The objectives of this review are 3 fold: first, to inform potential and existing clientele of MediaTech's dishonest business practices, second, to encourage other existing customers or former customers who left to share their experience with Mediatech, and last, to effect constructive change within MediaTech's business activities for the mutual benefit of the customer and company.
After several years of interaction with MediaTech I can can best summarize their business strategy as follows: MediaTech aggressively sells premium home technology automation products to customers with the promise of simplifying and integrating those systems. Once multiple home systems (including essential ones) are successfully linked by shoddy installation and buggy patches, customers are wholly dependent on the company to pay for repeated "technical support" visits when the system inevitably goes down. As MediaTech increases the interconnectedness of your home automation system, it increases the size and likelihood of a single point of failure that can knock out that home's system's. MediaTech's management and staff are quickly able to ascertain the relative technical acuity and knowledge of their customer base and they really take advantage of those who struggle to understand the functions of the increasingly complex systems that they have integrated with with automation platforms like Savant and Control4.
Not one MediaTech system that has been installed in our home has functioned for more than one week without a failure. If you take a quick look at MediaTech's website it will become obvious within moments who their target customer base is, it's high net worth homeowners who by their very socioeconomic status tend to be an older demographic. Most of these people are simply unable to make an informed decision about whether a recommended upgrade is necessary or if it will improve/simplify their experience. Mediatech has presented proposals for several thousand dollars to make absolutely redundant changes to working system only to apologize for misunderstanding the nature of the query when called out on it.
There is so much I could elaborate on but I will mention only one more issue before concluding this review. Despite verbal and written guarantees stating visits for repairing products through Mediatech that are covered by warrantee, bills are soon submitted and promises ignored. When Mediatech installs and programs the bulk of one's home systems including lighting, climate control, home theater and sound equiptment etc and they fail then you will be entirely beholden to them to assist in repairs. Mediatech went from having a frustrating yet casual approach of "contact us and we will assist you" to having customers prepay $500 a year for the privelage of being able to speak to a technician who with a few keystrokes will likely try to remotely reset your system. If or when a remote reset fails to resolve the problem a technician will be sent at an average cost of $100 for the visit. Yet the pricing of such "repairs" especially those that require something as simple as resetting a single component manually are set at the whim of the technician.
Alas, anyone who is a Mediatech customer, who has had a similar experience as I've described has good reason to be weary of posting a review. When one is sufficiently enrenched with Mediatech and they have installed so many vital home components, it's daunting to share ones experience for fear that doing so will result in retaliation via escalating repair costs or being abandoned with a glitchy convoluted home automation setup. That is why I am taking a stand to share my experience here.
Mediatech, home automation is a relatively small business world and there aren't a plethora of players in the premium market so you may be able to get away with what you're doing for now. However, word travels fast. I am truly baffled that rather than conducting your business honestly in such a way that your company grows by creating a strong reputation built on strong performance, solid work and system reliability, you've resorted to dirty old old tricks that leverage the technical ignorance of your client base for continued profit. It's up to you whether to take my criticisms seriously. I'm confident that I'm far from the only one experiencing these issues. Therefore, rather than leave a review wherein my grievences may be directly addressed for my sole benefit as an individual customer in exchange for taking the review down, I'm going to leave this review on this forum (and perhaps share it on other platforms) until Mediatech takes the initiative to properly install their products in such a way that they work reliably. This will require broad efforts on behalf of your business and a change in approach but enough is enough. Take this review as an opportunity to improve the relationship you have with your customers rather than personal attack. read more
