very refreshing to be talked to like an intelligent person by a doctor. Took awhile to get my first appointment but now that I am established I was informed that I will be able to see the doctor in a more timely fashion at appointments to come. read more

The worst customer service experience in a doctor's office! My father took my son for his appointment along with a copy of my drivers license and a letter authorizing him to take my son. They wouldn't accept it.I had spoken to the office staff about three times prior to this so they knew who I was. Well, they wouldn't see him without a notarized letter. Plus, they told me that if I didn't fax the notarized letter within 10 minutes my son would have to be rescheduled. REALLY!!?? His appointment was at 8:40 and I was talking to these people at 8:28. Such HORRIBLE customer service and experience. We will NEVER go there again after being treated this way. There are many other dermatology offices we can go to. read more

Poor Physician Support I REALLY like Dr. Z. However, one of her primary staff is consistently interruptive, defensive when asked questions, gave me incorrect medical information, and does not seem to understand what patients tell her as I've heard her on several occasions now repeat back patient comments incorrectly. Though Dr. Z seems terrific, I suspect this staff person could jeopardize patient care. Additionally, there seems to be little urgency with scheduling patient care which is of course, very stressful for the patient when frequent follow-up is required to get care. read more

Apparently no one noticed, since a couple days later I received a "how did we do" email asking for my input on the appointment. By far the best dermatologist office I have ever been to. Have referred many friends and families. Doctors are all MDs and they do their surgeries in office which is nice because no time is wasted waiting to get scheduled by a surgeon at another office. Staff is friendly and helpful and each Dr has multiple medical assistants which is helpful because calls are returned quickly and prescriptions are refilled promptly. read more

This woman does not care about her patients and likes to take money with her light therapy scam. why do I call it a scam because whenever a patient has a session the staff ignores them leaves them on the booth longer or they don't even turn on the machine but they sure charge you. if you complain she doesn't care, horrible manners and likes talk down to her patients. this practice is all about taking your money if you are willing or able to spend that much go the Mayo Clinic or somewhere where you are not attended by a doctor that is trying to get off her debts by taking advantage of you. read more

Perhaps the rudest office staff I have ever in my life encountered. I called to setup a new patient appointment and was immediately told that Dr. Ackerman only takes immediate family members. I gave them the names of my two family members and the person asked for each of their dates of birth by month-day- year. Since I only knew the month and day off hand, I immediately failed the test. After a couple of additional insulting and curt comments by the woman I was talking to she said and I quote -"We have no available appointments in the foreseeable future or next year." not even a goodbye. Just hung up. Dr. Ackerman came very highly recommended by my family and I see she has outstanding credentials as well. Unfortunately if this is what Dr. Ackerman's website calls "compassionate and effective care" then perhaps someone needs to explain it to her office staff. I have seen Dr. Ackerman for several years and I have always been pleased with Dr.Ackerman and her staff. As a physician, I can be very critical of my own profession. Dr. Ackerman passes my tests with honors. She is direct yet compassionate. She has always been prompt and efficient. Yet she is also thorough and she listens attentively. She answers questions without hedging if she knows the answer, yet is not afraid to say, "I don't know, but I will find out" if she doesn't. All of that builds confidence and trust. I see a LOT of doctors. I have waited 3 hours to be seen. I have had doctors be rude and down right mean. When I go here I know it is going to be fast simple and no drama. Dr Akerman is very direct and no BS. She is easy to talk to and does not push a lot of expensive products or procedures. I guess I just like the fact it seems so simple She also helps if meds cost is too much. If you like a more talkative or fun doctor maybe not for you. The most wonderful experience I have ever had at a doctors office. It was my first visit, I had never been to a dermatologist before, I thought I had a spot of skin cancer and I was nervous. The staff was AMAZING, from the moment I stepped into the office until I left. Everyone was so nice, so efficient, so compassionate. I would recommend them to anyone. Dr Li is the best. I didn't have to wait, yet they didn't rush me, I have to go back and I am looking forward to seeing them again. My visit was from a little while ago . ..I was less than satisfied. Doctor sat so far from me not really sure how she was able to properly exam me. And my visit was not for anything contagious. I will give you an example let's just say you were there because you were concerned about a mole & your doctor was looking at you from across the room you would probably want your doctor to come in a little closer and take a better look at the mole not stand a few feet away,right? That's just an example of how I felt. I Went to her based upon a recommendation I received from another doctor.
